Fans constantly on, until i start ichat

Hi, having some strange issue with a MacBook Pro that is 4 weeks old.
Had all the data from my old MacBook Pro transferred and the fans on the new computer are constantly running & it is really noisy. Was playing with some apps today & noticed that this stops when iChat is on. Any advice?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
No idea about iChat, but you might check in Activity Monitor for a hung up process that might be running in the background and hogging the CPU. It may even have something to do with iChat since it seems to stop when you turn iChat on. Possibly it hangs up when you turn iChat off or something like that.
Good luck!

  • Full fans constantly on

I currently have a problem with my mini. First of all it had 10.5 installed on it with no problems. I decided to upgrade to 10.6 which working fine. After a couple of days I did notice that the sound was grayed out. So I went to system preferences to check and I could not change anything. Okay fine that didn't really bother me until my Bluetooth now was grayed out a few days later. So today I tried to reset the PRAM (Command, Option, P, and R) which did nothing. Okay so then I decided to reset the PMU. This is were the problem started with the full fans constantly on and will not turn off. So I tried resetting it a few more time and it still stays on. Now I did notice that if I put the machine to sleep which it does turn off the fans but know the sleep light does turn on anymore. Any ideas before I call apple care as I really don't want to do a reinstall.
    Thx

Since you have an Intel Mini, you should have applied the SMC reset procedure, rather than the PMU reset procedure (which is only for PPC Minis).
A known side-effect of wrongly applying the PMU procedure to an Intel Mini is that the fans will run full blast.
The only possible fix is to apply the correct SMC reset procedure -- though this will not always fix the problem, since it appears in some small number of cases that applying the PMU procedure does permanent damage to the logic board of the Intel Mini.
The SMC reset is described here:

  • Mac Book Pro fan constantly running

For a couple of days the fan of my (15" late 2011) MacBook Pro has been constantly running and the Mac has become sluggish. The CPU temperature is 156 °F. It seems that the problem would be caused by "coreservicesd" process taking a huge percentage (57%) of the Mac RAM.
What is wrong? Restarting the Mac does not help. Thank you.
I am running OS X 10.9.3 with 8 Go. RAM and 500 Go. HD

  • Satellite L650 - Fan constantly at 90%

I have a L650. My cooling fan constantly cools at 90%, exept if I turn on the computer after a standby, then the fan does start at all! So for me its either 90% or nothing!
I have the newest BIOS, so that not the problem, and changing power management settings doesn't help either
Anyone have any ideas or is it just sending the computer back for repairs? The damn thing is only 5 month old :(

Its all original toshiba software. All drivers are updated including BIOS and GPU. I know its possibly to change power settings in windows, but its changes nothing, its still fanning at 90%... Except after a standby session, then the fan doesn't start at all, causing warnings and overheating... All in all, it doesn't matter what the core temperatures are, it keeps cooling at high fan speed.

  • MBP Retina 15' fans constantly spinning up to 5k RPM

I recently got my new MBP 15' Retina with the following specs: 2.7 Core i7 with 16GB, 1600 MHz RAM. I use office for mac (outlook and powerpoint mostly) and a lot of Safari (1-2 windows, up to 7 tabs at most). I don't play any games on this machine, nor do I use high memory intensive apps like FinalCut and the like. I got Sophos anti virus running in the back, I occasionally use parallels with Win7 (very rarely) and other than that I virtually got no memory intensive programs running. Average temps according to iStat: 33-50
Yet my machine's fans constantly speed up to around 5k RPM (both fans) for about half a minute and then cycle back to ~2k RPM for about 10 minutes. This continues throughout the entire day.
I have the latest software version (10.8.2) and I already tried resetting SMC (shut down, adapater plugged in, Shift+Control+Option+Power button - release at once, start up). No difference. Still the same issue.
    Ideas anyone?

2,000 rpm is the normal state for the fans - it's not high at all (mine can go up to 6,000+ rpms and I can hear them then).
Your fans are always going to be running and around 2,000 rpms is about as low as it gets.

