Fast Reader vs ODI

Hi,
Anybody worked on Fast reader or have any idea on how ODI and Fast reader can be compared ?
Thanks,
Ramesh

You mean this one ?

For me Fast Reader looks lighter than ODI and I don't know it gives you the flexibility to create your own of way handling data as ODI does.
Also, there is no perfect product. You have to find out what is the most suitable for your needs.

  • Making the vi faster - read from txt or array or binary reading

    I prepared a vi that reads a table from txt file and find the desired values corresponding independent two variables by interpolation-attached. This via reads the txt file for each calculation. I wonder that is this process slow or enough for me. Becasue I add this via to a daq vi and I send measurement values from this via to the interpolation.vi. I acquired samples once in a sec. Or is this more convenient to read the txt once and after writing values to arrays and use these arrays as a constant (Right click array-->Data Operation-->Make current value default) in the vi? Which one is faster? And also, I wonder that instead of reading from txt file, is it a good way to convert my values in txt to binary data and read this binary values by vi? Last thing, how can I learn a vi program run-spend time?

    Reordering your words a bit... Are you asking how to measure how long it takes to run your VI?  You can do this with a sequence structure (one of the few reasonable uses for them): in the first frame put a "Tick Count" or "Get Date/Time in Seconds" function.  In the next frame put your code.  In the last frame, put the same function that you placed in the first frame.  Subtract the time value in the first frame from the value in the last frame; the difference is the time it took to run your VI in milliseconds or seconds (depending on which time function you used).
    Another option is the VI Profiler, under Tools -> Performance and Memory.  Open that window, click "Start," run your code, and click "Stop."  It will report how much time it took to run your VI along with other timing information.
    Thank you nathand. I am sorry for usage of wrong order. I tried your suggestion and it works great. The first vi takes 4-6 msec. And the second one takes just 0 msec because it does not calculate anything, including just constant values.

  • Please advice about fast reading/writing

    Hi All,
    I am building a custom system for Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4, I know this is not a PS forum but I think the hardware experts are here.
    The components I have already selected are:
    i7-3930k
    ASUS P9X79 PRO
    64GB RAM (GSKILL)
    WD Caviar Black 1TB
    Since I have enough RAM the scratch disk is not something to worry about, after reading this article about SSDs for PS:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/optimize-performance-photoshop-cs4-cs5.html#main_Solid _state_disks
    I think a SSD is useful only when starting the applications (having them in the SSD), which is not important for me (I do it twice or three times per day). What I would like to do (and is the matter of this post) is to open and save my large pictures (700MB to 1+ GB) as kickly as posibble, is the Caviar Black a good choice or should I consider a SSD? What about a WD velociraptor? Also, I would appreciate advice about other options.
    The last custom build I did was probably 8 years ago so I am not up to date with the hardware technology, I have learned a lot reading this great forum :-).
    Thank you,
    William Gonzales

    William,
    I use Photoshop CS5 and Bridge a lot and care particularly about how fast the PC can read since this dramatically impacts how fast you can process and rank lots of shots.
    Bottom line...
    Suggest in addition to whatever your boot drive is you configure a 2xRAID 0 7200rpm drive setup for your data. You have an extremely capable CPU and lots of RAM, so your disk speed is definitely a bottleneck.
    Another alternative, although more expensive and quite a bit smaller would be one of the latest, fastest SSDs that can finally deliver on the write side. (i.e. Samsung 840 Pro and its competitors). This would be a secondary drive to whatever you have for your boot drive.
    Another suggestion, is make sure you have a video card with good 2D speed. That is get one that can move lots of data; this spec. (Memory Bandwidth, often in GB/sec) is often buried since gaming and 3D features (cores, shading, memory size, etc.) are most important for most users. My video card, a GTX 480 has a memory bandwidth of 177.4 GB/sec, but probably any card with at least 80 GB/sec will probably work very well with your apps.

    Jim

  • Afp: write fast, read slow. Is that normal?

