Can I get some help? I can't get the Acrobat XI Pro to open...I get the Fatal Error Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server.

You already setup a discussion for this, no need to create more. It has only been an hour since your last post. Considering this is Sunday, you may have to wait a while, though it really comes down to when someone with an answer happens to stop by. We are just users, not employees of Adobe (that is why it is called a user-to-user forum). I remember seeing posts on this in the past and suggest you do a forum search for past posts. I do not have the solution at hand.
There are several posts under "DDE Server Acrobat Installation" search.

  • Adobe Reader 9.1 - Fatal Error : Acrobat failed to connect a DDE server

    Hi Everyone,
I have some users telling me that when they try to open a pdf attachment in Outlook 2007. Nothing happens. The system just sits there as if you did not click on the attachment. If you wait long enought a popup box from adobe reader comes up and says:
    Fatal Error
Acrobat failed to connect a DDE server.
All the PDFs are very simple, just simple scanned images or converted over from a document into a PDF.
I've tried repairing the install and still had no luck - same behaviour. The only way the pdf opens is if we go into task manager and close the AcroRd32.exe process or logoff and log back in.
If it helps, the most recent system change was the upgrade to IE7 and a new anti-virus software.
    Thanks,
    KEvin

No solution I am afraid but same problem, running full version of AVG and problem hit immediately after Adobe Reader 9.1 upgrade.  Pretty darn sure problem is in the upgrade but the relevant Restore Point was overwritten before I figured it out.  Any advice welcome.

  • I have Acrobat XI on a PC and have received a Fatal Error message indicating that "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE Server."  Acrobat will not open now.  How do I regain access to the program?

I have Acrobat XI on PC.  After trying to convert a webpage to PDF, I received a Fatal Error message indicating that "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE Server."  Now, the program will not open.  How do I regain access to the program?

I have Acrobat XI Pro and have been experiencing all sorts of "freeze ups" with it ever since Adobe released the new Acrobat DC the other week.  I see that an automatic update was pushed down to my Acrobat XI Pro at the same time.  Is this the first issue you have encountered with your Acrobat XI, or have you been having other issues suddenly as well??  Just wondering ...

    Hi Bruce,
Please open registry by typing "regedit" in the Run window (Windows + R)
Now, navigate to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\acrobat\shell\open\ddeexec\application and changing the Key from "AcroviewA10"  to  "AcroviewR10.
Now, try launching Acrobat and let me know if the issue resolves.

  • I get a error message "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE Server.

I bought a copy of Adobe Acrobat XI and installed it on my computer.  It worked good for about a month.  Than it would not load the program so I could.  I tried to open as the adminstrator and the program still does not open.  I ran a troubleshooter and it said"Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE Server".  What can I do to fix this problem so Acrobat XI will run?

    Hi Chuckn96,
Thank you for posting on the Adobe forums, kindly refer to the URL mentioned below. I have tried answering it there.

  • Fatal error Acrobat failed to connect to DDE Server

I just purchased the Adobe Acrobat xI Pro & installed. I get a Fatal Error message when I try to open the program. I am running Windows7. What is the problem?

    Hi HP2,
Try launching the application as Administrator and check.
Also update Acrobat to the latest patch i.e. v11.0.08 and check.
You might also want to repair Acrobat from the Control Panel> programs and check.

  • Q: What does this error message mean and what's next: Acrobat [(XI (11.0.06)]: "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server"?

    Acrobat Reader

Sorry, I didn't read your question carefully, so my earlier reply is incorrect.
You need to make a change to the Windows registry:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\acrobat\shell\open\ddeexec\application: change "AcroviewA10"  to  "AcroviewR10"
To do this automatically, download ddeexec.zip, unzip it, then double-click on the extracted file to run the registry script.

  • Getting error message: Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE Server

Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Assuming that you are on Windows, this requires a registry change.
Download, unzip, then run this registry script: https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/11a8c69c-c042-4e86-9401-e2cf3fd038b7

  • "acrobat failed to connect to a dde server" when in citrix

Hello there.  The Citrix environment that we run in our company uses Acrobat 9.3, as does the employees.  I have one customer that is getting the above error off and on throughout the day.  He states that he can open a few .pdf files in the morning, but that as the day goes on, he starts getting the error.  I have done a repair on his Acrobat, I have also done a complete reinstall of the program.  At one point, I tried Acrobat X but it is still happening.  I do not know of anything else to do.  I have looked on the internet but I have not seen anything that is helping me with this fix.
    Thank you,
    Jeremy

Network connections have not been discussed as an issue for some time. As I recall, Citrix was one of the problem networks. If the user copies the files to his/her harddrive, I assume they work fine. In that case, compare your network setup with a machine that works fine. I have no idea what the issue with the networks were, but it used to be a big problem. As I recall, there was some comment about Acrobat folder use with the network.
Maybe that will help you search for a possible solution. If not, then good luck as you pursue the issue.

  • Acrobat Failed to connect to a DDE Server

I am using Adobe Acrobat Professional 9.2 and have started to receive this error after opening a few PDF's and once this error starts to show, cannot see the document, ie. It will not open the document.
If I restart the computer then it will go back to working for once again a short period of time until I get this error again. Very consistent with the error.  I can open usually 3 to 4 documents before it stops working properly.
Let's see if Adobe is once again paying any attention to us little guys out here. Sorry, but have had many problems with CS4 products across the board. Help us Adobe, it would be a good idea.  If I ignored these types of errors in my coding, I would be fired and/or removed from the project(s).

Hi!  I am having an identical problem as swmyer.  I uploaded Adobe Acrobat Professional 9.2 two days ago, and have been incuring this result.  My computer is brand new, absolutely no extra software accept office is running.  Would appreciate anything you can do to help resolve this quickly.
