Fans for x220

There were warnings about X220 over- heating everywhere before I bought it with a i7 processor also rumored  to run hot.
And even though my X61 fried after only 3 years, i bought x220 anyway.
Just before New Years the fan gets noisy and New year's eve the computer gets very hot and shuts off..
Giving me "FAN ERROR" on reboot..
 There are (2) P/Ns  04W0435N and 04W0436N --WHY?)
And, I cannot discern which is the "right" one and with no specs  I can't find part through 3rd party.
- So I am obliged to go in que after que to talk to Tech Support.
Had to give full "Rank and Serial #" multiple times and wait for tech
to confirm part # then wait for Case Number A04M3YY
then go in to a que to pay
-- the entire process took 1.5 hours!!!!
I need a "New Fan" and a BIG one after this run around with Lenovo...horrible!!!  I tell you, horrible.  Compunded by the fact that I must have the part hand delivered to Guatemala and the people are leaving Tommorrow... so i get snagged on shipping, too

Sorry to hear about your trialing times with Lenovo.
The correct part no for the x220 fan and heatsink assy. is 04W0435 taken directly from Lenovo's parts list for the x220(see http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-77191*).  There is no higher capacity fan to the best of my knowledge.  Other temporary steps you might have taken are blowing out the dust from the fan area and using a tiny amount of light oil on the fan bearing and then manually spinning the fan with compressed air to work in the oil.
I also have an x220 with an I7 processor and can run hot but only in turbo or super turbo modes.  I use tpfancontrol software to deal with this and it works great not only to keep the cpu cool but also to save battery power.
Incidently,  I have found ebay a reliable and much more economical alternative to ordering parts from IBM provided you have the time to wait for shipping.
Good luck

    Dear Kamat,
The HP manual (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01689926.pdf) says that the Fan/Heat sink assembly (depending on the graphics subsystems memory type), can be the following:
    516876-001 (for discrete)
    516331-001 (for UMA)
I dont know what graphics subsystem type is the DV7-2270US (VM189UA), but it doesnt matter in this case, becouse, if you search for those two part numbers, no one of them, is used in that computer. Check it your self:

  • I need an new Fan for my MacPro

    Hi,
i need a new Fan for my MacPro only the Fan because with the ball-bearing its something wrong when it's slow rotage (about 500rpm) it makes .klack*..klack...
I dont won't to send the Mac away for two Weeks only for replace the Fan.
    (i don't have two)
I think i have warranty beacuse i have bogth it on Nov 10, 2006.
It's possible that Apple send me only the Fan? It's that behind Memory expansion Slots.
It will be cheaper and easyer for both sides.

my only concern is that unless they inspect it themselves, i don't think they'd be willing to just send you a new one, because they don't know that you actually need one. I think they'd be suspicious, possibly thinking that you just want to sell the fan to someone else. However, they may work with you on this. I suggest you call Apple.

  • Best fan for this heat sink?

    ty in advanced

    Snakexor,
    Hard to tell.
It really depends on your tolerance to noise and/or your goals - OC, pimped out rig, etc.
I usually prefer something on the silent side. SilenX were good for me, pretty quiet. I have XP90 though, XP-120 doesn't fit neo2.
    Check out these guys:
    http://heatsinkfactory.com/cgi-bin/HFAstore.pl?user_action=detail&catalogno=HS-004
They usually know what they are talking about. There are 3 fans suggested with XP-120 there.
    Hope this helps.....

  • What is the best laptop cooling fan for a macbook pro?

I have my macbook on basically all day every day and I just want a nice cooling fan for underneath it so it doesn't overheat on me

I've never had any overheating issues, even when it is hard at work with several VMWare Fusion instances running concurrently. Just placed it on top of a Roadtech Coolpad (a passive laptop stand) and it's kept its cool thus far.

  • Replacement fan for g5 tower

where can u buy a fan for a g5 power mac tower? i cant seem to find one.

There are several after market possibilities, with the Zalman VF700 and VF900 coolers being preferred:

Hereis a how to (different graphics card):

A similar fan, the Vantec iceberq 5 would work as well.
The VGA cooler from Arctic Cooling or Vantec Iceberq 6 is an excellent option as well.

  • Fan for GT70 OND-492

I was wondering if there is an upgraded fan for my NB.  Possibly a new back cover that might make it breathe better. I am looking for any cooling upgrade for my NB. I already have it sitting on a NB cooler (CoolerMaster X3). Thanks for any help or suggestion you can offer.

I ordered Coollabratories Thermal pad, it showed up today. Will be installing that tonight.  Still looking for a better fan though.
