Fans running @ 6k after 10.5.3 update

Does anyone else have this problem? Since installing the 10.5.3 update my fans are constantly running at 6k whether plugged in or running on battery. Does anyone have any suggestions? iStat says it's 73ºC but it doesn't feel hot at all. Strange!!

This is what I worked out...
I was using Fan Control before I upgraded so I uninstalled it by following the instructions here: Fan control then I downloaded an re-installed the app from the same address, and now she's purring again - Woo!

  • Satellite L750-A218 - Fan run faster after BIOS 3.30 update

    Hi,
here is a new issue I am experiencing after the BIOS update.
I feel the internal fans are spinning all the time by placing my hands near the keyboard. Fan speed according to Toshiba software is 50%+ while I am not doing anything. On the other hand, it was at 25% before the update.
Did they update the BIOS to give the laptop more ventilation or something.
This is weird. CPU temp is 45%. I have upgraded from 3.00 to 3.30, for your information. Thanks.
P.S. The fan speed is stuck at 50%+ and wont go lower than that.

Yeah, I figured they updated the fan work.
Though, its really annoying. Why keep the fan at 50% even though the CPU is at 4% and no work is being done. Actually, what I think they did is set the fan speed at 50% minimum. I can feel the vibrations of fans while resting my hands on the rest pad.
This is driving me crazy. That is because I type a lot.
I upgraded the BIOS hoping that I will be able to install HDD Saftey software and that did not work.
Above that, I gained a new problem. The BIOS software did not give me the chance to back the BIOS up.
Totally inefficient, I checked the BIOS updating tutorial and there was this software that offered that.
Though, mine was not like this.
It actually started the flashing automatically. I wonder if someone can feel the fans working like me on other laptops of the same model or family (L750 and L755).

  • MacBook Pro Fan running fast after Mavericks update

Hello All! I have a 2009 MacBook Pro 13 inch and I have noticed that after I updated to Mavericks my fan has been running really fast and my computer getting warmer than normal. It's always on a table so there is nothing blocking the port in the rear. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hey emilyiow,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your MacBook Pro in relation to the fans. Sometimes, this symptom can indicate that the SMC needs to be reset. For more information and instructions on how to do so, check out this resource:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support

  • Fan runs continuously after Update to Leopard

    Hi,
after updating my macbook pro to leopard after a few minutes the fan runs continuously. I think the problem is the bluetooth process, which consumes 56 % of the cpu. The bluetooth firmeware is 2.1.0f17. I have installed the latest updates 10.5.3.
    Can anybody help?
    Thank you.
    Susanne

    Welcome to the Forums!
Assuming you're using Activity Monitor to identify the offending process, you can quit the process from there. Does it return after a reboot?
    Hope this helps...

  • HDX18 fan runs constantly after BIOS update

I updated my BIOS to the latest F.31 version before installing Windows 7 as recommended.  Now my fan runs at the same speed all the time no matter what.  Before this my fan ran very slowly at idle and blew like a hurricane when I was running games or the TV tuner.  It changed with the conditions now is always the same.
I went into the BIOS and there is a setting for "fan always on" that I could change to disabled.  I am comfortable in the BIOS but a little leery of making any changes as I am not an expert here.  Anyone have this issue?  Will disableing the fan always on make it variable again?  I regularly blow out all my vents and the computer is very clean so I don't think it is a dust issue.
    Dave

oh I see.  One option is to supplement with an small external fan (these are cheap) near the laptop's air intake.  I'm not sure if changing the BIOS setting would make it variable again, that's an interesting question. Regardless I would supplement with external fan to be on safe side in my humble opinion.

  • Fans acting up after 2010-01 security update

    Hi there,
My MacPro (2,1) 8-core (16Gb) has it's fans acting up after the 2010-01 security update. This update came together with an update for Java. Being aware of the possibility that problems can rise when updating the two at the same time, I ran the security update first, then a restart, checked permissions, a restart and then the Java update and checked permissions again. However, now with only Safari or just the finder running the fans act up after a while. Even with the simplest tasks like opening a folder or dragging something or just running idle. It's not full blast but fast enough to be annoying.
I've done a SMC reset in conjunction with a 15min detachment of all cables, booted a few times in SafeMode, but no result. I hoped the 2010-02 security update would fix it but again no luck. Any ideas?

