  • Can you 'lock out' a workstation via ZENworks?

    Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way to 'lock out' a workstation via
ZENworks so users can no longer log into the workstation temporarily.
This is the scenario - when someone within our company orders a new
workstation, they will many times tell us that the workstation is being
replaced when in reality the old workstation it is replacing is never
    taken off the network.
The problem? - we do not charge any new license fees for replacement
workstations PROVIDING the old workstation is disposed of (that way we
are able to transfer the licenses from the old to the new). If the old
workstation is still used, we are in violation of license fees.
Solution? - 'lock out' the old workstation so no one can use it any
longer unless they call our Helpdesk and it is 'unlocked' at which time
we remind them of the license charges.
I am not sure how this can be performed. We currently do something
similar with NEW XP PCs that have no local user accounts on them yet
(basically we enable login restrictions under the DLU policy - if the
workstation can't create a local user account for the user, they can't
log into the network or the PC). That solution would not work in this
case though since the local accounts would already be created on the PC.
We don't want to remove any software from the machine that will need to
be reinstalled in case the site does want to keep the machine on the
network after a new one is purchased. The solution should be designed to
easily enable the machine if the site does decide they want to keep the
machine on the network. Later on we would FDISK the PC for disposal.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as ALWAYS!
    Steve

Perhaps a Workstation Associated app that just pushed an invalid value for the
    GINA.DLL
Either Remote Regedit or another Force-Run app could restore this to a correct
    value.
Needs testing to make sure you can fix what you break, but this would lead
    everything intact.

  • Directive Bundle - Shutdown workstation no longer works

Our network has been using a directive bundle to shutdown our pc's for over a year now and it had worked quite well up until a couple of weeks ago.
At that point I added an additional requirement to keep it from shutting down a pc on our network, since then the pc's are no longer turning off as they had.
The action is set to shutdown the pc's after 900 seconds(15 minutes) and gives the user the option to cancel. The bundle is associated to 4 different workstation groups. The schedule for each association is set to "recurring" and has both the Distribution Schedule and the Launch Schedule set for 6:45pm M,T,W,T,F.
I originally tried to edit the bundle back to its original state by removing the requirement I had added, they still didn't shut down.
Then I rebooted the ZEN server(10.1.1) in case a service or something had been stopped or affected.
The bundle appears on all the clients under the "assigned bundles" in the agent and shows it is available and effective.
Yet the pc's still do not power off... any ideas?

  • Adobe Bridge CS3 crashes on load in my Windows 7 workstation.

Adobe Bridge CS3 crashes on load in my Windows 7 workstation.
I recently completely removed, deactivated and reinstalled all my Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Master Collection to solve some problems with other application from the suite and now I'm surprise Bridge continues to fail. In my portable workstation the same software (Bridge) uses to work.
I tried launching Bridge under several compatibility modes. All failed.
Is there any know bug I should be aware of? Any fix?
    Is this a common problem?

Curt Y. Thank you for your answer.
It was only Bridge who was crashing. It failed to load and Windows was giving an error message.
I tried your suggestion, and resetting all options in the reset window it now loads. It was as simple as that.

  • Using Creative Cloud for teams on non internet workstations

    Hi Folks,
Am interested in running creative cloud on workstations that do not have internet access.
This is because of security issues and Non Disclosure Agreements.
Internet will only be enabled by ICT  admin for activation.
Is there a manual procedure to validate the software on a machine with admin provided Internet before the 30 days of use elapses?
    Kind Regards,
    AC_ICT

In a broadcast environment where all our edit bays are offline behind firewall.  I've installed all our CC team seats and only have to take them online every 90 - 120 days or when updates are needed. Any users that see the license countdown are told to contact IT and I take the machine online manually, check for updates and that seems to give CC Aps enough time to touch base with the license server. Take the users offline and back behind the firewall till the next countdown begins.  Rinse, Repeat as needed. This is the manual way, otherwise you need to set up a Adobe License or Update Server behind your firewall that you then deploy updates as needed.

  • Slow applications start from win 2012 file server using win 7 workstations

I hope someone can help me with why applications are slow to load i have replaced a 8 year old server running  win 2003 and replaced it with dell t620 running win 2012 r2 it is like 20 times faster but it is slower than the old server. the office has
7 win 7 x64 machines all our applications are running from win 2012 file server. The server is set up as following the server runs with two hyper-v machines one machine runs ad, file server, dhcp, dns and printer server and the other is domino server and remote
    desktop.
the machine is more than capable but it is not so i started reading after i run out of ideas. i looked every where but the issue is with the server after trying everything else i did a simple test If i go to the application folder and click on it apps load
instantly if i then type a unc path it takes from instant load to 3 and a bit seconds the same as the workstations. The same speed if I use ip address.
    network cards are intel
i would really appreciate if somebody has suggestions that i could try
    thank you

    Hi,
Do you mean that applications in the application folder start slowly when you access the application folder on the Windows 2012 R2 file server from Windows 7 workstations using UNC path or IP address. Do all the files in the application folder have the same
issue? Please create a shared folder on the file server, then access the shared folder from Windows 7 workstations to check if the issue still exists.
You could disable SMBv3 on server 2012 to check if the issue related to SMB protocol.
How to enable and disable SMBv1, SMBv2, and SMBv3 in Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8, and Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2696547/en-us
Warning: We do not recommend that you disable SMBv2 or SMBv3. Disable SMBv2 or SMBv3 only as a temporary troubleshooting measure. Do not leave SMBv2 or SMBv3 disabled.

