FastTrak BIOS not showing up on boot

I have the K7N2G-ILSR with bios ver. 1.9. When I boot the computer I no longer get the screen where it says:
"FastTrak 376 (tm) Bios Version 1.00.XX
(c) 2002-2005 Promise Technology, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Press to enter FastBuild (tm) Utility.... "
I used to get this screen before Windows XP boots, but I tried doing a modded bios and my computer wouldn't boot. So, I had to buy a new BIOS chip from BadFlash. As far as I know everything else seems to be working fine. Please help me out with this one.

I've got a similar problem.  I had one WD200GB SATA drive installed, striped in RAID array 0, and functioning perfectly for weeks.  Today I came back to the computer and the whole machine was locked up for no clear reason.  I rebooted and forgot about it.  Later on I went to browse for something on the drive and it was gone!  My boot drive is actually an IDE drive.
I don't get the entry to FastBuild screen on boot (where you can press Ctrl-F).  The WinXP Promise FastTrak 376/378 Controller appears in the WinXP Home Device Manager,  and claims to be working correctly.
I've installed the latest motherboard driver, system drivers (including Promise RAID).
If anyone can add anything that might help me out, I'd be ever grateful.  There's some data on the drive that I really need.  Damn you Murphy.

  • W520: Unable to boot from USB - device does not show up in boot menu

I have a W520, and I am trying to boot from a USB key. The USB key is bootable, my old T61p boots just fine from it, and so does another computer I tried.
The W520, after pressing F12 on power on, immediately shows the Intel PXE agent and then some blue boot menu, which only shows hard drive and LAN as available boot options.
I have tried all three USB ports but the results are always the same - the USB device does not show up. Is there any trick or BIOS setting to enable boot from USB?
    Thanks,
        CS

    Hello Neil
Thanks for getting back to me
The issue was that the usb drives were disabled in the bios from the  Startup menu.
    To enable
    1. Enter bios
    2. Select boot
    3. If you do not see the boot device you require use the down cursor key until the "Excluded from boot priority order" becomes visible.
    4. Select the device you require (in my case USB HDD)
    5. Save and exit.
You can now boot from a usb stick and install the Linux distro of your choice :-)
    Cheers

  • Bootcamp not showing up in boot loader

Today I needed to resize my Windows Vista Ultimate partition for work, so I used Disk Utility to crate an image from the partition. After that I used Boot Camp Assistant to remove the partition, and then create a larger partition. After this was done I went back into Disk Utility and restored the partition using the image I created earlier.
In OS X I can mount the partition and access the files and it seems everything was restored correctly. When I restart my machine and hold down the Option key to bring up the boot loader, Bootcamp is no longer an option. The only partition I can boot from is HD.
    Please help! Thanks

Did you actually Install a version of Windows into that Boot Camp Partition? It doesn't sound like you did.
You'll need a copy of Windows 7 or 8, 64bit, and a valid license key code for whatever version you plan on installing.

  • OS X Mavericks not showing up in boot menu?

    Hi,
I recently applied to the OS X Yosemite Beta program and downloaded and installed the Beta. I have a 1TB Hard drive in my MacBook Pro which is was partitioned in two partitions, one for OS X Mavericks and one for Bootcamp. I decided I wanted to keep my original partitions intact so I installed the Yosemite beta onto an external hard drive so I wouldn't affect my main system. The Yosemite Beta installed and booted fine from the external hard drive but when I rebooted my computer I was presented with option to boot into my Bootcamp partition or an OS X Yosemite Installer. I can boot into Windows fine but not OS X Mavericks. The OS X Mavericks partition is still intact but does not show up during start up. I tried using a third-party bootloader like rEFIt but doesn't seem to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here is an image showing my boot menu, the items in orange are my external hard drive with the Yosemite Beta on it.

Thanks for the reply, I managed to solve my problem by forcibly unmounting the install partition and booting into Bootcamp (My only option). From there I selected my OS X Mavericks partition from the Bootcamp menu in Windows and I rebooted successfully into it. For some reason it still wont show up in the boot menu  but rEFIt now works and will detect it along with the Bootcamp partition

  • OS X not showing up in boot camp control panel

Hi, I am using mac book pro with OS X mavericks. Recently I installed windows 8.1 with boot camp assistant. It  was all running fine. I partitioned my windows 8.1 drive to a new volume. When I did this,my OS X disappeared in bootcamp control panel. It not showing up in the list of OS's when we boot the machine. any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you are not seeing the OS X partition while holding down the option/alt key during a restart, it appears your Boot Camp installation damaged the OS X partition, which is probably why it is not showing up in the Boot Camp control panel.
Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then select the Macintosh HD partition and re-install the OS.

