Fast download speed but very slow web browsing

Hi all,
Ive had BT fibre optic installed as i could never watch netflix and browse on the internet at the same time on regular broadband. So when i run a speed test its showing 78mbs download with abouth 19mbs upload. However every page a go on is taking about 30seconds to open even google.
Any ideas?
Thanks simon

hi
can you run the speed test again and post the screen shots. please run using ethernet cable.
http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/  after the first test run further diagnostics by entering phone number in top box.
also run this https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html
i had similar problems when first installed due to contractor refusing to move my hub upstairs so i had to run on wifi.
even though at the time i was getting 30-40mbps it seemed slower than my previous 6mbps standard broadband.

  • Fast internet connection but very slow browsing

    Hi,
For some time now we have been struggling with very slow browsing speeds. Sometimes the web page will not even load. ADSL speed checks show a good up and down speed and shown below and everything appears to run well if we simply download a file.
Do any of the numbers below indicate any problems?
We have various pc's both hard wired and connected wirelessly and the problems are the same on all. The laptop works fine on my office connection.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Download speeds are very slow but speed test is fi...

Hi, I did a speed test which returned a result of 36mb down and 8mb up so didn't really expect a slow download. I started a download on the iplayer which normally downloads at 28-30mb per second but it didn't get above 4mb which is not good.
    Anyone experiencing slow download speeds?

Speeds have gone back up to 21mb on the iplayer. Much better but still slower than usual.
When you get used to the fast speeds of Infinity, anything slower is immediately frustrating. Like having to go back to using my Pentium 75Mhz with windows 95.......horror

  • Very slow web browsing

For the last few weeks, the computer has been very slow to access web addresses via Safari. My old Powerbook G3, with Mozilla, works well so I don't think it is Comcast (cable provider). I am using airport for both. Cany anyone suggest how to diagnose the problem and fix it?

I'm somewhat skeptical of a network environment that involves a client installation; that would be my initial target of investigation here, particularly given previous problems reported here with this particular client on this system.
Do investigate the data link speeds and feeds first and not a particular browser, save as there are add-ins or plug-ins or such involved. This can involve ping testing from the shell, or otherwise measuring the bandwidth available through various protocols. (This will help determine if this is a generic issue, or if this is something specific to Safari or to whatever has been done with the network configuration here. Also try some file transfers (downloads) or such, and compare the differences among the systems. For ping, launch Terminal.app and issue the shell command
    ping -c 10 www.google.com
to send ten pings to Google. Each one will tell you how fast the round-trip is. The speed reported will vary by your link speed, but I'd tend to expect less than 100 ms round-trip.
As for Safari, do try the Reset Safari option available in the Safari menu. That'll clean out most of the pieces, though not any plug-ins.
[Here are some instructions for uninstalling the client|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1840414] -- I don't have Tiger around and I don't use clients for Internet access, so I don't know how current that set of instructions might be.
And failing that, (and as mentioned earlier) get your data off this box (ensure you have a backup) and reload it; verify the system and (given all that's happened here) I'd reload the box. That's a last resort, but given this stuff doesn't appear to be playing well together that may well be warranted; there's clearly something broken here.
As for the discussion, this is the Mac OS X Server forum; this appears to be the Mac OS X client software and involving an add-on network client, and not the Server software variant.

    Ok,

I got him to run a Quiet Line test and you can hear a few clicks so I'm unsure of the downstream rate is correct.
I suspect its a problem on his PC but any suggestions I would be grateful

hi there is nothing wrong with his downstream
however if the clicks on the line can still be heard when checking at the test socket then that needs to be fixed first by calling BT Faults on 151 but do not mention broadband in the call

  • My macbook internet download speed is extremely slow. I have tried other computers both windows and mac on the same line and speeds are normal. What is the problem?

My macbook internet download speed is extremely slow. I have tried 2 other computers, another mac and windows and the download speed is over 10mb but with this macbook pro it is less than 1mb. What is causing this and how to fix?

To find out how much space you have & what is left, open up Disk Utility/Machintosh HD/First Aid.  The info will be at the bottom of the window.
Sluggish Finder - Bunch of icons on your desktop?  An overcrowded desktop slows down your Mac.
Get rid of needless Finder calculations - Open a window in Finder/View/Show View Options:  ensure "Calculate All Sizes" option is unchecked.
Internet related - It's likely that your broadband connection is the bottleneck.  You can check your speed on http://www.speedtest.net to see how fast your connection is.  If your web browser specifically performs slowly, quit and relaunch it.
If browser remains sluggish, empty its cache.
    Safari/Empty Cache
Firefox/Preferences - select the Network tab of the Advanced preferences and click the "Clear Now" button in the "Offline Storage" area.
Application related - Launch "Activity Monitor" - Applications/Utilities - click the CPU heading and see what float to the top.  If an application takes up a large chunk of CPU and won't let it go, it could be dragging down your Mac's performance.  Quit it by clicking the Quit Process button at the top of the Activity Monitor window.
Too little ram - max out your ram.

    Hi,
We've just migrated to Oracle 11g and we noticed that some of our view are very slow (it takes seconds in 10g and takes 30 minutes in 11g), and the tables are using the local table.
Do any of you face the same issue?
    This is our query:
    SELECT
    A.wellbore
    ,a.depth center
    ,d.MD maxbc
    ,d.XDELT xbc
    ,d.YDELT ybc
    ,e.MD minac
    ,e.XDELT xac
    ,e.YDELT yac
    from
    table_A d,table_A e, table_B a
    where a.wellbore = d.WELLBORE (+)
    and a.wellbore = e.WELLBORE(+)
    and d.MD = (select max(MD) from table_A b where b.MD < a.depth and
    d.wellBORE = b.wellBORE)
    and e.md = (select min(md) from table_A c where c.MD > a.depth and
    e.wellBORE = c.wellBORE);

Thanks I will move to the correct one..
    Rafi,
Build the Indexes and it is still slow. I am querying from a view from another database, which is in 10g instances.

I'm on the East Coast, USA.  Here are my stats.  I think they're more like what you are looking for.
    1.  Do you have any internet security or firewall app on there???
    2.  Have you gone to your Network Preferences, and clicked on "Assist Me?"  It could be a setting is messed up.
    3.  How much RAM is in your MBP?
    4.  If you are near an Apple Store, I would take it in and have them troubleshoot it for you.

  • Help! Play store download speeds are extremely slow

Hey guys, I just got my galaxy s4 a couple of days ago and I am just encountering a new problem. When I try to download an app from the play store it takes FOREVER to download it, I'm talking 10kb/s. Does anyone know of this problem and a solution for it? Thanks a ton!

        Good morning tony12345,
Let's speed things up for you! Your Galaxy S4 is capable of much faster downloading speeds. Ensure that LTE/CDMA is selected http://vz.to/18J32hS and make sure to disable WiFi. Also confirm your coverage signal http://bit.ly/qQR9lM as low speeds are normal for areas with extended coverage.

  • Fast download but (very) slow upload speed

I know that typically upload speeds are slower than download from most ISP in the US, but I have been doing tests the past few weeks on 3 different Mac's (and iPhone/iPad) and while my download speed is good (between 20 and 30 mbps, my upload speed never really gets past 1mpbs (.95 is about average).
Are there any settings on my Airport Express settings that I can change or look at?  I'm running the latest Lion on two  pretty new machines and Snow Leopard on an older iMac that we have, all with very simiar results.

One area to try is to change the default (Automatic) setting for the Ethernet WAN Port in the AirPort Utility.
I would suggest trying 1000 Mbps/Full Duplex, and then, 100 Mbps/Full Duplex to see which gives you better results.
