Fast trim box info?

In preferences I can set "Always show document page size" so the PDF's full size always show in the lower left corner (without hovering the cursor there).
Nice.
But I need the trim box size some 50-100 times a day, which I can only do by selecting the crop pages-menu and picking trim box from the drop down.
Is there ANY way to have the trim box info show in a fast and available manner?
Thanks

Have you actually turned on the option for 'trim, art and bleed' boxes
under Preferences / Page Display? Not perfect as such since it does NOT
show the XY but it's maybe better than what you're used to.
Creo used to have a plug-in but many of these have not been updated to
Acrobat 7 / 8 etc.
Preflight is another option - you can even use a droplet?

  • How to quickly find size of trim box

Is the size of the trim box listed anywhere? I have been using the measure tool, but I would love to find a faster way.

  • Setting trim box bug in Acrobat Pro 7 & 8 - try it...

I have filed this bug a few times with Adobe over the past months but there doesn't seem to be any movement. I'd download the trial of Acrobat 9 Pro to check but alas us Mac users are not deemed worthy of that.
I implore anyone who can to try out the following:
    - Open up an existing PDF or create a new, blank one. Zoom out to a point where you get a good amount of "no-man's land" gray around your document.
    - Go to Document->Crop Pages... and pick "trim box" from the drop down menu.
Now start moving the right-hand constraint of the trim box using the "up" arrow widget and see what happens in the main document window. For me and the users that I support, the guide that represents the right-hand trim box constraint will start coming in from the right-most side of the document window, that is, inside the gray out-of-bounds area. In addition to the guide being in the wrong place it also doesn't get redrawn every time the right-hand margin is moved by the standard .125" step by clicking the "up" or "down" widget. As a result there will be a whole mess of black vertical guides left on the screen, obscuring the actual position of the guide regardless of whether or not it is placed on the screen in accordance to the right-hand trim box constraint setting. Similarly, the main document can be zoomed in to fit to window but the guide will still be drawn incorrectly and exhibit the same "ghosting".
All of this has remained the same between versions 8.0 and 8.1.2 of Acrobat Pro and in one of my discussions with an Adobe tech rep who was testing it on his side I was told it also exists in Acrobat Pro 7. It is an issue because the small preview window in the Crop Pages window is not very useful when working with large document dimensions that need precise trimming adjustments beyond a standard eight or quarter inch all around.
Hopefully someone else can confirm this issue while I try to find out whether Acrobat 9 still exhibits the same behavior.
    Thanks.

This has been a problem since version 8 on the mac. Acrobat 7 on the mac worked fine with the right side trim but not on the PC.
We are still having this problem with Acrobat 9.4.0 on the Mac & PC.
This has now been an issue for 2 versions of Acrobat Pro.(8 & 9)
Being in Pre Press and having to constantly set the trim for jobs, this is now taking up too much time and costing money.
    Please fix this Adobe.
and on another note. how hard would it be to display the trim (if set) next to where the page size is?
If the trim is set it should display it! why should we have to go to document/crop pages>trim.
Im in a busy Pre Press Dept and the amount of times you have to check a trim size is stupid.
I always set prefs to display crop / trim / and bleed boxes and this helps but it should display it if its set.
    Thanks
    Hope this is resolved soon.

  • Trim marks positioning incorrect for files that have a larger crop box than trim box

