Fans Running Fast With Kona Card LHe?

Hi,
I have a Power Mac G5 Quad, and it makes noise with fan kicking on after it goes to the sleep mode? I took all the 3rd hardware off it, memory, drives and etc. The LHe Kona I have installed and when my quad is put on the "sleep" mode the fans kick on?, but when I move my mouse it stops? Anyone of you guy have this problem? Thank you Tim C.

Cool thank for the info, now I know I am not alone, hmmm tried taking out all the hardware added hardware too, made it stop, as I tested each area, drive, memory, Kona card, etc, just going to bite the bullet, dont know what else to do, contacted support, no answers hmmm T.

I have checked the battery and it is OK.
Tried the reset button and no joy.

The red LED indicates power to the logic board, which is good.
Try Resetting the Logic Board
Resetting the logic board can resolve many system problems. Whenever you have a
unit that fails to power up, you should follow this procedure
before replacing any modules.
1 Unplug the computer.
2 Press the Power On button on the front of the unit.
3 Open the side access panel.
4 Remove the battery from the logic board.
5 Wait at least 10 minutes before replacing the battery.
6 Make sure the battery is installed in the correct +/-
direction.
7 Reassemble the computer and test the unit.

This procedure resets the computer’s PRAM. Be sure to
check the computer’s time/date and other system parameter settings

Fans running fast

OK. When I install the 10.5.8 combo updater and restart the Mac it closes down as far as the screen goes blank, but then the fans start running slow at first but after about 2 minuets they are running as fast as possible, should I leave them running? I have left them in the past for up to 2 hours but then I decided to push the button to force quit, just how long should I leave them running? And is this normal?

That is a retail upgrade to a new system; not a gratis update within one.
The ownership & use of a retail 10.5 Leopard DVD installer disc set is required.
A disc from another computer won't work in a different one, so that's out, too.

Sadly, the normal retail sources for buying a new/unused Leopard 10.5 disc
set won't have them; so other options and sources have to be examined or
researched. One possible source may be to call the main Apple phone number
for the sales support (see web page) at 1-800-MY-APPLE and ask for a Mac
OS X 10.5 specialist; and inquire about the purchase of the Leopard 10.5 full
install disc set, which is essentially the retail disc for a complete installation.

The best way to upgrade to Leopard 10.5.8 is to have a separate hard disk drive
(if you have a tower computer) for it, all alone; no old Tiger or other OS X parts.
And if you use iLife, get a later version of that suitable for the hardware in your
computer; as not all older Macs can support the latest iLife. Some may prefer to
be using iLife 06 or 08, if they don't have all the newer stuff. Older ones may be
better with an even older version. Since iTunes is a separate download item, that
may also be too much for some ancient computers. Of course, newer iPads and
other items probably need to get into the iTunes store and interface with the Mac.
Those would require the minimums as indicated by their system requirements list.
If you are on the lookout ahead of time, getting a clean no longer in use Leopard
DVD retail installer disc may be a matter of timing and luck, in your vicinity. A few
weeks ago, a craigslist ad had some Apple OS X software including the 10.5 DVD,
in the box with book; an iLife 08 in box with instructions, Garageband jam-pack, a
white Apple usb keyboard, and iWorks 05 in the box with paperwork; all for $50.
And someone else, a few years ago, gave me an early retail Leopard 10.5 DVD.
So, I could easily upgrade one of my Macs (again) to Leopard 10.5.8 and have no
old Tiger system parts inside the computer at all. - A clean break, as I'd done before.
Be sure your computer has better than minimum hardware requirements to run
Leopard 10.5.8, including more than enough RAM, large capacity hard disk drive
with large cache and good read/write speed; and a good Superdrive optical drive.
If the issue with the 'fans running fast' has been resolved, or is conditional, you
could add whatever new info you have in this thread. And if you are considering
an upgrade to Leopard 10.5.8, issues outside of the actual computer hardware
seem to appear in the Leopard discussion page, if you needed to start a thread.
Sometimes, getting the dust and other debris out of a computer so it can breathe
and get adequate air-flow, can help it run cooler. But sometimes, there are other
possible reasons why, if it is running too warm, for it to be doing that. Do you have
and use a Temperature Monitor software that an be read in the main menu bar?
A temp widget is mostly pointless, since in order for that to work, you have to stop
most everything else & run DashBoard. That can further load the system, to make
it run warmer; if the issue of heat and fans remains an issue to be watchful over.
Hopefully a few of your questions or curiosities are finding answers; at times, a
fair gamble on information can be a google search. If worded adequately.