    Hi,
    I find that I can write fast over my network when using afp, but reads are very slow. This happens when writing from one mac to another (one running 10.3.9 the other 1.4.8) or between either of the two macs and a Linux server running netatalk 2.0.2. So I guess it's not OS or machine related, but related to either afp itself or my network.
    When I try these connections with Helios LANtest, I get write speeds of about 2.7 MB/s and read speeds of 0.30 MB/s.
    Are others experiencing this too, or is there something wrong with my network?
    TIA
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Debian Linux user

    After a few experiment here... using activity Monitor to watch transfers though.
    Via Wireless was really slow, much slower reading than writing though. On Ethernet 10/100 when one end was set to Automatic, copying from the distant one was about half as fast, setting it to 100/Full Duplex on both ends made reads and writes about equal... 1-1.3MBs
    On Wireless, just not having the Copy Window in front would immediately drag it down from 100-200KBs to 20-60KBs, bringing the Copy Window back front would slowly take it back up to speed.

  • A Extremely Fast Read Speed File System

    Other day i was playing a game and get annoyed with the long loading times between levels, then i raise a question to myself...
    There is no File System optimized for Read Speed?
    I did not want one "bloated" with journaling, snapshots and all those nice all use optimizations.
    I just want a plain Bare, Very simple, File System that is indisputably fast at Read Speed!
    It can also be processor demanding, it is not a problem for this use case...
    Someone know a File System Like that?
    What is the viability(and complexity) to make one?
    Sorry by the bad english!

    This is just a guess here but how much data do you need to load?
    If it is a lot of MB not even the best filesystem in the world can speed that up, to make things worse I'm guessing that you aren't loading the data from contiguous files on the HD.
    To add another variable to the way hard disks perform there is the possibility of having some data compressed and this will make it depend on how fast is your cpu.
    As far as I know some compression formats although very efficient can have a very big speed penalty, also the speed and configuration of you memory subsystem can impact performance as well. Also if the data is compressed in a way that you can't use multiple cores to decompress it then it doesn't matter if you have a system with a single core cpu of one with 100 cpus.
    Sometimes having as much ram as you can will be the best option, sometimes having the fastest ram possible is best.
    To make things worse, newer systems seem to add another degree of complexity to this as for some loads one type of memory association is better and for other loads other type of association is better (I'm thinking of ganged / unganged configuration in the bios).
    In my experience, when using ext3, if you add noatime and nodiratime to the mount option you will get a bit better performance, of course different filesystems will have different performance when reading but as far as I know no filesystem is the best of all for everything, so consider your overall experience.
    Is it worth having a system that can have a speed penalty when used in everyday tasks just for the sake of having one game load the levels faster? Also how long will you be playing that particular game? Is it worth all the trouble just for one game you will stop playing in a couple of months?
    On the use of SSD hard drives .... I've been more tempted to get one before but .... although read speed and access times are first class it seems there is more to this kind of drives than what meets the eye, some drives seem to behave terribly when writing under certain conditions (typically when there are multiple write requests), again the overall speed of the system, not just when using one program.
    After considering all the benefits and downsides if you still really want faster load times for that game then the best way to find out the faster filesystem is to try them all and time the load times.
    Happy benchmarking .

  • Faster reading the xml

    Hi,
    I'm sorry to ask a stupid question.. I've tried to read the following xml file, but spent a lot of code. especially checking the exist nodes. Does using for-loop is the only way?
    Does anyone got a faster way to read? or any suggestions to read ?
    Thanks..
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <Main Version="3">
    <SetupName>Setup 1</SetupName>
    <Remarks>My Testing</Remarks>
    <PlateSize>
    <NodeName name="plate" width="1200" height="1200" />
    </PlateSize>
    <PaperSize>
    <NodeName name="paper" width="1000" height="700" />
    </PaperSize>
    </Main>

    I've tried to use javax.xml.xpath;
    yes, it becomes easier to select target node.
    however, after getting the node, I still got problem to extract the inner text within an element. e.g. <Name>abc</Name>
    I don't know why I can't use Node.getTextContent() method. Not sure is it the problem of my JBuilder or compiler.
    I've tried to find this problem from web, someone also got this problem, however, no solution provided.
    Can anyone help ?

