FAQ sticky?
I think I've asked for this before, but it would be REALLY nice if we could have FAQ sticky thread for known solutions to problems and/or known list of hardware that is working with Logic Pro 9 (or whatever version of interest).
For my specific needs a nice column listing of hardware and combinations that is known to work, not work, or partially work. Something like:
Mac Model | OSX Version | Audio Interfaces | Surface Controllers | Video ...
possibly even include Email or link to how to make it all work reliably. A list that folks could quickly look thru and identify known issues, work arounds (link to a thread or other web site). z
Just about every other forum on the net includes "sticky FAQ", why not Apple?

Well, we (users) are in fact compiling that.

I occasionally bump it to give it new attention, but in the end it is up to Bee Jay to 'hand in' a list with the admins, who then have to put it up as a sticky. Bee Jay is one of the few regulars here with a high enough status to request this.
Just about every other forum on the net includes "sticky FAQ", why not Apple?
The mods here are not Logic specialists. Other Apple forums do have stickies. But it is completely a user iniative here.
You could bump the thread by putting your request in it.

"FAQ" sticky post in General Device Section
Ok . . . I got another "gooffy idea"
I've noticed a very clear pattern (trend) of certain questions getting posted on an almost daily basis by incoming new people. It seems not a day goes by when the proverbial . . . "How do I get images from my phone to my computer or visa versa?" . . . "How do I activate a new phone or switch from one phone to another?" . . . "How do I appeal a decision that I think is unfair?", etc.
There's clearly a redundancy of the same questions piling up. Personally, I think people should really just learn to scroll down some of the forum questions and usually they'd see the answer to a lot of these just several days ago or even hours ago in some cases. Also, the use of the search box feature could find answers to those issues, as those are some of the tools I regularly use but I guess not everybody is into that.
Anyway, it might be a good idea to have some of these very general and common questions already addressed as a permanent "sticky" post at the top of the General Device section where most of them seem to initially appear. It would really help a lot of new people get those "most asked" questions answered right up front. As usual, not everybody will read it but a good number might and thus avoid the redundancy of the same general questions being asked and answered on a daily basis.
I realize we have a FAQ section but I'm proposing one specific to cell phones at the top of the General Device section.
Ok . . . I'm ready to hear why this won't work "because" . . .

What I was suggesting was fielding some of the dozen or so top regular questions that are most often asked by newbees directly in the General Device section where pretty much all of them go. I know they "should" go to where you pointed, but honestly . . . after seeing what is there (and I mean this as no slam to Moderator Jay who oversee's that) . . . there really isn't a whole lot of the usual questions and answers listed there.
So I guess adding more questions and maybe moving that whole section to the top of the General Device section (where all the newbees seem to want to go) would be the best spot for that section. As they say in real estate "location, location, location". Yeah, there's a section but it looks like no one really goes there and it's a tad thin when they do .
I really hope I haven't offended anyone or overstepped anything. Maybe it was a bad idea . . . I can pull this idea if it's best to do so.

Cat... What about a sticky thread upda
Been away for a bit and even after my extended absence I can still see some of the same Q's coming up.
Specifically microphone Q's, can you not tag a little line or two onto a thread somewhere explaining that the mic needs to be made the acti've recording device to work? That and renaming the mic may be required to make it work in Vista in some instances?
This question is reasonable, comes up fairly regularly and has a simple answer, surely that makes it a prime candidate for an FAQ/Sticky thread of some kind.
Also how about updating the "Response to forum questions and latest updates" thread, e.g. is the 4Gb RAM/BSOD issue fixed or not now? I'm sure I saw you say as much a while back yet the sticky hasn't been corrected to say as much, plus this would probably be an ideal thread to tag that mic solution on to.Message Edited by Giftmacher on 07-25-2007:57 AMOh and where are my manners!

