Fans go on at full speed 1 min. after computer goes to sleep

Problem: Fans go to full speed 1 min. after it goes to sleep-mode. The fans will stay on until it wakes up from sleep-mode.
Computer: Apple Power Mac G5 Dual 2.3, OS 10.4.9, 4.5 GB RAM. 2 HD, late 2005 version.
The problem happens every time I put it to sleep, even right after it has been turned on.
I have measured the CPU temp to be as low as 36-40C and it will still turn the fans on high speed when put to sleep.
I have reset the P-RAM and the SMU.
I have installed a fresh version of OS 10.4.9 on second drive, booted from it and it still turn the fans on 1 minute after it goes to sleep.
I have had all the RAM out beside the original RAM. I did an extended Apple Hardware test which passed.
...any ideas ?

After trying all that, it sounds like it's hardware-related--possible logic board--but try this yet.
Do an Open Firmware reset: Hold the CommandOption+OF keys during startup. At the '>' prompt type:
 >reset-nvram
 Return
  >set-defaults
 Return
  >reset-all
 Return
The reason the fans are taking off, is because the OS stops communicating with the logic board.

and sometimes i put it in sleep mode and come home on my lunch break and the fan is running at full speed and the computer has frozen up...what is going on here? is it a virus or has my computer been hijacked? it cant be good for the computer...anyone ever had this problem..?

Your problem has been reported many times, but causes are as varied as individuals.
Can we assume that a hard shutdown allows a normal restart?
Can I assume that you have used Disk Utility from your OS X install disc to repair the hard drive directory? The freezes and hard shutdowns require that the drive be repaired (not permissions) or soon the machine won't boot at all.
If the root issue is software related, in Console (the application) under Logs, there should be loggings around the time of sleep and logs that tell you what process went wild and froze the machine.
Network activity is also a common casue.
    Other info:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1776
If hardware related, such as an external drive, other USB device (Wacom tablet) or USB PCI card, ejecting, disconnecting, removing, or in the case of the Wacom, updating drivers, are all potential remedies.

  • Internet goes stale after computer goes to sleep and then needs to be rebooted to function properly

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • IPod Classic auto ejects from iTunes after computer goes to sleep on Mountain Lion

I posted the following a few days ago in the Mountain Lion as I am suspecting the OS has something to do with it, but got no replies so I thought it might be good to post this here too in case this issue would be familiar to some of you.
I usually have both a 160gb iPod Classic (original) and a 16gb original iPod Touch plugged into my computer and connected to iTunes, so I can listen to tracks from the devices straight through iTunes. This has worked very well for years, but since upgrading to Mountain Lion, every time the computer wakes up after going to sleep when I haven't used it for a little while, iTunes ejects my iPod Classic, and I have to replug it, but it doesn't do it with the iPod Touch. This never used to happen before, and is a tad annoying when it happens recurringly through the day.
I have also noticed that, if the iPod is ejected, it seems to erase the play count for the tracks I was playing prior to the computer going to sleep. This is no major issue, but it seems a bit odd.
I initially thought that this was happening on my work iMac but not at home (both running the latest versions of Mountain Lion and iTunes), but it does in fact happen on both computers. This behaviour only started when I upgraded to ML, and although it could be a coincidence, I think it may have something to do with it.
I am using the latest version of iTunes.
Can anyone help with this please?
    Thanks

    Hi there,
Thank you for your reply, that's much appreciated. In a way it makes me feel slightly better to know that it's nothing to do with my iPod, although it is quite frustrating. Don't Apple QA their products before releasing them anymore? I've had quite a few issues with ML since installing it. I understand you get bugs with new products, but that would be one quite easy to identify I'd think. Oh well, I'll have to suffer this like everybody else until Apple get it sorted.
    Once again, thank you.

  • Firefox stops working after computer goes to sleep 37.0.1

Running Win7 Home Premium and Firefox 37.0.1. Since this upgrade, when any of my three computers goes to sleep, Firefox stops working. Sometimes the process can be exited, but regardless, Firefox cannot be reloaded and the computer must be rebooted. When the computer has gone to sleep, and Firefox has stopped working, other browsers, such as Explorer also say they cannot connect to the internet. The fact that this problem simultaneously appeared on different computers following this upgrade suggests that this is a Firefox problem. The only way I can avoid this is to exit Firefox after every use. In many cases, the only web page visited during a session is google.

This is a known issue, and the programers are looking at it.

  • Can't wake mini after it goes into sleep mode

Hi, My mac mini 2010 model will not wake from sleep mode. The computer also shuts down by itself if left on overnight.
    Any ideas?