  • A serious issue with excel file read in ODI

    hi gurus,
    Issue with excel file read is that we can read only one file by setting the path from ODBC Data Source Administrator-->System DNS -->Select Work book
    what i want to read the dynamic path(Every time I cant go back and set the Work book to select the excel file..
    So i came up with a solution to write a Vbscript that convert the excel to csv my problem got solved for dynamic paths the script is as follow:
    Set objArgs = WScript.Arguments
    For I = 0 to objArgs.Count - 1
    FullName = objArgs(I)
    FileName = Left(objArgs(I), InstrRev(objArgs(I), ".") )
    Set objExcel = CreateObject("Excel.application")
    set objExcelBook = objExcel.Workbooks.Open(FullName)
    objExcel.application.visible=false
    objExcel.application.displayalerts=false
    objExcelBook.SaveAs FileName & "csv",23
    objExcel.Application.Quit
    objExcel.Quit
    Set objExcel = Nothing
    set objExcelBook = Nothing
    Next
    Now this script convert the xls file to csv with comma seprated values
    e.g in excel sheet if data is ABC XYZ PQR
    csv will come with ABC,XYZ,PQR
    here the delimiter is , i want the delimiter as pipe | who's ascii code is 124
    but if i change 23 with 124 its not working i getting the error cannot save as...
    can anyone tell me that what should be the correct code for pipe
    so that the output is ABC|XYZ|PQR
    AS WE CAN USE THE SCRIPTS IN TOOLS

    I dont have the answer for your question but i have different approach in handling multiple Excel File.
    Step 1. Copy a sample source Excel File and Call it Final.xls .
    Step 2. Map this Final.xls to DSN and in Topology call this Final.xls
    Step 3. Do the Reversing and Map and test the Interface . Once its done.
    Step 4. Create a Package and using a http://odiexperts.com/?p=1426 get the list of all the Excel File
    Step 5 . Using this http://odiexperts.com/?p=273 create a Loop to Read the Excel File name
    Step 6 . Copy using OdiFileCopy to Final.xls and run your interface .
    Step 7. Increment the Loop and copy your next File for Final and run the interface
    Step 8 . Finally you will be able to read all the Excel File .
    Step 9 . Delete the source file [ Optional ]
    Hope this helps.

    Around a price of $100 or less.
    I am looking for either a 64 GB of 128 GBs Flash drive OR a very small portable USB 2.0 ( if available would prefer FW800 connection) hard drive that I can conveniently carry on my with complete system and data on it. I would like the portable hard drive to be less than $200, if possible.
    All ideas for this ard welcome.
    I am just looking for a solution that is fairly easy to carry in a pants pocket that I can use to boot up on Macs of my various friends.

  • How to purge tables using odi ???

    hi,
    I want to purge the Data in target table.my Data Policy is to only retain the only 90 days. I have to keep only 90 days data. How can i do this in ODI. I have only one DATE column.
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    AMSII

    If your existing date field can be used to identify the records to be purged, then you could simply create a procedure in ODI along the lines of
    delete from <%=odiRef.getSchemaName( )%>.*your_table* where your_date_field < (sysdate - 90)
    This is the simplest way, but be wary of your indexes on the table that they don't get too fragmented. You could also investigate using a daily partition startegy on the table which would enable you to drop partitions older than 90 days which would be much faster.

  • Faster Alternatives to Bridge CC

    I only use Bridge as a photo browser--I use Lightroom/Photoshop for any real work.
    But sometimes I just want to browse a folder and be able to zoom and/or open in Photoshop.
    So I do use Bridge in this very limited way.
    But CC is so slow as to be non-functional. [running Mountain Lion on Core i7 with 16GB RAM]
    I use a lot of CC software--Lightroom, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Audition--none of it crawls like this.
    So, my question is--is there a faster, professional [i.e. NOT Picassa] photo browser that I can replace Bridge with?
    [I have a lot of photos on archived on several drives]
    Obviously, there's Photo Mechanic...which I may go to if I have to, especially on location. But for now I was hoping for something a little less expensive. Plus it duplicates a lot of Lightroom does, which is my main workhorse.
    I just want a photo browser.
    Thanks,
    Margot

