Fans Wont Turn On

The fans on my macbook lately seem to not be turning on at all. My computer gets very hot and most of the time just turns off totally without any warning and it takes some tries to get it back on. I installed smc fan control to try and fix it and even when setting fan rpm very high they still dont turn on at all what can i do?

Try resetting your SMC and PRAM.
Resetting the System Management Controller >>
If that doesn't work, run your hardware tester. You may have a bad fan or sensor.

  • Fan wont turn off while computer is on

The fan on my imac constantly runs, it has only done this for 2 days now, but if using the mac or if its sleeping the fan wont stop

    Reset the SMC:
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Replaced Left Fan now fan wont turn on

I have a macbook pro 15'' Early 2009 (2.66 GHZ). I am running Lion (10.7.5) I recently replaced the left fan in my computer due to it not working well. My computer seems to run fine, however, the left fan will not turn on.  I double checked to make sure the connection was good, and it was. The fan was brand new, and did not seem to be damaged, and I cannot figure out what is wrong with it. I am out of my warranty, and would prefer to avoid taking my computer in to the apple store if possible, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I tried doing the thing to reset the SMC, there wasn't anything to signal that it reset, but I followed the instructions so Im assuming it worked.  didnt change anything.  Um for the logic board that is a possibility, but the old fan was on, it was just gradually running slower and slower until it was pointless to even use it as it would sometimes have trouble starting.  If I push it with my finger it doesn't spin very long, I think it might just need oiling, but it might be easier to just get this new fan working, if possible.  This new fan isn't running at all, or making any attempt to run.  Is there some way to tell if the logic board is working properly?

  • Fan wont turn off???

I installed Fan Control of my mac book pro right now and I didn't like it so I deleted it. I deleted it by right clicking on it in the system preferences window and clicking on remove. And then I did a SMC reset. But when I turned the computer back on, the fan is still running at full speed. How can I fix this?

Before removing Fan Control you should reset the fan speeds to their normal idle, then remove the program. Download Easy Find - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - and use it to search for the remainder of what Fan Control installs besides the preference pane.

  • Fan wont turn off...  mb slooow!

I bought my macbook about 6 months ago and it was super fast... up until about 2 months ago.. not sure what happened. Also around that time the fan started coming on for no reason at full speed. I called support and they had me empty my caches... i immediately noticed a difference.. at least with the fan. the mb is still noticeably slower that when i bought it.
my moms bf updated my memory from 2 - 4gb but i havent really noticed much of a difference.. still slow. and now my fan started coming on for no reason again i emptied my caches again and nothing.
I don't really do any downloading, i just use my computer for email, school, internet etc.. like everyother college kidd.
    any ideas?? im annoyed!!!

Going from 2 GB to 4 GB of RAM is not likely going to make any difference in speed unless you were running very RAM intensive applications which you are not according to what you said.
But to say the fan is running for no reason is probably not correct. The CPU is probably hot. The question is why.
Run Activity Monitor and select "All Processes" in the upper center of its window. Now select the %CPU tab just below that. This should show the amount of CPU usage of all the processes that the computer is using. Most of them should read 0. a very few should read a small number. If anything is reading over 10% continuously this can explain your fan being on. Report back here if and what items are using a lot of CPU and maybe we can get this straigthened out.

Try resetting the SMC, it may take 2-3 attempts. Please post back with the results. If you're not sure how please follow the instructions in Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets

You are under warranty. You can call Applecare and get advice from the tech rep, or you can bring it to an Apple store or authorized Apple service provider.

  • Late 2009 MBP fans turning at 5600 rpm all the time, bluetooth unavailable and wont turn off

    Hello,
I have a late 2009 MBP, about a week ago the fans started turning at around 5600 rpm constantly, they are very noisy. The bluetooth has also stopped working, the icon's drop down menu says that it's not available. In addition, the computer won't turn off, it restarts immediately after shutdown. I have reset the PRAM and SMC but with no luck, this has been annoying me greatly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You

You've already done the two things that I would suggest (resetting the SMC being at the top of the list). Your fans may be failing - I had the same problem with one of my fans and it had to be replaced.
The problem is with your other situations - I would really suggest backing up your data and making a clean install of Lion to see if that rectifies your Bluetooth, shutdown, etc., problems (as the SMC reset didn't). If that fails then it's time to visit the Apple Store and have them run diagnostics. Just curious, though... does Bluetooth show up under your System Profile as being connected via the USB hub under Bluetooth USB Host Controller?
    Call back,

  • I have a imac g3 dv se, snow and after about 10minutes of it booting it makes a popping sound and the turns off, then it wont turn back on for another 5-10 minutes

i have a imac g3 dv se,500mhz, snow and after about 10minutes of it booting it makes a popping sound and the turns off, then it wont turn back on for another 5-10 minutes any suggestions?