  • Preloader Not Loading Until The Start of Lesson In Captivate 7

I created a Scorm 2004 compliant lesson using Captivate 7. The file size is ~7MB. When I load and run the lesson on our LMS I don't see the preloader until 3-4 seconds before the file loads. I'm staring at a blank screen for about 45 seconds before anything happens. I have the preloader set at 10% but I can't get it to work.
I loaded the file to one of our FTP sites and ran it on an html page and it does the same thing.
Our customers are asking us why there is no indication that the lesson is loading and all I can say is it's a problem with Captivate 7.
I upgraded to 7 because I was told the problem was fixed, but it's still bad.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

Yes, it's set to look in the Cp7 preloader folder. I found this on a Captivate website and I think it answers the question.
"As mentioned, preloaders are only really applicable for HTM/SWF output. But what you may not realize is that they will only work if the content is served from a web server over HTTP. Conversely, the preloaders will NOT work if the same content is served up from a LAN server drive over TCP/IP.  This is due to the fact that SWF preloaders need to communicate with the server to calculate and show the percentage of file currently loaded.  This communication works with web servers, but not with LAN servers."
Unfortunately, Cp7 preloader is going to work on our LMS. I'm going to build a preloader class in Flash and call the Cp7 swf using that.
    Thanks for your help

If you still have Captivate 6 on your PC, then make sure that the preloader in this Cp7 project is not pointing at a folder in the Cp6 install directory.  It should be using a Cp7 preloader.

Working with fcp 6.0.6 I can't see the clip in the viewer until I start or play. Used to show fine.

    This is the FCPX forum.
Sounds like the viewer is in wireframe mode or is alpha display mode. If this isn't the case you need to go to the Final Cut Studio forum and give more details.

  • Buddy List window does not appear when starting iChat in Leopard

In Tiger when I started the iChat application, the Buddy List window always appeared immediately. In Leopard, it does not appear and I must choose Window from the menu bar and then select AIM Buddy List. Does anyone know how to correct this so the Buddy List window appears automatically when I start iChat in Leopard?

  • Auto Start IChat program at System Start?

Is there a way to automatically start IChat when the system starts? IE: Auto Login so I don't have to "Manually" start it each time?

    NOTE for some.
It is worth noting that on some (Slower) Macs that, as the Start Up procedure actually connects to the Network quite late in the order of things, you may have problems.
The Mac will in fact start to launch apps listed in the Login Items before the whole Start Up procedure has finished.
This can mean if iChat is the only item or high on the list in Login Items that it can not find the Network and Log In before Start Up has finished.
You may have to delete iChat from it's position in the list as it is not drag-able and re-enter it to have it later in the order of things.

Are you using any VST plug-ins or audio units? Then check, if they are still compatible. You may need to uninstall them.

  • Fan constantly blowing on my iMac

Why is my fan constantly blowing on my imac

Now we know that the problem is caused by a process in OS X which is consuming all the CPU. This generates heat, that makes the fans work hard.
Open Activity Monitor, and choose "All Processes" in "Show" in the toolbar. Then, order the processes by CPU pressing the CPU button under the toolbar. Finally, telll us which processes are consuming more CPU

  • Fan runs full speed at start up

HP Pavilion p6-2037cb purchased 1/19/12.  Windows 7.  There is no error message.
When I turn the computer on after it has been off all night the fan runs full speed.  This happened a few times in the first month.  The first time it stopped itself after a few minutes.  Then I learned to stop it by simply restarting the computer.  This still works, but what used to happen a couple times a month, has happened twice in two days so I worry the problem is getting worse.
It never happens when I am using the computer because I do nothing that requires a lot of cpu's or causes heating.  I just surf the web and do email.  No games or videos or TV.
If it is a fan connection problem I would like to know the nearest repair service.  I would rather bring it in than ship it.  But I can't find a list of authorized warranty repair service centers.  I followed links on HP Support Assistant but got sent to a site that does not list Pavilions.
I need to know why the fan runs full speed at start up and where to get it fixed near where I live.