    This is a late reply but hopefully it might help you or someone else.
    For those who don't want to read my mammoth post this is the condensed version:
    Bridge/Lightroom = good but painfully slow.
    Alternatives for PC:
    ACDSee Pro ( I use Pro 6.0)
    Faststone - Free and fast.
    Alternatives for Mac:
    ACDSee Pro ( I use 2.0)
    Xee - Free and fast, but few features
    On to the full version.
    First, my experience with Bridge/Lightroom then further down my solution:
    Bridge/lightroom both have good file management tools and lots of other features but as you've discovered they are slow.
    I've used Lightroom (sparingly) since 3.0 up to 5.0. Only reason I have the latest version now is because i'm subscribing to Adobe CC and I hoped for some improvements regarding speed and workflow but was disappointed. Still slow image to image rendering and still no way to simply browse files without importing them. (or have I missed something?)
    Main thing is still that it's slow.
    Bridge has been around for a long time now and I've tried using it since my first version which shipped with Adobe Master Collection CS3. I've jumped on every single update Adobe has thrown at it but it is still painfully slow when browsing/viewing images and forget about selecting images based on sharpness as it simply cannot handle proper scaling to screen size on the fly. It has to create preview files first, which I have still not managed to set up in spite of an excess of 100 hours research/re-install/cache purging/mucking with settings etc..
    My experience tells me that the only way to accurately gauge focus in Bridge is to zoom in 100%, something that also takes extra time especially with raw files.
    I really want to love Bridge since that would mean my Adobe CC subscription would handle everything I need, but no, I simply cannot get around the fact that Bridge is too slow to be efficient.
    For the record my systems are not slow, the specs are:
    PC:
    QuadCore i7 2.8GHz
    12GB RAM
    120GB SSD system drive
    Seagate 3TB 7200rpm photo drives
    Eizo 24" flat monitor (don't have the model nr right now but it's a S-PVA panel with good colors)
    Mac:
    Macbook Pro Retina 15"
    2.6 GHz i7
    16 GB Ram
    256GB SSD
    3:rd party solutions I use/used that you might give a try:
    My first choice is ACDSEE - I currently own ACDSEE Pro 6.0 for PC and 2.0 for Mac. I mainly use it to go through my memory cards during import and for that it is MILES AHEAD Lightroom/Bridge.
    There is a decent Categories feature that I sometimes use to keep track of where certain types of images are. For example I've created sets of categories for different clients to keep track of my best images for each client.
    I usually go through my memory cards and simply hit CTRL+B to save to save selected photos into the image basket, this gives me a virtual selection that I can choose to copy elsewhere or perhaps open in Photoshop straight from the memory card.
    It also serves as a blazing fast image viewer, it handles most image formats including jpg/png/gif/psd etc. Best of all, it's REALLY FAST compared to Lightroom and Bridge. It even handles quite big .PSD's however the bigger they get the longer it takes obviously.
    There are key differences between the PC version and Mac version with the PC version being better according to me. One example: The PC version uses two different keyboard shortcuts for the virtual "Image Basket", CTRL+B to add images, ALT+X to remove them from the basket. The Mac version(2.0) only has a "Tag" function where adding/removing images from the tagged list is done with the same shortcut which means you have to exit fullscreen in order to be 100% sure you have added/removed the tag. Also I had to reassign the shortcut because the standard one did nothing.
    I've used ACDSee on the PC about 7 years, it's been really buggy at times, most notably known for "ragequitting" on you while browsing images but the last 3 versions or so have behaved really well. I have still experienced errors forcing me to shut it down but it is now a rare problem and I prefer that risk over the inexcusable slow Bridge/Lightroom. Pro 2.0 is my first experience with it on Mac and it still needs some tweaks but some of my gripes are partly related to getting used to the Mac interface.
    Free alternatives that I've used and recommend:
    For PC I would say Faststone is a really good option, it's fast, reads most image formats, has a tagging function which gives a graphic que wether or not the image is tagged (small pink square appears in the upper left corner if I remember correctly). It has lots of features easily accessed in fullscreen by simply moving the cursor to either side of the screen. Oh and it displays the images way sharper than Bridge/Lightroom without the need to zoom in 100%. Just as with ACDSee it's often possible to determine the sharpness of an image with the image fitted to the screen size, without going 100%.
    For Mac I initially wanted a Faststone alternative since ACDSee wasn't available at first. My research led me to "Xee", a free image viewer that works well although lacks thumbnail view and has nothing equivalent of the Image Basket or tag function for ACDSee.
    Ok, I think I've done my share of typing today, I hope someone finds this information useful.
    If you read this Adobe; C'mon... shape up Bridge and Lightroom already, you've had many years to get it right but alot of users still see poor performance in those otherwise great programs.

    Strange, this should be fine. You might want to try a more efficient (and shorter and faster) read code:
    byte[] buffer = new byte[512];
    ByteArrayOutputStream  = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    int b;
    while((b=dis.read(buffer))!=-1){
      bs.write(buffer,0,b);
    t_data = bs.toByteArray();No need to check for content length, and always fast. I hope this helps...

