Faster way?

Hello -
I've been scratching my head at these two features that I want to provide for days now. I have been searching tutorials and thought you experts would know of a faster way.
I'm running InD6 on a PC. It's fast; that's not my problem.
I have a 22 pg document, exporting in pdf format, for a client (realtor) to show clients on her tablet &/or PC. As of now, none of the clients are running Flash, so no SWF files.
My first problem: page numbering
Pages 1 is the cover, page 2 is the table of contents (that I made, not used InD for). The client wants page three to be listed as page 1.
For this, do I need to use the pages panel to section off the cover and ToC to be their own section, and then page three will be numbered (insert spec character>marker, I understand that & how) as page 1?
Once I get that figured out, I also want to have the line item be a link to a destination within the document, with a rollover (upon hover) that shows text ("Click here to go to page X")
I feel like I'm close, but from what I've read I need to:
create a button, which would be the line of text on the ToC
also create a rollover to say "click here to go..." upon hover
use the hyperlink to connect the action of clicking the line of text to going to the specified page within the doc.
Anyone willing to help? It seems more complex than I want it to be. InD makes so many things so easy...
-Hoping -

On Page 1 go to Layout>Numbering and Section Options
Have this start at Roman Numerals "i" for now
On page 3 go to Lyout>Numbering and Section Options and select to have this start at a new Section, and choose numbering "1" as the layout.
Now page 3 will be numbered page 1.
Seems like you have the 2nd one down? You stuck on anything in particular?

  • Fast way to delete all voice memos?

    My wife has a ton of Voice Memos.  When you sync photos, the photos are imported into iTunes, then deleted from iPhone.  When you sync Voice Memos, it brings in all the Voice Memos into iTunes on MacBook, but also leaves them on iPhone.  So now she has 100s on the iPhone in Voice Memo app, which also show up in iTunes - is there a fast way to get rid of them all out of Voice Memo? (She wants to keep them in iTunes, where they are more easily managed than in Voice Memo.) I was thinking of deleting Voice Memo application and reinstalling it, but its a system app, I guess, and can't be deleted?
    This seems very shortsighted on Apples part...  A real headache to have to manually delete voice memos after they are already copied into iTunes?

    Hi,
    with the mentioned function module the table is dropped and recreated. Since this is DDL (data definition language) it is very fast it only changes the data dictionary / catalog in the database and is almost indepent of the size of the table.
    The delete in contrast could be slow since it has to do the i/o for all pages where data has to be deleted (it depends on the size of the table).
    There is nothing missing / works as designed.
    How often do you have to delete this data? If it is a regular task i would sit down with your DBA (database administrator) to find a good solution. (There are several options e.g. paralell DML (data manipulation language) just to name one).
    Kind regards,
    Hermann

  • HT4009 I'm in Subscription **** on the iPad.  Is there an App or faster way to determine current Magazine subscriptions?

    How can I easily be sure I don't already have a magazine subscription or a single issue in Newsstand (or Zinio) when confronted with a purchase option. Is there an App or faster way to determine this information?  Both Newsstand and Zenio have seen fit to "hide" this data deep in another App or menu, perhaps as a marketing tool to get you to buy multiple copies of the same magazine.  I travel for a living and buy and delete digital magazine all the time.  Sometimes, I buy them and am unable to download immediately due to slow WiFi or restrictions in airports, this adds to the confusion as what I have bought, deleted, or never downloaded, especially with multiple readers.  Additionally, the App store manages current subscriptions on one menu and single purchases in another.    I love reading on the new iPad, but the management of subscriptions has been an absolute nightmare.   Is there another Newstand App that is easier to use or perhaps a Subscription Management App?

    Take a look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4098
    Other than looking in the various locations or doing a search for the title, I don't know of any way to easily find single-issue purchases.

    I'll venture that your problem here is that you're using two very different versions of Mac OS X.  The USB adapter has been useful to me when making big downloads or while using other networks, but it might not be your case.
    Here's what I would advise, though it may be less than stellar:  Copy the files you need into folders and move them through a USB flash drive or using that external hard drive of yours. (Could the format be the reason your MBA can't see it?). Some stuff like calendars and contacts can be exported too. At least in Lion, I haven't used Tiger in a while.
    Good luck.

  • I have a ! next to some songs and i have to locate them under my music under my documents and when i do it plays in my itunes is there a faster way to do this?once i fix this can i do anything from it happening again?

    i have about 100 songs itunes shows a ! next to it says cannot find please locate i can locate them under my music under my documents and when i do it plays in itunesbut that would take a kong time is there a faster way to fix this?and once i do fix this is there a way for this not to happen again?