Fans running fast on mac pro

This quesiton has been brought up many times before, and I've tried the suggestions everyone has offered in resloving the problem of fans running fast on a Mac Pro. In my case they started running fast after Sleep, Restart or after Startup. I have a 2007 Mac Pro and have reset the PRAM and SMC in the past and these, along with updates from Apple, seem to have resovled the problem. Recently, however, I began to have this trouble again and went throught the motions of resetting PRAM and SMC. I even reinstalled my OS Lion to see if that would resolve the issue, but to no avail. So this is why I am writing. In an effort to give someone else a heads up to a new problem I incurred that hasn't been brought up in any discussions on the subject to this point; that I can find, anyway.
About 8 months ago I had one stick of Ram blow on me. I sent it back to OWC and it was replaced no problem. Then I noticed a month ago that all the RAM on my lower riser, except the replacement stick, had blown. Again, all were replaced and this is when the fan issue arose. I tested the RAM on the Upper Riser in the lower slot and they worked. I put the Ram from the Upper Riser on the Lower Riser Board to make sure it worked, and they did. I did this, however, after thinking I had blown the Lower Riser Board and ordered a replacement...glad I did. I now had 8 sticks of Ram in the Upper and Lower Riser all working well, but had a computer that sounded like a 744 just before take off. After numerous attemptst to fix the problem and searching long on the internet I decided to try the New Riser Board I had bought. It workded. That Lower Riser Board, for what ever reason, must be foul somewhere/somehow. I now longer have the problem.
So, I suggest you follow all the advice of those who have written before me because their suggestions worked initially. However, if you've had blown RAM recently, or maybe are about to and this is an indicator you have a Riser Board problem, you just may want to check your Riser's one at a time in both slots to see if the fans run fast while Board is in and the other is not.

I would - in today's world with SQL-injection hitting everything from "mom and pop" to govt and university sites and everyone in-between, to look at how well Vista handles malware.
I feel much more secure with Firefox 3 with the NoScript extension and disabling javascript on most sites.
There are a few new (last week) security vulnerabilities in Safari for Windows still.

XServe fans running fast and loud

Good morning
I have searched the information base and tried a few suggestions without success. Hoping for another solution here.
I have an Intel based XServe (2008) (OS 10.6.8) whose fans are running faster (and therefore louder) than they have previously. This follows on the heels of a power outage (two of them actually) here at school, though the server is behind a UPS. The system identifier light is also blinking in a particular pattern - 4 flashes and a pause repeating.
The server is up and running, teachers are connecting to it just fine, the RAID is intact and online, the drives all look good according to Disk Utility. So, functionally, everything looks OK - the fans are just running faster and louder than before - noticibly louder than the other Intel XServe in the rack. The server is at the top of the enclosed rack with a space below it as it has been for the last 4 years.
This summer I took all the XServes out of the rack, opened them up, and blew the dust out of them (including a moth - truly a bug in the system), so the all the airways are clean and clear.
I have tried the suggestions I could find on this forum:
     restarted a bunch of times
     shut down and disconnect everything (including power) for a period of time
     reset the PMU/SMC or whatever it is called doing the front panel buttons with the blue lights on the lower row
     reset the PMU/SMC or whatever it is called by holding down the power button while disconnected from power
I have installed iStat Pro and the temperatures are averaging around mid- to upper- 30°C and the fans are running around 3000 RPM . The temperatures aren't signifcantly different that the other XServe, but the fans are running about twice the speed.
I had to reformat the RAID earlier this weekend and copy over the data files from backup and reassign permissions, but the server was running quietly after that was all finished. It seems to be post-powerbump that the fans became noisy.
Sorry for the long post, but I tried to include all the pertinent information. I would have tossed in photos and videos if I could have!
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Did a little more searching about setting up LOM on the XServe and I think I have it figured out now.
I assigned a unique (different) IP address to Network 1 in the LOM dialogue box in Configure Server menu of Server Monitor since I only have Ethernet 1 enabled and linked to a switch using a unique (different) IP address for network traffic between the XServe and my clients.
I can now see (via Server Monitor remotely) that I have a dead blower in my fan array which, upon closer inspection, is also evident in the iStatPro display (one fan running at 18 RPM). Hence the blinking system identifier light and the other fans running faster and harder (and noisier).
Oddly enough, I have a replacement fan array in a box of XServe spare parts. I now have a weekend task.

yes you can do it yourself - it's actually a simple upgrade - i use a ssd in my macbook and have the RAM maxed out to 16GB.
as for what brands should you consider, here are some good ones.
Sandisk Extreme - Currently the fastest one out there.
Kingston HyperX - Second fastest - this is what I have in my 13 Inch Late 2011.
Samsung 830 series - Fast and uses less battery power - this is what's installed in the Macbook Retina.
Crucial M4 - Also a fast SSD - I have the 512GB installed in my 15 inch Late 2011.
If you decide to install one of these ssd in your Macbook - let me know if you need a step by step on how to clone your drive.

Satellite C55-A - after BIOS update cooling fan runs faster

I was informed by Toshiba application that new BIOS version is available I confirmed it and BIOS was updated. Now I have problem. Cooling fan runs faster than before and it is very annoying.
Can I find older BIOS version somewhere and roll it back? I don't need it if it doesn't work properly.
Now I have version 1.40. Is there some solution for this new version?

Toshiba EU driver page provides only the latest BIOS version.
Furthermore the BIOS downgrade isnt possible using the win-bases BIOS update.
In order to downgrade the BIOS on Toshiba unit, you will need to use the traditional BIOS update method which requires special BIOS version. This is available only for authorized service provider.
At the other hand there must be an serious reason why the cooling module run faster.
Maybe the cooling method has been improved in new BIOS just to ensure that internal parts would be cooled down properly.
Its just an assumption but I think it makes sense
By the way: after each BIOS update, you should load the BIOS default settings and should save the changes. If you havent done this in the past, do it

Iavd is 98%, computer gets real hot, fans running fast

Hello,
I see from some posts of last year, unresolved, I guess, that iavd (anti-virus?) is
very high for no good reason, meaning it's taking lots of processor (space? function?) and the computer gets hot and the fans run fast.
Mine has been doing that for a long time.
Does Apple know what causes this?
A fix might help lower my electric bill.

Not to mention computer wear and tear. I think it is the nature of the beast though, as all antivirus programs can have a tendency to cause a shorter life expectancy on a hard drive and other parts of the system. I skip the AV altogether on mine, and simply choose to browse carefully and stay away from filesharing apps and the like.

Does SQL Query run faster with/without Conditions....

Hi All, forgive my novice question.
Was just wondering" In general if we run a SQL query on a single table; does my query run faster if there are multiple where conditions? or without. What happens if the conditions increase? My table is a big one with 5 million rows and some bitmap indexes defined on it.

I think it's difficult to give general rule because there are too much dependencies on the fact that the columns are indexed or not, on the way tables and indexes statistics are computed or not, on the possible session or instance parameters that the optimizer may use, on the Oracle version, etc.

MacBook Pro Fan running fast after Mavericks update

Hello All! I have a 2009 MacBook Pro 13 inch and I have noticed that after I updated to Mavericks my fan has been running really fast and my computer getting warmer than normal. It's always on a table so there is nothing blocking the port in the rear. Any ideas on how to fix this?

CPU Fan running fast

Hey Guys!
I've some Problems with my IMAC 27" early 2011.
The CPU fan is running at about 3800 RPM even though, the sensors say, the CPU is pretty cold.
Here the Temps that iStat gives me:
HD: 41° C
CPU: 33° C
GPU: 43° C
MEM: 38° C
Optical: 38° C
CPU Usage: User 0-2 %, System 0%, Nice 0%, Idle: 98-100%
The problem occours some 10-15 minutes after I've switched on the IMAC and it stays, even if I restart the IMAC for at least 2 hours. Once the fan is returning to it's normal RPM (after 2 hours or more, mostly after being in Standby), i can work for several days and it doesn't return, unless the IMAC is switched off and on again. I think, the IMAC slows down, when it has this problem. Especially scrolling in Safari is extremely slow then. Sometimes it even stops!
Things I tried to correct this:
SMC-Reset --> Didn't succeed.
Start in 'Safe Mode' --> Well it's running in save mode right now and sounds like a vacuum-cleaner.
Disconnect all externals --> Nothing
Deactivate Time-Machine --> Nothing
P-Ram-Reset (?) --> Nothing
New User Account --> Nothing
I think the problem first started to be there some days after installing Lion. By the way: My MBP 15" Late 2008 runs great with the same stuff on it.
Anybody got any ideas?