Try following the following steps to reset your Mac mini's System Management Controller (SMC), the electronics on your logic board which control your computer's power state (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964):
    Shut down the Mac mini.
Unplug its power cord and wait 15 seconds.
    Reconnect and wait 5 seconds.
    Switch the Mac mini on.
If that does not solve the problem, there are a few possibilities:
    1) I know it's obvious, but have you checked that "Schedule..." in Energy Saver Preferences is not accidentally set to shut down?
    2) What is the power supply to the Mac mini's power adapter like? I have seen a few rare instances where power supply issues can cause the SMC to get confused in these cases. You could try using a known-good power supply and/or swapping to a less loaded power socket. I know it sounds unlikely, but I have seen at least one occasion where this solved strange sleep/wake behaviours of Minis.
    3) Finally, the worst case is that your logic board is faulty.
If you've done all of the above and have no luck, bring your Mac mini and its power adapter to your local Apple Authorised Service Provider or Apple Store for hardware diagnostics.

  • Cant connect to internet after computer goes to sleep mode.

Everytime my computer goes into sleep mode it wont let me connect back to safari. It shows im connected but wont connect. Can anyone help me?

Hi there. I have the same sort of problem with my MacBook. To get the internet working again I have to restart the system. Sometimes the same sort of thing (shows I'm connected but doesn't really connect) happens when I'm in the middle of using the internet. I've posted a topic ("Problem with AirPort?") about this also and I've gotten a few responses already. Maybe one of them can help you out (no luck for me so far though).

  • Fans are running at full speed after hard drive upgrade. Used same brand drive.

My Western Digital 500GB hard drive crashed. The date on it is Aug. 2010. I swapped it out for a Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB. All plugs were identical including the temp sensor cable. My fans now run at full speed. What gives? BTW. This is th 3rd WD hard drive to fail at my office in multiple iMacs. I have a 21.5 iMac i3 3.06ghz. I have tried the SMC reset,.. no luck. Reset the PRAM,.. no luck. Hard drive and computer function perfectly, it just sounds like a loud annoying PC.

After a little more research the only thing I found for 21.5" mid 2010 imac were three part numbers for three sensor cables which are a function of vendor:
    922-9215, Hitachi
    922-9216, Seagate
    922-9622, Western Digital
The strange thing here is these are vendor specific and not model within vendor specific.  So you started with a WD drive and replaced it with different model, but still a WD drive.  So you would think it would require the same sensor cable.
Maybe the drives are different enough for this to matter.  Or maybe you should check the connections one more time.  Be it model of drive or connections, whichever it is, the sensor cable is the source of your problem.

  • HT3964 Fans running at full speed even after SMC reset.

I have reset the SMC twice on my iMac 24" (early 2009) and my fans still run at full speed, but only after I've been away from my computer for a while.  It never happens while I'm using it.  Any suggestions?  My Apple Care plan ran out a few weeks ago and so I can't call in without paying.

Try iStat Pro and see what temps are being seen by the system.
    http://islayer.com/apps/istatpro/
I know this won't fix it but it might allow you to see which sensor might be acting up.
Have you tried a PRAM Reset? Again just fishing.

  • MY FAN IS ALWAYS ON FULL SPEED

Please help out there my MB fan is always on full speed especially when whatching ovies on Batt power which drains my batt quick. and i was not like that before

especially when whatching \[m?\]ovies on Batt power
First, movies are CPU-intensive tasks, which may explain the need for fan speed. That might not be all, though.
The thing to do it run /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor to see which processes are using the most CPU. It's entirely possible that you have some runaway process running that's causing the system to run hot, and therefore need additional cooling.

  • MacBook Pro's fans start running at high speed when the computer is asleep. Normal?

The other night, my MacBook Pro's fans started running at high speed when the computer was asleep. Loud enough to wake me up. And this just kept on going until I finally decided to turn the computer off. Is this normal? Is this anything to worry about?

This is not normal.  See if a SMC reset solves the problem:

  • Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?

Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?
The screen isn't broken because it works after i turn the device off and back on, but after it goes black once, it's only white again.
But it takes the touches although it's only white, because I can answer my phone when I slide my finger on the bottom of the screen, eventhough there in not the button to see.
This is so weird. I have already done everything I can think of that might help. But I cannot think of anything that might be causing it, because nothing has happened to the device.

Let me know if I should start a new discussion instead of opening a new topic here.
My wife's iPhone is the same vintage as mine 3Gs, but has never had the battery problem.  Its affliction instead is that it cannot detect WiFi networks unless it is quite close to the source.  Often, when my iPhone not only detects but shows a maximum cells connection with a network, hers cannot detect the network at all.  In contrast, her iPhone seems to detect ourcellular carrier just as well as mine does.
Is there any help for this affliction?

  • I have my AIR plugged into another monitor and after it goes to sleep sometimes it sounds like the system is running and it will not come back up..  I have to restart it.   What is this..  Please help

I have a macbook air and i have it hooked to another monitor and I love it but lately it has after it goes to sleep for a while it sounds like it is trying to run the drive or fan really hard and when I try to bring it alive it does not come back to life so I have to hard boot it and then restart it.   What is this...

Go into Sys. Pref , and power settings and UNcheck "put hard disks to sleep" on both power tab and battery tab.
When on projector use with your Air and a presentation, dont close the monitor or sleep your Air.
Verify any coincident applications running that can/could conflict with projector / sleep occurrence by running Etrecheck:
