Hi. It may be worth checking which version of the AHT you are using, in view of this
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86492
It may be a bit tricky to carry out a visual inspection of the Main Logic Board Backside Fan - as it's the one at 90deg to all the others, in a grey plastic housing behind the hard drives.
You could try running Hardware Monitor
http://www.bresink.com/osx/HardwareMonitor.html
On this 'Original' DP 2 G5, the Main Logic Board Backside temp is 43.5C/110.3F, and the Main Logic Board Backside Fan is at 20%. However, note that on the "Original" G5s(before June 2004), OS X, and therefore Hardware Monitor, only reports the fan speed instructions being sent to the fans, not the actual fan speed.
If you have AHT 2.1 (the version should be on the system disc DVD that you ran it from) and you still have AppleCare, you can ask them for an updated version. Even if you don't still have AppleCare, it would be worth pointing out to them the problems this is causing you - and the distress...
If you have a more recent AHT - then it looks like a case for Applecare anyway - or the repair shop. Good Luck.

  • 92mm fan for MEGA PSU..... more pictures.

Looks like to me that the big problem with the MEGA series involves heat. Since the only exhaust fan is the PSU fan, a size change to a 92mm model, would be a big improvement. There seems to be enough room at the rear of the case to mount a 92mm fan externally. You would remove the stock 80mm fan, remove the grills, enlarge the openings slightly, and mount the new fan on the outside....splicing the wires into the old wires that went to the 80mm fan.
I see nothing but inproved airflow with this mod....anybody tried it?
    Read further...it's finished now.

    Water cooling for a SFF?
Anybody reading my posts should know I'm using a 92mm fan on my PSU. I tested six different fans for performance at the MEGA PSU default voltage...here are the results.
I gathered up all the 92mm fans I have, and devised a method to test for maximum performance (CFM) at a low voltage (5V).  I used a SFF with the 92mm fan alone cooling the PSU and CPU using duct-work.....no other fans running. I then noted the CPU idle temp with each fan. This happens to be the default voltage to the fan, using the PSU PWM fan control. The voltage remained the same during the idle testing. I also tested at max CPU usage......and found the results similar. The best fans at 5V were the best fans at the max.
Checking the rated currrent draw gave mixed results.....the fan that drew the most current, did not give the best performance.
The noise levels were as expected......the best performer (Delta) was the noisiest. The second best (Sunon) sounded the same as the others.
Here's the list of the ones tested.....listed from the worst performance at 5V to the best.
    #6 Power Logic #PL92D12M         1.7W
    #5 Evercool #EC9225M12BA        1.8W
    #4 Young-Lin #DBF902512H         2.8W   tie
    #3 Top-Motor #DF1209BA            2.1W   tie
    #2 Sunon #KD1209PTB2              2.4W   tie
    #1 Delta #AFB0912H                   2.5W   winner
The Delta beat the others easily......it kept the CPU 2C cooler than the other fans, at a slightly higher noise level. Not much though.
The other five fans sounded similar at five volts....I couldn't tell them apart during a blind test. I could identify the Delta however.
So what good is this sort of test?  .........I'm cooling this SFF using a single 92mm fan, driven by the default votage (5V) of the PSU. I needed slightly more airflow to cool the hard drive better than I was getting.
Using the Delta lowered my HD temp by almost 5C, keeps the CPU Temp low enough that the CPU fan stays off at an idle (28C ambient). The CPU fan only starts up at 50% CPU usage. So by using a more powerful/slightly noiser PSU fan, I have lowered the over-all noise level, and made the whole computer run cooler.
    It's a win/win solution.... :D

  • What is the part number for the fan for the dv7 2270 us

what is the part number for the fan for the dv7 2270 us

    Dear Kamat,
The HP manual (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01689926.pdf) says that the Fan/Heat sink assembly (depending on the graphics subsystems memory type), can be the following:
    516876-001 (for discrete)
    516331-001 (for UMA)
I dont know what graphics subsystem type is the DV7-2270US (VM189UA), but it doesnt matter in this case, becouse, if you search for those two part numbers, no one of them, is used in that computer. Check it your self:

  • I need an new Fan for my MacPro

    Hi,
i need a new Fan for my MacPro only the Fan because with the ball-bearing its something wrong when it's slow rotage (about 500rpm) it makes .klack*..klack...
I dont won't to send the Mac away for two Weeks only for replace the Fan.
    (i don't have two)
I think i have warranty beacuse i have bogth it on Nov 10, 2006.
It's possible that Apple send me only the Fan? It's that behind Memory expansion Slots.
It will be cheaper and easyer for both sides.

my only concern is that unless they inspect it themselves, i don't think they'd be willing to just send you a new one, because they don't know that you actually need one. I think they'd be suspicious, possibly thinking that you just want to sell the fan to someone else. However, they may work with you on this. I suggest you call Apple.

  • Best fan for this heat sink?

    ty in advanced

    Snakexor,
    Hard to tell.
It really depends on your tolerance to noise and/or your goals - OC, pimped out rig, etc.
I usually prefer something on the silent side. SilenX were good for me, pretty quiet. I have XP90 though, XP-120 doesn't fit neo2.
    Check out these guys:
    http://heatsinkfactory.com/cgi-bin/HFAstore.pl?user_action=detail&catalogno=HS-004
They usually know what they are talking about. There are 3 fans suggested with XP-120 there.
    Hope this helps.....

  • What is the best laptop cooling fan for a macbook pro?

I have my macbook on basically all day every day and I just want a nice cooling fan for underneath it so it doesn't overheat on me

I've never had any overheating issues, even when it is hard at work with several VMWare Fusion instances running concurrently. Just placed it on top of a Roadtech Coolpad (a passive laptop stand) and it's kept its cool thus far.
