Fast draft for Mac OS X 10.9.4

Hello there,
I am trying to set my new HP Envy 4500 printer to default in "fast draft" (or equivalent) mode to save on ink, on my Mac.
I have downloaded the driver and software, and have been unable to locate printer preferences option to make the change.
Can anybody help?
Thanks in advance

Hi @sreeds
If you can not find the fast draft option, you may be using the Apple AirPrint driver rather than the HP printer driver.
Please complete the following steps and let me know if you have the fast draft option.
Let's reset the printing system, repair disk permissions, and re-add the printer using the right driver.
Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and add the printer back.
When you add the printer, please ensure you are using the HP driver, not the AirPrint driver.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can select the printer driver
I look forward to hearing from you.
Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.

  • Drafts for .Mac account shows false count

In my Mail app (ver. 2.0.8), the Drafts folder for .Mac accout keeps showing false count even though there is no draft in the folder. The counter disappears when I open the folder, but comes back after sending a new email. The number on the counter seems to keep increasing. Any idea how to fix this problem?

Duh! I checked the preferences, and sure enough "store draft messages on the server" was checked. Allan, thanks for your help!

The above is what the bar says. It's been a while and wondered, maybe Apple changed the format for forums. Then got this nice big blank canvas to air my concerns. Went to school for Computer Science, BSEE, even worked at Analog Devices in Newton Massachusetts, where they make something for apple.
The bottom line is fast CPU = more FPU = more headroom and still can't figure out why the more cores= the slower it gets unless it's to get us in to a 6 core then come out with faster cores down the road or a newer Mac that uses the GPU. Also. Few. I'm the guy who said a few years ago Mac has an FCP that looks like iMovie on Steroids. Having said that I called the campus one day to ask them something and while I used to work for Apple, I think she thought I still did as she asked me, "HOW ARE THE 32 CORES/1DYE COMING ALONG? Not wanting to embarrass her I said fine, fine and then hung up.  Makes the most sense as I never quite got the 2,6,12 cores when for years everything from memory to CPU's have been, in sets of 2 to the 2nd power.  2,4,8,16,32,64,120,256,512, 1024, 2048,4196,8192, 72,768.  Wow. W-O-W and will be using whatever I get with Apollo Quad.
Peace to all and hope someone can point us in THE RIGHT DIRECTION.  THANK YOU

If you are interested in the actual design data for the Xeon processor, go to the Intel site and the actual CPU part numbers are:

    Xeon 6 core - E5.1650v2
    Xeon 8 core - E5.1680v2
    Xeon 12 core - E5.2697v2
I read that the CPU is easy to swap out but am sure something goes wrong at a certain point - even if solderedon they make material to absorb the solder, making your work area VERY clean.
My Question now is this, get an 8 core, then replace with 2 3.7 QUAD CHIPS, what would happen?
I also noticed that the 8 core Mac Pro is 3.0 when in fact they do have a 3.4 8 core chip, so 2 =16? Or if correct, wouldn't you be able to replace a QUAD CHIP WITH THAT?  I;M SURE THEY ARE UO TO SOMETHING AS 1) WE HAVE SEEN NO AUDIO FPU OR PERHAPS I SHOULD CHECK OUT PC MAKERS WINDOWS machines for Sisoft Sandra "B-E-N-C-H-M-A-R-K-S" -
SOMETHINGS UP AND AM SURE WE'LL ALL BE PLEASED, AS the mac pro      was announced Last year, barely made the December mark, then pushed to January, then February and now April.
Would rather wait and have it done correct than released to early only to have it benchmarked in audio and found to be slower in a few areas- - - the logical part of my brain is wondering what else I would have to swap out as I am sure it would run, and fine for a while, then, poof....
PEACE===AM SURE APPLE WILL BLOW US AWAY - they have to figure out how to increase the power for 150 watts or make the GPU work which in regard to FPU, I thought was NVIDIA?

  • 7200 rpm hard drive for Mac Book..use up battery faster?

Would a 7200rpm hard drive use up the battery faster in a Mac Book. There wouldn't be any problems with heat or anything either, would there?
    thanks!!

The power requirements are virtually the same for their 5400rpm counterparts (100GB Seagate Momentus 5400rpm to 7200rpm for example) so on that front I wouldn't be concerned.
What I would consider is that 7200rpm drives do in fact get hotter than their 5400rpm drive counterparts not to mention that can be much noisier. While I wouldn't expect the difference to be serious it is worth considering.

