Fan on my Equium A200

Hi
I have just purchased an Equium A200-15i and wonderd if the fan should be going off as often as it is. Have just had to return my previous laptop to the shop as had the same problem with that one, in that the fan would go off every minute or so. Can anyone advise if this is normal as I have no idea!

Hi there,
could you please explain what you mean with "go off". Where is the problem, is your machine crashing due this or is the FAN running constantly or what?
A better description would be make the answering much more easier, because no one understands sometimes each other. Remember, we are all not coming from the same country, the range between the people here is sometimes about 10000 Miles and no one speaks the same english.. :)

  • Memory speed - Equium A200 PSAF5E

    Hi all,
    I own a Toshiba Equium A200 - 1V0
    Model no. PSAF5E - 001003sp
Bios version updated to v. 2.50
Everest Ultimate 4.5.1330 says that I have 2GB of RAM, in two sticks of Samsumg DDR2-667. Also it says too that my FSB is 133Mhz with correct CPU speed and multipier.
The problem comes with memory speed. It shows DDR2-667 capable sticks and chipset, but DRAM:FSB ratio is set to 8:4 resulting in DDR2-533, in any energy profile. The system operates in dual-channel 128bit configuration, so I'm losing 2144 MB/sec of transfer speed.
The chipset is identified as an Intel Crestline GML GL960, Everest and Toshiba website show it as DDR2-667 capable, Intel website claims about DDR2-533.

    Link:[http://www.intel.com/products/notebook/chipsets/gl960/gl960-overview.htm]
I haven't found any motherboard info or manual, so here are my questions:
    - Is this speed normal or may I expect the DDR2-667 mode with this system?
    - Is the dual-channel mode decreasing memory speed?
    - If I re-install memory modules one by one and changing the position, Could it reset the speed values of the system?
    - Can I access to any hidden BIOS settings to tweak the memory? (I have a Medion system that has a hidden and password protected BIOS mode accessible through F11 instead of F2 where I can find lots of options not shown in normal F2 BIOS)
    - Any more ideas?
Many thanks in advance. Any help would be much apreciated.

    Hi HiperGrover,
As PauPau wrote, the limited FSB is 533 MHz and that means the memory modules will run at this speed. Furthermore DDR2-667 modules can be used properly but they run only with lower speed.
So don be worry about this, everything is ok with your notebook.
Last but not least in BIOS there are no options about tweaking the modules and such options will not bring a strong performance boost but they could make your computer unstable.

  • Printer sharing with Equium A200

Hi, have aquired a Equium A200 and have connected it wirelessly to another PC in my house via a wireless modem router.
I have the connection sorted and all works ok, except when I try and printer share.
The printer connected to my older pc is an epson RX620, and the older computer runs on XP. I can find the printer on the laptop but when I double click I get an error message:
" windows cannot connect to the printer, access denied"
I have gone through everything i can think of, but still wont happen. Could it be because the laptop is running vista and the pc is XP?
Although i have been told by epson that the printer should work with with the laptop. Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

    I think I found a solution :)
I have googled a little bit and this should helps to share the printer with Vista and XP.
    - Access the Control Panel.
    - Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer.
    - Choose Add a local printer and click on Create a new port. The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. Click Next.
    - A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name.
    - Type in \ \computer name\printer name ie. printer name is EpsonRX620 so I typed in \\basement\epsonRX620
    Hope this helps.

  • Equium A200 Vista to Windows 7 upgrade

Trying to find out if it's OK to upgrade Equium A200 with Vista to Windows 7
I ran the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor". It lists several Toshiba Apps and/or drivers with the comment "we don't have any compatibility information about this version of the program". It helpfully links to Toshiba's Windows 7 ugrade site, and eventually to this link -
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/KBA9A02PX0000R01.htm
"For Toshiba PC models NOT listed below, Toshiba offers "Limited Driver" support on a clean installation of the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system."
    No Equium models are listed.
What on earth does "limited support" mean in relation to Equium A200 + Windows 7. IOW, is it OK to upgrade to Windows 7?
    TIA,
    Peter

