Faster refresh after going to sleep...

does anybody know how to make the macbookpro comeback to life faster? by this i mean when i leave it alone for awhile the screen goes black... i click or move the mouse and click the track pad on the built in tracking thingy... and even hit the space bar... but it takes at least a minute maybe longer before the screen comes on? while the little light beside the open lid latch pulses...
any help would be appreciated.

thanks ned,
but i'm not going to create any other accts. i've had enough trouble with permissions and other stuff... apple is as bad as windows in that respect.
there should be some simple way to increase or decrease the sleep time...?
any apple tech out there?

My new Mac Air continues to disconnect from WiFi after going to sleep.  When waking it up I have to manually re-connect.  How do I keep it connected?

I had this problem too and solved it by doing a clean install. After that it was gone.
This is a drastic method since it takes quite some time to reinstall lion and all your software.
Thoughts I had why it started working after a clean install are the following:
It looked like the airport wasn't able to reconnect fast enough before the connection timed out. So what could have prevented my mac from being able to connect fast enough?
Apps that consume processor cycles. I love what I would call 'System Enhancers', little apps that enhance my workflow (Moom, Alfred, Dropbox, Default Folder etc). I'm not saying that these are the problem, they might be programmed processor friendly, but check if you have apps that consume processor cylcles. It might prevent airport from being able to reconnect quickly enough before it times out.
Mobile Config profiles. Another thought I had was that I had a mobile config 802.1X profile installed for the company were I worked. It used TTLS to connect to the corporate network. This profile might have gotten in the way.
    And a sidenote...
Routers with hardware acceleration might also be a problem. My router is a Wireless Gigabit Router 300N WL-351 and has hardware acceleration. As soon as I activate that my wifi connection keeps dropping. It is as if a Macbook Air can't handle that amount of optimisation.
That's it, hope it helps those who are still having the problem.

  • Power Mac G4 loses internet connection after going to sleep

Run down of computer: I have a Power Mac G4 tower, PANTHER OSX. I have wireless internet through our cable company—I use a wireless router. When I am connected to the internet, and browsing the web or something, if I let the computer go to sleep, it loses connection. I have to go back up to the little signal icon and reconnect to my wireless network.
I suspected it might be a setting through the router, but when my computer was comletely unplugged, and absent from the apartment, the other computer (G5 imac–TIGER) which was having the same problem, suddenly was staying connected even after going to sleep. When my computer came back home and was hooked back up, suddenly the other computer had the same problem again. So, I concluded that my G4 tower was the culprit, and perhaps not the router. We share a wirless network, so it's not surprising that this is the case.
I know there must be a setting somewhere in preferences or something that is telling the computer to disconnect from network when computer sleeps. I have looked everywhere, and can not figure it out.
It's really annoying to have to reconnect each time I use my computer. And just to reiterate, I get internet through a cable modem using my airport card, so please answer the question with this in mind as settings are totally different from dial-up. I do not use PPP.
Anyone experience this problem? Or know how to help?

    Tried that too! Notta.
This one's really a pickle! Even the Mac specialist at my office was baffled! He suggested shortening the name of my computer...(Jamie Cendroski's computer)...I didn't really understand how this had anything to do with it...but he's supposed to be the expert. He also suggested trashing my keychains and making new ones. I messed around with them, but I don't know enough about this stuff to be bold enough to trash them yet. I'll do a little more research before I do so. I think he might be onto something with the keychains though..?

  • Mac won't re-start after going to sleep

Since installing a new version of FaxstfPro (version 10.7), my MAC won't re-start after going to sleep. I have to re-boot to get the system started again.
Thanks for any ideas on how to re-store the sleep fucntion.

Thanks for the excellent tip. From reading the bluetooth advisories, I realized that my D-link was incorrectly installed in a UBS hub. Moving it to a direct UBS port resolved the problem.
During the trouble shooting process, I found that I do not have a Bluetooth setup assistant. I have recently installed OS X 10.4.6 and also applied the Bluetooth firmware update, but I can not find the Bluetooth setup assistant in Utilites, and a search via Finder didn't locate it either. And I can't find the software in the .Mac downloads.
Any suggestions on how to restore the assistant?

  • HP Envy shutting down after going into sleep mode

Hi.  I'm not sure where to post this so I'll try it here.
My laptop shut downs automatically when it goes into sleep mode.  Not right away when going into sleep mode.  Maybe like an hour later after going into sleep mode.
I'm not sure it's overheating because it never shuts down while I'm actually using the laptop.
Do you guy have any idea how to fix this?

    Hey Tecmo_SB_Guy,
I would suggest you take a look at advanced power settings. It can seem like the notebook is turning off when it is actually just hibernating. You can set it to not hibernate.
    1. Windows key + Q to open the Search Bar
    2. Type "power"
    3. Click Settings under the Search Bar
    4. Select Power Options from the results on the left.
    5. In Power Options, Click Change when the computer sleeps, on the left.
    6. Set the Put the computer to sleep setting so that it fits your usage best.
    7. Click Change advanced power settings, at the bottom.
    8. Expand Sleep and expand Hibernate after. If you want you can change the hibernation setting to Never by typing "Never" into the minutes field. See attached picture. You can do this for battery and/or plugged in.
    9. Click Apply to save changes.
If you don't already shut it down periodically, I would suggest shutting it down at least 2-3 times a week if you use it daily. Leaving the computer running continuously can shorten its lifespan. Hard drive failures and motherboard issues are seen much more often on machines that are left running constantly. Computers get bogged down and run slowly when the memory is full. Memory only clears out and resets itself when the computer is shut down. Here is a link explaining more about memory accumulation and hardware aging.
I hope these suggestions help! Please let me know if you have any questions

  • ThinkPad T420i won't wake up after going to sleep.

My T420i won't wake up after going to sleep (using Fn F4 or close the laptop or time out).  The computer was wiped clean and reinstalled with only Windows 7 professional and some Levono softwares.  BIOS, windows and all drivers are up to date.  The only way to get it back is hold the power button to reboot it.  When it reboots, i get improperly windows shut down error.

I'd guess it's ACPI related issue. Check out ACPI driver and correspondent items in Control panel.
Energy report might be helpful too ("powercfg -energy" command within console window with administrator rights)

  • Network Desktop needs to be refreshed after waking from sleep mode

My network is running Win 7 32bit SP1,
All users have their documents and desktop saved on the network.
I'm testing two computers for a new sleep mode policy, and I've noticed that after waking up from sleep outlook will be disconnected and/or require the user credentials again. I seemed to have fixed this by not allowing the computer to turn off the NIC when
going to sleep. However, on the other test machine the desktop icons are gone when waking up from a long sleep (I haven't been able to pinpoint a specific time frame but it has happened after only three or four hours of sleep), if I refresh the desktop the
icons pop up right away. If I start sleep mode manually and wait thirty minutes or so everything is still there.
There are a few different models throughout our network so I want to make sure I have a good policy set to cover any possible nuances. The test machine that this is happening on is a Dell Optiplex 3010.
Also, does anyone know how long it would take the NIC to shut down if it was supposed to and is there a good way to verify and test the network connection while the machine was in sleep mode?
    Thanks

    Thank you for your help.
This is the details of the policy. It is enforced and enabled. I made the adjustments you suggested and it still happening, also it is now happening on both test machines (the other is a Vostro 260), and also to remind you it even happens when I start sleep
mode manually. 1 out of 10 times it doesn't happen, but it's randomly and without me making any changes. In the event log under windows/system I see an event ID 1 "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller is disconnected
from network." when it wakes up from sleep. This event has been visible under the the machine I was having trouble with orginally, now it is on both of them.
I really can't wrap my head around this one.
UPDATE: I changed nothing else in the GPO and made one change to both of the computers i manually changed the NIC settings to
Allow the computer to turn off this device, Allow this device to wake up the computer and using a magic packet.
The reason I put that registry preference was because I believed this is the setting that was causing Outlook to ask for a password after a long night or so of sleep.
...Still a bit confused but I'll continue the testing.

  • HP PHOTOSMART ALL-IN-ONE 5510 WONT PRINT AFTER GOING TO SLEEP MODE

    My printer model:
    HP PHOTOSMART ALL-IN-ONE 5510 B111A
    Problem:
Printer goes to sleep mode. After 25-30 minutes the wireless connection between the PC and the printer breaks. Blue Wireless light is on even at the sleep mode and I can see that the printer is connected to my router and there is internet connection. HP Print and Scan Doctor sees the printer but I cannot awake the printer unless I restart it.
What I have tried so far:
I have tried all the solutions hp.com offered including; reinstalling driver, updating printer software, setting static IP to printer, setting static DNS servers, using HP Print and Scan Doctor.
I have seen people asked about this question before and there was no solution. I really need HP help!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Let’s try this.  Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off' is disabled.  Set a static IP in the printer outside the DHCP range of the router.  Use a fixed wireless channel like 1,6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.  Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.  Always use WPA2-AES encryption.  Power off both.  Power on router wait 3 mins.  Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.  Now try.
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos Thumbs Up to the right in the post.

  • Very slow MV fast refresh after "Merge" on dimension

    Hi,
We have a sales cube with 300Mio records and product dimension with 20.000 records.
We have a materialized view something like:
    SELECT      COUNT(*) AS cnt,
         COUNT(cube.amount) AS cnt_amt,
         sum(cube.AMOUNT) as amount,
    p.product_name
    FROM sales_cube cube
    JOIN product_dimension p on cube.product_dimension = p.product_dimension
    group by day, product_dimension
There is tho mv_log on cube and on product_dimension defined.
    After import process for sales_cube
In the night we run an product dimension update script implemented wit MERGE.
If something changes in product dimension then next fast refresh from materialized view takes 4 hours. If we have no changes in product_dimension then fast refresh takes 8 seconds.
My question is, why takes it sooo long and who can we prevent it.

I'm not authorized to publish EXECUTION PLAN or schema details.
    But I found the problem.
ETL Prozess is generated by Warehouse Builder.
ETL Prozess is modeled as Mapping from product table to product dimension in Warehouse as "UPDATE/INSERT" by PK (product number).
Warehouse Builder generates an MERGE statement for such "UPDATE/INSERT" mappings.
But this mapping updates every record in Dimension Table, as result Materialized View Log for this dimension is confused. Fast refresh (join between fact table and dimension) is very slow (slower than compleate refresh).
Now, i simple must find out how i can change this OWB mapping not to update records in dimension if corresponding records are not modified in source table.
There is an "match by constraint" option in mapping, looks useful, i'll try it tomorow.

  • Display doesn't wake up after going to sleep

On rare occassion, but often enough to be a hassle, my 20" apple display will stay black after I move the mouse or hit the keyboard after the computer has gone to sleep. My only solution is to hold the power button in for 5 second and force a restart. Why does this happen and what can I do to stop it?
    Thanks!
    Norm

If your Mac happily goes to sleep but won't wake up--Hold down the power switch to force-reboot your machine and get it running again.
Don't worry-your Mac isn't narcoleptic. Its Open Firmware system or NVRAM (nonvolatile RAM) is likely corrupt, and your Mac can't remember how to wake up.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Command-Option-O-F key combo until you see a somewhat intimidating command-line display that ends with the Open Fimware prompt. Type the following line:
    reset-nvram
press the return key on your keyboard
    set-defaults
    press return
    reset-all
    press return
Your Mac will reboot. Once it's running, put it back to sleep to test. If the problem recurs your Energy Saver preferences may be the culprit. Delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file (go to Finder/Hard drive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration)--don't worry, your Mac will regenerate a new one--and then restart to see if that rights the wrong.
Still did'nt work? Might be time to call AppleCare or see an Apple Genius or a technician.
    Cheers!

  • What do I do if an iPod shuts down after going into sleep mode

My friends iPod keeps shutting down after it goes into sleep mode. I just fixed it up (restored it, had to dry it out after it fell into water) and now it does that. Everything else works fine but if I put it in sleep mode or put it into sleep mode it shuts down. How do I fix this because I've never seen this happen before.

• Internet gives after going to sleep

My Powerbook has been acting strange. Lately, whenever the computer goes to sleep for a long period of time, for example, when I let it go to sleep at night, and when I wake up to use the computer, the internet isn't working.
It only seems to happen after the computer is asleep for a while. All I have to do is restart the computer and the internet is working fine. The internet is working for everyone else (I am at school) and nothing is changing.. the probably only occurs after the laptop has been asleep for a while. Safari says my computer is not connected to the internet at all, but like I said, as soon as I restart, the internet works.
    Any suggestions?
      Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I've had this same problem, though with mine, whenever there's a hiccup with the internet signal, currently through a wireless cable modem, the PB loses its external IP, thus it can no longer access the web. With the cable modem, the external IP is static, thus is always the same. Still, I have to restart the PB to regain connectivity. The PCs on this same network do not have this problem!!
Isn't there some way of reinitializing the network without doing a full restart?
    Thanks.
