Fan very noisy

Hi I bought a new Macbook 13" with 2GB RAM and 2.4 Ghz dual Cpu.
I found the fan very noisy and alvays conne4cted.
Can anyone help me What can I do ?

Try resetting the SMC. [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964]. The SMC controls the fans. If not, Take it to your nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. There may be a disconnected sensor in which case the computer would ramp the fan to full to avoid overheating.

  • The fan in my laptop became very noisy at minimum capacity after ins Win 8.

My laptop - HP Pavilion dv6-6b56er. After installing the Windows 8 the fan in my laptop became very noisy at minimum capacity. As far as I understand this is a common problem. I installed the latest version of HP Support Assistant and HP Support Framework, but there was an error during installation of HP Coolsense "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A programm run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor".
Sry for bad Eng, im using Google Translate.

It looks like this unit has received Windows 8 drivers.
How was the system upgraded to Windows 8?  Was it through a clean intall or an in-place upgrade?
Has all Windows 8, including switchable graphics in particular, been installed?
Here is the software page should you need it.
My notebook's fan was operating louder than usual when I upgraded to Windows 8.  This turned out to be that swtichable graphics was broken by the upgrade to Windows 8.  Effectively, both video cards were running simultaneously resulting in more heat being produced.  What resolved it for me was installing getting switchable graphics to work properly.  For me, this required a lot of work since my unit was not certified for Windows 8 and would not get any new software for Windows 8.  It's an old notebook, so this was expected.  However, your system does have a Windows 8 AMD driver for switchable graphics from HP, so I would start by making sure that specific driver is installed.

    Just updated details - os x 10.8.5 .....
found an answer that could have been problem with CPU and a runaway application (possibly Bin Weevils) which my son was running at the time.  I shall check the activity monitor next time to see what percentage cpu is being used..

  • Very noisy iMac, fans running at full speed even when performing smal tasks

I have a 2009 21 iMac, recently the computer became very noisy with the fans running at full speed all the time even when checking the email or just using Safari. I don't do anything crazy like 3d renderings so I don't know why the fans wont stop. I recently cleaned it but this didn't seem to solve the problem.
Anyone knows what's the problem and how can I fix it?
    Thanks

    What process is hogging CPU?
    Utilities > Activity Monitor.
Turn off Automatic Graphics Swtiching in System Preferences > Energy Saver, then change GPU to Better Performance.
The discreet graphics chipset is on the same diode as the CPU, so = heat.

  • (fans?) randomly get very noisy - not sure why

    Hi,
A few days ago my mac pro started randomly getting very noisy from time to time. it sounds like it rev's up to medium-high speed; not the full blast it can do but enough where it is annoying and clearly not normal. It happens every 10 to 20 minutes, goes on for a few, and then quiets down again. I can only assume it is a fan making the noise but dont know for sure.
I really don't know what could be causing it because not only has it not happened before until a week ago but I am not running any intensive apps at all yet it still happens.
I'm not really sure if anyone can help, but would appreciate it if anyone had suggestions on any tests i can run to check if something is wrong or if there is anything I can do about it.
    Thanks

The first thing I would do is open the case and blow out all the dust. If there is a lot of buildup, esp on the heatsink ribbing on the procs and video card, it could easily cause your increased fan activity.

  • Boot into OS 9 = very noisy fan

It's been years since I booted into OS 9, so I gave it a shot to run a few programs that don't work in classic but did upon booting OS 9.
However, the fan is very noisy. I do have the latest firmware along with a 360w psu.
OS x is very quiet, OS 9 is ready for take off!
Any work around? or do I grab my helmet and pilots license!

    Hi-
I do have the latest firmware along with a 360w psu.
    This firmware?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120171
    Or later?
The 4.4.8 was supposed to help with fan noise (not from the PSU, though).
Other than that, though, fan noise in OS 9 is historically a problem; much more so than in OS X.
Heck, Apple even posted a KBase article, telling owners to "expect" noise:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA25592
Any work around? or do I grab my helmet and pilots license!
"MDD125 heavy on Runway 67A, you are cleared for takeoff!"
    Interesting approach Here.