  • My mac says connect to a faster usb for better performance

every time i connect my ipod the mac says:
the ipod is connected to a low-speed USB 1.1 port. for better performance, you should connect it to a high-speed USB 2.0 port if one is available on your computer
    whats that about

It means exactly what it says.
This message will pop up when you connect a device (the iPod) that works with USB 2.0, to USB 1.1 port.
USB 1.1 is 12 megabits per second.
USB 2.0 is 460 megabits per second (60 ttimes faster).
For better perfomrance, use a usb 2.0 port if your computer has one.
Unfortunately, your iBook G3 does not have USB 2.0.

  • Yosemite/Office Jet J3600 fast draft

    Hello,
I recently upgraded to a new mac with Yosemite. I successfully installed my old printer, an HP OfficeJet J3600. However I do not have an option for fast draft/b/w printing.
The Presets pull down has Default Settings, Last Used Settings, Save Current as Preset, and Show Presets. The pull down menu under Orientation has Layout, Color Matching, Paper Handling, Paper Feed and Cover Page.
I believe the menu option that I'm looking for is Print Quality. Does this no longer exist? I hate to waste ink, and I especially don't want to waste color ink when i just need a draft.
    Thank you very much.
    Robyn

    Hi @robynw414 ,
Thank you for joining us on the HP Forums today, hope you enjoy your time with us!
I understand you are trying to perform the fast draft option and it is not there.
I believe you are performing the correct steps to get to the the fast draft preset option. Just to make sure you are all up to date with the drivers please follow the steps below.
    1. Do all Apple updates.
    2. Reboot your computer.
    3. Remove your printer from "Printers and Scanners" and then Re-add it after.
Send screenshots of what you are doing to get to the presets menu so I can see. Look forward to hearing back from you.

  • How do i add multiple lines in a cell (like a list) in Excel for MAC?

I'm trying to add multiple lines (in the form of a list) in a individual cell in Excel for MAC.  I used ALT Enter on my PC but that doesn't work on the iMac.  Does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks!

It's been a while but I think you hold SHIFT while typing a page break (RETURN) to make a new line without shifting to another cell.
However, as Excel isn't an Apple product, I am sure you will get a faster and more current answer by using Microsoft's Office:Mac forums here:

    They are very good.

  • Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac

After talking with a bunch of salesmen (considering getting a DvD writer), I took the advice of someone in the Apple Store and bought a Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac to copy my laserdiscs. It was $100 before tax, and didn't do stuff I don't plan on doing anyway. I did spend another $25 to get an S-video cable.
I installed the software and connected it up to my LD. I started capturing the movie, and selected S-Video (although in the small window they showed, I didn't see any difference between that and video out. I selected a max time from a limited selection, and let it record.
After a while, I went downstairs and saw that the audio and video were not synchronized at all. I let it continue.
After a while I came down again, and the movie was finished, so I stopped it. I found the MP4 - it was in the iTunes movie directory, and played it in iTunes. I fast-forwarded it to near the end, the voice and video were way off-set.
I haven't tried burning this yet.
Quicktime player doesn't think this is a valid movie file. I selected "open with" and "other" and the recommended applications had iMovie greyed out.
Why in the world would the audio and video record at different speeds?
Do I have to buy software to edit the movie down to the correct size?
    My Mac has:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version: 1.21f4
I noticed the Pinacle Video Capture program was still running, so I tried to quit it, and got a window asking for my administrator ID and passsword to allow Pinnacle Video Capture to make changes. Why?

The audio drifted out of sync because the Dazzle doesn't support locked audio. For short videos (say, under 10 minutes) this won't be very noticeable but when you capture longer videos it becomes progressively worse over time.
What do you want to do with your Laserdisk copies? Watch them on your iPod? Edit and/or burn to DVD?
A device like the Canopus ADVC-110 will do the video/audio conversion properly, keeping the audio and video in sync regardless of the length of your video. It converts to DV, not to MP4, and you would use it with iMovie or Final Cut (not iTunes). However you can export your video from iMovie or Final Cut to iPod/AppleTV formats.
The Dazzle device will not work directly with iMovie or Final Cut.
ps. If all you really want to do is transfer your Laserdisc videos to DVDs, it will be a whole lot faster & simpler to get a DVD player/recorder that has analog inputs and record directly to DVDs. There are many brands & models to choose from and many good ones are as inexpensive as the $100 you spent on the Pinnacle converter.