I've looked in the Activity Monitor (I hardly use it) and it gives me some strange data. Like Airport-BaseStation is running.
I don't have an Airport Base Station either, and Little Snitch is always asking if I want to allow it to phone home. So, mine must be running, at least sometimes, in the background also.
Sorry, don't have a real clue about this, but here's some other stuff to try.
First, see if this fan revving up happens in a new admin account and try a Safe Boot. Hold shift key down at startup chime. It will take some time to boot; let it go, it's doing some checking and repairing. The reboot into normal bootup will be slower than usual also.
if it were happening to me, I'd throw Applejack at it; must be from Single User, which BTW, is generally, a safer way to clear some caches. After it's installed, start up in Single User (CMD-S) and type in applejack and follow the on screen instructions for caches and pref files. Don't run anything out of order. If that doesn't do it, then you could try it in deep cache cleaning mode by typing in applejack AUTO.
You may not see the benefits until after several restarts, and since caches are made to speed things up, you may see some temporary slowness until these are rebuilt. If you run it in "Deep," you'll probably be asked to reauthorize some applications, which now think they're being opened for the first time.
Even if it doesn't help this time, it's a very useful tool to have on hand.

  • Running Hotter after 10.5.3 update?

I have a MBP 2.5ghz and it's been running hotter (the bottom) after I did the update for 10.5.3. I've restarted the machine thinking that the systems may clear the cache or some other process was making it run hotter. But it's consistently running hotter now than it did when 10.5.2. Anyone experiencing this also on their MBP 2.5ghz?

This is what I worked out...

  • Running slow after downloading a mandatory update

running slow after downloading an update!
I had zero complaints until today when I downloaded an update and restarted my machine.
Now It feels like I'm back in the PC world.
    Any suggestions?

If it is Safari loading web pages slowly, I would suggest http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3230 or http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594, one of these will surely help. If not, as previously suggested, more detail will greatly help.

  • Fan runs constantly after installing replacement battery

I received my replacement batteries on a timely basis, charged them as instructed and get proper running time from them.
My issue is that suddenly the fan runs almost perpetually. I have zapped the PRAM, stared at the console utility looking for a problem, and watched activity monitor. All seem normal.
The CPU now runs at 140-142 degrees all the time. It would spike there occassionaly before but only when I knew I was pushing hard. Even connected to AC hoping that will vent the machine better has not helped.
Is it the replacement battery or just coincidence? Suggestions appreciated.

You might also try a different battery if you have access to one. Unfortunately, many of the replacement batteries being shipped by Apple are defective. They don't fit properly into the battery bay. I suspect that if the quality control is this poor, then it seems likely that other problems will arrise as well. Check carefully that the battery itself is not overheating. Another possibility which also happened to me is that after installing the last upgrade to the operating system, one or more of the third party widgets became problematic, causing the same problem you describe. After removing all third party widgets, the problem stopped. Good Luck

  • Mac Mini fan running loudly after Safari upgrade

Mac Mini 2GHz is around 2 months old. All been fine until yesterday. When running Safari (it seems) and not necessarily heavy usage fan starts runningvery loudly. In the previous 2 months NEVER heard the fan or at least it's been very quiet, so am quite concerned. It appears that this has coincided with updating to the very latest Safari release 3.1.1.
Anyone else having similar problem and/or advice?
    thanks
    D

The new Safari release supposedly has some issues with Flash media files and with Windows Media files -- and will require updates of the helper programs that display those formats.
Does the fan run loudly when you visit sites with such files? Or does it also run loudly if all you visit is sites with no video files on them?

  • Macbook pro cooling fan runs continuously after software update

I updated Mountain Lion last night (Mar 15, 2013). I forgot the version number, but it was 10.8.? I think.
After restarting the computer this morning, the cooling fan suddenly shot up, making crazy noise. It didn't come back, so I had to turn the computer off with physical switch. While the fan was running, battery was draining so fast. I began with 100%, but went to 65% in 45 minutes. Such thing never happened before. I did not run the computer with complicated Apps when it happened. I was using Safari and Logos Bible software. Does it have anything to do with the new software?
It is quiet right now, after restarting. I paid more than $2k for this computer last fall. Didn't have any problems yet. But it happened all of a sudden. Anyone has any idea??

Next time this should happen try a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
If no success, look at Activity Monitor to see if you have a 'runaway process' and terminate it if not required by the OS or perform a restart.

  • Battery discharging and fan running constantly after upgrading to Yosemite

MBP Early 2011. Just got back a month ago from Apple Support for video related issue. Almost EVERYTHING was replaced (logic board, video, ram, battery, cdrom, even my dented case. Thank you Apple!). Has run for a month flawlessly on Mavericks. Upgraded to Yosemite 48 hours ago. Light on magsafe stays green. Battery indicator icon states Battery is not charging (currently at 75% and falling). Power source: Power adapter. While plugged in and operating, battery is discharging and fan constantly running. If I shut down, mag safe light turns yellow and battery will charge to 100%. If left plugged in and running in Yosemite, battery will drain all the way down.
    Have tried:
Rebooting, putting into sleep mode, shutting down completely, unplugging and replugging power supply from wall and MBP while on and off, resetting SMC with Shift Control Option Power keys/buttons.
No third party battery or power apps installed, fresh load of Mavericks from factory when I got it back. This feels like something with the new energy management in Yosemite isn't working as expected to me. Thoughts & suggestions appreciated!

