Fasted way to convert videos from iMovie HD for Windows?

Hello,
I want to dub MiniDV films with iMovie HD 6.0.3 (OS X 10.4.11) for editing under Windows, e.g. with Movie Maker and/or VirtualDub.
I opened the iMovie package and converted the (native) DV files with Adobe Media Converter (Windows) into DV AVI (PAL DV) -- now I can open this film with on of the above mentioned programs.
Question: is there a shorter way to prepare the movies from iMovie/Mac for Windows?

My plan was to make the dubbing on my second PC -- a Mac...
I don't want to interrupt my work on my PC (und because of the larger storage on my Mac).
But now I did it in my mentioned way: copying the DV files of iMovie to Windows, converting them with Adobe Media Encoder into DV PAL).

I recently got a new iPhone, and after restoring all my stuff from my old iPhone via the iTunes restore thing, I had to put all my music on manually, instead of it being restored.

MPEG4 video from imovie is sluggish and audio out of sync

Hi y'all,
I am new to this. So I need some hand holding here. I am working with video that was exported in MPEG4 video from imovie on a mac.
The Camera I used is a Sony FX7 HD camera with SD tape.
So Now I am trying to edit the video using Premiere Pro CS3 creative suite.
Import into CS3 is fine. Playing the imported video in the source monitor is fine as well. All looks well.
However, here are the challenges I am having:
1. When I try to play it in the Program monitor its very sluggish. Audio plays fine but picture lags behind.
2. And once I edit the the video and try to export it as flash video or as a windows media, the video and audio are out of sync.
The video is choppy as well.
Details: source video is 720x480 and trying to export to 320x240
My project details are:
DV-NTSC standard 48khz
Video is 10 min long

OK, not my choice of workflows, but... I assume that the MP4's are H.264 encoded. There are many of these. Three common ones are Lead, MainConcept and Apple. Some find that one works better than the others. These are not the ONLY versions, but are common. You might want to explore others, depending on which one you have installed. G-Spot can tell you which you have.
Next, you can Render your Timeline, to get things as smooth as possible.
Note that the MP4 files are heavily compressed already. Quality has been lost, and there is nothing that can be done about that. When you Export to, say DVD, you will recompress that material, and loose even more.
In the future, have your Mac-person do the Capture to .MOV [Animation CODEC]. Or, do it yourself to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio.
Not sure of any other ways to get the MP4's playing more smoothly. Much will depend on both your CPU and on your system's I/O sub-system, i.e. your HDD's, their size, speed, controller type and how they are utilized.

I have a slow workflow in iMovie at the moment. I have only 1 project (having cleaned out to isolate the issue). But many videos in iPhoto. That are not needed for iMovie. They're just clips from my phone. Is there a way that I can permanently d-link iPhoto videos from iMovies event library? Without moving the iPhoto library or iMovie projects and Events to another location? I want to use iPhoto in just the same way as I am, and iMovie too, but without the 2 slowing each other down!
I have rejected all of the clips. This has not worked. Moving rejected to trash doesn't seem to work either. Either does nothing or crashes.
This link discusses the issue in earlier versions. Have we a solution yet?

If i absolutely need iMovie to run 'like a pro app', can I just temporarily rename the iPhoto library, and then run iMovie. Then revert when I have finished. Will this cause further problems?
I have trashed preferences and caches.

I dont have an answer, but at least your not alone. I am having what sounds like the same exact problem. I have tried shifting more memory ect w/o success.

Finished with STP sound track, now what (video from iMovie)?

