Fast Internet Connection, but webpages loading slowly

Hello everybody,
this is my first post in this community. So far this group has helped me to solve all kinds of problems I ran into by simply browsing the forum, but this time I hope that somebody might be able to help me directly.
My wireless network at home consists of an AirPort Extreme Base Station (4th Generation) and an AirPort Express Base Station that are both connected via Ethernet to a Cisco Router. I have a cable internet connection and I use the Cisco Router (which was provided by my ISP) as an interface between the cable socket and my two Apple base stations. However, only the AirPort Extreme Base Station is used to create a wireless network. The AirPort Express is used only for AirPlay.
For a couple of months now, I have been experiencing an odd problem. Webpages take a very long time to load on my MacBook Pro (13'' Retina display), my older MacBook, as well as on my girlfriend's MacBook Air (11''). Sometimes the pages load for so long that there is a timeout before the page is loaded completely. I experience this with all kinds of web browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chrome). The odd thing is that only the loading of webpages seem to be affected. Internet Downloads, Video Streams, etc. are still extremely fast. I get the following results on speedtest.net (after spending 1 minute to load the page):
- Ping: 9ms
- Download Speed: 38.55 Mbps
- Upload Speed: 7.62 Mbps
Also, when connected to the network with my iPad or my girlfriend's iPhone, pages load with a normal speed. We experience the issues only on our Mac computers. Outside my home network all computers load pages as quickly as they should.
Here is a list of things that I tried:
- Restarted AirPort Extreme Base Station and Cisco Router
- Factory Reset of AirPort Extreme Base Station and Cisco Router
- Downgraded AirPort Extreme Base Station from 7.6.1. to various former versions and back
- Changed channels of the Airport Extreme Base Station
- Connected to AirPort Extreme base station via Ethernet (pages still loading slowly)
- Ran Activity Monitor on my Mac, but found no activities that could cause the Mac to slow down
- Ran Network Utility and sent a ping to google.com, but experienced no traffic loss
At this point I am really running out of ideas on how to solve this. Does anybody have a clue what might cause this?
Best regards,
Georg

HI tzbikowski,
thanks for your message!
I added 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to my DNS server list. This has definitely improved things. Pages are loading quicker now, but it's still far from the speed you would expect. Could you elaborate on what you mean when you say that the cisco settings should be correctly propagated onto LAN? When connecting to the Cisco router through the admin interface, it mentions two different DNS servers that the router appears to use (I guess those are provided by my ISP). Are you referring to these servers?
Thanks!

  • WRT54GS and MAC OSX "has internet connection, but cannot load page"

Ok, I have skimmed through the threads here and the FAQ and still am having troubles. I amt trying to connect a MacbookPro to this wireless router. I have had it connected before which adds to my frustration. I ran all the system diagnostics and come to a point where it says, "This device has an internet connect but cannot load __________. Make sure you have the address typed in correctly." My MAC picks up the router signal, but in the diagnostics it goes as follows. AirPort - Yes Airport Settings - Yes Network Settings - Yes ISP - Yes Internet - No Server - No Please, any help is very appreciated.

Also tried the factory reset and starting from scratch and nothing...

  • Blazing fast internet connection, but still taking 4 hours to download a movie on Apple tv?

This apple tv has been nothing but a huge pain in the *** so far. I started watching a movie that I rented and then it stops 20 minutes into the movie and says it will need between 3 and 7 hours to download the rest and be ready to play. ***?

    vazandrew -
I have seen you make several posts on different threads always pushing istumbler and namebench to help solve this problem. While I do appreciate the help, it seems like you must work either for one of those companies or for Apple. I own 4 Apple TV 3's in three different locations (my office, home, beach house). I am having this problem at all three. I too had ATV 2's before and had no problems with downloading movies/buffering. The only common denominator for all three locations is they are all connected wirelessly through an Apple Time Capsule and are using high-speed cable Internet. I am using my ISPs DNS in all three locations, have little to no interference, and have minimum internet speeds of 15 mbps. Through process of elimination, the problem has to lie either with Apple or with my internet service provider. The funny thing is I don't have internet problems with anything else. I realize that an ethernet connection would make everything better, but that is not feasible. Aren't the ATV's designed to be used wirelessly? If it is a problem of "high traffic time" with my cable in the evenings, do you know of any way of getting my ISP to improve this? Otherwise, it seems to be an Apple problem. I will note that the iTunes store has gone offline several times in the last couple of weeks. Again, this has never happened to me before. Any help is much appreciated. I am a devoted Apple user, and this is the first time I have been this frustrated. Why pay for the fastest internet possible if my Apple TV is still not going to work?

  • Fast internet connection but very slow browsing

    Hi,
For some time now we have been struggling with very slow browsing speeds. Sometimes the web page will not even load. ADSL speed checks show a good up and down speed and shown below and everything appears to run well if we simply download a file.
Do any of the numbers below indicate any problems?
We have various pc's both hard wired and connected wirelessly and the problems are the same on all. The laptop works fine on my office connection.

  • Fast internet connection but low bitrate

I wonder why my bitrate while video chatting is approx. 300 kbit/s, when it could be 1000kbit/s? I set Bandwidth limit in iChat to none and in QT Streaming setting to the highest possible (LAN/Intranet). I use iChat>check connection to check the bitrate. I often noticed, that in the beginning of the video chat, the bitrate is very high and then it goes down. I tested it also with the Apple-iChat Test Servers and the same occured.
    What is here the problem?

    So they aren't

    Hi
I am experiencing wireless connection problem on 4s after ios 8.1 upgrade. The wireless icon appears showing that it's connected but webpages do not load. I have checked my internet connection with other devices and seems to be alright. what to do?
I have tried reseting the network settings and forgetting my wireless connection and re-connecting to it. I even backed up my phone on itunes and restored it, factory reseted it. Nothing seems to work.
Also after my upgrade to ios 8.1 my personal hotspot option under cellular data has disappeared.
Would you please help me out? I would really appreciate it.

    Hi..
Restart your router then restart the iPhone to test.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

  • Macbook Pro has good internet connectivity, but when I try to open a web page it will not open

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • HT204406 How long would you expect 90gbytes to take when uploading to Match - with a fast internet connection.

After purchasing Match, the software analysed my library and determined that there were 3700 tracks that needed to be upload. How long would you expect this to take - with a fast internet connection?

Running 10.6.8 on Intel dual core iMac, it keeps on losing internet connection. Webpages get stuck after a minute or so. If I check the internet connection via diagnostics it seems to work just fine. Others, like the iPad use the same wifi connection and never fail. What can I do?

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

I have manually set up my EA6900. It does work fine but on the UI screen by networkstatus it signs with a red dot that there is no internet connection but i can normal use the internet. Is there is something wrong with the firmware?

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6 is recommended.

For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm and http://cognitiveanomalies.com/cisco-nat-how-nat-works/. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.
