Faster router offer

So i receive this email offering to sell me an 85mb router today. I am paying for Quantum tv with 75/35 internet, the offer would have a customer belleve they need this to achieve good speeds to use the internet or quantum product. If that is the case, why does verizon supply peripherals that will not allow a customer to use the product that they are paying for. OR is the email misleading? please help me to understand

WEP, WPA, & WPA2 have nothing to do with the speed capability of a router.  Those terms describe different types of security for logging into the router's wi-fi.  That said, if you have a router that can not use WPA2, then you should request an updated router, and Verizon should provide you with one for no fee, because WPA2 will give you more security than WEP.  If your router can not do WPA2, then it is probably pretty old and so it also probably uses older wi-fi protocols such as "G" that isn't as fast as newer versions such as "N" or "AC".
If you are using devices that are connected to your current router via ethernet cable, you should be getting close to your paid speed, and the router won't be limiting it.  Verizon only guarantees your full speed when wired.
The latest widely available version of the FIOS router is an "N" router, meaning its wi-fi will have better range and speed than an earlier model which cannot use "N", so if you are having signal issues, the latest router may solve this for you if your devices also are compatible with N wi-fi.   This is the model that Verizon is trying to get you to purchase.  In the Verizon web page, it says that it is capable of providing up to 85 mbps via wi-fi.  If your paid internet tier is over about 100 mbps, Verizon will give you the "N" router for no charge, since it is required for those fastest speeds.  You may be able to talk them into giving you one of these for free if you agree to an upgrade or contract extension.
A new FIOS router is expected to come out soon which features "AC" wi-fi, which will give even more range and speed than N wi-fi, but again, you will need fairly new devices that are AC wi-fi compatible in order to take advantage of that extra range and speed that AC offers.
You could also purchase a newer third party N or AC wi-fi router and use that with your current FIOS router to get better wi-fi range and speed.
Please see the thread below for more information regarding the new FIOS routers.

The Time Capsule automatically  broadcasts a simultaneous dual band wireless signal. Wireless devices will connect to the band with the best quality signal based on their capabilities and distance in relation to the Time Capsule.

• Calls Routed, Offered and answered showing different figures on the Call_type_Interval table

Hi all
I am totally confused by so data that I am seeing for several call types on the Call_Type_Interval table. Our interval is set to 30 minutes
The issue confusing me is as follows (example):
I can see 679 calls offered (Call_Type_Interval.CallsOffered) but for the same interval I have 731 calls routed (Call_Type_Interval.CallsRouted) and 731 calls answered (Call_Type_Interval.CallsAnswered) .
Can anyone explain what is causing this. Why is calls offered less than calls routed and answered.
Any guidance that could be given would be extremely appreciated.
Kind regards
Stewart

Hi,
could you please reveal more about your call routing? Is there any IVR involved? Queuing?
CallsOffered means within the specified half-hour interval this many calls has "gone through" the specified Call Type.
CallsAnswered means within the specified half-hour interval this many calls were answered after the specified Call Type. But this does not necessarily mean that all the calls that have been answered at this interval, had gone through the Call Type in the same interval. If, for instance, there's an IVR after the Call Type, or a prompt, that might insert enough time to have a call answering moment slip to the next interval.
CallsRouted: for this many calls the script execution terminated in the specified interval (but also this does not necessarily mean the call was answered or handled - all we know is that the script execution stopped).
In this case, in 731 cases the script execution stopped (Routed) simply because the agent answered (CallsAnswered) the call.
I hope this makes sense.
G.

• Can i use my time capsule as wireless storage and not as a router too?

hi there i just bought my self a time capsule its a 500gb one as i do not need the 1tb+ storage.
i play a lot of online games and have a fast router so i do not want the time capsule for its router capabilitys i only want to use it as a wireless storage unit is this possible to do?
if not i can connect a usb storage to my current router and use that as my wireless storage if so where is the best place to sell this time capsule?

