Fan won't run anymore

After I've reseted the PMU, the computer fan won't run anymore and I think that is what's causing the computer to overheat. Is there any way I can fix this?

I just tried cleaning the dust in the holes with a Q-tip and I think I accidentally poked the fan and it started running again. Did it stop running because dust was building up? If so, is there any way I can get most of the dust out? Thanks.

• Trial premiere pro cs6 won't run anymore

Hello, I downloaded a trial for premiere pro cs6 yesterday and it worked great. But today, it wouldn't run anymore. I got the message that the program 'could not find any capable video play modules. Please update your video display drivers and start again'. I totaly didn't get it, but i restarted my laptop and then it worked. But an hour later, after closing the program, i wanted to open it again and i got the same message. This time, it didn't run after restarting.
Can someone please tell me what to do? How do i 'update my video display drivers'...? And how come i have to do this all of a sudden? I have a brand new laptop and i worked with premiere pro cs5 before.

>How do i 'update my video display drivers'...?
You go to the vendor web site (nVidia or ATI or ???) and check updates for your brand/model

• Audition CS6 won't run anymore

My version of CS6 used to run perfectly until I used Malwarebytes, which removed amtlib.dll
Now it won't run at all, even though I've put amtlib.dll back. I keep on getting the 0xc000007b error, and I can't uninstall the program at all. What do I do to fix this problem? It's extremely frustrating. Nothing I have done has fixed this, and I've tried many times to remove it, such as command prompt, the windows uninstaller (it doesn't show up), and multiple programs such as ccleaner.

If Ryclark's suggestion still doesn't work I would strongly recommend finding and downloading the free version of Revo Uninstaller, from Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall probl… The Pro version can be used for 30 days as a trial; speaking personally I think it's well worth the money!  The Portable version is especially useful to keep on a pen drive; you can then use it on any computer.
I've needed to use it on more than one occasion when faced with similar problems (a program that is now "corrupted" but cannot be uninstalled by any standard method).  If Audition is not listed as installed when you run Revo, use the Forced Uninstall mode and simply point it to the folder where AA currently is.
One word of caution: Revo Pro creates a full back of your registry etc., before beginning the uninstall routine.  I don't think the free version does, so do create a System restore point before running it.

• Mid 2012 MacBook Air: fan won't run faster when overheated

mid 2012 MacBook Air, system (tried Mountain lion/Mavericks/Yosemite, all have the same problem)
WHAT HAPPENED:
The other day I was watching some flash video on the couch, and I heard the fan running like crazy. The laptop shut off 2 seconds later-- no warnings, just black out all of a sudden. (ps: I usually use it on the desk. Only used in bed/couch for a few times)
It won't start if I press the button immediately afterwards. Instead, it will restart itself after a few minutes, no matter what.
I shut it down and let it cool down for about an hour. From then on it wouldn't last more than 5 minutes when used heavily (Facetime, chrome together) and about an hour when used lightly (only one app like chrome). Then it shuts off without warning like before. The laptop felt really hot, and I couldn't hear the fan.
The battery drop down menu says "service battery", and doesn't disappear after a few restarts.
WHAT THE APPLE GENIUS SAID:
I took it to the Apple Store the next day, a genius ran a hardware test, and it showed no problem at all. After the test and restart, the "service battery" warning was gone too.
The genius said it seemed everything is ok. The battery only ran 159 cycles, and it's supposed to last 1000 cycles.
But he doesn't know why the laptop would shut down out of nothing. If we had apple care, they could bring it back and stress it out, to see whether it shuts off and find the problem. I just brought it home to see what happens.
WHAT I TRIED:
1. Max CPU: the fan doesn't react, still runs at 2000 rpm.
2. Hardware Test:
when the laptop is hot, it won't survive the test, shuts off during the test.
when it's cool, it passes the regular test in 1min30s, showing no problems.
when it's cool, the extended test cannot last 3min before it dies.
3. Fan test, it can run at maximum speed. In this case the CPU temperature will drop quickly.
4. The Enclosure Bottom, Memory Controller and the Mem Bank temperature doesn't seem to change. (I don't know if they are supposed to be that way...)
Please give me some advice about what you think the problem is, and what I can do about it. Thank you all so much!

If it didn't show any problems in the Apple Store, maybe its your ambient temperature? Although even this shouldn't cause your machine to behave the way it is currently. You need to record it or something then show Apple the issue.

• Upgrading to iTunes 7.1.1 - iTunes won't run anymore but no error message

I just downloaded update 7.1.1 and now I cannot start iTunes anymore. I open iTunes and a bar appears which says "Upgrading iTunes library". After showing 3 little bars in the big bar, nothing happens anymore. No error message at all and Quick Time Player seems to run just fine. Any suggestions?

