FAO Adobe: What is Adobe's mobile development strategy?

We've been trying to establish where Adobe is going with mobile development but just can't figure it out. Can anyone clarify please?
For example, when will Dreamweaver be updated to properly support the latest versions of Phonegap/Cordova (i.e. v3.x)? Or is there no commitment to Phonegap? Blackberry, WebOS, Symbian are still shown but not supported. And Windows Phone is supported but not shown.
There seems to be a lack of interest from Adobe for Phonegap/Dreamweaver support.
Alongside our investment in Flash, which is now killed off, we previously invested time in native app development, then started using FlashBuilder because of Adobe's support for mobile app development, but Flashbuilder isn't properly supported now. Then switched to dreamweaver/phonegap because of Adobe's commitment to develop once and distribute to many platforms. But it seems to be a dwindling commitment and Phonegap isn't planned to support Blackberry 10. Creative Cloud seemed like a step towards supporting better development and faster access to updated software but the products have hardly been updated since we adopted it. So, we're just trying to establish if there is a strategy or go back to native app development with eclipse and xcode or look for another solution.
We've recently seen "Adobe Experience Manager" in the press but it seems like a lot of marketing blurb with no real substance in terms of a development strategy and how the Adobe products fit in.
Any clarification of the strategy would be really useful. Anyone got any ideas?

Hi Ronny,
you only have the two possibilities which where shown: Backweb or Attachments. As you say I got more bad experience with Attachments due to the fact that you need BP's or Activities. If you are using SAP Portal my recommendation is Backweb. I installed it under CRM 3.0 and it is really good. Easy to use and reliable. Admins need 30 min for training, Enduser about 5 Minutes and it works - what should I say more

  • What to use in mobile development?

    Hi,
I have a little mobile project that i'll be running in a windows mobile 5, specifically in my HP Ipaq PDA.
My problem is that I don't know how to start.
    1. In creating a Net Beans project, what do I choose between Mobile Application or the CDC Application?
    2. Can I run my app on windows mobile 5?
Please help me with this one :)

In general, HTML5 is the expected/preferred path. You can do numerous animations/transitions in HTML5 with a few lines of CSS and/or JavaScript.
A quick search for HTML 5 transitions turns up lots of candidates.

  • Mobile Development Strategy

Iu2019m confused with some of the surrounding technologies for the development of mobile applications.   For a mobile application I am working on, I have exposed a u201Cbapiu201D as a web service through ICF.  I can consume the web service in my mobile application.  The intended audience for the application would be licensed u201Cprofessionalu201D (named) users so I assume licensing should not be a problem.
The question, what role and why do I concern myself with the following when developing mobile applications?
Mobile Infrastructure, Gateway, SUP (Sybase unwired platform), PI(XI), .Net Connector (NCo) 3.0.

    Hello  Russ,
When you are creating a simple application (no big data transactions and less user), it could be feasible to use the way as you said.
But when there is need for the following, we need such infrastructure to manage applications.
    1. dynamic data distribution
    2. multiple mobile platform support
    3. trusted and reliable data flow.
    4. data conflict detection
    and many more.
You can find more info about the the insfrastructure architecture here

  • Adobe Air vs HTML5 vs Native in Mobile Development

Just now, I read an article "HTML5 vs. Native: What`s a Mobile Developer to Do?" (http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Application-Development/HTML5-vs-Native-Whats-a-Mobile-Developer- to-Do-648997/), and this make me think of Adobe AIR.
For those of you who have used Adobe AIR to develop mobile apps, how do you think about it's performance, features/functionality (API), and stability as compare with HTM5 done with phonegap?
Please share your experience and opinion here. Thanks.

  • What software is used to develop complex programs like 'Adobe InDesign'?

    I want to find out:
What software is used to develop complex programs like 'Adobe InDesign'?
    Thanks.

Just to expand a bit for anyone who is interested:
Virtually all commercial software like InDesign, Photoshop, etc., is written these days in C or C++. That's not so much because C is such a vastly better language than anything else, it's more because in its advent it was vastly better than anything else at the time, and as a result, all software programmers know C by default. And once you have the beginnings of a codebase in C and a pool of software engineers who all know C, there is little reason to rewrite your code in some other language from scratch.
Your question about software pertains more to the IDE that is used to write the code. That will obviously vary from one company to another and could be as simple as a plain text editor coupled with a command-line C compiler, to any number of commercial IDEs that all basically accomplish the same thing. For a long time in the elder days, virtually all code development on the Mac was done with CodeWarrior, but these days practically everyone on the Mac just uses Apple's own Xcode environment. For Windows development, the two real biggies are either Microsoft's Visual Studio (probably 90% of all Windows development is done using this IDE) and to a lesser degree, C++Builder, formerly owned by Borland but now by Embarcadero.
When building the code into an executable package, the underlying compiler that most commercial software developers use is Intel's own compiler. The IDEs above all include their own free compilers; Intel's is a commercial product that is more finely tuned for Intel processors and produces cleaner machine code. On the Mac, Apple just uses GCC, a free open-source compiler that has been developed and used for many years by the Unix and Linux community.