I've seen this question in one other place on the forum, but it doesn't look like it ever got answered. It's been driving me nuts for months, so I'm going to try to do a very simple walkthrough for this problem to find out if this is a glitch in the software, or I'm doing something wrong.
When telling Acrobat XI Pro to print a PDF with "Trim Marks," the marks are applied to the "CropBox" instead of the "TrimBox." As far as I'm concerned, this is incorrect behavior. Acrobat 9 Pro, on the other hand, applies the Trim Marks to the TrimBox. Since I receive files with bleed and need to print out a sample on the printer on a regular basis, I have found it necessary to leave Acrobat 9 installed just to print these files. I've done a very simple walkthrough on how to generate a very simple mockup file from InDesign and output it to better illustrate the problem.
I've created a new InDesign document that is 5x7 inches with 1/8" bleed. To make it easier to spot the applicable boxes in the file, I've made a box with a 1/2 point stroke. I made a magenta stroked box that's 5x7 inches to signify the trim, and a cyan stroked box that's 5.25 x 7.25 inches to signify the bleed. I then output it to a high resolution PDF. For the purposes of this example to make sure this can be replicated easily, I'm using the built-in [PDF/X-4:2008] preset to start off with. The only adjustment I'm making to this preset is going to the "Marks and Bleeds" section to check the "Use Document Bleed Settings."
When opening the resulting PDF in Acrobat XI Pro, you can see that the various "Page Boxes" have been applied properly. "CropBox" is set to 0 to include all of the artwork in the file, "BleedBox" is set to 0 since there's nothing outside of the bleed area in this pdf, and "TrimBox" is set to 0.125 in since we gave this file 1/8" bleed. When going to print the file, you can go to "Advanced" and then "Marks and Bleeds" to enable printing with the "Trim Marks." Once you click ok, you can see in the preview image that the trim marks are lining up to the cyan box instead of the magenta box.
As an extra step, it's possible to confirm that the trim marks are going to the crop box and not the bleed box or trim box. If you add a slug to your InDesign document and reoutput the pdf (being sure to include the slug area in the "Marks and Bleeds" section), you will find that the Trim Marks are even further outside of the cyan box. If you output your PDF from InDesign with Trim Marks already applied, you can turn on the Trim Marks option when going to print in Acrobat to see that Acrobat's Trim Marks are going outside of the crop box as well instead of overlapping the ones generated by InDesign.
Is there any fix for this behavior aside from opening the files in Acrobat 9 and printing from there instead?

yes, in the pure definition of the word in the world of print, Crop DOES equal trim...in the exact concept of what YOU see it as.
in Adobe's little bubble, they decided to call the outer box the "Crop" so that they could differentiate between trim and crop in the page box model.
These pictures should help, if not, I'm not going to continue to explain something that you don't want to grasp.
Each picture shows what Acrobat is calling each page box line.  since they felt the need to call one trim and one crop, you have to widen your concept of what Adobe is defining "crop" as.  Not saying its right, but it is what they are doing, and what is causing the whole issue.
All that aside, if you are not understanding the page box model, then your PDFs are probably not set up this way, so you probably wouldn't even notice the change... So why are you posting on this thread?

  • Acrobat 9.5 Pro now FAILS to detect page size differences if the Trim Box is set

Previous versions of Acrobat and even of Acrobat 9.x would flag pages whose "size or orientation is different" if the actual media box size was different from page to page. However, it seems that 9.5 now will not flag a document that has pages without a trim box whose media box matches pages with a trim box that are larger.
This is completely counter-intuitive, as these pages would print at different sizes. Not all devices use the trim box setting in a PDF.
Can someone explain what changed in Acrobat between then and now and if there is a way to change it back?
    Thank you.

    1) Opened PDF where most of the pages have all page boxes set to zero, with media box (true page size) set to 6" x 9". One subset of pages has a media box of 6.25" x 9.25", but the trim box is set to 0.125" on all sides.
    2) Ran a preflight profile with the option "Page size or orientation differs from page to page" set to "Error", as it has been on all previous versions of Acrobat.
    3) "Page size or orientation differs from page to page" error does not get triggered.
    4) Tried same preflight profile settings on same PDF in Acrobat 7. Error does get triggered.
    5) Tried same preflight profile settings on same PDF on a copy of Acrobat 9 not fully updated to 9.5. Error does get triggered.
    6) Tried on various machines with 9.5 update. Error does not get triggered on any.
I can only conclude that something has changed in the latest update.

  • Displaying trim box size with Acrobat Reader

I am looking for a way to have Acrobat Reader display Trim Box size. We have many Customer Service Reps and Sales people who receive PDFs from clients and cannot tell what the Trim Box size is except for asking me. I have Acrobat Pro and can easily find the information, but I am tired of being constantly asked. It does not make sense for all them to have Acrobat Pro.  Any help is appreciated.

You need to Reader-enable the document, which allows Reader to do things it normally cannot. In Acrobat 9, you'd select: Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader
In Acrobat 8 it's something different but very similar. Note that some people have reported problems when trying to use an enabled document in a different version of Reader than the version of Acrobat that was used to enable the document.

I backed up my phone and now all of my lock box info and music is gone

To fix this go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and do one of the following:
Either uncheck the email address shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at" on both phones; or
Because you are both using the same Apple ID for iMessage. To prevent this, on one of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the Apple ID, sign out, then sign in with a different Apple ID.  Note: you can continue to share an Apple ID for purchasing; it does not need to be the same as the ID you use for iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud and other services.
Also, to prevent merging your calendars and contacts if you are syncing these to the same iCloud account, be sure to set up separate iCloud accounts on each phone with separated IDs.