    UPDATE: Resolved!
Disabled all login items but problem persisted on normal boot. Resetting SMC and PRAM had no effect. After booting into Safe Boot, problem did not exist. Looked in console logs and saw this right as problem started to occur:
10/20/14 6:49:07.004 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.gspy.MO3V2Daemon[93967]) Could not find and/or execute program specified by service: 2: No such file or directory: /Library/MO3V2/MO3V2Daemon.app/Contents/MacOS/MO3V2Daemon
This pertains to the Steelseries WoW MMO gaming mouse. Ran the uninstall.command from Applications for this mouse software and rebooted. Fixed.
Light on MagSafe connector is orange, battery shows as charging, fan is not running constantly. I can't begin to understand how this would effect the battery charging functions but, after uninstalling this, the problem was resolved. Hope this will help someone else.

  • Fan speed up after 10.4.3 update

Today, I applied the 10.4.3 combo update to my iMac. After reboot, the fan came on full speed, and has stayed there ever since. I tried an archive and install of 10.4, and applied all updates. I also tried reseting PRAM, as well as the Open Firmware resets. No joy. The fan is still full blast. Any ideas or suggestions? I'm stumped.

    it's all right here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301733
it says in there that the SMUs control fan speeds. I hope that fixes it for you

  • Fans running hard after repair of LCD

had the LCD screen repaired on my iMac (early 2009) last week.
now the fans are running much harder than they have before
I have performed the SMC reset, as per the troubleshooting guide, but it's had no effect.
    please advise
    respectfully,
    Patrick in Dallas

Try an SMC Reset (SMC controls functions like fans.)
    -Shut down the computer.
-Unplug the computer's power cord. (After shutting down, leave the computer unplugged for an hour or more)
-Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    -Release the power button.
    -Attach the computers power cable.
-Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Premiere runs slower after 2014 and OSX updates

Question: Has anyone experienced a decrease in performance after updating to the 2014 versions on their CC software? I recently updated this and my Mac's OS to Mavericks. I would like to narrow down the field in order to discover what is causing this problem.
    System info:
    Footage Info: 2 cameras - Panasonic GH3 and Nikon D7100, 1920x1080 29.97p, h.264 .mov files
Project: Series of 11 videos ranging from 3 - 4 minutes.
    Includes:
Interviews on green screen (possible issue, I address this further down)1 - 3 interviews per video with 2 cameras for each interview. Cameras have separate comps = 2 dynamically linked comps per interview resulting in 2 - 6 comps with keyed footage
Standard broll, intro/outro/lower third screen comps linked with AE
1 audio track, premixed with interview audio and music
Problem: Since updating my version of OSX as well as my CC software I have had a significant decrease in performance when editing in Premiere Pro with dynamically linked AE comps. The performance issue ranges from the program monitor taking minutes to update after adjusting effects or scrubbing through the timeline (or just clicking on a new point to see the single frame previewed) all the way to my computer freezing or even PP restarting itself (never happened to me before). Also, export times have increased exponentially. Prior to these updates I was able to export a 4 minute video with multiple dynamically linked comps in around 30 minutes. After updating it is taking over 4 hours to export a 3 minute video with similar effects.
    Possible causes/items for discussion:
The 2014 update added new effects to Keylight in AE (what I used to key the footage). Also this is the first project I have done using keyed footage through dynamically linked comps. Does the Keylight effect require significantly more power to operate?
I am working with projects that I had started prior to the 2014 update. Normally I would not have updated mid project, but with increased benefits to Keylight as well as adding the ability to edit dynamically linked lower third text directly from PP (huge time saver), I decided it was worth it.
    Extra notes:
I also added another monitor to my system recently. Could this have something to do with it?
After this issue I plan on acquiring the proper transcoding software and updating my workflow to rule those out in the future. I will also consider alternatives to working with dynamically linked comps. However, at this point I am purely interested in feedback regarding similar situations or suggestions as to what I could try to address this issue. Thank you for your input.

I spent more time looking into this and think I may have found a solution to my problem! This has been an extremely frustrating week for me and the performance issue has affected delivery to the client, so I wanted to post what I discovered here in case anyone else is hunting for this answer.
I found another thread that addressed the issue of working with comps in PP (Re: After effects CC on maverick slow render because of PP CC Dynamic Link Footage). They refer to it as power nap in that thread but I think what he meant was "App Nap" which limits resources to certain apps when they are not in use. There is more information here (How to Disable App Nap in OS X Mavericks - TekRevue). Preventing app nap seems to have sped things up for me. I am going to try exporting now and see if that goes any faster.
