Faster, better loading ...

I am trying to establish where (if any) the problems are with this site.
http://ardswe.com
Please post back any problems you have with the site, and I will compile a list of problem areas that we can avoid, making all our sites load better and faster on Macs and PCs.
TIA

I clicked on your link below and on my macbook pro, it was super fast - really awesome site. I just made the transition to mac, so I still have my pc laptop next to me so I tried it on that using IE, and it was just a tiny bit slower, but nothing to be concerned about at all. I did notice that none of the pictures in the "Illustration" page are clickable - did you set it up like that?
I actually posted in here a few days ago about speed and my site as well. I created mine in iweb and used Fetch to upload to Yahoo server. I think doing this somehow slows it down, b/c the .mac website seemed to load faster than my yahoo site. I just didn't want to get involved with domain forwarding/masking (not too familiar with that), but I think that's what you have done with yours, correct?
I'm also wondering about the templates and the little frames/shadows too. Do you think it matters which 'frame' you select...ya know how there's just plain white borders, ones that look like ripped pages, etc, and one that seems to have no frame at all? On my pages I use the one that looks like torn paper and was thinking of changing them all over to the frameless border if that will increase the speed.
I guess it's pretty much trial and error.
But, anyway - great site, and I don't think you have to worry about speed for yours. If you want to see a slow site - check out mine: www.lexiejewel.com
Mine seems to run pretty well on macs but on pcs's it's much slower. UGHHH!!!!

  • What are the better load/performance testing tools available for Flex Application with BlazeDS RO?

    In my application is designed with Flex3, ActionScript3, BlazeDS Remote Objects.
    Just i tried with OPENSTA but i cant do the dynamic parameterization in their generated scripts because the response of the calls is binary values and also we cant get the response using with SCL language.
    While testing with OPENSTA with HttpService, i can do the dynamic parameterization and got the response.
    can give the information about the below questions
    whether we can do dynamic parameterization with OPENSTA for Flex Remote objects?
    and  what are the better load/performance tools available for Flex Remote Objects?

    Your approach is fine, depending on how many and what type of CFCs you are talking about. If they are "singletons" - that is, only one instance of each CFC is needed to be in memory and can be reused/shared from multiple parts of your application - caching them in the application scope is common.  Just make sure they are thread safe ("var" or local.* all your method variables).
    You might consider taking advantage of a dependency injection framework, such as DI/1 (part of the FW/1 MVC framework), ColdSpring, or WireBox (a module of the ColdBox platform that can be used independently).  They have mechanisms for handling and caching singletons.  Then you wouldn't have to go to the application scope to get your CFC instances.

  • Is a hardware upgrade going to make FCE faster/better?

    I just upgraded to FCE 4.0.1 from 3.5HD. FCE is resident on my hard drive while the files are on the G-Raid linked by firewire (not USB).
    Will upgrading RAM to 4 GB make FCE run faster/better or allow more programs to run in the background without crashing everything? How about replacing current hard drive with a 7200 rpm and 16 meg cache?
    Any other suggestions for improving this machine rather than trading up?
    Thanks

    The main difference you will notice will be the extra apps you can have open. Don't expect too much in the way of an FCE speed increase.
    Shut down those unnecessary apps as Les said.

  • 2.1 Update:  Faster, Better, Clearer

    I'm sorry to see that some of you are having issues with your phone following the 2.1 OS update. I have to say that I really wasn't having many issues before but now, with 2.1, I'm getting five bars and reception seems better. I'm not sure yet about dropped calls (really haven't made too many calls yet) but the email and other apps are faster.
    The update itself was relatively fast (took about 9 mins to download and another 5 or 6 to load to the phone) and I had no issues with loss of apps or data.
    Count this as a vote in favor of 2.1

    Agreed.
    Update went fine and doesn't appear to have lost any data. A couple of pointers I picked up from earlier updaters is having to soft reset after completion to get 3G active again and for those with Outlook synced, I had to turn off and on mail, calendar, and contacts to re-sync.