  • EAP-TLS and EAP-FAST

    Hi NetPro.
    EAP-TLS is working now, but how to configure EAP-FAST as the backup in case TLS is failure then user still able to use FAST as the second choice ?
    your reply will be highly appreciated.
    thanks heaps.
    Jack

    All you really need to do is enabled EAP-FAST on the Radius server. If you are running a controller environment there isn't any changes on the controller needed. If you are running autonomous make sure you have both "authentication open..." and "authentication network-eap..." configured under the SSID. They only thing that would need to be changed would be the client. You could setup two profiles, one for TLS and the other for EAP-FAST.

  • ODI Commands, emailing, moving and checking files

    Hi Everyone,
    This time I am posting here because what I would like to do is the following:
    *1. Make ODI search a folder and see if there is any data available*
    So I assume that I will have to use something like:
    a) cmd /c dir C:\<Folders Path…>\<File_Name>*.<extension>
    b) cmd /c dir C:\<Folders Path…>\<File_Name>*.<extension> /b /a:-d > C:\< Folders Path…>\<File_Name>.lst
    Would it be better to use a) rather than b) I do not see any sense in using a *.lst.?
    *2. Load the file, and not use reverse engineering:*
    How can I do this?
    I had already posted this in the forum, but I think I was getting a wrong idea over it.
    Default data types when an Excel reverse engineering
    *3. To load my data into a Temporal Table and transform the data*
    I have already done it. :-)
    *4. Insert it into the table that’s is going to be used*
    I have already done it. :-)
    *5. Once successful move the uploaded file, move it to another folder and modify the name of it adding the system date.*
    OdiFileMove "-FILE=C:\<Folders Path…>\<File_Name>.<extension>" "-TOFILE=C:\<Folders Path…>\<File_Name>.<extension>" "-OVERWRITE=YES" "-CASESENS=NO" "-RECURSE=YES"
    But how do I add the name to the file? Any suggestions, ideas???
    I do have to move this to three different folders, so I will just have to use this ODI command three times and that will be it, no?
    *6. Send an email informing if the uploading has been successful or not in:*
    Step 1, Informing rather the file has been found or not
    Step 2, Informing if the file has a mistake or anything –data format-
    Step 5, Informing if the file has been moved to any of the three folders –ToLoad, Loaded, Erros- and attaching the file, and message saying how many lines were imported etc, etc….
    Would it be something like this????
    OdiSendMail "-MAILHOST=<my.host.whatever>" "-FROM=<sender_email>" "-SUBJECT=<My beautiful project>" "-TO=<receiver_emailn>" "-CC=<xperson_email>" "-ATTACH=C:\<Folders Path…>\<File_Name>.<extension>"
    Email content, email content, email content, email content…..
    Well so far this is what I will have to do, and I would really like to count with your help, ideas and guidance.
    P.D.: I have been trying to get some further reading about ODI “Oracle Data Integrator 11g: Getting Started”, but the book I am looking forward to get is not yet published, and every month they delay it one more month.

    Suthirta really Thank you so much!!!
    Before I wrote you, I have already created and implemented what I described you, so:
    + I created a new procedure.
    + On the definition tab as you suggested me, I changed the “Source Technology” to Oracle and the “Target Technology” to Sunopsis API
    + On the Detail Tab, I have created my new command
    - On the “Command on Source” tab
    I have placed the SELECT '<whatever_name>' || replace(sysdate,' ', '_') AS FILENAME FROM DUAL;
    And first left of the values by default or should I change them to the following:
    Tecnology: Oracle
    Context: The one that I am using
    Transaction: Autocommit
    Transaction Isolation: <Unidentified>
    Schema: The one that I am using
    Commit: <Unidentified>
    - On the “Command on Target” tab
    I have placed the #FILENAME
    And first left of the values by default or should I change them to the following:
    Tecnology: Sunopsis API
    Context: The one that I am using
    Transaction: Autocommit (appears as default)
    Transaction Isolation: <Unidentified> (appears as default)
    Schema: <Unidentified> (appears as default)
    Commit: <Unidentified> (appears as default)
    And so far, It should be working no? I am getting an error :-(
    On the OdiFileMove I have done the following:
    OdiFileMove "-FILE=C:\ <path1…>\<Original_File_Name>.xls" "-TOFILE=C:\ <path2…>\#FILENAME.xls" "-OVERWRITE=YES" "-CASESENS=NO" "-RECURSE=YES"