  • Windows 7 boot key not showing up in boot menu.

I have installed the Windows 7 ISO to a flash drive to use on boot up, using the instructions here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5488789?tstart=0
I have a Late 2009 iMac and the optical drive is broken; that's why I had to use those instructions and intend to use a boot key.  However, when I boot up with the option key, the only options presented are Macintosh HD and Recovery HD.  No Windows boot or EFI boot to be found.  Does anyone know why this might be?  I have gone through the partitioning process in Boot Camp Assistant.  I really don't know why it's not showing up.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

    Christopher,
I can't think offhand of why it would not come back like this (but if you have configured ZPM to use content-repo to store its bundles I would recommend getting http://download.novell.com/Download?...d=f0VuQBxq8DI~ as that fixes problems where a patch isn't cached, even though it thinks it is). Does the patch status tab show any errors? Otherwise we're basically going to need to look at logs...

  • Optical Drives Not Showing Up in Boot Menu / HDD

why doesn't  my  dvd rom drive  show up in boot menu in my HP ENVY DV7-7250US with window 8  and how do i fix the problem could it be the dvd drive gone  bad /  i ordered   recovory disk  from hp i am wondering if i ccan i use the recovery disk on a brand new HDD ??

    Hi:
In order to boot from a DVD, you need to change some BIOS settings.
Please read this info for what BIOS settings to change so you can boot from a DVD:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03736054&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_us...
You should be able to use the disks on a new HDD as long as the storage size of the new HDD is at least as large as the one you replaced.

  • BIOS NOT INSTALLED message on boot

Help! I have just put together a new (used) system with a P4 2.88 Ghz cpu & MSI 875 NEO FSR mainboard and I get the message 'BIOS NOT INSTALLED' on boot immediately after the first line. (before POSTS?) ANyway, it doesn't seem to stop or impede the system in anyway but is just an annoyance. Any advice would be very welcome. Thankyou, Chris

Like pharao said, you need to go into the BIOS & disable the Promise chip if you're not using it.  I used to get the same message & it puzzled the bugger out of me.

  • Bios not showing speed

i was overclocking my winchester this weekend and when going over 255fsb, in the bios, in the cell menu it would not say the speed or the mem frequency, like it would be odd thing like 0.05 or something i don't remember well.  anyways it booted into windows well, cpuz got the right speed so did clockgen, but i'm just wondering why it doesn't show up right inthe bios?
do you guys have any idea why this might happen?

  • LVM drives not showing on sucessfull boot (/root is on lvm)

I really don't know how this is possible but I have my system booting. It works fine till it makes it to checking filesystem then it complains that it can't find device /dev/mapper/array-root. That is the location of the root filesystem the one it's booting. It then drops me to a maintenance shell. I went into /etc/fstab and changed the pass on my 2 lvm mounts to 0 and I now boot into a working system.
When I check mount it shows that root is /dev/mapper/array-root
but when i go to /dev/mapper/ it does not exist.
    I have uselvm="yes" in /etc/rc.conf
I really don't know whats going on here it seems like it's not detecting the lvm volumes even though it's booting off one.
Any help would be really great.

Have you added 'lvm2' to your hooks array in mkinitcpio.conf?

  • Windows 7 partition not showing up at boot, but it appears within Disk Utility.

I have a Macbook Pro that's had 2 partitions for the past year. I created a 3rd partition yesterday and promptly deleted it.
Ever since, I haven't been able to boot in Windows - Mavericks is the only option. Disk Utility shows my Boot Camp partition, and that partition still appears on my desktop as a mounted drive (with all files intact).
I rebooted in recovery mode to open Disk Utility. In the top left corner, I hit the Apple menu > Startup disk, and Windows showed up as a bootable drive. I clicked on it, had it restart into Windows, and it almost worked. A black screen with a line command showed up. It said "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key." No matter what I pressed, nothing happened, so I turned it off and back on into Mavericks.
I want to boot in Windows but have no idea what's stopping me. Any thoughts?

You could be seeing a Windows boot manager with XP and 7, but no, you can't do what you did and directly choose Windows 7. You can make it the default for Windows, use msconfig.

