Fan Not Comming on,Hot power Book?

Hi: I am not sure if my fan should be running as my PB is Hot. After tiger, it ran all the time. deleted Virex and it's OK now. The fan came on after that for a few sec here and there. But I am just wondering how do I know it's back to Normal now?
Any suggestions as to how to check the fan to see if it's working ok? Maybe I am just worried over nothing.

Yes. It causes problems.

Nothing. You have Mac OS X. Compared to Windows, it's a different world. As far as I know there aren't any OS X viruses at this time.

The only sound my PowerBook makes most of the time is when I tap the keyboard. Occasionally I'll hear a little whisper as the fan comes on for a minute or two. If I hold my ear within a foot or so of the keyboard I can hear a low hum as the hard disk spins. My PB is virtually silent.
Oh, about the heat. It's normal for the underside of the case to become quite warm. It shouldn't get hot enough that it's painful or dangerous to touch. But it can get warm enough that it's uncomfortable to have it against bare skin for a length of time.

Any one have this issue?
HP ProBook 5220m (Bios Version F50) Fan not working with battery power but work fine with adapter plugged in.
This issue was found in my replacement motherboard. the original mother do not have this issue.
The origianl mother to be replace is due to can't power on after a power failure recovery. I believe was due to power surge killed the motherboard's power controller circuitry.
Appreciate any one can provide clue for resolving the problem.
I have tried to install speedfan to try my luck, but it can't any fan in the application to configure. (Bios Version F50)

Desktop will not come on after power outage

We had a power outage for about 5 seconds. Everything came back on. When I hit power button on PC, it came on and booted back up. About 3 minutes later, it cut off. I restarted it again and it did same thing again. When I tried to turn it on again, nothing happened. It has a green light above power cord lit up but when I hit power button, light goes out. PC was on surge protector when power went off.

Here is the standard HP diagnostic for the power supply. Likely it has been damaged by the spike. The slimline's use a specialty PSU, called a TFX is most cases. It would help if you'd mention the exact model #. Examples, more.

Garageband did not come with my Power Mac

I just recently changed from PC to Mac for my recording. It has 10-5-8 leopard but doesn't have i-life or garageband. How do I get this, I was under the impression that all Macs come with garageband. I am completely new to the mac world and am becoming more frustrated by the minute. Can anyone help?

Can you confirm that all mac's come with ilife or garageband. I have used my PC without too many problems for the past 8 years, but I was constantly told that the mac was far superior, I am beginning to doubt that. Also I downloaded audacity and mixpac which are free and every time I try to record I get either "There is a problem with the recording device you have selected for this track. Please check that it is turned on and connected" or "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate. I have a presonus firepod hooked to the firewire port, the audio for safari and itunes works great, I have loaded my melodyne which also works to record into and playback with the same settings that don't work with the other software. I am hesitant to purchase anything as I don't want to waste any money on something that doesn't work, and I can't find a single trial version of anything to load and try without purchasing something or other. I am at my wits end. If I can't solve this soon I will have no other option but to tune back to the evil PC, which I don't really want to do. Can anyone help me?

Only fan comes on with power after a drop

My wife dropped her 12-inch G4 1.5GHz PB. Afterwards, it wouldn't boot. When I pushed the power button, the fans came on and kept running, but that was it. I tried to boot from my Tiger DVD, but there was no change (and now I can't eject the DVD!)
I thought it might have been the hard drive, so I bought a new one and installed it. No change.
What else might be wrong? I'm kind of thinking the shock of the drop broke something on the logic board, which would mean that this is not worth fixing. But if I am overlooking something simple ...
Any ideas why the fan would come on with power but no screen, no gray apple, no DVD eject, etc.?
Hate to see this one die - it was a really solid little computer!

You are never below the radar here. Since responders are all volunteers, we come to the forums when we have the time. Besides, many of us respond in several forums, and we respond to questions about which we feel we have something to contribute. And, finally, some forums have a larger number of contributors than others, and that is especially true of the OS X forums. Harware forums tend to be less visited by most responders.
I agree with your thinking of either selling individual parts or keeping the parts and buying a 'Book with a good logic board and possibly needing parts you have. Take a look at PowerBookTech for an idea of prices for parts.

Satellite M60 - screen does not come on when i reboot

I have a Toshiba Satellite M60 and the screen does not come when I power down or reboot. It takes about 12 tries before it comes on. When the screen does not come on the computer still boots up ok just no screen.
I have to put it in standby mode if I do not want the hassle of trying to get the screen to come on. Is this a screen or inverter problem?
Any help would be appreciated.

You cannot expect that someone here offer exact diagnostic to your problem. For instance, I can say yes, you need new display. And what now? Do you want to follow my opinion and order new display?
What you really need is professional help. Technicians know how to handle with such cases. Maybe just some cable must be exchanged. I recommend you to contact nearest authorized service provider. Explain them the situation and let them check your notebook.

Mac Book Pro will not start on Battery Power

Mac Book Pro will not start on Battery Power although battery at 98% need to connect charger. When started date and time incorrect, comes up as 1st Jan 2012.

What is the exact model of your MBP? The date change often is an indication of power loss to the MBP, such as disconnecting the battery.
If the SMC reset does not solve the situation, post this from your MBP:
Make certain that the power adapter is connected.

If you mean the listing of internet streams that seems to have disappeared for many users of older iTunes versions over week ago. Probably some update at Apple broke older versions. No idea if it will ever come back but you can open stream URLs you find on the web and save them in playlists.

What model iPad do you have? If it's an iPad 1, the battery may have expired and needs replacement.

First thing to do is a SMC Reset, you can find instructions at:

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!!!!
Then try Repairing Disk Permissions, do this at least 2x. You will find this in Disk Utility which is located in Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility.
Finally you may need to uninstall Garage Band and reinstall. You may have to use Pacifist to do this, you can find it at:

That doesn't help the user with the serial code though.
There has to be some kind of code somewhere within the package. The disk itself does not contain one. You can look here for help with finding your serial number:
