I actually got the same error on my other system too, but then I deleted all the partitions, which is not really an option on this system. What is causing this problem?

Oh, ok then, that makes sense ... I don't know the reason to align partitions to cylinders but there must be a good reason, although even if they are not aligned it shouldn't be a big problem (at least gparted allows you to create unaligned partitions).
Personally gparted is not my first choice when dealing with partitions, it already scared me _big time_ and even if linux doesn't complain about partitions not being in the order they are on disk some programs complain about that (and gparted does make a mess out of that) and even refuse to do anything before they fix that (partition magic for example, and I've never lost any data or even got scared when using it).
Lately I have been doing it like this, create the partitions with cfdisk which leaves everything in a way no program complains, then I format the partitions with mkfs.whatever or I use gparted just to format the partitions, I've never had problems when doing things like that.
The last time I've used gparted to resize partitions things went well but on another occasion it did make a huge mess out of the partition layout (there were ntfs partitions involved when it went wrong, and only ext3 when all went well) leaving me with a problem similar to what you have now, luckily testdisk came to the rescue but I reckon I was just lucky that time.
I've learned my lesson, _always_ make backups or copy things to another disk, besides being probably faster (as gparted does a ton of checks) it is a lot safer and if you have really important stuff on your hard disk you can't afford to be relying on the chance of not loosing it in the process.

Fatal error - bad logical partition 8 : enlarged logical partitions
Hi,
I am trying to install Arch after being an Ubuntu user for approximatley two years.
I re-formatted my drive to create an ~20Gb space in an ext4 extended partition since my previous would not allow more than four primary partitions.
I am trying to triple boot: Win XP, Ubuntu, and Arch.
I had read that one swap space would work, however I seem to now have three!
I partitioned ntfs for Win XP, then Ubuntu root, Ubuntu Home, Swap (2Gb), then left ~20Gb for Arch.
However the output from Gparted now states I have three swaps! I cannot install Arch due to the error message:
'Fatal error - bad logical partition 8 : enlarged logical partitions overlap'
Is there a way of resolving this without re-formatting everything again, since I have spend hours setting up Win XP and Ubuntu to how I want them.
I only use Win XP to manage my ipod and use Ubuntu as my primary OS. However, I recently found that by setting up Arch will teach me a hell of a lot about Linux OS which is my goal.
Thanks in advance!

I found an old topic(http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=33916) on this problem but the solution was
try cfdisk -z /dev/device. However, this will wipe all your partitions.
I would like to keep my partitions as they are. Somebody suggested using testdisk for Windows to repair the bad partitions but I'm not sure of how to use it. Can anybody help me please? Thank you!Are you still frustrated because of cfdisk which gives you something like this:
FATAL ERROR: Bad primary partition 3: Partition ends in the final partial cylinder
Press any key to exit cfdisk
Here, I'm trying to install archlinux on a pendrive and I get almost the same error when trying to manually format the disk. The only difference is that it mention partition 0 instead of partition 3... I guess there is a bug in the livecd?
I'm having this problem with archlinux-2010.05-core-i686.iso.