I've got the opposite problem, my AMD CPU is running around 55C and the fan hardly ever exceeds 1200 rpm most of the time its running around 950rpm. I think the 48C to 65C is running on the edge of to hot in my opinion, I like to stay around 35C-40C. Motherboard, video card and hard drive all stay in the 30C range. I tried to speed the fan up with SpeedFan program but it can not interface.
I hope someone can give us a answer, I checked the UEFI and could not find any setting allowing controlling fan speeds on my ENVY 700-200z/AMD A10 cpu.

MacBook Pro fan running constantly with no utilization

Just got my boss's MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) model back from Apple after a GPU related repair (which appears resolved). They replaced logic board amongst other things.
As soon as I turn it on I hear the fan, quietly running. If I close the lid, it runs for about 20 seconds then stops. This is not loud; they are not running full blast (that is a much different sound). But I can hear it in a quiet room. Owner of the laptop was complaining about fan noise before; I assumed he was stressing the CPU but now I can see what he was complaining about.
Activity Monitor (with 'All Processes' selected), sorted by CPU, shows nothing running more than 1-2%, and 'Idle' at the bottom is showing about 99.65%. So there are no runaway processes. The room (ambient temp) is about 66F (not overly hot). The laptop is on a tile counter - no obstacles to airflow. Same issue occurs on battery and wall power. Over a several hour period, I never hear the fan stop.
I did an SMC reset (ctrl-opt-shift-Power) and this seems to have no effect (this seems to be the magic bullet for most of these issues, after tracking down runaway processes).
So my question is - does anyone know what the design is - could it be that the fans are designed to run all the time on this model, but they are (supposed to be) super quiet and not audible at low RPM, and maybe these fans have been become noisy, therefore I'm hearing it? Was this a specific design issue for this model of MacBook pro (with NVidia GPU)?

Update. I downloaded a nice free program called "Macs Fan Control" from MacUpdate. It shows me that I have two fans "Left Side" and "Right Side" and they are both running at the minimum RPM; the window shows Min RPMs as 2160 and 2000 (left/right), and the 'current' is 2161/2005 (changes all the time but very close to the minimum). Max RPM shows 5940/5499 (left/right). "Control" is auto, meaning the program is not trying to control the speed.
I tried setting the minimum below the values above (eg, I tried changing the minimum to 1,500) but it would not let me. I tried setting the minimums above the values shown, and it allowed me. There is obviously a 'safety' feature in the fan program to prevent slowing down the fans to a value below what is considered safe.
I then installed the same program on my MacBook air. I cannot hear any fan on my MacBook air, but - Macs Fan Control shows a single 'Exhaust' fan running at minimum value of 1200. If I press my ear hard against the bottom of the MacBook air, I can just about hear a faint, faint noise.
So my theory now is - the fans are always running on every MacBook (Air, Pro, etc) - the issue is, how fast they run. And, it would appear (from my MacBook Air experience) that the fans are generally quiet.
I then used the program to speed up the left side fan; the noise grew significantly and was unpleasant. At 4,000 RPM it was a deep, throaty sound. I then slowed it back down, and did the same to the right side fan; at 4,000 RPM it was a gentle 'whoosh' sound. SO ... this tells me the left side fan is messed up (bad bearings, etc). I PRESUME the two fans are the same, and should sound 'similar'. Would others agree with my assessment?

Satellite A660 - Fan running fast

Hi,
today I purchased a new A660-1FM i7 laptop. I'm fairly pleased with it so far except the fan noise.
The minimum speed it runs at is 68%, rising to 75 and sometimes 90% at times.
It never goes below 68% even when nothing is is running (sat on desk top only).
Is this normal? My previous Tosh lap top fan just cuts in and out as required.
This new machine is far too noisy as I use in a quiet room most of the time.
I have played with all the power options including the cooling settings but does not make any difference.
Please help as I really don't want to have to talk to PC world (The place I bought it from) as I know they'll be totally un helpful.

I cant agree with you... I have this wonderful notebook in front of me and I can confirm that the fan also stops sometimes as on other notebooks, especially when you use the Eco mode.
My A660 is equipped with Core i7, 6GB RAM and nVidia GT330M graphic card, so a lot of powerful hardware and Im using Windows 7 64bit.
If I play games on it for example, the fan runs on highest level but thats normal and its not annoying because I hear the game sound.
But if I use it for browsing in the Internet, the fan stops or almost runs on very low level. I use the Eco mode and changed the cooling method to battery optimized No problems at all and its really quiet.
By the way: What BIOS version you have? Im using the latest version, 1.80-WIN