OK, I understand not all or no Win7 drivers will be available for the 2yr old laptop. (I take it there is no way to determine which relevant drivers will not be available.)
If I make a Clean Install you say (and it makes sense) I will need to get install all drivers. However it that does not seem a sensible option as it's not clear which of the required drivers will be available. IOW could install then find I can't get some important drivers, unless I'm missing something.
If I upgrade from Vista to Win7 you say "many Vista drivers are compatible with Win7, actually I didn't know but it makes sense. Also the Win7 Upgrade advisor application didn't mention any problems with drivers on this laptop (it only flagged several unknown Toshiba applications).
Seems the best or rather only viable option is to Upgrade. FWIW I notice that Vista Home Basic & Premium can only be Upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. Other Win7 versions, in particular Win7 Professional, need to be Clean Installed. Shame as I wanted that for its additional networking capabilites.
Many thanks for your reply. If you think I've misunderstood something please comment again!

  • Ipod won't work under Windows Vista on Equium A200

I've had my Ipod for over a year now i used it fine on my old computer which was running on XP.
I now have my laptop Equium A200 series running on vista.
When i first connected my ipod to it it showed up and asked if i would like to connect my ipod to this computer instead of the other pc so i accepted.
It cleared all my songs so i can put my new music on.
Once it had done this my laptop could not pick up my ipod anywhere.
When I connect my ipod in the laptop makes a noise to show it's recognised it's been connected, but when i go to itunes it doesn't show up.
I've been into device manager to check there it has a ipod symble with an ! mark next to it, so i click update driver but nothing is ever found.
My Ipod charges fine and works fine, i've been on apple website looking for solutions i've restored my ipod everything they've sugested but nothing seems to work. Can someone please help me i miss using my ipod.
Sorry if i've posted this in wrong place first time user don't know my way around the site yet.
Many thanks if you can help.

Hm, maybe you should reinstall the Ipod software. That would be the only idea I have. Otherwise you should take a look at the BIG Apple forum. ;)
    Nice weekend and good luck

  • Re: How to connect Equium A200 to TV

How do you connect to TV with Equium A200 series?

    Hi
    > I have not got an s-video port on laptop only a 15 pin external monitor port
Hmm then you need an adapter which would allow connecting both ports; RGB port and s-video port.
    Check this:

  • Equium A200 - no more light in the EQUIUM label

I have applied Windows Vista SP1 Italian in my Equium A200 (PSAE8E) and updated latest bios 2.20.
Everything works fine and now the blu light under the words EQUIUM is off.
I am happy not to waste any more power for lighting the EQUIUM words, but I wonder where there is a control for that.

This LED can be enabled/disabled in BIOS. Please enter BIOS settings, enter advanced settings and check the last option. I do not remember anymore the exact name for this but you will find it there.

  • Equium A200-15i - need original BIOS

I would be very very grateful if you could send me a link to the original bios for the EQUIUM A200-15i.
    Thanks in advance, Michael

    Hi
On the Toshiba European driver page you will find always newest BIOS versions.
Older BIOS versions are not downloadable and I think you will have to contact the ASP in your county to get such older BIOS.

  • Certain keys not working on Equium A200-196 after Windows 7 update

Hi all, I've just upgrade my partner's laptop (a Toshiba Equium A200-196) to Windows 7 after initially installing Windows XP on it (it came with Vista).
After the XP update, I noticed certain keys weren't working. I can't remember the process I used to fix the issue, but fix it I did, and they were all soon working perfectly. So it was a software issue, rather than hardware. I think it may have had something to do with the FN key - but I can't be sure.
Now I've just upgraded the same machine and I have exactly the same problem. The keys that don't work are Backspace, W, P, F, H, K and L.
Can anyone help please? I've tried reinstalling Win7 and the problem is still there.
    Many thanks,
    Andy

    >The keys that don't work are Backspace, W, P, F, H, K and L.
These keys have nothing to do with the missing software.
Indeed, the function key (FN key) needs an installation of particular Toshiba utility / software to get it working but the Backspace, W, P, F, H, K and L keys are common keyboard keys which dont needs any special software.
Therefore I think the issue is hardware related: simple keyboard malfunction.
I guess all these keys would work properly if you connect and use external USB keyboard.