Partitions, installing , raw- no_fs and "Bad primary partition"
I have been using Archlinux with kde-mod, installed with the Chakra live-cds for some time on a couple of different machines. You may be aware Chakra has now moved away from archlinux to roll it's own distro so this is my first attempt to install "The Arch Way".
I have an HP dv6t-2000 laptop, preinstalled with Windows 7, though I'm really fed-up with Windows at this point I do want to keep it installed on the machine.
The setup of the hard drive is currently (as shown in the Windows7 partition utility):
SYSTEM NTFS 199MB (System, Active, Primary Partition)
C: NTFS 394.12GB (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)
RECOVERY (D:) NTFS 12.85GB (Primary Partition)
(there used to be a partition titled HP_TOOLS which I deleted a while ago (that may have been a mistake, I don't think I backed it up, I think it was last time I got really pissed off with windows and wanted to install Linux immediately)
What I have trid doing, starting with the configuration as above it:
> using the windows utility to shrink the C: partition to make space
> booting into gparted live CD
> creating an extended partition
> creating boot (ext2), root (ext4), home (ext4) and swap partitions within this
> booting the archlinux 64 bit netinstall CD
> when I get to Prepare Hard drive - manually configure I see something like:
/dev/sda raw->no_fs
/dev/sda1 raw->no_fs
/dev/sda2 raw->no_fs
/dev/sda3 raw->no_fs
> If I go to manually partition hard drive for sda I get the message
FATAL ERROR: Bad primary partition 2: Partition ends in the final partial cylinder
At this point I'm getting tired and liable to do something reckless (like when I deleted the HP_TOOLS partition), I I thought I better stop, take a breather and ask some people with more experience.
I'm sorry If I am short on details here, as I say I've spent a bit too long trying to sort this out and got tired and confused, I will fill in any details that are asked for, thank you for reading.`/dev/sda1 raw->no_fs` means "you didn't tell me what's on here yet", the installer should do some autodetection but this is not implemented yet. so don't worry about this, just leave them alone.
the other one, not sure -
Cfdisk fails on partitioning- bad primary partition
Hello. I'm trying to install Arch Linux on my notebook- Asmobile S96SP.
If I try to use manual disk partitioning, then I see black screen of cfdisk with this error:
FATAL ERROR: Bad primary partition 3: Partitions ends in the final partical cylinder.
Press any key to exit cfdisk.
I've got just one disk (250GB SATA), and 4 partitions on it.
I want to install Linux on E:.
What's wrong? Someone know how to resolve this problem?
Thanks!Ok, I fixed it by remove E: partition to make free space (unattached).
Now i've got the second problem. I hear "peep" from my notebook all the time. It's problem with ACPI, becouse if I disable acpi on startup, then i don't hear nothing. I found this: http://www.inliniac.net/blog/2008/07/25 … state.html
but i don't know how can i add to "options" file 2 processors, and how to update initrd on Arch.
/proc/acpi/processor/CPU1/
/proc/acpi/processor/CPU2/
Thanks for reply. -
Bad primary partition 1: Partion ends in the final partial cylinder
i just got a new laptop, dell inspiron 6400.
it's partition table is set up this way:
1) a 55 meg partition which is supposedly the dell boot utility
2) a 10 gig recovery partition that contains the completely original HD
3) a 81 gig partition which has Vista on it
4) a 2 gig partition for MediaDirect
i used dd to backup the 10 gig partition, and was about to install arch. cfdisk crapped out with the error message:
"FATAL ERROR: Bad primary partition 3: Partition ends in the final partial cylinder"
ok...i'm stuck. gparted is able to go in and see all the partitions as fine, and it can delete partition 2, but if i try to format a new volume, it craps out.
now here's the kicker. if i go into vista and into computer management, i can go there, format the 10gig to ntfs and it works fine.
any ideas? thanks.Does anyone know what else could be done than what is described here???

Fatal Error Message While attempting to Install :/
Hi,
I just purchased a new laptop and was hoping to wipe out Windows and install Arch. When I attempted to repartition my disk using the custom option - I got the following message:
Fatal Error: Bad primary partition 2: Partition ends in the final partial cylind.
I'm not sure what the second part of the message is trying to tell me.
If it helps this was the output from fdisk -l
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda/ 1 1036 8313856 27 unknown
/dev/sda2 * 1036 1048 102400 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda3 1048 30402 235780280 7 HPFS/NTFS
Any help would be greatly appreciated - what it means and what I might be able to do to fix it and move on
I have heard a lot of good things about Arch and I'm bound and determined to find a way to get Arch installed.ppss,
I burned an image from another distribution and then used their installation program to create new partitions for Linux. I'm sure you could use gparted and other programs as well. I would goggle "Linux & partitioning" or Linux & partitioning tools" I'm sure you will find multiple ways to solve the issue. I'm not sure what the message was about but I was able to install a Linux distro (not Arch sadly, but that is due to another unrelated problem, I'm trying to work through) on my laptop without issues - so it wasn't a hardware issue.

I have a PC with two identical Western Digital 750 GB S-ATA drives. The drives are in perfect working order. I have installed Debian and Slackware on them fine. Now when I go to install Arch and select the drives using 'cfdisk', I get this error:
FATAL ERROR: Bad primary partition 1: Partition ends in the final partial cylinder - Press any key to exit cfdisk.
I then tried to install Ubuntu, works. I install Debian again, it works. Why does Arch or cfdisk not allow me to partition my drives?THCMyst wrote:Have you tried using fdisk? I had an issue with this using cfdisk, and as weird as it sounds, I used fdisk to partition, went back into cfdisk, and everything was in order. Not sure how that works, but it's a suggestion to try.
That can and will cause problems if cfdisk is invoked afterwards. cfdisk is very strick when creating partitions or dealing with a disk with a partition table, in a way that is good, some partition managers (an example is partition magic) will completely refuse to do anything on a disk that does not have a very strict partition layout.
Linux will boot from pretty much any partition and partition layout and will not complain at all, but older versions of windows (I don't have experience with anything newer than xp) can be quite picky and have problems with "uncommon" partition layouts (such as extended partitions mysteriously vanishing) which cfdisk avoids.
Like I have said before, if there is no need to edit the partitions (as in partitions created before running arch's installer) then selecting the partition, filesystem and mountpoint should work without problems. -