  • So when I installed the most recent updates for microsoft office 2011 for mac, my ical info disappeared.  Still have the info on my Office calendar but it's no longer on ical.  It's also been removed from my phone.  How can I get outlook to sync with ical

When I installed the recent updates for Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac, my iCal calendar was wiped out, as was the calendar on my iPhone.  I'd rather use iCal than Office and was attempting to phase Office out altogether.  Now, all of my information is on the Office calendar but not iCal.  The iCloud version of my iCal calendar is not up to date.  In any event, I couldn't figure out how to send that info to the iCal on my mac or my phone.  How can I sync my Office calendar info to iCal?  If that's not possible, how can I get my Office calendar to sync with my iPhone?  All of my sync services are set up in iTunes and on my phone.  This happened to me once before and I spent hours on the phone with Apple and on the web trying to work it out.  I NEED MY CALENDAR!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!

As that's not an Apple product, you may get more help by using Microsoft's Office for Mac forums:
    Office for Mac forums
The other concern I have is that Office 2011 requires an Intel-based Mac and you posted in the older iMac (pre-Intel or "PPC") forums. If you have an Intel-based iMac (Apple menu > About this Mac..." will say "Intel" if you do) then I think you'll get faster and more accurate ansers to other questiosn in the Apple forums for newer iMacs here:

  • How can I create a new folder in Word for Mac ?

How can I create a new folder in Word for Mac?

You don't do this in Word. You do it in the OS X Finder.
All you need do in Word is open the file, then select Save As from Word's File menu. Change the destination to your new folder then click on the Save button.
The Finder method is much faster if you have a number of files you want to move. Just remember that to open those moved files in Word, you will have to change the directory from which you will open those files.

  • CS5 for Mac or PC (Specs for both included)

I have both a Macbook and a Dell laptop, and I'm trying to figure out which machine would run most CS5 programs better, with an emphasis on Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver.
    Dell
OS: Win XP 32bit (cannot upgrade because of work)
    2.80 ghz Core 2 Duo
    4gb RAM
    Mac
    OS: Snow Leopard
    2.2 ghz Core 2 Duo
    4gb RAM
I realize my processor is slower on my Mac, but it does have an upgraded operating system that supports the use of 64 bits, which i know would come into play with larger files... but I'm not sure if the more advanced operating system + CS5 would work better than a faster processor + CS5.
It wish Adobe would allow me to install one license on two different platforms, since I'd only be using one at a time anyway.
    Thanks!

It really depends on your workflow, if 1.7GB of ram for Photoshop is enough for your needs then the Dell will be faster. If on the other hand you're working with huge files then the Mac will probably be faster.
Also, not all Core2Duo processors are identical, there are 65nm and 45nm versions and the 45nm versions are faster clock for clock so that might also skew the outcome. If i'm not mistaken, the 65nm C2D mobile processors go only up to 2.6Ghz so the Dell probably has the 45nm version

I have been using ColdFusion on a Mac for years. Now CF fails to start after I updated Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4. I usually start by typing in the terminal window sudo /Applications/ColdFusion8/bin/ColdFusion start.
There is a crash report but I don't know how to read it. See attached.
Please help, I need this working for my job.

    Dear Craig,
Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB RAM
I'm sure that this is 64-bit
    CF 8.0.1 Enterprise Build 3080
I had moved the Java SE 6 to the top in both Plugin and Applications. The
correct version is showing in the terminal window. See below.
Last login: Thu Jun 18 11:27:09 on ttys001

    java version "1.6.0_13"

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.3-b02-83, mixed mode)

CF will not start. I have the activity monitor open, and when I start CF you
see it in the activity monitor for a few seconds as it starts up. When the
message process is completed in the terminal window CF disappears in the
    activity monitor.
    Any suggestions?
    C
    Hi, Colin,
My apologies but I forgot to ask 2 questions: (1) What kind of Mac you have
(Intel or PowerPC)? (2) What version of CF are you running and what installer
    did you choose (8 or 8.0.1, 32-bit, 64-bit, etc.)?
    To start, try the following:
    1. Normally you'd shut CF down first ... but that's not necessary for you
    2. Open Java Preferences again
    3. Select Java SE 6 and move it (drag) to the top spot in both section (Applet
    Plugin and Applications)
    4. Open Terminal
    5. Type java -version (you should see 1.6.0_13 as the new version)
    6. Try to start CF again
This may not work (I've had issues with it) but it's technically how it's
supposed to work. With the Java Preferences utility, you're visually setting a
default JVM (you can do it with commands in Terminal but this is much faster
    and easier).
If CF still won't start, look for the jvm.config file in your CF application
    folder (try /Applications/ColdFusion8/bin or
    /Applications/ColdFusion8/runtime/bin -- the latter is where a jvm.config file
is on my machine for a particular version of CF that's installed similar to
yours). You can override the JVM in this file but, hopefully, that won't be
    necessary!
    Best,
    Craig
