Fat Player volume levels

Hi- I'm just wondering whether it's possible to set a volume level from source, individually for different songs in the Fat Player.
In my present arrangement, the four audio clips are for very different instrumental combinations and have different volume levels. So putting them in 4 different QT players was great because I could pre-set the volume fader on each one, for the opening volume.
I can see the advantages of the Fat player, but am wondering about this point.
Kay.

You can't set the volume for individual tracks in the player because it is using an XSPF playlist.
In professional recording we set the output level of each track to be the same and push this to the limit using a multi band compressor.
If your recordings are from different sources with different output levels, you need to load them into an audio editing application and reset the output levels to make them all the same.
To avoid distortion, you will have to reduce the level to that of the track with the lowest one unless you have some fairly sophisticated mastering tools.
The problem with applications like GarageBand is that people can make recordings without actually knowing anything about the subject!
Recording techniques and tools have progressed a lot in the last few years. When ripping CDs and putting them on an iPod, I notice a large difference in output levels between old and new - even between new and new!
Pop and Rock are usually pushed to the limit by the over enthusiasm of "sound engineers" whose clients want loud rather than quality.
I was listening to an album by Alison Krauss recently. That's how recordings should be made and mastered! I compared this to Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits which, in technical terms, is horrendous.
Loudness, volume and level are three different things and tend to be misused.
Volume is passive and can only be cut.
Level is active and can be boosted or cut.
Loudness requires the manipulation of the individual frequencies.
You probably don't want to hear all this but a basic understanding of sound and recording techniques will help you to get better reproduction on your website.

I have a new ZEN NANO PLUS that I have bought in Spain.
I?ve had this model before and I know that, because of the EU ruling ( **bleep** those bureaucrats! ), the volume level is not as loud as the model you can buy in the US.
A few people have suggested flashing the firmware and installing the US firmware, has anyone tried this, and did they have any success?
I downloaded the US firmware and tried to install it on my player but no luck, and the player died aswell, but I?m not sure if I did the correct thing...
If anyone knows anything about this any info would be greatly received.
    Thanks in advance

You shouldn't have problem using both player together in MediaSource even in transferring audio files(non-protected content). Are you referring to being able to playback PlayForSure subscription content? I doubt it is possible(personal opinion) for the player since I believe it's more to do with the hardware rather than software.

  • Which EQ setting + volume level is the most 'clear'?

    Hi
Just got an iPod Classic this week (my first ever Apple Product other than iTunes). It's replacing a 30G player from another company from 2006 (ran out of room) that had really good sound. With a simple pair of JVC Marshmallow earbuds, the right mid-volume and the right EQ setting, I could hear all the musical instruments clearly and somewhat equally and the singer's voice was clear as well, as if we were in the same room.
I'd like to recreate this with my iPod Classic but I've noticed the EQ isn't customizable (unless I'm missing something) and that with some of the iPod's EQ settings I can hear instruments clearly but the vocals sound muffled, almost like they're dubbed from another source. But there's other settings (Vocal) where the singer comes in clear but the instruments are muffled in that dubbed way. I've tried Flat and Off but results with those vary.
My old player's EQ was set at a reverse of the iPod's Rock setting, lowest bars on the outside and highest in the middle. Is it possible to load an EQ setting like that from iTunes? If you can download a game, can you download an EQ setting?
AND is there a certain volume level where that 'same room' clarity shines through? Anything lower than 11 out of 20 on my old player and it would lose that clarity (anything higher than 13/20 was too loud). 12 was just right. If that makes any sense.
Or could it have something to do with how a song is ripped from a CD? Which is what my music collection started out as.
I'm hoping someone can help and shed some light on this for me. I got it engraved so I can't exactly return it. haha

Most audiophiles, switch off the iPod Classic EQ as it is crap, most probably designed by some team who like bubble-gum music. but if you must use, create a custom EQ presets
    read this forum

But try not to boost up greater than zero db, the new iPod audio chipset don't like it, your music will sound like something from some Oriental Opera, of course, unless you like the metallic tin highs.