One inch high Lenovo Toolbox icon needs to be hidden or shrunk.
An update to Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox downloaded last night. I like the Lenovo automatic updates but the new program is stealing lots of valuable space from my taskbar. I keep the taskbar at the side of my screen and the toolbox icon and all the blank spaces it creates takes as much room as all of my other quick launches combined. I don’t need to see it but I do want it running. It is not manageable using properties so I can’t hide it. The picture below shows the icon occupying the entire space between “Search Desktop” and the battery monitor. (If the picture doesn't paste, its greater than one inch high on a 7.5" high screen.

i'm trying to update the maemo it says in app manager but it keeps on saying "not enough memory in target location" anyone know a fix because i do have enough memory i even moved everything from my phone to memory card still the same thing.

here's my other two issues
I send pictures from my N900 to my computer and when I try to move it from landscape to portrait it says "Windows Photo Viewer can't save the changes to this picture because there's a problem with the pictures file properties" Does anyone know what's wrong I am running Windows7 and Vista and problems arose when I tried to change the file and save the changes.
Also is anyone else having an issue with the dial up from your laptop to your phone it says I have a modem set up but it keeps on giving me the failed to connect error. I've uninstalled the bluetooth on PC Suite and my computer and re set it back up my firmware is up to date etc.
Anyone have any help for me.

There are some bugs in Application Manager which causes the device not to properly delete (free) temporary files left by application installations. Booting the device should clear those files.

Q: It says I don't have enough memory, what do I do?
The main system partition (rootfs) of the N900 is very small due to hardware reasons. Installing applications from Extras-devel and Extras-testing can quickly fill it up. Some options to try are:
Shutdown and then start your N900. This will clear some caches.
Uninstall programs you installed from Extras-devel
Disable and delete the Extras-devel repository in App Manager
Uninstall programs you installed from Extras-testing.
Check the available space on rootfs after each step in X terminal.

There is an alternative: you can use the Nokia updater to "flash" your N900 from the computer. This will remove all your installed apps and should only be considered as a last resort. -

After when through the forum , i have some query about getting the OCA.
Here is my situation, my job function is more related on Oracle 9i (some DBA jobs,select SQL statements) jobs. Although i'm very new in Oracle, but i'm very interested to master the oracle skill. So i would decided to take OCA.
Question :
1. Which one is more suitable for me : Oracle9i Database Administrator or Oracle Certification Program?
From the flow to getting OCA , it is only pass min 2 exam that will do ? ex : 1z0-047 & 1z0-031?
2. It is recommend to attend the course or self study will do?
3. If i want to attend the course ,what is the fees ?

From the flow to getting OCA , it is only pass min 2 exam that will do ? ex : 1z0-047 & 1z0-031? Only you can answer that. If you are doing DBA work then the Database Admin OCA is a more appropriate target. If you are doing PL/SQL already then the programmer may be a good target.
The good news is for either direction you have to take one of the following examinations: 1z0-007 , 1z0-047 or 1z0-051. (1z0-001 is retired).
Of these my personal belief is 1z0-047 may be harder to study for (you cannot take online and training material may be harder to come by).
2. It is recommend to attend the course or self study will do?I expect Oracle will recommend you receive training from an authorized trainer. However most budgets have limitations. Instructor lead training is useful at some point, in fact often useful at any point, but you may need to choose the expensive instructor-led course(s) with care so they are most useful to you.
3. If i want to attend the course ,what is the fees ?
If you start from the Oracle Certication Program - View all certifications Page you can drill down the links from your chosen certification and drill down to the exams, course schedule and fees.

Training study and practice are more important than certification in my opinion.

Mark - wondering if you might be able to create a FAQ sticky uptop.

- You can't at this time.

I know there are a lot of questions you probably see all day long -- but I think it would be useful to have something like a general FAQ at this time, since so many people are asking the exact same questions and it is creating huge forum clutter now.Hey Paul -- I didn't intend any of what I wrote to

That is pretty standard forum fare.
At a minimum at least having an FAQ would eliminate
most of the ground clutter we have going here right
now. How many more MMS threads do we need per day? Of
course, that also points to readers doing no searches
at all, and just posting.
I agree with you, however the forum feedback is teh beast place for these kinds of thing. The iPhone forum is just for support. Not requests. If you have a group of suggested requests, I can let a moderator (mark if you like) to check it out for you. Otherwise he can be informed of it in the feedback forum.
Your post is merely in the wrong location. I am just helping your suggestion get the proper attention. Its a great start so far.