I shot a wedding and am making a video from the footage for the happy couple. I used STP instead of iMovie's audio capabilities because iMovie is too limited. Unfortunately I don't have Final Cut...I understand STP and FC are designed to work hand in hand.
At any rate, when I was done editing in iMovie, I exported it a file and imported that file into STP. The only audio from the iMovie export is directly from the video cameras being used. Now that I have my final mix in STP, I want to find out if there's a way to replace the audio from the iMovie export with the audio from the STP mix. I don't see that STP has a way to export both audio and video together.
The only workaround I can think of is going back into iMovie, muting all the audio and dropping the mix from STP in its place. That's fine, but I'll have to go thru the entire iMovie export again, and that takes about 4 hours. I'd rather just swap the audio portion of the exported video.

well you actually know what to do in a way that's "proper." What you're looking for is a work around. You can also see the difference between pro versus consumer in applications. Now I'm going to assume that you exported as a MOV file out of iMovie. Forgive me but I've never done anything in iMovie. If you you can open the MOV in Quicktime, change the audio tracks to the new ones and then save what you have. If you had a decent DVD authoring package you'd simply export out of STP as an AC3 file and import that as the DVD audio track and the video as an M2V track, or even a MOV with no audio. The separate audio and video tracks are married in the DVD.

iMovie works best with uncompressed audio. If your track is MP3 or AAC, you may get better results by converting your track to the AIFF format and then using that in iMovie.
You can do this in iTunes. Go to iTunes/Preferences and click the General button. On the General page, click the Import Settings button. Choose IMPORT USING: AIFF ENCODER.
(note: remember what you changed it from so you can change it back later, before you import another CD)
Now, in iTunes, select your track. Then click FILE/CREATE NEW VERSION/AIFF VERSION.

Why does my exported video from iMovie on iOS is letter boxed on all four sides?

The original video viewed in the cameras roll fills up the whole screen, but after exporting the edited video from iMovie, it has letter boxing on all four sides.

You would get better results if you convert the MP4 ciips into Apple Intermediate Codec before editing. After editing you can render them back into MP4 if you want.
MPEG Streamclip (free) will do this conversion. Or get iMovie 09 and it will do it.

You should be able to get the important details of the iMovie video by telling us the export settings that you used for the iMovie export.

Exported a 3 minute video from iMovie to Quicktime, saved on my desktop. It started saving as INDIVIDUAL files, as in about 5400! Entire system froze, completely unresponsive. Powered off 3 times now, it comes on and displays my screen saver but nothing

Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
You may now be able to log in and move the files off the Desktop. Then reboot as usual.

Imovie 11 version 9.0.7
New Sony hd camcorder model HDR560V, 64 gigs of internal flash memory, recording at highest quality hd settings.
Transfer is via USB.
Video in camcorder screen is perfect, same video connected directly from camera to a monitor is perfect. Also seems to be ok when importing into a Mac Book pro.
Import into the iMac using iMovie 11and played back full screen on the iMac has the look of soft VHS tape, not tack sharp and pronounced video lag when panning or when a subject moves across the screen. Has anyone else resolved a similar issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I paid for 3 years of Apple protection care but Genius bar experts at local Apple store are stumped.

I'm sorry, I didn't know Imovie has it's own Forum- it's not listed here. Looks like I need an adapter for memory card, because I have an older Mac which doesn't have a slot for the card.

Converting video files to mp4 for nano 3rd gen

I'm trying to find a quick, easy, hassle free way of converting video files such as mpg and avi to mp4 so that i can watch them on my new ipod nano.
Anyone got any suggestions and ideas?

Thanks for all the advice! I do have MPEG Streamclip and I'd thought about it, but have not really used it all that much. I didn't spend a whole lot of time looking at it but just did now and see that you convert to Quicktime and in there, you select Apple MPEG-4 and do all your adjustments. Now my version says that it will convert to H264. Does that function not work right?
The bottom line though is I ended up returning the Video iPod. The biggest drawback is the fact that it does not have Firewire as all I have are Macs with USB 1.1. I could upgrade my Blue & White G3 and put a USB 2.0 card in it but that machine would be REAL slow to convert video. And my iMac of course, can't be upgraded. If I had USB 2.0 or the iPod had Firewire, I would have kept it....
Still, I'll mess with the conversion programs and see what works best. I'll figure out how to do everything and then once I'm up to speed, maybe consider getting one.