You simply bridge the TC and plug it into the existing router.. it will then provide network storage..
Can connect either via the existing router or the TC.. if you set up wireless correctly.. if it is a gen1 you can set to 5ghz only.. that will keep it from interferring with the existing router.

• Will a new router increase my broadband speed in this configuration

How much (if at all) can I increase my broadband speed by getting a faster router. Here's my config:
DSL line --> DSL modem --> Lynksys BEFSR41 Router --> Ethernet cat-5 wiring in house --> TimeCapsule WiFi
The computers using this network are an Intel iMac (10.6), a PowerPC iMac (10.4), and two Intel MacBooks (10.6).
The modem/router are located in an in-wall distribution box in a utility room. I want to keep the hardwired ethernet available in case the WiFi quits temporarily. The TimeCapsule is in a good location (top shelf bookcase on first floor) for coverage of my 2-story house. In principle could eliminate the Lynksys modem, and use the TC as the primary router, but it would be difficult to physical locate the TC where it could both distribute to the house ethernet and have good radio reception.
Testing via the hardwire ethernet (using Speakeasy and speedtest.net) shows download and upload speed 1.27Mbps and 0.32Mb/s. My ISP is pacbell.net. I get the same result via my W-Fi. Speedtest.net tells me my result is about 40% of the average for pacbell.net to my zip code 94301.
I've heard there are much faster routers than the BEFSR41, but I don't know if my internet speed is limited by my current router or by pacbell's DSL service.
Any insights would be appreciated.

Will a new router increase my broadband speed
No...your speed is only going to be as fast as your weekest link, which in your case is the DSL modem and the connection speed package you subsribe to.

• EA4500 router and media server file limit

I purchased an EA4500 router yesterday and it arrived today. Set it up, copiued my media library over to a new Seagate Expansion drive (2 TB) and it currently is filled with 320GB of files. Music folder, Pictures folder and Video folder. Thing is only some of the files are showing up. Looks very much like some stupid limitation on file numbers. I specifically purchased this router because of the media server and now it is useless.
Is there a fix for this sillyness? I can't seem to find a way to turn the file limit off. I truly hope I haven't purchased another rubbish router. The TP Link router I replaced had no such file size limit and was 2/3 of the price, easily.
Yours, not amused

Yes, I checked that before I bought myself a Seagate Expansion drive 2TB. The router list shows 1.5 and 3TB drives in that range and I would say that the 2TB is veyr likely to be supported also.
The files are bog standard file types! Some files show up but not all of them.
FLAC (you missed that filetype off the supported audio types btw) and MP3 show up but not all of them.
MPEG2 files show and play..but not all are visible.
None of my images in my photo library show up and they are all JPEG. No esoteric file formats.
It seems though that the media server just doesn't show anything after it reaches a file limit. It really isn't up to anything much if that is the case and for the money that router should be better. Furthermore, the folders with audio albums in doesn't display the contects in the correct alphanumeric order. I was playing an album by Cassandra Wilson and immediately noticed that the songs were in the wrong order. Something totall wrong there...the server has to be displaying them like that.
I have Marantz CR603 all-in-one hif fis in 3 different rooms in the house (living room and two bedrooms). Sometimes 2 can connect simultatenously but 3 won't as the server falls over. Even with two units connected it will suddenly disconnect for no reason. My connection isn't slow It is fast anbd yet accessing the media server is very very slow and especially simultatenous access.
It seems to me that the media server element is a stripped down token effort but all the sales garb for the router doesn't mention aything about its silly limitations.
I think the best thing for me to do now is return this to Amazon for a full refund and find another brand of router.  It was bad enough 'adjusting' to the cloud managment - a firmware download initiated on install and installed that. Some of the config pages don't work properly (that needs an urgent fix as well...IP address fields with only 3 fields that won't allow you to enter last 3 octets of address and you can't apply setting) and the dumbned down way of presentating the options makes it a pain to setup if you are used to the usual way of setting up a router. If I setup a router manually it takes a fraction of the time that the hand holding setup nonsense takes. I get the idea, and it looks pretty and all big buttony how everyhting is going these days but there should be a seriously 'normal' advanced mode for people that don't require their hands held through the setup and configuration.
Very dissappointed. It's a fast router as well.