  • Is Flash Builder dead? I just found out that adobe has dropped Flash on mobile devices

I did alot of research on software to develop apps for the mobile market. I liked Flash Builder since it will create apps for all 3 types of mobile devices at once. Downloaded the 30 day trial and have started on the 5 day training course.
Today I saw an article from sitepoint that abobe has dropped development and support for Flash on mobile devices.
The end result of Flash Builder gives you a .swf file in an html wrapper thus we are developing flash when adobe has dropped Flash for mobile. Am I wasting my time? Should I go to another software package?

    Hi,
I installed Adobe Life Cycle designer 7.1 on Studio for NW04S SP9 , I open up the interactive forms ui element .
Then I opened the library pallete on the studio, but I dont find the webdynpro tab.
    What should I do.
    Thanks,
    Harish

    Hi Amol,
I have done this but to no avail.
I picked the prerequisites from help.sap.com
Let me know what I have missed:
<b>You have installed the SAP NetWeaver 4.0 Developer Workplace. You must also have Acrobat Reader 7.0 or a full version of Adobe Acrobat 7.0 if you want to use the InteractiveForm UI element. In addition, the Adobe component of the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio must be installed as this component is not installed in the standard version. However, it is very easy to install it if you want to use interactive PDF forms.</b>
The above is the prerequisite in help.sap.com
    What I have done is
    1. Downloaded Netweaver Developer Studio NW04S SP9 , from service.sap.com
    2. Downloaded Adobe Life Cycle designer 7.1 from service.sap.com
    3. I run the aldsetup.exe
Let me know what else needs to be done

  • [Apps] Name Card Application developed using Adobe AIR and Adobe Flash Lite

An University student currently undergoing his research
project had developed this application in order to help him with
his research project. Please kindly try the application and take
the survey form provided at the bottom of this message.
This application allows you to store name card details. The
application compromise of both PC (Windows / Mac) and a mobile
phone component. Users will be entering the name cards information
using the PC component and he will be sending it to the phone. The
phone component will read the data created by the user and display
    it accordingly.
This application requires Adobe AIR and Adobe Flash Lite to
    work.

  • Baffled! What are adobe acrobat 8.1 standard and adobe reader 8.1.05

My laptop has installed adobe acrobat 8.1 standard. I need to complete an online form which requires a minimum of adobe reader 8.1.05 so I downloaded adobe reader X, assuming this would work, but get a pop-up notice telling me I need to upgrade and still cannot insert text in the form. Can anyone advise me what I need to download? I really am confused what the adobe acrobat does and what the reader does!

The developer very poorly phrased the requirement.
The proper phrasing could be "You need to update your version of Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat to minimum version of 8.1.05."
Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat are 2 distinct products, one only reads the other is a full processing product., but both products interact with the same file format and for the same version number Adobe Acrobat has the same capabilities that Adobe Reader has and then some features that are unique to Acrobat.
With JavaScirpt a developer can identify the product (Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat), the variation (Reader, Standard, Professional, Business Tools) and the major and minor version of the product. And with that information and knowledge of the capabilities of each version, can make a custom message for the end user if a newer version is needed. This script can be executed as the PDF is opened. With some simple coding the developer could have even cusotmized the message for the procuct that tue user had. Had this been done, it would have been very clear as what you had to do. This information and properties have been avilable since the introduction of JavaScript in vesion 3.01.

  • What is Adobe forms?

    Dear All,
    What is Adobe forms?
What is Tcode & other help topics to create the Adobe form?
    Regards,

