FAQ: Can Catalyst publish to older flash player versions?

The short answer is no. Peter Flynn wrote up a detailed explanation in this discussion, which I have included below.
Flash Catalyst projects use Flex 4, which in turn requires Flash Player 10.  Among other things, Catalyst relies on FP 10 features to render text that accurately matches your original imported comps, and to support the "rotate 3D" effects available in the timeline.
For general web deployment, this requirement shouldn't be a major obstacle: Flash Player 10 is on 95%+ of Internet-connected computers in most markets (and probably 75%+ of enterprise desktops).  Of course circumstances vary, so I apologize if you're stuck due to working in an environment where FP 10 isn't available yet.  In these cases, while you'll have to write your final app in a different technology like Flex 3, we hope you'll still find Catalyst to be a valuable rapid-prototyping tool during earlier stages of production.

Adobe dosen't use Appel's Installer Packaging tool to make the Flash Player. So if you want to push flash out, it requires ether coping the flash player application to the computers and then running the installer localy. OR you could re-paackaging flash into an Apple Installer, And then deploy that installer.
Part of what Adobe Flash player install installs is the flash player plug-in. Witch can be found in  /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/Flash\ Player.plugin . plugin are bundles, Part of that bundle is a verion.plist located at /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/Flash\ Player.plugin/Contents/version.plist .
so you could send the terminal command "defaults read /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/Flash\ Player.plugin/Contents/version.plist"
or better yet do "defaults read /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/Flash\ Player.plugin/Contents/version.plist CFBundleVersion"

  • Older Flash Player version system requirements

It is noted that, at http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/systemreqs/, Windows 2000 is not listed as meeting the system requirements for FlashPlayer 10.2.
A general question:  Where can one go to ascertain which is the latest version of an Adobe product that is compatible with one's computer system?
My specific question: What is the latest version of Flash Player for which Windows 2000 Professional, SP-4, with Intel Celeron CPU 1.70 GHz and 768 KB RAM, does meet the system requirements?

Hi, I understand what you are saying. I would think that since FP vs 10.2 Installs on Win2000, that means it is "supported". Supported has a different meaning with Adobe Flash Player than say Windows. Windows means it will continue to provide updates. Flash Player doesn't "update" in the true sense of the word. In other words a Flash Player update means out with the old version and in with the new version. It doesn't "add on" to the existing version. The term "Upgrade" better defines a Flash Player "update".
For example FP vs 9 is not supported. Users with older systems can Install it, but Adobe will not "support" it in providing any more security updates or "upgrades" to that version.
For your situation, if the version you have is working you may want to keep it. But trying the 10.2 shouldn't be a problem since others are using it on Win2000.
I think there is a site that gives the info you want regarding older system requirements for older versions. I have in somewhere in a folder, just need to time to find it:-) Will make myself a note to look for you.
    Thanks,

  • Flash Player version 10.1.53.64 won't play

I can't seem to get Flash Player  version 10,1,53,64 to play video on JayLenosGarage.com or TopGear.com.  It does  not work out Dell notebook or my desktop.  Both the Notebook and desktop run Win XP  Pro SP3. On a third new desktop running Win7, it plays.  All three run Mozilla Firefox  v3.6.8. My system has a Radeon X1900 (Driver Packaging Version    8.593.100-100210a-095952E-ATI)
I click on the  play button in the middle of the video image, it clears the image to  black with a blue circle in motion.  But, it never moves past that.   I  have tried numerous videos on that site, with no luck.
I have even  tried turning off Kapersky.
I have >300G free on my hard drive, and  all drivers are up to date.

Hi, So that didn't help with the KIS 2010 version. Did you see my first paragraph in post #10? Any other program that would perhaps have an add on also?
Also, if this 2010 vs has any add ons, plugins or extenstions in FF, I would disable them for the time being.
When you right click on the KIS icon in your system tray, take a look around to see all of the components. You might try to turn off all of the components. Then enable one, check your site, enable another one, check your site and so on. It could be just one conponent that is conflicting.
Now the other thing to do is Use FF and disable every addon, plugin and extenstion EXCEPT SWF and see what happens when you try the site.
KIS is conflicting with something in FF and if you have a lot of add ons(I include plugins & extensions) then trying one at a time is the only way you will find out which one it is.
    Thanks,