• CSS or MLS for Routing

I have a pair of 11506 CSS and 4506 switches with sup IV. I would like to use the switch to route because it would provide me with faster route speeds, since it would use MLS and provide me wire speeds instead using the Route Processsor all the time.
The problem is I then loose redundancy for server to server communication when a server goes down on the same leg.
What are common solutions that would provide me with redundacy to servers on the other leg and the speed of the 4506 MLS6.
I don't want to have to go up to the CSS and route because we notice that all traffic is coming from one IP (the CSS Interface)on web logging and it is not as quick as using the switch. In order to change using the same VIP I would have to use a NAT for server to server communication.
So my two options at this point are
A) Using the CSS for load balancing for server to server communication.
B) Setup Load balancing at the server level (I'm not sure if this is possible without clustering).
Is there a way to do this at the switch level?
Keep in mind this is a 4506 so SLB on the switch is not an option.

Try upgrading IOS if necessary. As per my knowledge it works fine in 12.1(19)E and above.Refer the follwoing URL

• Bridge or Router Mode?

I have adsl modem asus dsl13 (mode adsl2+ ). Provider has a PPoE.
What a proper option for TC - bridge or router?

You can do either bridge on the modem and router on the TC.. or router on the asus modem and bridge on the TC.
There is hardly any difference in overall performance.. since adsl is the limiting factor here.
But a few things to consider.
Pro router in the TC
1. The TC is a much faster router than the asus, if you need speed. (For normal setup makes no difference)
2. The TC often behaves better when it is the router to clients running time machine. (TC should be main router in the network if you keep having issues and losing connection with it).
Pro router in the Asus.
1. The TC is peculiarly apple, and misses out some things important. eg QoS, very important if you are running voip phones, upnp, very important if you run gaming consoles.
2. If you run the Asus as the main router you have direct access to the modem stats. This is difficult behind a bridged modem.
3. You can run PPPoA, which is slightly more efficient encapsulation method if your ISP supports it. For many people the ISP does not support pppoe so they have little choice. Sometimes PPPoA is the preferred method by the ISP and is just more reliable.
For the vast majority of people there is no right answer. Pick what works for you.

• Airport extreme or my current router.

I have a d-link dir-655 router. I've had this router since 2010. It's a fast router and it has never let me down. I recently purchased an ipad, imac and macbook pro. My brother and his wife have windows computers. Is it recommended I get an airport extreme router? Just in case I buy one. Would this give me problems with a windows based computer?

FWIW, I currently have both a 4th gen Time Capsule & AirPort Extreme Base Station in my home network configuration. These are my only wireless routers and they support a mix of network clients that include Windows XP, Vista, & 7 OSs without any issues.

• How do I create a Bing Maps route that stays on a U.S. Route number for tourism/scenic purposes?

How do I create a Bing Maps route that stays on a U.S. Route number for tourism/scenic purposes?  I want to go from point a to point b while staying as much as possible on a US route number, such as US 6 or US 20 or US 101 or US 40, (and the defunct
US 66).
Instead of dragging points back to the road every time it pulls you onto a faster route, can I just say "use RT20 as much as possible?"
Or as simple as choosing a point on a US Route and selecting the entire length as a trip.   The idea is to plan trips throughout the USA avoiding interstates, and staying on the actual original routes.
I am posting this here at request from Microsoft Support Engineer as a more complex request.

This is already on the feature request list from one other person. This would take a lot of work to implement from a technical side of things. given that only one other person has requested this, there isn't much of a business case for this yet.