    Hi,
    PDF-Based Print Forms
    Purpose
PDF-based print forms are part of the Interactive Forms based on Adobe Software solution and are used for mass printing in SAP systems. As well as standard output on printers, and the option of archiving documents, you can also use your application to send a PDF to the Business Communication Services (BCS). Here, you have the option of faxing or e-mailing your documents.
The following gives you an overview of how a PDF-based print form is structured, and also tells you how to create a PDF-based print form in the development environment of the ABAP Workbench. The integrated Adobe LiveCycle Designer software supports you when you do this. This software must be installed on your front end before you can create a layout. To see a print preview of your form, you first need to install Adobe Reader or a complete version of Adobe Acrobat.
This documentation does not discuss how documents are printed and controlled on printers. Instead, it discusses the whole process up to when a file is sent to output management functions, such as the spool system in SAP systems (for more information, see SAP Printing Guide (BC-CCM-PRN)).
Interactive Forms based on Adobe Software
    Purpose
As of SAP NetWeaver ’04 (in SAP Web Application Server), you can use a new solution to create interactive forms and print forms for the optimization of your form-based business processes. This solution uses Portable Document Format (PDF) and software from Adobe Systems Inc. that has been integrated into the SAP environment.
You can create interactive forms in PDF format that allow users to fill out the form on the screen and save their entries in XML format in the form. When the SAP system receives the PDF form, it extracts the data saved in the form, and can process it further.
You can also merge a form template with current system data to generate a PDF document that can then be printed or sent by e-mail.
Interactive Forms based on Adobe software offer you the following business advantages:
    ·        Interactive functions automate the creation of data for SAP systems
    ·        Full integration into the SAP development environments for Java and ABAP
    ·        User-friendly tools reduce the time and costs associated with creating form layouts.
    ·        The usage of the PDF format means that forms retain their appearance regardless of the environment they are used in.
In certain circumstances, you require a license for interactive forms. For more detailed information, read SAP Note 750784 on SAP Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/notes.
There is a good forum named
"SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe" in SDN.

  • Adobe, what do you think about that ?

    - one day I was demoing DPS to 35 people in Paris. The whole day the servers were barely accessible. For the reputation and reliability of DPS that was wonderful.
    - another day I was doing a little DPS demo for Adobe. Again the same problem.
    - another day, the demo was ruined because the servers were so slow.
    - this Monday morning, I open my iPad and I can see my latest Folio in ACV.
In the afternoon I join Adobe reps and partners and other VIPs in London for the launch of CS6. There I go with my iPad and what a surprise when I want to show the Folio to an Adobe representative ?
Despite being signed in, all my folios where archived and all in Download state. I could not access a WiFi and even if I could I think that downloading 500 Mb would be impossible.
Many people where asking me :
—"And are you teaching DPS ?"
    – I said "Yes, I'm even working on it for real projects."
    — "Do you have one to show us ?"
    – "No, because Adobe's software, for a reason that I don't understand, deleted all my folios a few moments ago and I would have to redownload them again. ACV sucks".
People to who I have talked to where Adobe people, chiefs of graphic studios (newspaper, agency,...), potential clients for DPS,...
There was even of Adobe person that told me : "We are receiving a lot of complaints about the technical model of DPS, and you're right, it's terrible".
There are so many problems with this app and with the servers.
DPS's reputation will may be better when one day we just play offline with the folios like a PDF in GoodReader for instance.
    DPS is exploding my bandwidth.

Peter, that is sad. If a publisher decides to pull the issue from the
server, that's like burning down their own library of things.
Apple wanted adobe to stop downloading such large data into the storage
that will be backed up. So issues now go into the cache, that will not be
    uploaded to the Icloud storage.
Because you buy a 64gb iPad, but get only 2Gb of online storage.

  • Open letter to adobe: What future for Fireworks?

Open letter to adobe: What future for Fireworks?
Hello, My name is Fred and I'm a Fireworks user since ever.
I prefer to warn you about my complete addiction to this software.
There's many discussions on this forum and others, on how you deal with Fireworks "improvements". Some say that you are in the process of discontinuing this program, others of a possible resale ... I even read some arguments about switching to Creative Commons license.
All this is the literal translation of a sincere concern!
Can you give us some answers on the future of Fireworks?
I think our community is quite alive and active, so I hope that you'll respond in a clear, fast answer.
    Thank you in advance.
If I made huge mistakes of spelling and grammar, I apologize.
    English is not my language.

From the looks of it, the writing is already on the wall.  I own a Creative Cloud subscription and one of the main benefits touted for the Creative Cloud is regular updates and bug fixes.  And every other app like Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Bridge, Lightroom, the Edge Tools, etc.  have seen multiple nice updates as part of the Creative Cloud subscription which has made me a big fan of Creative Cloud.
    All except for Fireworks.
Not a single update or bug fix has occured for Fireworks in Creative Cloud.  Even for the simplest of things.  I have reported typos in Fireworks that still have not been fixed.  In fact, I think the only app in Creative Cloud that has not been updated is Fireworks.
So like I said, it seems the writing is on the wall.  It's a shame too because even with its lack of care, it works phenomenally well for designing user interfaces.  But now others are starting to catch up and people seem to be switching to alternatives because Fireworks appears to be a dead end.
Without Fireworks, Adobe doesn't have a single UI design app in their portfolio and in particular it seems lots of UI designers are jumping ship now from Adobe to Bohemian Coding and their Sketch app. I'm dumbfounded that Adobe has allowed this to happen.
From what I understand, the Sketch app is created by just two people which makes the inability to keep Fireworks updated all the more baffling.
