Fans Go Mental When Battery Charging

Hi,
Is it normal that the fans speed up to 5500 RPM when charging the battery?
Also the base of the macbook pro gets extremely hot while the battery is charging.

This seems to have done something to the battery. It is now saying 3 hours 38 minutes of use left after a full charge. Previously I was getting a lot less than that.
The trouble with the fans is NOT solved. When charging now they stay at around 4488 RPM. This is reduced slightly (1000 rpm) but still I do not understand why when the macbook is left idle while charging the fans spin like crazy.
This has only started happening since installed snow leopard.

  • When battery charge dropps to 41% the computer shuts down completely.

This started happening just recent, I downloaded and installed the battery update - did not make a difference, when the battery charge reaches 41% my macbook pro 17 shut down immediatly without warning. Any help recognizing this problem source?

  • Audio/vibrate alert when battery charge reaches 100%???

I just got my iPhone 3GS about two weeks ago (before the 3.1 update.) And once the battery would reach 100% when charging, the phone would either play an audio tone or it would vibrate (if the silence switch was on.) Now since 3.1 it's not doing it anymore.
Anyone else notice this? I wonder why they would remove such a brilliant feature?

I have the 3G since it was introduced and never noticed this feature. The only time it would vibrate twice is when I put it into the dock or connect it to my mac to charge and the silent switch is activated.
I just charged from 90% to 100% and didn't get any notification at all.

  • When battery charging ,the left of MBP is very too hot to suffer

when charging the battery of macbook pro(101)that was bought in 2012, the left part of  the computer is too hot to suffer, which is near the range of the connector between the computer and the recharge. is it normal?  what I  worry about is that the component of computer working under high temperature will be less life.

It will not harm the computer, That is where the dc board is, it can get very hot sometimes, especially since the majority of the heat producing components are near the upper right corner too. If its very very hot, I mean like enough to burn you then maybe there is a problem.

  • Computer Shuts Down When Battery Gets Low

I have a few interconnected issues and one peripheral issue:
    1) When battery charge gets down to between 20% and 10%, by MacBook shuts off. It doesn't go to sleep. It just shuts off.
    2) Battery loses charge quickly (I get about 1.5 hours of use out of it, which is no good for a machine that's a year old, right?)
    3) I think the machine runs to hot and fan gets too loud.
The above all occur when set for "better battery life" and when doing light web surfing, ichat, and playing music in itunes. I did the firmware update and no change to these problems.
    Then there's this...
    4) Distorted screen, specifically horizontal green lines, when trying to watch a DVD through FrontRow.
Anyone experience this? I just am curious what to expect before I take the machine in...again (it was treated for RSD).
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I'm running on battery now.. saving all my work diligently pretty much every minute on the minute... currently 1hr 42mins remaining of battery life - so it says.
This compleatly unnanounced shut-down has happened twice to me now, and it's very disconcerting. This is the only problem I've ever had with my MacBook (bought it August last year) and is annoying as I KNOW it was this 'update' is responsible. I lost about 40 mins of work because of this yesterday and am pretty annoyed about it frankly. My battery seemed fine before hand - I actually was typing away happily on it in the back of a four hour car journey just last week, eeking out the charge by turing the screen right down etc. SURELY if this is known, and is obviously software/firmware created, Apple can offer a similar patch to correct it??
I'm in the UK and a day-trip away from any Apple Store. Do I have to phone Apple and ask for a replacement battery? Is that how it works (like I said - I've never had technical difficulties with my MacBook previously). I searched the site and found this number: 0870 876 0753, I think that's right. What should I have ready on the phone?
REALLY hope this can get sorted soon as I can't really trust the machine at the moment without it being plugged in, making taking it out anywhere (which is why I got it - and loved it) pretty redundant.

  • Fan speed gets faster when i charge my macbook

    hi guys.
Actually, i am an user of MacBook Air(2010 late) though,
the reason i'm asking you of my problem here is just this section has much more users than Air section.
Anyway, i have a problem. i think this phenomenon occured to my laptop these days and the problem is literally same with the subject.
Fan speed gets faster when i charge my macbook air!
There's no more process or something in charging, totally in same environment!
I'm assuming that the charger has a problem like over-voltage..but i'm ignorant of this so.. just it's my guess.
    please help me!
    OS X Lion is installed.
    thanks guys!

More heat is generated by the charging system while the battery is being charged than when it is already fully charged and charging has automatically stopped. More heat means more fan activity, so it sounds to me as though what you're seeing is to be expected. However, other users of MBAs would know better than I do just how much of a temperature and fan-speed difference is normal, so I hope you will repost in the proper forum and get some responses there. MBAs and MBPs are quite different.

  • Hi! I'm just having a little trouble when it comes to battery charging of my iPhone 5 with its new iOS 7! It doesn't indicates that the battery is fully charge unlike the old version of iOS! They said it should be pulsating but it's not

Hi! I'm just having a little trouble when it comes to battery charging of my iPhone 5 with its new iOS 7! It doesn't indicates that the battery is fully charge unlike the old version of iOS! I already read some reviews and discussion about this. They said that the lightning bolt should pulsate when charging but it's not!

