Fast forward shared movies

How can I rapidly move to a point in a long title (e.g. movie) and restart playback?
This is especially important for shared videos as the fast forward using the remote stalls after a couple of minutes of playback due to starvation of the streamed video.
If I want to stop playback and restart at, say 45 minutes in, it can take 10 minutes using the remote to get there.
Any suggestions?
MacBook Pro, intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

If you press rewind or fast forward once, the film will jump to the previous or next chapter, depending on which direction you want to go.
If you press and hold the FF or Rewind button on your remote, the blue bar at the bottom of the screen pops up with an arrow in the left hand corner showing the direction of search < or > (Rewind = <, FF = >) if you then press and hold Rewind or FF again during the search, you will get << or >> or press and hold again you get <<< or >>> and the search will quicken accordingly to the amount of arrows showing in the left hand edge of the blue bar. When you reach the part you want to view from hit the play button on your remote again and the film will continue from that point.
Hope that helps :o)

Is there a way to fast forward the movie clip, so it shows as fast forward in the final clip, please help. (iMovie 08')

In iMovie 08 - the answer is no. It does not have the video fx that were in iMovie 06. You can get iMovie 06 as a free download, if you already have iLife '08. Then you have access to a much better programme for doing the editing tasks you want.

  • Can you fast forward in movies?

When I view a video, if I click the center button I sometimes see the "timing" bar (that shows time played and time remaining) although it doesn't seem to work all the time.
Even when I see the bar displayed, it looks like I can't use the wheel to select a starting time to play from? I expected to see a diamond that I can move around just like when I play music.
Am I missing something about the user interface, or do I just have to make sure I have the time to watch the whole video in one sitting?
FYI, for some reason the video appears under "music video" rather than movies, I'm nt sure why nor do I know if this might have an impact on playback capabilities

    Hi Papa....
I have the classic 80. While a video is playing, if I push the center button once, I can use the touch wheel to change volume. If I double click the center button, then I can scroll through the video to fast forward and reverse. When I find the section of video I want, then I click the center button again and it goes to the point I selected.
Also, if I push and hold the right or left arrow, the video will fast forward and reverse. This way of fast-forwarding and reversing is not very precise. But it works for me.
    Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • Quicktime fast forwards all movies?!

I really need help with this, i have the latest quicktime 7.3 installed and ANY movie i play in quicktime just fast forwards? thats the only way i can describe it, say an hour long movie it will show like 10 frames and fast forward to the end in like 5 seconds. Ive tried reinstalling quicktime but no effect, this has only happened since installing Leopard. any help guys?! please?!

I'm curious... are you using a Firewire audio interface ? I noticed that when I'm using the internal audio output of my Power Mac, the problem is gone. When using my firewire Saffire Pro 10, the fast forward problem is there. I also noticed that I get little glitches in iTunes at the same time.

  • Clip inspector-as i try to fast forward,i movie freezes and clip preview section goes blank. please help.

As I try to fast forward my selected clip, the video preview section goes blank and the clip doesnt get fast forwarded. I have to restart the imovie in order to be able to get the preview back. and in all this, the clip inspector never works. I updated my mac's software several times hoping that it would resolve the issue but nothing of that kind happened. Please help me.

Select the clip in the timeline and then the drop down menu should work okay. You can hold down the control key and click on the clip to get the drop down menu and select retime editor.

  • Why won't iDVD 08 preview controls allow fast forward?

It says in the manual that clicking the "right arrow" button on the on-screen control panel will fast-forward the movie, but it doesn't. Can anyone tell me why this is?
And why doesn't the iDVD preview have the same preview slider as QuickTime does?

This is simply a suggestion .... if you are in need of "scrubbing the timeline" do this in the video editing app (ie, iMovie or FCP) and not iDVD.
The main reason we don't normally scrub the entire video w/in iDVD itself is because this is not where video editing is done (as opposed to authoring the entire DVD).
iMovie and iDVD are like a candy bar. The chocolate bar would be iMovie and iDVD would be the candy wrapper (the outside packaging only). Hope this analogy makes sense.
A couple of things you can do to quickly preview your iDVD prior to burning to media if Preview / FF isn't working correctly in iDVD..... The first would be to jump to different scenes using scene selections w/in iDVD or perhaps make a disc image first of the dvd to the desktop and then use apple's dvd player to fast forward, reverse, etc.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
This might be a problem with the movies themselves, where are they from, are they your own movies that you have converted yourself.

  • Movies fast forward on some computers

I have encountered one customer and one computer in our

show the first slide and immediately fast forward to the last

have no idea where to start looking. Can you help?

    Hi CareFactsME
You should probably investigate which version of the Flash
Player add in is in use on that particular PC. You may do this by
    visiting the following web page:

Upgrading to a newer version may be needed.