  • Help with computer setup and PP settings for faster/better previews

    I have been using Cyberlink PowerDirector software for video editing.  It is very easy to use and can do quite a bit.  It was also accelerated by Intel HD graphics built into my system, so I could see a lot of my work at a pretty high resolution in real time.
    However, I wanted to see what PP was capable of, specifically the Warp Stabilizer.
    So I downloaded PP and have been trying to use it, but it was just slow as heck to preview anything (chop stop chop stop...), with render times being insanely long (12 hours for five minutes of footage vs. about 30 minutes with PowerDirector).
    Thinking it was a problem with my system and I needed to get a real graphics card, I got an EVGA GTX 670 (FTW) for $400, and popped it in.  I modified the text file so PP would see it as a compatible card, opened up PP and changed the engine to the new card.
    Things are faster, but I was expecting a lot more.  Here's what I'm doing:
    1. Shooting Canon 5D mark II (now III) clips 20-60 seconds long, 1080p.
    2. Import to PP and sequence them.
    3. Adding effects:
         A. Top adjustment layer for fast color correction (white balance)
         B. Next adjustment layer: 3-way color, shadow/highlight, unsharp mask, fast blur
         C. Video 1 layer has the clips with warp stabilizer applied to each, and dissolves.
    My final output will be 720p.  ( I shoot 1080p so the Warp Stabilizer will have more to work with, and I can crop without feeling like I'm degrading quality).
    My system: i7 2600k, 16GB RAM, GTX 670 graphics, 120GB SSD "Max IOPS", 2TB 7200rpm internal, 2TB 7200rpm external (USB 2.0, backup drive).
    I can currently preview at 1/4 res in realtime.  I would really like to be able to get to 1/2 res (of course full would be great).  One thing that worries me is that GPU-Z indicates that my GPU is only running at about 2% while previewing, while CPU usage is at around 50%.  I was under the impression that the Mercury thing would use GPU/CUDA to process previews and effects that are supported (that includes Warp Stabilizer).
    I've looked at Sequence Settings and fiddled with Preview File Format and size, but that doesn't seem to do anything.  I'm currently looking around at codecs (Cineform, DNxHD), but don't know if those can help.
    What settings should I alter to get better previews?

    Well I'm still pretty clueless about this, but for anyone who is looking at this and wondering, here's what I've gleaned:
    1.  After Effects, especially CS6, makes much more and better use of graphics cards than does Premiere Pro.  I'm guessing that PP will, in future versions, make better use of them.  For now, no need to spend more than a couple hundred bucks on one.
    2.  Update the software.  PP and AE both performed substantially better after installing the .01 update from adobe.  After you install the update, be sure to re-do the CUDA hack, if necessary.
    3.  As it stands, money for a PP system is best spent on a processor, as in the newest Intel (currently Ivy Bridge), and overclocked.  This is where performance happens.  I'd say on a 2012 system, 16 GB RAM should be considered a minimum for video editing, and 24 or 32 if you can afford it.  More than that probably won't be utilized.  Hard disks can affect performance, but I don't think it's a bottleneck unless you're doing something that requires VERY fast/large reads and writes (4k source?).  Most people who have high-end editing stations also have a bunch of drives in RAID, but if you look at the performance chart, the SECOND highest scoring tester did not use RAID (though did use a presumably fast and large SSD).
    Keep in mind that all of this has to do with RENDER speeds.  I still don't know what the bottleneck is for PREVIEWS, but I'm just going to assume it's the same.

  • Faster Page Loading

    After getting my web page published I had some friends who do web design look at it and they said it loaded slow and the pics were a bit too large, which they thought was slowing it down.
    After talking to some helpful souls here on the Apple Discussion groups, I can see where their sites loaded faster because they used an external web program to design their site. Well, I'm not near so advanced and just learning iWeb.
    How can I get my site to load faster? Re-do all the pics. using ones I have reduced in size before importing?
    Also, is there a way to get rid of the album names that are at the top of each page? Ideally I'd keep a welcome page, then go to a photo intro page where I could have small thumbnails of each pic and have that pic link to the album.
    But there is no reason to do a photo intro page with links if I can't get rid of all the albums listed at the top of each page. They automatically link the name to the next album.
    Here is my first attemp at our family web page:

    Thanks for any input.