Thanks for the replies. It took a while not hearing anything so thought I was alone. I have done many of the suggestions already. The key here is that it occurs on both phones with apps, and phones still packaged in a box.
A Genius Bar supervisor also checked his Verizon data usage log and found the same 6 hour incremental use. Suprisingly, he did not express much intrigue over that. Maybe he did, but did not show it.
I think the 6 hour incremental usage is the main issue here. I spoke with Verizon (again) and they confirmed that all they do is log exactly when the phone connected to the tower and used data. The time it records is when the usage started. I also found out that the time recorded is GMT.
What is using data, unsolicited, every 6 hours?
    Why does it change?
Why does it only happen on the iPhone 5 series and not the 4?
Since no one from Apple seems to be chiming in on this, and I have not received the promised calls from Apple tech support that the Genius Bar staff said I was suppose to receive, it is starting to feel like something is being swept under the rug.
I woke up the other day with another thought ... What application would use such large amounts of data? Well ... music, video, sound and pictures of course. Well ... what would someone set automatically that is of any use to them? hmmm ... video, pictures, sound. Is the iPhone 5 succeptible to snooping? Can an app be buried in the IOS that automatically turns on video and sound recording, and send it somewhere ... every 6 hours? Chilling. I noted that the smallest data usage is during the night when nothing is going on, then it peaks during the day. The Genius Bar tech and I looked at each other when I drew this sine wave graph on the log print outs during an appointment ...

  • How can I turn off battery charging when plugged in to power on a plane?

    Hi,
is there an app that can turn off battery charging while plugged in?
I regularly fly from Australia to Europe (22 hours on the plane!) but the power outlet usually stalls when draining too much power
(e.g. 85 Watts for my Macbook Pro battery).
    Any solutions available?
I used to just take out the battery, however, that  is not possible anymore on the Macbook Pro.
    Thanks for your help.
    Christoph

But why turn off battery charging, makes no sense in this case. You either run off the battery or plug it in and run off the battery while it is charging.
The power draw won't change appreciably.
My bad power consumption will change
It would seem the best strategy would be to get on with a fully charged battery plug in the laptop and let it trickle charge as you use it. Given the length of the flight this should give you the longest use with the minimum amount of draw from the seat outlet.

  • HT4310 why can I see a battery charging icon on one computer when my 4th generation ipod is connected, but not on another computer ?

I have a fourth generation ipod. when I plug it into my windows 7 pc at work, the battery charge icon appears. when i plug the same ipod into my windows 7 pc at home, no battery charging icon appears. any way to get it to show?

Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port at home?  Do you have any other devices that are connected via USB on your PC at home?
I assume you are using the same cable you used to plug the Shuffle in at work?

Besweet, I'm having the very same problem with 60GB colour which was bought new and worked for 6 months before suddenly just not being recognised by PC. I hadn't changed anything at all.
I've followed all troubleshooting advice and reinstalled and updated iTunes and iPod updater software but all troubleshooting routes seem to hit the dead end of either the need to access the iPod via the PC (which isn't possible as it's not showing up at all) or the iPod in disc mode stuck at "ok to disconnect".
It's still under 1yr warranty so will have to take to a dealer.
I'm sorry that's not much help for you but at least you know it's not a unique problem.

  • IPhone 3G won't charge from car adapter when battery is low

I regularly use my Griffin car charger to charge my iPhone 3G. It seems to work well most of the time.
When my iPhone 3G is very low on battery charge, I discovered that the the iPhone will no longer charge via the car charger. Only way I can recharge the iPhone is via the cable connected directly to my computer or via the wall adapter.
Is this a normal behavior? Very unfortunate if it is since forcing a mobile user to connect to a wall outlet or a computer makes no sense.

Copied from my previous post in this thread.
I know if the iPhone's internal temperature if over a designated temp, you can't charge the battery until the internal temp has been reduced. This is protection for the battery and internal components since charging increases the internal temp.
When this occurs, the charging indicator will switch to showing as being fully charged.
    Are you using a case?
Charging increases the internal temp of the iPhone, and using GPS will also increase the internal temp of the iPhone. Combined must have increased the internal temp of your iPhone past the designated temp when charging stops. Using a case can prevent heat from being dissipated properly.

  • Battery charges when asleep but will NOT charge while awake

    Hello -
By battery will charge when off/asleep but will not charge while awake. It just slowly drains to nothing and dies even though adapter is plugged in. magsafe adapter light is green when open/on and orange when off/asleep and lights on battery indicate charging while in the latter state. still using stock battery that came with computer when I got it a few years ago, so it's not new by any means, but when fully charged lasts as long as it used to. I would think maybe charger is issue, but it DOES charge, just not while awake. not sure why computer wouldn't still work correctly while plugged in if in battery indicator it says power source is "power adapter," but its not. I have tried resetting PMU and calibrating battery. the combo of the two seemed to work when having issue a few months ago, but it just started doing it again. frustrating because once it dies I have to wait several hours until its fully charged again, so it cramps the workflow... any ideas? battery info from profiler below.

Scott - Your answer ultimately led me to the answer, albeit months later, after much internal deliberation and some trial and error... thanks!
Ruled out battery (as crazy as that sounds - it's had a bajillion cycles) as it didn't make sense that battery would charge but wouldn't work while awake. I have a friend whose battery is completely shot and his still works as long as magsafe is plugged in, and mine wouldn't even do that. tried another adapter and that worked. then tried mine in a different plug. so in the end, turns out I had a bum powerstrip... mag safe / battery recharge works properly when just plugged in somewhere different.
So no need to buy a new charger or battery (yet!)
    thanks to all,
    Ian

Assuming you are disconnecting from line power, when you say switched on, do you mean it was shutdown or in sleep mode?  If sleep mode the battery will still drain because sleep still keeps some things active and the battery does drain a little.  However, to go from 100% to 79% charge overnight is a bit excessive in sleep mode.  Unless you have some processes set to activate over night by the cron file and do things like backup the system.