    Hello ryane84
    There really is not a faster way to link the songs. You could get the info on the missing songs to see where they sit on your computer and just move the files there before. Then you can organize your library to move them in the iTunes library folder or another place of your choosing. To keep it form happening again, the article does have a section on what to do to keep it organized when new media is added.

  • How can I change the text layers to a specific color at the same time and in the fast way?

    Dear all!
    I am using Photoshop CS5. I typed 65 text layers in my file and wish to change their colors to a specific Black Color, but I don't know how to select all the layers at the same time so that I can change all the text layers from Red Color to Black Color in the fast way. Now I only select one layer and then change. It means I must select and change 65 times for the text layers. Hope you can understand what I mean.
    Thanks a lot.
    My Kindest Regards,
    LUCK

    One way is to select all the text layers, select the type tool in the tool box
    and set the color from the tool options bar.

  • Is there a fast way to wrap unstructured text into [Para] tags?

    I'm trying out my new Frame 12 by trying to produce an ebook in several formats. I'm using the out-of-copyright Agatha Christie's A MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR AT STYLES.
    Is there a fast way to wrap each paragraph with a [Para] tag?
    Thanks in advance.

    Wow, Russ, leave it to an FDK programmer to want to write a script or plugin to solve every problem! And FM does indeed have native functionality that addresses this situation. The conversion tables (see the Structured Application Developer Reference) that you mention in passing were designed to handle exactly this situation. Except that a conversion table operates on an unstructured rather than a partially structured document. So, all TdeV1 need do is:
    1. Create a new document from the chosen sample.
    2. Delete all content, including the root element.
    3. Paste the original, unstructured paragraphs.
    4. Use StructureTools > Generate Conversion Table to create a new coversion table.
    5. Complete the table as follows:
    Wrap this object or object
    In this element
    With this qualifier
    P:
    Para
    Para+
    Section
    Section
    Chapter
    6. Save the conversion table but leave it open.
    7. In the original document, use StructureTools > Utiltities > Structure Current Document.
    8. Create the needed Head elements for the Chapter and Section.
    Another alternative, available since FM 11, is Smart Paste. Recall that Smart Paste allows the user to copy material from web pages and Microsoft Office products such as Word and paste it into FM. Yes, in general, there is a significant amount of setup to prepare for using Smart Paste. However, Smart Paste is supported out of the box for DITA. So TdeV1 could do the following:
    1. If the content originated in Word, open the Word document and copy the paragraphs to the clipboard.
    2. Use DITA > New DITA File > New <topic> to create a new DITA document.
    3. Click in the <body> element to set an insertion point within that element.
    4. Use Edit > Smart Paste. FM will paste the content, converting each paragraph to a <p>.
    5. Copy the resulting <p> elements to the clipboard.
    6. Paste the <p> elements into the actual document.
    7. Select the <p> elements and use the Element Catalog (or Ctrl-3 to bring up the Smart Catalog for changing elements) to change them to <Para> elements.
    However the structured document is created, while this sample template is appropriate for initial experimentation with structured FM, it is intended for technical material and not optimal for fiction. To get the most out of a structured document for production work, it's almost always necessary to define elements and attributes appropriate to the particular project.

  • Update JTable model col through header name in fast way

    old day, i update my JTable model through the way :
    tableModel.setValueAt(aValue, rowIndex, jTable1.getColumn("HeaderName").getModelIndex());now, i am adding a feature to my table, where the user can remove column.
    when user remove the column, is just the JTable GUI column being removed,. the underlining TableModel column is still there.
    my new feature will broke my above code.
    hence, i change my code to :
    for(columnIndex=0; columnIndex<columnCount; columnIndex++) {
         String name = tableModel.getColumnName(columnIndex)
         if(name.equals("HeaderName"))
              tableModel.setValueAt(aValue, rowIndex, columnIndex)
    }instead of looping through, is there any way i can retrieve the column model index in a fast way?
    a way i can think off, is inherit from DefaultTableModel, and add a map member, so that it can directly map the header name to col index.
    is there any better way?
    thanks

    i don't know why but the KeyListener does work fine with another application that i have also created Not a good solution. First of all the column still exists, so the user will tab from one column to your "hidden" column and wonder whats happening.
    The correct solution is to remove the TableColumn from the TableColumnModel. You can still access the data in the TableModel:
    table.getModel().getValueAt(...)
    No need to use the convertColumnIndexToModel.