  • SSO to SAP using workstation password (GUI/Web)

Hello All - I am very new to this area and I am analyzing a SSO solution to implement in our company where in the User's workstation password will be the only authentication to logon to SAP.  We are looking into SSO using Kerberos but we are still not clear on the solution. Below are some of the questions that I can think of from the top of my head.
    1) What is the pre requisite to logon to SAP without password? AD/etc...
    2) Can logon via. SAP Logon GUI be passwordless? If yes, what is the solution/technology? Also if passwordless GUI log on is possible, what will be situation where a system has more than one client? Will it prompt to enter the client number?
    3) WIll SSO work across multiple landscapes like 4.7, MySAP, BW, Netweaver, etc?
I apologise ahead if I my questions are very vague. Kindly bear with me and point me to the right information, so that I can have the analysis of SSO ready for my company.

    > Hi Guys -  Iam back again. I am not sure if  I need to open a new thread since  I marked that my question was answerd. I had a chance to discuss the possibilties of enabling single sign on to GUI and my web with the experts in our company and we have the below questions. Since we already have Kerberos enabled in our workstations, we like the idea of installing SNC libraries.
Good choice Yes, you could have opened another thread, but I am happy to help you using this thread.
    > 1) Will SSO via. GUI using SNC libraries will work for all versions of SAP including 4.5, 4.6, mySAP, etc.. (I just want to ensure that I covered 4.5, 4.6, mySAP as well, as I didnot mention this in my previous post)?
Yes, SNC is supported on versions of SAP ABAP AS since 3.1I through to NetWeaver 2004s and beyond. So, you can use same solution for all versions of SAP in your landscape, and on all platforms as long as the vendor product you use has libraries for the operating system.
    > 2) Will installing SAPNEGO module enable single signon for web for all versions of SAP?
Yes, this is one option as it uses Kerberos capability already included in IE browser and also in Firefox browser - there is therefore no client software required and you can utilise Kerberos credentials already on workstation.
    > 3) Is there a whitepaper or a source where we can verify the above so that can get approval to get help from the SAP or SAP partners to devise a SSO plan for our complex SAP landscape?
As I explained before - some of this functionality is provided by SAP Partners so you need to contact one of them to ask for such papers. If you contact me I can give you a demonstration of this technology via a web meeting and answer any detailed questions you might have when you have seen it working. You might want to invite other people from your company as well.
    > For some reason, our Security Architect believes that SSO via. GUI is not possible using SNC libraries. I need some data from a trusted source. I did lookup by searching for SSO in thge forums and hwite papers but I am unable to find a source that validates the information.
I can show it to him working, or you can point him to http://www.cybersafe.com/d2 so he can see the products being installed and demonstrated.
    > I will have one more follow up question to clarify but I will wait for the response to above. If I have to create a new thread, please let me know and i am happy to do so.
Since you have started on this thread you might as well continue. No need to confuse matters by opening new thread, but in future when a thread is closed it is better to open a new one if you have additional questions.

We want our workstations in their proper containers. We have 900 of them
in *our* 300SM.ABQ.NM.NM container, while only having 300 computers at
    this location.
We created an Application Object (AO) to:

    (runs as a pre-distribution script)
    2) zwsreg.exe -importserver 172.16.13.2
(the server specific to this container.)
We logged the results, only to find PCs with "registered" into the proper
container had "jumped" to another container upon next login!
Are our options for zwsreg incomplete/incorrect? The DN settings are
ambiguous - does it mean the .CN=blah level or the .OU=blahblah level?
Are we required to say -importpolicy, or is it implied by the

Your import policy would determins where the object goes then you would
    do this
zwsreg -importserver 192.168.10.250 -importpolicy "Server Policy
    Name:General:Workstation Import.someOU.someO"
Replace "Server Policy Name" with whatever your import policy is, and
the .someOU.someO with the path to that policy.

  • How to find a workstation object by ip or mac address?

    Hi gang.
I'm trying to search for a workstation object by mac address or by IP
address. So far, I'm not able to find the correct attributes to do so.
Can anybody point me in the right direction to find a workstation by either
    IP or mac?
    thanks!
    John