Jason,I used the troubleshooting link you gave and so far have 1.Fixed Digital Signing for Windows drivers.(didn't help) 2.Removing Itunes configuration files.
In this one I was told to delete the SC info.sidb file (I didn't have one of these when I got to the folder where it was supposed to be)The thing I haven't done is the mscofig.instruction. I was saving it for last as it sounded like it could really make a lot of changes to my computer. The Itunes installation icon is still on my desktop so I clicked on it and there was a link that said it would repair missing or damaged files in the Itunes software. It didn't help either. I can click on Itunes all day long and it won't open.I can't access the library either. I am going to do the last step you suggested and uninstall my security software and see if that helps. I appreciate all the help Jason.

• Safari and Internet Explorer won't run anymore on 10.2.8

I cant get Safari or Internet Explorer (IE) to work on my iMac anymore. I can get iTines downloads and standard updates, but Safari and IE won't work - usually Safari will open (IE will usually not open completely - hangs up and must be force quit). Any ideas?

Try deleting the preference files for each.
Go to Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.Safari.plist and com.microsoft.explorer.plist.

• MacBook Pro odd display issue, won't run anymore

This is a 2006 MacBook Pro 15" A1211  Intel core 2 duo 2.16 model.  Diagnostics says nothing is wrong.  The computer is no longer functional as it won't go beyond this screen.  Any ideas what failed on this?    Initially the odd video pattern was intermittent and if you booted a few times you'd get in and be able to use the computer and could get in via safe mode, but not any longer.

This is not a petty software issue. You Mac has a hardware problem, and you need to get it looked at.
You can make an appointment at the genius bar at your local Apple store, and they will evaluate it for nothing, in warranty or out of warranty.

• ITunes won't run anymore.

I have had itunes for about 6 months now, and it has never encountered any problems, suddenly i get this error:

I have reinstalled it many times, and quicktime, each seperatly, and it still says that problem when i try to open itunes, does anyone know how you resolve this problem??
dell   Windows XP Pro

good, you've got a standard version of XP Pro ... which means that you've probably got a version of the QT #80040707 that we don't see so much any more (caused by either a damaged file, or compromised installation configuration information). so let's first try the old-fashioned technique for dealling with it.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

• IPod won't run anymore

I tried out the linuxipod but it didn't work out too well, so I got the newest version of iTunes and reinstalled the firmware with it. Then it said, the iPod needs reboot. The iPod showed a loading screen an than ran completely black. Since that, I cannot turn the iPod on anymore, whatsoever.
The screen stays black all the time, you cannot hear the disk drive or notice anything else. Plugging the usb cable doesn't have any effect either. Since the iPod doesn't even turn on, it is also not noticed by the OS at all.
What the ****????

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

• Macromedia software won't run anymore!

I have a Mac Mini with OSX 10.3.9, I have been using Dreamweaver for years but recently it's stopped working, along with Fireworks, Flash and Freehand, all of which are MX 2004.
If I try and open any of them the icon just bounces a bit then stops and nothing opens. I have checked that they are all set to 'read & write' in the info.
i recently had some problems and had to reboot from disks and do various things, it may been since then. I have re-installed each program, but they still aren't working. Someone suggested it might be the 'disk permissions' but having checked through a help document regarding this I am still having the problems with the programs.
Can anyone help me at all???
Thanks!

Hi ben_there-

• Itunes downloaded movie won't run anymore

I upgraded my Macbook from Leopard to Mountain Lion and then upgraded iTunes.  Now when I download a movie off of the iTunes store and try and play it, the error message comes up that says:  This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes.  What is going on here!!!?

I am having the same problem right now and I can't seem to find an answer, I really wish I could help you :/

• Fan won't stop running

Early 2008 27 inch iMac running latest version of Lion.
I had a hard drive that kept corrupting files (not the original HD, been replaced once by apple) so I replaced it with a new (ish) 1 Tb WD green.  But after I did this my fan won't stop running.  I thought I had disturbed the HD temp sensor so I opened it back up again and made sure it was properly on the HD closed it but still constant fan.
from istat pro I'm getting readings
HD  37
CPU  29
CPU heatsink 28
Airport Card 30
GPU heatsink 33
HD Bay 38
Mem Controller  29
Optical Drive 30
All my temp values are there, so I assume my sensors are fine.  I don't have AHT as I don't have my original install disks (I lost them somewhere in the last 7 moves between houses)  I already tried resetting the SMC.
Can anyone tell me if these readings are normal?  Are any high that would be causing my fan to stay on?

Um, OK. I've just realized that the fan isn't running any more, and I've been using it for a couple of hours. I'm not sure if I should do anything else or just not look a gift horse in the mouth. Anyone have an opinion?