    Allie
    I have about 200 pages and 3 Gb of space used up, altering things at this stage is a major headache, so my first tip would be plan your site well.
    I started by creating a site called say 'main', in that site I created my main pages that appear in the nav bar (welcome, photos, movies etc).
    Taking the example of my photos, I created a second site called photosS in to which I created all the pages that load when you choose any of the links in the photo page ( ie photos00-02, photos03-05 etc) I turned off the nav bar in this site
    Then I created a third site called photos00-02 and a fourth site called photos03-05 and so on. In each of these sites I created pages for each photo album associated with that grouping all with the nav bar off.
    I elected to create images and links within the site to navigate, rather than rely on the nav bar (ie return to all photos)
    You create your links through the inspector pallette
    So if I've been reasonably clear you will see:- from my photo page, if you select archives/00-02 you are taken to that page (which lists all my photo albums from 00-02) which resides in the site photosS, if you choose 'my birthday 01' you are taken to that photo album page which resides in the site photos00-02
    make sure all your site and page names are unique and don't contain spaces, there are instances when you get away with not doing, but it's easier to just avoid doing so all together.
    Yes I started with a blank page, well I essentially stripped everything out of a template. Some text boxes won't delete, but the text will.
    Hope this helps, hope you can read and understand what I've said, my eyes don't work so well at this time of night and I can't read much of what I have written.

  • Need faster data loading (using sql-loader)

    i am trying to load approx. 230 million records (around 60-bytes per record) from a flat file into a single table. i have tried sql-loader (conventional load) and i'm seeing performance degrade as the file is being processed. i am avoiding direct path sql-loading because i need to maintain uniqueness using my primary key index during the load. so the degradation of the load performance doesn't shock me. the source data file contains duplicate records and may contain records that are duplicates of those that are already in the table (i am appending during sql-loader).
    my other option is to unload the entire table to a flat file, concatenate the new file onto it, run it through a unique sort, and then direct-path load it.
    has anyone had a similar experience? any cool solutions available that are quick?
    thanks,
    jeff

    It would be faster to suck into a Oracle table, call it a temporary table and then make a final move into the final table.
    This way you could direct load into an oracle table then you could
    INSERT /*+ APPEND */ INTO Final_Table
        SELECT DISTINCT *
        FROM   Temp_Table
        ORDER BY ID;This would do a 'direct load' type move from your temp teable to the final table, which automatically merging the duplicate records;
    So
    1) Direct Load from SQL*Loader into temp table.
    2) Place index (non-unique) on temp table column ID.
    3) Direct load INSERT into the final table.
    Step 2 may make this process faster or slower, only testing will tell.
    Good Luck,

  • Is it faster to load several separate buttons, or one Nav?

    I'm working on a flash navigation for my site in development. I finished one of my buttons, I originally wanted to have each button as a separate flash object so if I wanted to change the name or what it looked like I could just swap it out rather then having to edit the .fla file. I'm using graphics I made in Photoshop for the button's bg. Also, each button has a sound on mouse-over.
    I'm planning to have five buttons in total. One button is 10KB on the compression settings that I am happy with. Would it be faster for the page loading time though if I combined all the buttons into one flash object consisting of five separate frames?
    Thanks!

    I'm not sure what you mean by independent folders.  You can always organize your Layers to have Layer folders but that is simply to organize the Layers and to collapse them to save real estate when necessary and expand them to see detail when necessary.  It won't make a difference how you structure your FLA because all of your buttons will be embedded in your Library in the single SWF at runtime.  So I guess you would still have all of the buttons externalized in the single SWF?  As opposed to embedding them in your master Site SWF?  Then you can use the load() method to load your buttons.swf file into your master.swf file .  You still might run the risk of your server not responding well to the load() method at times and failing to load your nav buttons as opposed to if you had them embedded in your master swf.  But if you have a reliable server and no bottleneck on your site then you could externalize all of your buttons.  One cool thing is to have your graphical appearance of your buttons embedded into your master.swf file and your button labels externalized into an XML file that is basically like a text HTML file that can be changed and updated using a simple text editor and you would never have to reauthor the FLA file to make changes.  You might even be able to format the font appearance but I'm not entirely sure since I'm still new to using XML to format content.  But I do know that XML can be used to change the content of the text such as what the text actually says.  You would externalize this .xml file the same way you would externalize an .AS actionscript file which would contain packages and classes as opposed to having your actionscript on Frame 1 of your FLA.

