Fast Start Quicktime Movies Wont Work

I dont know why Fast Start Quicktime movies wont work in iWeb. This exact same file I used in a site I created using Dreamweaver began the movie as soon as it reached a point where the entire movie could be viewed. Why not in iWeb?

For whatever reason, iWeb publishes the quicktime movies with the autostart attribute at "false". To enable autostart, you will need to edit the html file after publishing and set the autostart attribute to "true". Even though autostart may have been enabled within the movie encoding process ("in the file"), I believe that this property is allowed to be overridden by the html attributes within which the file is published.
There is a table of all the attributes that can be changed floating around here somewhere. Keep in mind that these post-publishing changes that you might make will be overwritten in any subsequent changes that you might make to the page within iWeb.

Is there a tool, programming approach, or way to applescript the detection of whether a movie was saved with fast start or not?
And if so, is there a programming approach or way to applescript QuickTime to quickly set, or resave the file without needing to reencode the file?
I need to create a process where I can verify that files on my server are set to fast start and if not then set them. Please help.

Anything supposedly saved by QT in the "MOV" container automatically defaults to "Fast Start." If in doubt or using other QT containers, simply use the "Save As ..." file option to resave these files with "Fast Start" without re-encoding.

Updateing movies in itunes then movie wont work???

hi there can anyone help me with this promlem!
when i try to change the name or put the artwork on some of my movies in itunes, it wont do it then the file/movie wont work??
does anyone know what the problem is?

Whilst I'm not absolutely sure what happens to the macroblock count when using the anamorphic flag, plain old mpeg4 does have low limits compared to AVC and I suspect you may be exceeding the mpeg4 resolution limit of 720 x 432. I feel that if you were to use AVC rather than mpeg4 your problem may well disappear. Your encoding times will increase, but so will your quality, mpeg4 at 1500 kbps is not really the best quality. Think of mpeg4 quality being half that of AVC at the same resolution, so your output quality is equivalent to AVC at 750 kbps, I use AC at 2500 kbps and many go even higher.

QuickTime Fast Start Progressive Download not Working - Help!

I can't figure this out - I have a large number of training movies created by a contractor. After uploading them to my website, I thought QT would start once a certain amount of data was downloaded. So, being new to QT, I thought that the videos should be exported with the "Prepare for Internet Streaming." checked with either "Fast Start" or "Fast Start & Compressed Header" selected. Well, I tried both and no luck. File sizes are between 8 MB and 40 MB. I discovered another site that has a 80 MB file that starts no problem, so obviously I am missing something! Any suggestions?

You should look at the part of my PDF that discusses QuickTime Media Links. These are text based files that will download with a click on the link and then can control the QuickTime Player application.
Your Web page layout could remain the same with these .qtl links and your QuickTime files could enter "Presentation" mode (full screen, if you like). They will launch the QuickTime Player app as the tiny .qtl file has downloaded or the .qtl download is double clicked.

How to export as mp4 and achieve effect of "fast start" in mov export

When exporting as a .mov one can check the "fast start" prepare for internet streaming option. This option allows the end user to start watching your video without waiting for the entire file to buffer/download. That's great.
However, when export as a .mp4 file, the same option does not exist.
Does anyone know how to achieve this "fast start" effect if exporting as an mp4?
I have an existing work around...just rename the .mov to .mp4.
I would like an .mp4 file because I use ezs3 to host my videos and the mp4 player options are far superior to the mov player options.

I'm having the same problem. I want to export an .mp4 that can start playing as soon as it starts downloading from a web site. Until I can find a solution, I'm using .m4v files, but they're huge.
Does anyone have a solution?

Mpg and mov wont work

my computer is set up to play mpg and mov with quicktime but wont, just says done with errors on the bottom of screen. i tried the troubleshooting and it shows the lil picture and clip but still doesnt work.

I will tell you how to do it but first promise that you will run Disk Repair (single user mode, install disk, or shift key held down at boot) and then repair permissions before trying to reinstall the packages.
Also, download the combo installer for 10.3.9 and run it again.
If none of the above works then you can go to Library/receipts/and the version of itunes and Quicktime that you want to install.
Drag them to the desktop and try reinstalling the updaters for itunes and Quicktime. It should work.

Movie wont work on my ipod

I bought the movie shooter off the itunes store. i go to put on my ipod and it says that it wont work on this ipod. my ipod is a brand new 80gb video why wont it work???

QuickTime movies that worked in 10.7 don't play in 10.8

I have several movies and clips, YouTube videos, etc. that worked just fine under Lion (10.7) but don't run at all under Mountain Lion (10.8). Some will open but not do anything when I click play. Others don't even open. What's up with this and how do I fix it short of dumping 10.8 and starting over with 10.7?