  • Equium A200: Mat****a UJ-850S reads DVDs but no CD's

Posting on behalf of a friend who is having issues with her Equium A200. It has a Mat****a UJ-850S DVD drive, this is where the problem lies.
The DVD drive will read and play original media such as films but will not read any CD's, whether they be original or CD-R's.
She has phoned up support who asked her if she had iTunes installed and told her to follow some steps to delete upper and lower filters in the registry.
She has done this (although didnt have lower filters), the problem still remains. It sounds like a hardware fault to me, thoughts?
    Cheers

    >It sounds like a hardware fault to me, thoughts?
Yes, it could be possible that an hardware is faulty.
I mean it sounds like the laser lens has been stressed and it cannot calibrate properly in the right direction in order to read the CDs.
    But before you would try to replace the driver I would recommend testing one thing;
You could try to boot from recovery disk and could reinstall the whole OS.
Note; everything will be erased from HDD using such recovery disk. So backup the data firstly.
After restoring you will get a notebook with factory settings and then you could try to read from a CD disk.
If this will not be possible then there is a hardware issue

  • How to disable TouchPad 'tap to click' on Equium A200-15L under Vista

Until mid-December I had the Synaptics Touchpad 'tap to click' disabled. Then it somehow became enabled , the right-click menu item to change it greyed out and the mouse properties, settings etc contain no reference to it. It has been suggested that Windows Updates somehow interfered. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling touchpad drivers both directly from Synaptics and from the Toshiba site, but it hasn't helped. Apart from using the recovery disk and reformatting what can I do?
Toshiba Equium A200 15L Laptop (PSAE2E). Windows Vista Home Premium.

    Hi Juliana
I have read also about the Vista updates which could affect the touchpad settings for me it sound very mysterious
I thought about the same touchpad driver reinstallation procedure.
But it looks like this doesnt help to get the click functions back.
I think the recovery CD would be the last resort.
    Good luck

  • Is the picture of the Equium A200-1V0 correct on the website?

As above, is the picture of the Equium A200-1V0 correct on the website?

When you enlarge the image, it says Satellite on the front of the laptop (as with the Satellite laptops).
Can I be assured that the laptop will look exactly like this, (with or without the "Satellite" on the front), I like the design and do not want to end up with something different.
    Help is much appreciated, thanks!

If you reply with you email adress I can take a couple of hi-res photos of mine and send you for comparing :)

  • Equium A200 can not connect to the interest using Wifi

    Hi,
Since having to reinstall Windows Vista Ultimate, I can not connect to the interest using Wifi. It works fine for Ethernet, but when choosing the "Connect to the Internet" screen, its blank and will not find any wifi connects or let me manually connect to one.
In Device Manager under Network Adaptors, it now only shows the Ethernet Controller and not the Wifi adaptor. I have tried to download the driver from this site and after rebooting nothing has changed. I have made sure the machine has all the latest Windows updates as well. I have also mader sure that the wifi button is switched on at the front of the machine.
Also one a side note I cant seem to find the exact name of the Laptop in the system section of Control Panel other than Equum A200. On the download driver page there is NOT a A200 listed only A300 and A300D.

I guess you didnt look into the Archive the A200 is a little bit older therefore the drivers are placed in Archive!
If you want to know what driver you need then I recommend checking this faq:

  • Equium A200: Norton can't find any virus but I know it's there

My notebook (Equium A200) was attacked by a virus which made many programmes malfunction. I ran Norton (the free version which came with the laptop) but found nothing. I eventually decided to run product recovery. It took 3 attempts to load properly , but still the system is unstable and slow and I have to restart quite often.
    Any sugguestions?

    Hi
If you have installed new OS and recovered the notebooks with Toshiba recovery CD then you shouldnt have any viruses or malware on the HDD.
Usually the HDD will be formatted using the recovery CD and all files (data and viruses) should be deleted!
I recommend formatting the whole HDD and to delete all partitions. Then recover the notebook using the Toshiba CD and reinstall the OS.
Finally you should get rid of all the malware and viruses.
If the notebook will run slowly and unstable after this procedure then I dont think that any virus could causes such problems.