  • Printing Trim box

    Hi,
Is it possible to print out a pdf file with the trim box showing? Bascialy creating a ruled page as such
    With thanks

Assuming that what you mean is that you want to have a physical representation of the trim box, no, unless you put such content in your PDF file explicitly, there is no way other than trim marks at the edges to print a physical representation of the trim box.

  • How to crop to trim box

I have dozens of multiple page PDF documents with bleed and slug information. I'm looking to create a duplicate set of these documents that are all cropped down to the trim dimensions. I'm guessing there must be a better method than using the crop tool and manually drawing the box, but I have not figure it out yet. Any suggestions?

    Ahh... okay. Now I understand.
From the file menu: view > tools > print production
    Then select: "Set Page Boxes"
Look at what the "Margin Controls" are for "TrimBox" (in the drop down menu).
Then apply those same settings to the "CropBox" in the same drop down.
    In "Page Range" select "All"
    Then click OK.
All the bleed information is still there, but that's okay in my case.
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • Crop page based on trim box not working

    Hi everyone,
I have a 1-page file created in Illustrator. I exported this file to pdf and have applied trim marks. Back in Acrobat Pro, I go into the crop pages dialogue box and choose "trimbox". When I do this, 11.642 mm is automatically inserted into the margin fields for all 4 sides. When I click OK, I expected the file to be trimmed to A4 (210 x 297) but no change occurred in the file.
I wondered if anyone knows why this has happened or what I'm doing wrong?
    Appreciate any help.

you need to tell Acrobat the measurement:
click on trim: copy the measurement in the margin control
click crop, check the constrain proportions box and paste trim measurement
    click ok

  • Why does text box info get cut off in certificate

I am using Captivate 7.  When a student enters his name and pharmacy license number in the field is is ok, but when it is reproduced in the certificate (and the name also in the "Hello NAME welcome to the program") it cuts off the name if it is too long and won't print all of the license info if there is more than one license (it prints some of the second) .... it's like cutting it off becuase there are too many letters or numbers.
I have the correct field for the certificate, for instance $$cpQuizInfoStudentName$$  and $$v_custom4$$  .... it pulls the info in from the field, but cuts it off.
Any ideas?   HELP.   I am pulling what little hair is left on my head out!
    Thanks.

    Hi,
It sounds like you have authored a drop-down field that looks something like this in the Design view:
As you know, the fillable form cannot display this multi-line choice label.
Unfortunately, there's no way to correct this issue other than reducing the amount of text in the choice label or somehow creating enough space in the form to accommodate the text on a single line. For example:
    - reduce the amount of space allocated for the label text
    - reduce the text size of the drop-down field
      - increase the form width, then increase the width of the drop-down control
I will log a bug against the authoring application for this issue. The current behavior is misleading.
    Thanks for the feedback.

  • Reading Camera Focus Box info in Bridge CS5?

    Hi, folks.
Does anyone know whether or not it's possible to set up Bridge to read and display the focus point info from my camera?  That is, when I take a shot and view it on the camera's LCD I can see the red focus square designating the point of focus.  Can this information somehow be transmitted to Bridge in the metadata?
    Thanks!
    -Greg

Not to tell you how to take a picture, but you might want to investigate what criteria Cannon uses to determine where it focuses when set to "auto-choose".  In cases where the subject matter may be less obvious that the background, it may not focus where you don't want it to.   In my case taking a picture of a small bird in a tree with lots of branches close by.  In those cases you need an alternate focusing method that you can switch to.
I like the spot focus method as it puts me in control.
Auto this and that is great in many cases, but don't overlook the computer you have in your head.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something. Exactly what are you trying to use with dynamic trimming that works only sometime? As far as I know nothing is affected by this option in the Canvas only... It's my understanding that it only works with the Trim Edit window, and doesn't affect behavior in the Canvas...

  • Crop to trim: Page size may not be reduced ERROR

I have a client wanting the complete back catalogue of his journal's hi-res PDFs supplied but without the trim marks, printer's info and bleed. This ought to be easy enough - Acrobat will trim a PDF for me and I can automate the process. Except that it won't. I go Documents > Crop Pages... and set all the options for cropping to  the Trim Box, but nothing happens. If I try putting in the page size measurements manually, I get the error message 'Page size cannot be reduced'. Seeing as I've arrived via the Crop Pages option on the document menu I can't think I'm in the wrong place. Why won't Acrobat crop my pages?
I'm on Acrobat Pro 9 fully up to date on OS X 10.6.7