  • Is there a faster way to sync?

    Hello.
    I had some issues with my Apple TV and MAcBook syncing yesterday and I had to pair my computer again, and the content of Apple TV was erased. So now I have to sync everything again but its taking hours (I think even days). My internet connection might be causing some slow syncing.
    Is there a faster way to sync for the first time? (I guess just to transfer around 50 GB of info into apple TV, and then, wireless works out just fine)
    I left my computer all night syncing and it only did around 11 GB, after that, it went into sleep and stopped syncing.
    Cheers and thanks...
    IA

    your internet connection have nothing to do with the sync'ing between your computer and atv
    you don't even have to have an internet connection to sync
    you can try using eathernet rather then wifi but not sure how much it would help
    really the bottleneck seem to be located elsewhere i suspect

  • Faster way of doing this?

    Is there a faster way to do either of these and accomplish the same result?
         public int getXPForLevel(int level) {
              int points = 0;
              int output = 0;
              for (int lvl = 1; lvl <= level; lvl++) {
                   points += Math.floor((double)lvl + 300.0 * Math.pow(2.0, (double)lvl / 7.0));
                   if (lvl >= level)
                        return output;
                   output = (int)Math.floor(points / 4);
              return 0;
         public int getLevelForXP(int exp) {
              int points = 0;
              int output = 0;
              for (int lvl = 1; lvl <= 99; lvl++) {
                   points += Math.floor((double)lvl + 300.0 * Math.pow(2.0, (double)lvl / 7.0));
                   output = (int)Math.floor(points / 4);
                   if (output >= exp)
                        return lvl;
              return 0;
         }

    You ask for a way to make things faster, and people respond by saying, "why do you want it faster?", or "Are you sure you want it fast? I think your making a mistake by trying to make it faster." Amazing. If you need this fast, you should definitely construct a lookup table and use that for both functions. I haven't verfied your calculator function, but assuming it's right this should work for you. The getLevelForXP is still using a linear search, but it should be much much faster than what your using now. If you need that even faster, you could use a binary search, starting at MAX_LEVEL / 2 to determine whether your target is above or below that level and then moving to the mid-point of the remaining levels; reducing your search time to log-base 2 of your MAX_LEVEL.

                points += Math.floor((double)lvl + 300.0 * Math.pow(2.0, (double)lvl / 7.0));
                if (lvl >= level)
                    return output;
                output = (int)Math.floor(points / 4);
            return 0;
        public int getXPForLevel(int level) {
            return expTable[level];
        public int getLevelForXP(int exp) {
            for (int lvl = 1; lvl <= MAX_LEVEL; lvl++) {
                if(expTable[lvl] > exp)

  • Faster way for Refreshing a Library Reference

    Hi,
    I have a question for the Creator gurus:
    I'm developing a webapp who in turn is a presentation layer of the bussiness logic coded in some EJB's. I'm developing both components together, and when I add some Session Beans (EJB ones, not Creator ones) I must refresh the library / client wrapper used by Creator.
    The procedure so far is: Removing the library and the library reference from the project, then close the project. Remove the EJB sets from Creator (in the server navigator tab), close and reopen creator. Import the updated client-jar, and then open the project and add a ejb-client to a blank page. This way I end up with the updated libraries. There is a easier / faster way to do this?
    Thank you in advance.
    Antonio.

    Correction, although I don't have a testcase handy, I found the bug
    which was filed and it should be fixed.
    After adding an EJB in the Servers window , right-click on the node and choose refresh.
    Here's a scenario:
    1)Create an EJB with a business method which returns a string
    2)Deploy the EJB and add the EJB in Creator
    3)Create a new Project and name it Project1 and D&D the business method in the designer
    4)A data provider will be generated and libraries will be added under Project1(Check under Projects tab)
    5)Drag and drop a static text and bind a property to the static text
    6)Deploy the application
    7)Update the EJB with one more business method and deploy the same EJB again
    8)Right click on the EJB that was added to Creator in step 2 and select refresh
    9)Both the business methods are visible
    10)D&D the second business method on to the designer of Project one
    11)Create a new Project name it Project2, D&D both the business methods, library references are shown correctly for this project.
    hope this helps
    John

  • Faster way ?  properties file vs weblogic.xml jndi context

    Anyone knows what is faster way to get a value from a parameter,
    a) using a properties file
    b) using jndi context ( env-entries )
    Anyway to get new values from a runtime changed files ?
    Regards
    jsanza

    The real question is what are you trying to do, since that may make the
    decision. If you need to be able to change a parameter, either build
    parameter maintenance into your app (a page for example) or use the file
    method so you actually edit the stuff.
    JNDI is in-memory, which is fast. Pulling from disk will be pretty fast too
    on most systems (typically it is from memory if the file has been changed,
    since everything used gets cached by most OSs).