  • Slow browsing. WTF? Beta 7 was fast, beta 8 sucks.

    I updated to Firefox 4 beta 7 and it was blazing fast, really fast. Upgraded to the beta 8 and if I open more than two tabs, it crashes and stops working. WTF? I uninstalled the firefox 4 and went back to the latest version of 3. No problem now.

    Did you create a new profile for the Firefox 4 beta version?
    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br />
    See [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile]]
    If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

  • CRVS2010 Beta - Load report failed

    Hello,
    I have been trying out Beta 2 and aside from the massive runtime installation package it is looking pretty good. Looking forward to the production release
    In addition to my testing I've also got a couple end users piloting the upcoming release of my software.  Occasionally they will receive the error message below.  It generally happens after many reports have been either previewed or printed. Once the error occurs they must close my software and restart it.  My software has the crystal reports embedded in the executable.  So its not like the file cannot be found
    Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. If required I can post the code that is loading the report.

    Hi Tim,
    Just add the all or most of the CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.* assemblies and now you are using InProc RAS. No need to connect to BOE, but with a few lines of code change it's easy enough to do.
    As for samples take any of them, just remove the references to Enterprise and change your open method. Here's my sample app open report dialog box and code:
    In the System load use these lines for either, not both:
        public class frmMain : System.Windows.Forms.Form
            CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument rpt = new CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument();
            ISCDReportClientDocument rptClientDoc;
    Then when opening the report from a dialog box:
              private void btnOpenReport_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
                   rptClientDoc = new ReportClientDocumentClass();
              if (openFileDialog.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK)
                        btnOpenReport.Enabled = false;
                        btnSaveRptAs.Enabled = false;
                        object rptName = openFileDialog.FileName;
                                    rpt.Load(rptName.ToString());
                                    rptClientDoc = rpt.ReportClientDocument;
                        MessageBox.Show("Report opened.","RAS",MessageBoxButtons.OK,MessageBoxIcon.Information );
                        btnOpenReport.Enabled = true;
                        btnSaveRptAs.Enabled = true;
    There are multiple ways to do everything but RAS is the replacement for the RDC and Report Creation API's.
    Then just preview as you normally would specifying which report object to use:
                crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = rpt; // for inproc
    Thanks again
    Don

  • Hmm...Disable Javascript = fast page loads, but...

    ...it kills the "Full Text Editor" from loading. And since the link for composing a message in HTML  is wrapped in the Javascripted F.T.E., I can't access it, either.
    I just had the fleeting idea to try disabling Java, and then Javascript (and then both) in my browser (Firefox 3.0.x on Mac OS X 10.4.11) to see what would happen.
    SUMMON-A-MITCH!!! The pages load almost as fast as they used to in the WebX forums.
    Too bad it kills my ability to also participate.

    Phos±,
    Is it possible to read the web pages and participate only by posting through email?  Just thinking out loud…

  • I need faster page loads

    Does anyone know how to make pages load faster? My page loads
    incrementally at the moment. The only images on my home page are
    .gifs so I'm wondering why it still comes in choppy when the files

    Just because an image is a GIF doesn't mean it is also
    small....

    Hi,
    Can anybody help us to decide which LKMs and IKMs are best for data loading between MSSQL and Oracle.
    Staging Area is Oracle. We have to load around 400Million rows from MSSQL to Oracle 11g.

  • Server hard drive speeds - Is faster better?

    SSD for the "data", aka the SQL DB. Spinning 10k for the OS in RAID 1 is fine.

    Paksher_Help_Desk wrote:We can find less expensive drives on Amazon for the RAID 10, but they are 15K, not 10K. Is there any reason why I wouldn't want to buy the faster speed drives? Do we need the slower speed drives for the RAID 10 drives? What's the logic between the two different speeds when combining RAIDs? What about solid state drives? Is anyone using these in servers at this time?
    Make sure you are looking at Enterprise drives - that's one of the big reasons for price differences. Consumer grade drives are cheaper for a reason.
    No, you don't need slower or faster for RAID10 - it's your choice. The logic they were using - RAID 10 combines 4 drives for your total IOPS while RAID 1 only has two. The combined 4 will be faster, even though the individual drives are slower, so they were trying to save you some money.
    SSD is absolutely...