  • Tecra S2 very noisy fan

I have just got my S2 (used to have a S1) but the fan is very noisy. It's so noisy it is even anoying me during working.
I've upgraded the Power Save driver and the Power save software. But een than the noise stays.
The fan also seems to run continuously at full speed. Especially during loading the batteries up again.
    In battery mode
In battery mode the fan starts, goes to high speed, stops for a short period, starts, goes to high speed, stops for a shotr while, starts etc. etc This cycle is repeated over and over again. Very anoying.
Why not as with the S1 series where the fan seems to be running constantly but than at low speed so you wont hear it.
    On full power mode
The fan is as in battery mode going regular to high and goesback down again to lower speed also with regular periods. Why not leave the fan running at average speed?
And as written above when the battery get's charged the fans keeps running at high noisy speed!!!!!!
Isn't there a possibel hardware update with a fan with less noise? Maybe by other type of fan.
I'm thinking to go back to my S1 again and sell this S2 as it's very anoying while working/studying.

    Hi
As far as I know on some units the running fan is normal.
It's also normal that the fan make such a noise.
I know that its possible to run 3rd part tools to let the fan run all the time in slow speed.
I think you can find them in net.
Furthermore you can try to make BIOS update if one available is on Toshiba download site.
You can find all of them on
    http://www.toshiba-tro.de/subpage/bios.html
By the way the only way out to change some cooling fan settings you can find in Power Management.
    Good luck
    Bye

  • Mac Pro fan is very noisy after installing mavericks

    Hi everyone,
on my early 2008 Mac Pro i had a problem with a noisy fan. Updated from 10.5 to 10.6.8 and the problem seemed solved.
I decided to upgrade again to 10.9 (i wanted to install Logic X, which would not run on 10.6.8) and now the fan is noisy again.
I checked the activity monitor and there's nothing major going on with the CPU.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance

  • T60p Very noisy fan

2613-ETU WXP-SP2 and all Windows Updates plus all System Updates except those recent ones that only exist to handle new ThinkPad models.
My fan is noisy, to the point of rattling, sometimes.
I have 3 years remaining on my 5-year next-day/on-site warranty.  If I can get Lenovo to send a fan, should I replace it myself?

It is something that you can replace on your own. But Lenovo Tech Support might not send the fan to you. They don't consider the Fan a Customer Replacable Unit. It won't hurt to ask. But I suggest that you ask for a Tech to replace it for you. They might have parts that they can't ship to you like thermal grease.

It would be helpful if you were to identify the model of MBP you have.
The noise makers on a MBP are the fan(s), the HDD and the optical drive.  Can you locate the exact position where the noise is coming from?
    Ciao.

    Hello Brauner,
Sorry to hear your Quicksilver is misbehaving.
Hold your hand to the metal surrounding the fan - both the case fan and the power supply and see if you can pick up a vibration. Holding a long, thin screwdriver - which acts as a stethoscope - will also work (as long as you don't drop it into the fan).
Dual processor QSs tend to run hot, which is not conducive to long life of power supplies. I fitted a slightly more powerful (and noisier) CPU fan by Evercool - EC6025H12CA - which keeps the CPU cooler and I presume the power supply, too. A slot fan might help, too, though I haven't tried it yet.
Good luck with the Quicksilver; I really like mine and have talked a half-dozen friends into what seems like a QS club.

  • VERY NOISY i-MAC

My mid 2010 imac's fans are very noisy and I have had them fixed by Apple approx 5 times! It is happening again and I am trying to get to the route of the problem myself, and so have downloaded a fan control software. In the software you can control the speed of both the Hard drive fans and the Optical drive fans. However this does not control the fan which is making all the noise!!!! which fan is making the noise???
    Regards,

If the machine is still under AppleCare, take the machine back to Apple and request they replace the machine. They normally will after 3 repairs of the same problem assuming the machine is covered by AppleCare. BTW  you are not running OS X 9.0.x unless you have a Mac 10-12 years old. Please correct your profile so we know what version of OS X it is running.