• How to set up DDNS with a BEFW11S4 wireless router

I dont see any obvious way to set up a DDNS server on this product. Any help?
Message Edited by bixfisher on 06-11-2009 08:24 AM

The Router offers a Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS) feature. You can choose which services you want to use. The two choices are :
DDNS.org : http://www.dyndns.com/
TZO : http://www.tzo.com/
You have to sign up with the Service DynDNS or TZO...
Access your router's web interface and go to the DDNS tab under the Main tab 'Setup'

• Recommendation on Router....?

Looking to upgrade from the rca router that comcast gave me. Would like faster connection to my iMac and wireless to my old powerbook. Anyone have problems with the linksys speed booster on amazon....? Is there a gem i haven't seen?..... any advise would help. thanks..

Welcome to the discussions!
Are you looking to speed up your internet, or the transfers between your Macs on your LAN? A faster router will do nothing for your internet speed as Airport works at 54mbps and most broadband connections here in the States top out at 6-8mbps.
I would not spend any extra money for a SpeedBooster or SuperG router for a Mac as the Airport card in Macs is a standard 54G card and you will not realize any speed gain at all.
Is your internet connection slow and are you looking to speed it up? If so, maybe there is a system setting that needs to be tweaked.

• E2500 router seems to be losing power

I have an E2500 router and a D-link range extender.  When we bought the range extender, it broudcast the signal throughout the house.  Recently, I we are not picking up the signal on the range extender.  That seems to be because the range extender is not finding the original signal from the E2500 router.  I have tried resetting the range extender without success.  I conclude that the signal coming from the router is not robust enough.  The problem seems to be getting worse over time. What can I do?  If should replace the router, can anyone recommend a more powerful model that won't have the same problems?  I am a non-technical person so I may need more explanation than some other people.

You may want to adjust the router's wireless channel to improve its connection to the network. Try channel 6, 9, 11, and 1. Also, relocate the extender to its final location. Place it somewhere halfway between the router and the remote wireless devices.
Here's an article that may help:

But if you're looking for a faster router, go and check any of the newer models of the EA router series.

• A router vs router question

Hye, Sorry for the newbie question.
When having a small bussiness consisting of ~40 clients that i want to connect to one of those two routers  "RV042G router or a tp-link WR841N"
Which one over the other should i get and why?
Thank you

Thank you both for your feedback much appreciated.
To answer your questions
what features do you need  or do you just need a fast router with a stateful inspection  NAT firewall ?
Yeah a fast router that holds a sif is enough , As most of the employees here only use the internet to its standards except when it comes to using the sharepoint.
Do you like the idea of ;
1. VPN termination
2. VPN termination of BYOD devices
3. 600+ Mbit/sec NAT throughput
4. ability to handle thousands of simultaneous firewall connections per second.
1- No
2- Maybe, although i dont think we need this solution
3-As i currently work in one of  the 3rd world countries in the middleeast, The Network infrastructure supports only up to 2mbs upload and download.
4-Well I have Ms forefront tmg software that i'll be installing on one of servers , Won't this be enough?
Give me an idea of your needs?
Well , Just opened a voip transit office, Nothing technical only Voip and Bulk Sms sales. 40 employees all have their laptops and Smart phones.
1 onsite sharepoint server using one public ip .
1 2008r2 server that i'll be using for the Microsoft forefront firewall
I have 3 internet connections from 3 different isp's.
1 cisco aironet 1041 access point Connected to tplink WR841N router which in turn is connected to a
a microwave dedicated 2mbs download/upload connection .
2 residential 8mbs download/upload connections as a backup incase the first one fails.
All of our network in the office is a wireless one, " Might be going with wired connection" as i'm facing some disconenctions. So a good router connected to a cisco switch that can support 40 employees will be needed.
No voip phones, Although it might be a future plan.
That pretty much sums up everything here
But note that two people,  responded to your question on the day you placed the query.
Thank you and i appreciate both of your help good sirs.
The small Business Support center that supports this product is also pretty darn good as well, when it comes to break/fix support.
Good to hear.
Thank you for your time and help.