  • Updating 3GS from 3.1.2 to 6.1.3 taking way too long. Is there a better and faster way?

    How long does it take to update an original 3GS to 6.1.3? I followed the iTune instructions and it has been updating for hours already. Is there a better and faster way to do this?

    SO if I want to represent the London Underground
    network as a Graph how would I be able to do it?By writing classes of your own or using some one else's. I don't think that the collections framework has out-of-the-box support for graphs.... So try google first.
    The implementation details depend on the API you are going to use, of course...
    from A to B 5 min
    from B to C 4 min
    from A to C 9 min
    this information is redundant, the third info should be omitted. <nit-picking>
    No it's not - What if there's a special, more direct route from A to C? Also, getting from A to B to C will usually take more time than the time from A to B plus the time from B to C. The trains have to stop at B, don't they?
    </nit-picking>
    Maybe this approach is more complex, but it solves the problem Have I understood correctly - isn't what you describe just another way to implement a graph?

  • A Fast way to display compressed images?

    Hi,
    I currently working on iPhone and trying to display (home-made) compressed images in an UIImageView : it is updated as soon as I have finished building the new one. I already do it with raw (BMP) images but I use them at 2D GLTextures that I found faster than the use of an UIImageView.
    To update the view with compressed images, I do:
    //member in .h
    UIImage * myImage;
    UIImageView * MyImgView;
    // In .m
    -(void)UpdateImageWithData :(NSData *) p_Data
    myImage = [UIImage imageWithData:p_Data];
    MyImgView.image = myImage;
    This works quite well, but I encounter a major drawback for me : the frame rate of this is never better than 10 fps. I build my images faster that 25 per second, but cannot display them that fast.
    I tried to change compression quality and compression methods (PNG interlaced or not, JPEG (411, 421, 444, varying quality from 10 to 100%), etc.) but I always have the same frame rate. So, I am assuming that the max frame rate you can have with an UIImageView is limiter whatever the format is.
    Now, I am wondering a few things :
    - Am I right about this limitation or do you see any flaw in my discussion?
    - Is there some way to 'accelerate' the rendering with an UIMageView?
    - Is there another faster way to display compressed images (or at least any kind of JPEG images)
    - Is there a (fast) way with UIKit (or any compatible lib) to retrieve the raw image so that I can use my first method and display it as a 2D OpenGL Texture?
    - Since from one image to the other only a few changes occur, do you see any way to update only what actually changed in order to save some CPU?
    - Do you think that the problem about UIImageView frame refreshement rate is linked with the iPhone Video Processor or with its CPU? (thus the new 3GS may help me solve this problem)
    Thank your for reading this untill the end.

    Hey, guess what, I had pretty much this same exact problem. Client wanted full screen 30 fps animation. Here's what I found experimenting with full screen sizes:
    - Whether you use UIImageView conveniences, or load and draw yourself in a UIView subclass, makes no apparent difference.
    - If you're doing basic Quartz drawing, never a problem keeping 30 fps up.
    - But as soon as you change the image in a UIImageView, or draw it with CGContextDrawImage() yourself in a UIView, then the frame rate plummets to about 10 fps on an iPod touch 1G, or 20-25 on an iPhone 3GS.
    For my purposes most of the full screen animation could be put into movies, and the motion clipped down to manageable sections in the interactive portions (and anyway, the fps doesn't really matter for those background bits). If it's not for you, then I guess you need to go down to OpenGL and see how that works out.

  • Fast way to compare strings in a log file

    I am having a log file ( contains more than 100,000 lines) based on system statistics for a time period. For each time point I am logging 12 sets of data each set starts with a tag /**START**/ and ends with a tag /**END**/. I would like to know the best and fast way to read from the log file and prepare records for each set for a specific time period.
    Currently I am reading from the file using BufferedReader.readLine() method and compare the tags and distribute the data sets accordingly....
    any suggestions...?

    Yes You are right.... I am doing the string parsing after reading each line... May be that is taking much time.. since we are providing an option to customize chart list, I have to process all the lines and distribute the data accordingly before preparing the charts. Some data set (between START & END) contains upto 256 lines and some single line... Here is a sample format....