Actually sounds like classic symptoms of a failing PAV (power-analog-video) on that model. Historically that's the weak spot in the G3 iMacs.
The lack of active cooling in the G3 iMac puts a lot of heat stress on this board and they eventually fail from overheating. Right now the board is still working as long as it's cool--it only fails when temps inside the computer rise.
About the only way to preserve the computer's life is to mount a 120mm fan directly on the case where the handle is--that's the exhaust port. The fan has to be positioned to PULL air out through that vent. It's an ugly solution to the eye but it has been done around here more than you would think.
Also make certain the bottom of the computer is not blocked. It the computer is sitting on a tablecloth or placemat, or there are loose papers on the desk under the case, it cannot get enough air into the bottom-mounted air intakes. Make/find some blocks to set the iMac a minimum of one inch (2.5CM) from the desk and move anything that can be "inhaled" from under the computer.
Even with such measures, the PAV board will eventually fail and be unrecoverable. It's a good time to start saving for a newer computer.

  • Re: laptop wont turn on

I have a Satellite A215 which just wont turn on. I have the blue light flash on the power cable and on the battery. I have tried taking out the battery and memory.
I have tried to just use the power cord but with no luck please please help got all my pics on laptop and it just wont turn on

Service Center is a good idea, I agree.
At first you may try to determine the cause of malfunction. You say it won't turn on. What do you mean? If no activity can be felt (like noise of the fan, flashing of power-on button or indicator), then, perhaps, smth is really wrong with the mainboard. Did you drop it recently? :-)
Or may be the power-on button stopped working for some reason (like disconnect). In this case you are lucky, I belive they can easily fix it (which is not the case with the mainboard).
If the on-button flashes and the system seems to boot, but you can't see anything - well, something is definitely wrong with the screen. Go to service centre.
Meanwhile, why not extract everything valuable from your hard drive? I believe, It is can be removed easily, and yo can by a USB-adaptor to connect it to any other PC.
    Good luck!

  • Gt60 ond NB wont turn off

    Hello all
my NB gt60 OND wont turn off normally.... after the windows shutdown the screen goes black and the LED light of the keyboard is on with the light on the power button after that i need to force it... at first i thought it was the bios so i flash it to w8_E16F3IMS.70X (the NB came with w8_E16F3IMS.50X) but the problem is the same .... then i suspected it was the windows so i install the factory window but it continue.... so then i format all the disk and still have the problem.....
please anyone has a solution for my problem or i just keep forcing it to shutdown? but i think it is bad for the NB..
    thanks in advance..
ps: sorry for my bad English it is my third language.

So I am back after testing all memory stick individually with MemTest86 v4.3.3 ( Dos version ) . All are fine according to the test.
After successfully installing Win7 x64 in Legacy mode, I was able to shut down the laptop but with a 15 seconds delay with a frozen ''Shutting down'' display in the Win7 background. ( spinning wheel was frozen ).
However, I did try the full sleep mode but wasnt able to get it out. It looks like its behaving just as the Win8 installation ( both EUFI and Lecacy ). Freezing on the Amber light. Its not that I can get out. Its not fully entering the sleep mode. I would presume that in hibernating mode the light would blink slowly showing the OS is powered down but laptop still receiving power. I need to hold the power to shut it down manually.
So we are back to square 1. Imo, the issue is from the motherboard but its not necessarly defective. Might need a BIOS upgrade. One Thing I've noticed ...was that if the windows installation has the keyboard light software installed, the keyboard stays on when the laptop if frozen trying to shutdown ( blackscreen ). As Luigi said , I can Activate and desactivate the GPU Fan and turbo ( like Luigi ) when in that state.