  • Automatic adjusting of the volum level

Does anybody know in witch way/how the player does the automatic adjusting of the volum level? How does the automatic adjusting of the volum level work? Is it just the decibel that is "normalising"? How does the player measure it? Are the frequenses exactly the same in a song/tune after the automatic adjusting?
Is there anything else in the sound that is influenced in any way?

  • 5800 Volume Level

    Hi,
I recently bought nokia 5800. I use Bose on ear headphones for my device. The volume level is too low when compared to ipod or iphone. I would like to increase the volume output level of my phone. Can anyone help me or suggest a suitable software for it. If it is not possible i have no route other than selling it. Please help.
I did try to find some music player but it didnt workout well. Help me to solve this issue.

Nokia stopped its production recently, it is still considered as one of the loudest phones through speakers, not with headphones I believe. Nokia did such volume burst in one phone (through HPs), that is still asked to compare whenever a latest phone is released, that is Nokia N91.

  • Volume leveling firmware update request

I once had an old mp3 player that would automatically adjust all songs to match an equal playback volume level. However, on the iPod Classic 80 GB model, my songs play at unequal levels; I always have to turn the volume up for songs ripped from audio CDs. Could Apple release a software update to add the auto playback volume leveling to the iPod? Could this be included in Firmware version 1.1.3?

The program is run on the songs in the iTunes library, then the songs are re-synced to the iPod.
As far as I know, it can't be run on songs already on the iPod (at least iVolume, which is what I use can't).

  • Fluctuating volume levels during a track

'Ello. Has anyone else ever experienced the volume levels changing during a song? The only way I can describe it is it feels like someone's playing with the volume, lowering it for half a second before returning it to it's previous level. It only does it on a handful of tracks, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this? Could it be an earphone/headphone problem? Any help would be much appreciated. Rich

I have Windows 8.1 and this only happens with Spotify, not Songza, Amazon Cloud Player, or Pandora. It started happening just in the last week and I have no membory of downloading any new software.  I've played with disabling/enabling on Spotify:- View > Hardware Acceleration- Properties> Music Quality> High Quality Streaming- Advanced Settigns> Crossfade tracks- Advanced Settigns> Set the same volume level for all tracks On my PC's Sound settings I checked "Do nothing" in Communications and I tried different options with Beats, which was included with my laptop. Sound does NOT fluctuate using the app on my phone, so I can only assume it's either my PC or the PC application. I believe I've tried everything listed in this topic, but posting again in a last ditch effort before I have to end my subscription :(

  • Volume level on speaker/earphones

Is there anyway to increase the volume level.  I'm trying to watch a DVD on Windows Media Player and the sound level isn't adequate, either with the speakers or with noise-canceling earphones.

its probably a problem with the earphones or when you connect it to a external audio system such as speakers or earphones, it automatically adjusts it to the last volume setting that was connected with (e.g. if you connected your earphones to the 3rd volume and disconnect the earphones and reconnect it, it will go back to the 3rd volume level.)

  • MOV Volume Level

When I import recordings from my Vulkano device into iTunes, the videos are 20-30% louder than all my other videos. I do know how to adjust the volume in a MOV file, so that's not my question. My question is:
Can I view somewhere the current embedded default volume level of a video so I know exactly how much I need to adjust the volume?
    For example, can I...
    1. Open an iTunes Store video and a Vulkano video in this mystery app
    2. See that according to this mystery app the iTunes video volume is set at "6" but the Vulkano video volume is set at "8"
    3. Use Quicktime (or in my case probably Subler) to adjust the volume of the Vulkano video until it is at "6" according to the mystery app
    Thanks!