  • 10.4.8 and Airport Extreme - wireless con. not showing up on boot up

Ever since I installed 10.4.8, in order for my 2WIRE connecttion to show up in the "Internet Connect" drop menu on my desk top, I have to check off the "Internet Robustness" setting first, and only then will my airport extreme locate 2WIRE and connect.
I've engaged - and disengaged to see if it made any difference - the preference for "enable interference robustness in the Airpor>options pane. Made no difference. It's not a huge deal, but I wonder why the change. Any ideas?

Could be that a combination of the last OSX 10.4 security update and also
the AirPort Extreme updates have some effects on these subtle or not so
subtle differences in how the system works, now. Mine occasionally won't
work correctly with my desktop iMacG4 unless the Robustness setting is
turned on; and I have the nearby option to choose a wired connection
through the AEBS on the wall by my desktop computer, too. My iBook
seems to mostly just work; unless there is an AEBS or IP/DSL issue.
That kind of problem never used to happen and I'd just lose the wireless
without any understandable reason; at least now I know interference rob-
ustness setting appears to make a difference when it unexpectedly quits,
I have at least one more thing to toggle to see if I get it back; before I
start in on the DSL modem or other settings inside the AirPort Setup Utility.
The last thing if it does not work, is unplug the AEBS and/or ADSL unilt.
But, if you use a small straightened paperclip in the reset hole, you'd
have to check and rechoose settings in the AEBS; as it goes default.
Seems to me, once I uploaded to the AEBS from the iBook that runs
OSX 10.4.x, it was acting funky; but for awhile since another update
was done, it seems to work OK. Since the odd behavior messed with
the iMacG4 (10.3.9) I more often use it via ethernet from AEBS. The
iBook sees the wireless better than the iMacG4. Since both of mine
have Extreme wireless cards, I changed the AirPort's 802.11 to /g only.
That helped a bit and the desktop Mac on wi-fi doesn't drop as much.
I see no real answers to "fix" this; but there is some incidental evidence
that some newer spec wireless base stations may be coming soon to
an authorized reseller or through the authentic online source. Perhaps a
new answer is out there, in new hardware and software. I hope an update
will fix these little issues; I've had one AEBS for about three years and
it used to just work fantastically with OS 9.2.2 and standard airport, with
    dialup. Then I brought in Jaguar in the machines I had then, and Panther;
plus Tiger, and now two other Macintoshes plus a spare AEBS.
    Cross fingers?!

  • Burnt windows install disk not showing up in boot camp

im trying to install windows xp using bootcamp, but everytime i insert the windows disk, it reads it as a blank disk. i have mad a 30gb partition so im not over the 32gb, i had heard that was better for compatibility.
is there anything i can do to help it recognize the disk? or do i just have to buy an authentic one?

your mac seems to think you had installed windows before
do you have more than 1 partition on your drive, if so, boot camp assistant will not work
if not, restart your mac and do a pram reset
open disk utility and repair permissions twice
    open bca and try again

  • "Install Windows 7 or later version" check box not showing up in Boot Camp

I am following a Reddit guide to dual boot Windows 7 on my late-2011 MBP. I've done every step up to installing Windows 7, but there is no check box to "Install Windows 7 or later" in Boot Camp. I've tried several other resources but none mention this. There is a "Remove Windows 7 or later version" check box which has a description stating it can install a Windows partition as well, but when I select it and click to go ahead it only has a selection to remove a Windows partition. I hope I'm just having a brain **** here, because I've been at this for a minute and it's causing hair loss at 21. Haha.
Ohh, and here's the guide I'm following: http://sampower.ie/windows-7-on-mavericks-via-bootcamp-and-usb/

your mac seems to think you had installed windows before

  • Installed a RAID card in my Dell Inspiron 3847. However, the RAID BIOS does not show up and I cannot install Windows 7 to it.

That is basically a summary of the problem The Dell Inspiron 3847 does not come with RAID, so I tried installing a PCI-express 1x RAID card. However, the RAID BIOS never shows up. The HDDs show up when I install the RAID controller driver in Windows 7 setup, but I cannot install Windows 7. I am using an IOCrest SY-PEX40008 RAID card with a Silicon Image Sil3124 chipset.
I tried pressing the hotkeys for the RAID BIOS listed in the card's manual, but it seems to just cause bootup to freeze. BIOS also does not seem to detect the RAID card HDDs as boot options.