I don't think that I had any additional codecs installed before. It was pretty straight forward QuickTime.
I did have "Flip4Mac" installed to play WMV files through QuickTime under Lion and it worked fine, when I updated to Mountain Lion I also updated Flip4Mac to the newest vesion which says it runs under Mountain Lion.
The suggestion that I install VLC player does play the movies but each one has to be opened individually in VLC which is a bit of a pain.
I reinstalled QT 10.2 (603) and the problem remains. QT will open MOV files, but won't play them no matter how many times I click on the play button or open/re-open the file. So far any new movie file I downlad will play, it's just anything downloaded uner previous versions of OS-X that won't work. It's really weird.

Camera .movs wont work-kodak

I just got a new expensive camera about less than a month ago, it uses .mov files. I also own a new Vista PC that keeps sending me errors. I have read the countless amounts of posts about these errors and have tried to work my way through everything I could read. Whether they're permission based or not, quicktime should work with Vista and does not. I'm left with no choice but now to return this camera and again go with something more user friendly that's PC compatible. Installed lots of Software Vista compatible and haven't any problems. Quicktime is a problem however.
I also have contacted Kodak to let them know they are selling a product to the masses that doesn't work because quicktime isn't compatible with Vista and I'm returning their camera for another brand.

If Mac can't make products to work with the PC then please, don't distribute them. IMO opinion it makes apple look bad.

Accidentally uninstalled QuickTime, Itunes wont work

I accidentally uninstalled Quick Time and now Itunes will not work. I tried re-installing Itunes and quick time but I would get an error saying old version of quick time could not be removed. I read a guide that said to remove itunes and I did and then says to remove quicktime when I try to remove quick time from program files it says: cannot delete QuickTimecheck.ocx it is being used by another person or program, please close any programs that may be using that program and try again. All I have open is this web page open and the program files containing Quicktime, Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this?

That's a web browser plug-in, so I'd try closing your web browsers too. If you still can't remove the folder, restart the PC, don't open any applications whatsoever, and then try the deletion again.
If still no luck, post back and let us know if you're still getting the same error message when you're doing the deletion, or if you're getting a different error message now.

Adobe Reader 11.0 starter ADM templates wont work

I dowloaded the ADM from http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/gpo.html and created a group policy . The group policy add registry entried in HKLM but when I launch reader they are not working:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown\cIPM
bDontShowMsgWhenViewingDoc = 1
bShowMsgAtLaunch = 0
But if I go under HKCU the values are opposite:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\IPM
bDontShowMsgWhenViewingDoc = 0
bShowMsgAtLaunch = 1
Per Adobe provided starter ADM template the registries changes under HKLM but it does not work.

Quicktime player wont work

I am not a technical person when it comes to computers but I am trying to open a .wmv file on my macbook pro that I bought last year in 2012. It wouldnt open so I clicked on the 'tell me more' option and then I downloaded the flip program (cant remember its full name). It now opens - I can see the opening shot in the .wmv movie file but when I press 'play' it does nothing. I can drag the aroow along and see any particular part - but nothing will play.
Please help!!

Is the clone it was setup from a Mac Pro of a different vintage, or another Mac? If that's the case, then copying from that clone directly is ill-advised.
1. If the Mac the clone came from is of an older age (older operating system), or different model and still an Intel Mac, using the Migration Assistant is the best tool:

Quicktime 7 wont work for windows 98...

does anyone know where i can download an older version of quicktime or an email i can use to contact these people to ask something similar. i have gone to download.com to find and older version of quicktime but cant find one.

You can get QT 6.5.2 for Windows here. That's the last version supported on Win 98.

Quicktime movies wont play properly in fcp

i am editing a animation movie on fcp. the animation is being done on 'maya', where they export it as 'avi' files. then they open these avi's in premier and export it as .mov and upload it. (the animation company is located in another city. when i edit these movies in fcp, it doesn't play properly at the cut points. what is wrong? please, can someone help?

Adobe reader XI freezes upon start up and wont work

I am running Windows 7 home premium with 64bit system and Kaperskys antivirus. Everytime I open adobe XI it freezes up and displays the thinking icon both on the mouse hover and right screen of the adobe reader. I tried installing the older adobe X as a couple discussion threads advised. The older adobe X works a couple times then does the same thing. I need the reader to read and sign docs. Does anyone know how to make it work on my comp??? Thank you!!!

Try these things for Reader XI...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself? If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