    Adam -
In your System Preferences there is a panel called
'Sound.' It's typically in the second row of prefs at
the far rights, the last one I believe.
Check that your Output Volume is not slid way over to
the left. In the Output tab check that your speakers
    are balanced.
The output tab is the one controled by the buttons on my keyboard. I know that the problem has to do with iTunes because when I click on an imported song, it says "-13 DB" under volume. when I burn that song, it plays a lot quieter than the original CD on the same player in the same format.
I know this is pretty basic stuff I'm giving ya here
but sometimes it's the stuff right in front of us
    that can cause problems! : - )
Are you playing thru your computers built-in
speakers? Don't expect much volume or quality there.
If you play to external speakers, do they have volume
control knobs that you perhaps might want to adjust?
I play my music through a variety of players, all of which have sound adjustments. But when the same song is played, one burnt with iTunes and the other the original, the iTunes one sounds a ton quieter.

  • DVD volume levels dip as sound peaks

This is driving me mad and I'd really appreciate some kind of explanation. Perhaps one of you guys can help? If I'm watching a DVD on my iBook and an obtrusive sound is fired off (a gunshot for example), the volume levels appear to plummet. This can be DAMNED irritating, especially when the volume dies in the middle of a conversation because someone on-screen flicked open a lighter or something.
I tried watching Casino Royale tonight and encountered the problem reasonably early in the film, with the first gunshot. I tried resolving the problem by disconnecting my JBL Creature II speakers and using my Sennheiser HD 485 headphones. Still the same problem (although perhaps not as noticeable). I decided to try out the Sennheisers with my Griffin iMic and watch the same part back again. Once again the same problem.
I did a little research on the Internet and I can't seem to find anything relevant. It's really winding me up. Unfortunately, I don't have another DVD player to try it out on at the moment. I presumed it must be a lazy bit of DVD encoding on the manufacturer's part, but the problems have been noticeable in both Casino Royale and Mullholland Drive in particular.
Is my iBook's circuitry starting to suffer or is this a common problem? Is it the disc? I don't notice any problems with iTunes. Is there some kind of auto-volume option I have turned on that I don't know about?
    Cheers for reading.

Is there a reason why you don't use Sound Check on both iTunes and your iPod? The one thing I have read is that you need to update your songs on your iPod when you turn on Sound Check in ITunes, for them to to take affect on your iPod.
The volume setting you're using in the individual song(s) should not affect the output level through the universal dock, but as you are noticing it does change the volume on your earbuds. Not exacly sure why the dramtic increase in volume though.
I suggest you try putting the volume on the songs you changed back to default, and use Sound Check on both iTunes and your iPod. Try a couple songs, see what happens.
And again, in order for this to work properly, according to Apple, you need to reload all your songs on your iPod after you have turned this on in iTunes.
    Good luck!

  • Unhappy with max volume level of ZEN NANO P

Does anyone know how I can increase the volume level of my Zen Nano Plus.
At the moment it goes to 25, but it is still quite low.
Is it something to do with the way the mp3s are ripped or can I change something on my MP3 player?
    Thanks for your help!
    Neil

As I stated in my earlier post, I don't have a Zen Nano Plus - I have a Zen Vision:M. Replacing the EU firmware with the US version has worked in this case - as it also did with my previous player (a 4GB MuVo^2). It has also worked with my friend's Zen Sleek Photo.
There is no real reason why the firmware will not work, as the player's hardware is the same in both territories. Therefore, I can only put the problem down to a problem with the firmware update.
Try replacing the battery with a fresh one (to ensure there is power) and follow the instructions on the <a href=http://us.creative.com/support/kb target=_blank>Creative KnowledgeBase[/url] for updating the firmware, as there is a recovery procedure outlined.
The Solution ID is 265 - you can also find it as number 7 on the 8 most common solutions after selecting the Zen Nano Plus from the list ("Updating firmware for MuVo N200 or Zen Nano Plus"). You will need to redownload the firmware updater program from the Creative US website if you have deleted it.Message Edited by Lokiz0r on 07-2-2006 0:03 PM

  • SUCH LOW MUSIC PLAYER VOLUME FOR SUCH A COSTLY PHO...