  • Front Row playing shared TV video and using Fast-Forward question

I'm playing a shared TV video on my Black MacBook from my iTunes running on my PowerMac G5 across my home ethernet 10/100/1000 network. The TV video plays just fine and I can pause it using the Remote just fine. However, according to the documentation for the Remote while using Front Row in this manner, the Remote's Fast-forward is supposed to fast-forward the video if it's pressed and held down. It does not do this! It simply shows the progress bar for the video with played time on left and remaining time on right. I held the button down for at least 30 secs but to no avail. I let up on the button and press and held down for another 30 secs or so but it still would not fast-forward as the documention says it should.
My MacBook is updated with all the latest Apple software downloads for MacBook.
Have others experienced this problem, and if so is there a soln to this at this time or does one simply wait for Apple to fix it.
I will be sending feedback to Apple on this issue.
Thanks for any insights in advance.

    Update...
I left Front Row paused on a shared TV Video all night. In morning time screen was black and I could not resume playback.
I backed out all the way to Desktop and restarted Front Row and selected same shared TV Video - and this time the fast-forward button worked as documented. Go figure this one
However, when I tried several Shared TV Videos I only got audio in some cases and when I did get a video feed it was not moving yet audio kept rolling along. I had to back off to the Desktop several times and restart Front Row to get things working correctly. If you enecounter this just do what I did here and you'll get things going - just don't give up on it, is my advice. :-))
This raised another issue - It appears that pause/play Remote button will not work (at least for me) after extended pause time (like for 8 hrs).
Apple has some fine tuning to do on this Front Row feature - although I will add they've done a pretty darn good job with its initial release IMO.

  • Fast forward time stretch effect / blurring / MOV

    Hello friends,
So I did an entire 3 minute video using a time stretch effect (fast forwarding, time elapse) to match a voice over.
I saved it out as FLV so that the client could proof it. All was good so I wanted to provide an MOV file in H264 to increase quality / make Apple compatible for You Tube viewing.
When I did, the FF time stretch video really blurred and pixelated in the video.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a codec or something that might reduce the amount of dragging / pixelation / bluriness? (That of course has high quality)
Video was shot using a Canon Vixia HFS30.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Bill, Steve,
I'm hoping you can shed some light now that I can actually show you what the issue is here with the fast forward motion effect. I've put two files I've uploaded below. Same issue on both.
The fast forward effect is on from 0:00 - 0:45
    Quiktime, H264 -
    http://youtu.be/Vs7u0kQ0hVQ
Also, can you tell me why the MOV files don't seem to fill the frame?
    Flash, FLV
    http://youtu.be/lfnci6Enxkk
As you can see, the higher you set the resolution, the more pixelated I become.
Any help you can offer is appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Fast forward problem in iTunes 6.0.1.3

    Hello
I am using iTunes 6.0.1.3 on Windows XP Pro.
The situation is this. I have a song that is 7:30 long. When I play it normally it works just fine. However when I use the fast forward and advance to time mark 6:45 and start playing it is actually playing the part of the song that is at 6:00 (within a second or two), I let it go ahead and play and when it gets to 7:30 it just stops and jumps to the top of the menu tree (both it iTunes and on my ipod (40 gig 4g).
I have tried the fast forwarding in Music Match and Adobe Audition and it works just fine. I have tested the mp3 file with all the editors and players I have and it works great.
It appears there is some type of synch issue with fast forward and I don't really know where to start.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank You.
Sony VGC RA810G   Windows XP Pro

Well, I've noticed this problem at work (while using my work laptop on a network with other users -- some who have iTunes 5 and some iTunes 6) and at home (using a completely different laptop).
At first I thought it was a configuration problem on my work laptop, but now I'm thinking it has something to do with iTunes itself.
The weird thing is: People at work who use iTunes 5.0 can see the shared drives without a problem. Those with 6.0 cannot. So this problem is replicating itself in two completely different environments -- leading me to believe it's something in iTunes 6. Hmm....

  • How Can I Fast Forward through clips - Any key Command?

I am watching some long clips in my event library ... I want to choose sections to move to the project library.
As the movie plays ... I can use the arrow (left and right) to slow mo forward or backward.
What I need is a key command that will give me a fast forward ... say 2 or 3 times play speed.
The only way I know to fast forward is to use the trackpad with my fingers but this way I keep losing my position on the clips and skip over rows ... you also have to drag back to the beginning of the next row and know where you are ..
To find parts of clips that you want to select and drag up to your project this seems like a necessity especially when viewing a long movie ... it's really tedious to have to drag through the whole thing.
    AM I out of luck?

    OOOpps ... sorry ... wrong forum ....