  • Swf published from Flash Catalyst not playing in Flash Player

    Hi All,
I have 2 issues which I'm not sure may be related or not.
    - I've created a project in FC but when I publish it to .swf it does not open in Flash Player. It plays in Chrome but Flash Player 10 gives a blank screen.
    - I have FC 5.5 and I want to make the project scale according to the browser size. How can I do this? I have checked the Resize option but when it open in Chrome it just cuts out all that is outside the browser screen area.
    Thanks.
    Tej

I can not recall the minimum Flash Player that is required for Flash Catalyst. I suspect that your version of Flash Player is too low. Chrome auto-updates to the latest version, so that is why it works in Chrome.
Also, make sure you understand the differences between resizing and scaling. I wrote a blog post on this here: http://chrisgriffith.wordpress.com/2011/06/22/understanding-resizing-and-scaling-in-flash- catalyst/

  • Where can I get the lastest Adobe Flash Player (version 10) for my Dual 1.8GHz PowerPC G5?

Can someone tell me how to get the lastest Adobe Flash Player (version 10) for an Apple PowerPC G5 computer with OS 10.5.8?

You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version, 10.2.152.25, 10.3.x beta, or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.0.1.152 is for Lion.
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. The first one on the list, Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, contributor Texas Mac Man suggests the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the latest version:)
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

  • Where can I find tech specs for each flash player version?

Hi, I'm looking for information on each flash player version
(at least 9 and 10) and the items that they support. I'm having
issues with an application that is being published to Flash Player
9, but when I try to use it with Flash Player 9 I see problems.
When running with Flash Player 10, it's no problem.
I need this information so I can fix my app so it will work
as expected with all versions of flash player we need to support.
I'd really appreciate the help, if I don't get this worked out I
could see losing my job. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Try the offline installer from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#Ins tall_in_a_firewall_proxy_server_environment

  • Can anyone help with a Flash Player problem on the Weight Watchers site?

I'm having problems with the Weight Watchers web site.  I've tried loading it with IE9, IE8, Chrome and Firefox.  There's a specific area of the site (Pro Points Calculator) which continually flashes.  I can't stop it and I can't access the icons underneath it.  Also the Plan Manager, which contains several other tools, will not load.  I've contacted WW who say their site set up "is not unique but it is rare which is why other websites will work while ours may seem not to.  Please contact your web browser trouble shooting team".  I've loaded the latest version of Flash Player (11), tried compatability view, cleared the cache, enabled cookies etc. all to no avail.  I've even spent almost an hour on the phone with the Techguys who say it is a compatability problem between the web browsers and flashplayer.  I'm stuck!!  Not a techhie and don't know where to turn to for help.  Anyone out there offer any ideas?  (PS - am a newbie to these forums too).  Cheers.  Happy2golf

Do I assume correctly that the web site / page that is troubling you is not accessible to the public?  In that case all we can do is guess.
What is your installed Flash Player version?  See http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html#main_Find_the_Flash_ Player_version_installed_on_your_machine
What is your display adapter, device driver version & date?  See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/945765

  • How can I get 11.7 flash player to install on my windows 7, 64 bit, fox fire system?

I have uninstallled and deleted files as I read in the FAQ section and flash player still won't work.  The games says that flash player must be installed.  I have a blank box when I check in the "do you have flash player?" adobe page.

Just wanted to pop in and say, good job galhe! There is a wealth of information in this forum. One of the easiest ways is to use the search forums. Nice to see. By the way, that is the first thing to check, if it is not there, FP will not work, then it
is back to square one. Don't forget Java, youtube and other sites want the latest Java( which is JRE 6 update 18 as of yesterday) just like they ask for the latest Flash Player version. Just a FYI.

  • Please help! We got a used Mac Mini and we don't have the former owner's password, so we can't install anything like flash player.  Does anyone know how to get around this?

Please help! We got a used Mac Mini and we don't have the former owner's password, so we can't install anything like flash player.  Does anyone know how to get around this? I don't know how to wipe the hard drive, and the support online doesn't seem to work.

    As posted previously:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
If installing Leopard the process is similar in some respects.  If you wish to begin anew then after selecting the target disk click on the Options button and select the Erase and Install option then click on the OK button.  To install over an existing system do the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

Because eight years ago, when Apple developed it, Steve Jobs was adamant that iOS NEVER EVER EVER be compatible with Flash. That... will never change.
Apple says to use "SkyFire" as your browser if you must view Flash content (which they do not recommend you do with an iPad). It's free in the App Store.