I have recently bought an N95 8GB.Well the phone seems ok but I simply do not understand why the volume of the Music player in the headset is at such a low level?I also own an N91 8gb & comparing the music player quality, all of you here can understand the vast difference between them.I understand that N91 is a music player alright, but isnt the N95 8GB supposed to be a feature-rich multimedia phone (AS NOKIA ADVERTISES??).Such a bad music player volume for such a costly phone?

I'm not suggesting you to do anything
I was just trying to explain why the volume levels have been dropping. In some cases it may be that the same volume levels are set for devices globally.
I'm not sure if India has adopted the same recommendation for output audio pressure as in Europe, so I don't know if it's mandatory in India.
The EU recommendation is supposed to be in line with recommendations from health experts.
    SEE HERE:
    http://www.luxuryhousingtrends.com/archives/2007/10/noise_canceling.php
Exposure to high audio levels of more than 45 min. per day could result in temporary loss hearing to even permanent damage (depending on how loud the volume is). This is of course not new.
The best thing you could do to enjoy the music yet at the same time protect your ears is:
    a) Buy a set of active noise canceling headphones.
    b) Buy a set of in-ear headphones and use foam pads (like the Sure e2, e3, e5 series or other brands)
    c) Buy a set of protective headphones. The type construction workers use. Basically you put your Nokia headphones then you put the protective headgear on top of them. The protective headgear blocks the outside noise.
    http://www.precision-sports.com/peltor_elect.htm
Of course there are also drawbacks to blocking outside noise.
If you are walking you may not hear cars or other hazards. And you should never drive with headphones anyway, it's way too dangerous as you can't hear other cars, ambulances, etc.

  • [solved]Command line script to equalise volume levels of all mp3 files

    Hello guys,
I have a bunch of mp3 files within a folder. Unfortunately they have unequal volume levels. Some of them are far too low, others too loud.
Is there a simple command line script to equalise all of them?
    Regards
    Robert

I remember I found such a script a long time ago. I suppose it still works, here it is http://codepad.org/MLu1iscD. Please tell me if it works for you. By the way, it depends on mp3gain and python2-eyed3.
ps: As far as I can see, this script doesn't change the mp3 files itself, but stores the new volume in the id3 tag. This means, that you won't corrupt your files in any way, but the player needs to be able to get the volume information and adjust it. The script measures both the album and the track gain. Which one is used can be configured in the player.

  • N8 Volume Levels

How is your experience with N8 volume levels both in external(rear) and internal speaker? I find it to be somewhat low. As in at full volume I cant get the sound to be jarring or anything close to it. It just seems about adequate at full volume without any signs of the speaker straining at full volume. This is strange to me. Ipods at full volume you surely hear LOUD stuff which is just beyond your comfort zone. I almost suspect its a fault in the handset. Also the music player app doesnt seem to have any internal volume control? Is this correct behaviour?
    Anyone else experience this?

This is an interesting subject .... I recently got a Sansa Clip (great MP3 player for the price) but the volume at max was pitiful. A search on the internet showed that due to an EU directive (I think) the volume was capped.  I found instructions to reset the device and instead of Europe enter USA during the setup process. I did just that and now the volume is fine - much louder. So ... this may be a legal requirement imposed on us (and Nokia) by our elders and betters (HAH).
    Extract from another website;
"Finally, your comment on European Union iPods. You are correct, all iPods (and all other makes of mp3 player) sold within the European Union (EU) countries have lower volume output than those sold in the rest of the world. This is because the EU has decided that we should be protected from ourselves."
So iPods seem to be subject to this as well - from my knowledge it applies to any device capable of playing sound - and I suspect this includes mobile phones.
The regulations have been introduced as listening to 85db for more than 40 hours a week, or 89db for more than 5 hours per week have been shown to have long term damaging effects on hearing.  Given the fact that on public transport I can regularly here the music (from so-called personal devices) of half a dozen young people round me, I wouldn't be surprised if half the population currently at teenage is deaf by the time they are 30.

I am wondering if there is a way that I can transfer my tracks to my player making the volume level constant between all tracks. I don?t think media source can? So, now with Play For Sure, is there something out there that will do this? Will Notmad?