SubbuHi Jeremy
We are on Version 12 build 75.
In xMII workbench, when I click on Actions and then ERP system interface, SAP JCo interface, I right click and configure for a particular R/3 with CSEP (mentioned above) RFC name and search pattern after configuring for this r/3 I quit and come back to click on Links, here under requests or links I dont get any fatal error.
But for the same CSEP ** when I do for another R/3 system and click on links and under requests and reponse I get a Fatal error listed.
and when I place the cursor over the request I get the following message.
fatal error , jco proxy error, Inavlid_character _error. An invalid or illegal XML character is specified.,</Fatal error>
Any help appreciated! -

Power Mac G5 DP1.8GHz - Bad Logic Board or Power Management Issue?
I have a Power Mac G5 DP1.8GHz/1.5GB/80GB which I bought non-working. It has not yet been disassembled or examined by a certified tech. This is it's issue (which replicates): the computer powers on. It makes a single warning tone, then the LED flashed at least 15 times (too fast to count). Then the posting chord is heard. Hard drive spins up. Then nothing (no video). Won’t boot from any disk. I have changed the RAM and tested the RAM banks with known-to-be-good RAM from another DP1.8GHz G5. The warning tone stopped once or twice after this switch, but then it didn’t chime. I changed the PRAM battery, but not with as new one. However, after installing the used one and then resetting the PMU, it displayed video briefly for the first time. While installed in the other 1.8GHz G5, the hard drive was formatted, given a clean install of OS X 10.4.11, and then moved into this computer where is never mounts. The computer is not accessible through TDM.
Do I have a bad logic board? Bad CPUs? A power managment issue? A RAM issue?Through my own trial and error troubleshooting, I have found the CPUs to be in good working order and the logic board passes the Apple Service Diagnostic every time. Despite the installation of numerous pairs of modules that worked in another DP1.8GHz, the computer has a RAM issue-it gives the "no good RAM" tone most of the time when it powers up (after a PMU reset it does not). Also the computer boots from disk or into Open Firmware but the disk utility can't see either hard drive so I may have a bad SATA controller.

Can we call default.lgf in BADI logic
Hello All,
can we call default.lgf logic script to run in the BPC in the BADI ? If yes then can someone please let me know the relevant Method or Class etc.
For e.g. we have a BADi logic that does a data push from Profit model to Main model based on some conditions. After all this processing in the BADi and writes to Main model, there is a requirement to run the default logic which is there in Profit Model. Which I want to handle in BADI itself after processing the earlier BADI.
If you need more details please let me know.
Many Thanks

Hi experts,
I need to implement customized COGI error reprocessing logic <i>(errors related to automatic batch, valuation type, and posting date redetermination). </i>
Could you please let me know if there are any existing FMs/BADI/BAPI where I can code to implement the reprocessing logic.

Can't boot G5, bad logic board?
G5 Dual 2.0 Ghz, 4 GB Ram
Can't get past blue screen unless I boot in safe mode, then I can get in.
Here's what I've tried:
5 different boot volumes, including Tiger and Leopard and a clean install
internal drives only, external drives only
reseated ram
zapped pram
zapped nvram
reset pmu
booted in single user mode, gets stuck at workaround bonjour unknown error 0
pulled out airport card, reseated airport card
tried just about everything, always stops at the blue screen with cursor
does this sound like a bad logic board or is there anything else I can try? thanksDear Mr. Jarrett,
Just analyzing: You're not able to boot normally from any installed system on any hard disk, but you can boot in the single user mode, are able to use AHT and the G5 even boots from the TechTool disk.
However, you do not state you installed those five systems mentioned recently, so the question is: How stable is your computer booted from a DVD (grey install disk or the TechTool bootable disk and are you able to do a fresh system install now?
I don't think your RAM chips are bad, but there could be a problem with (one of) the SATA cables connecting the hard drive to the logic board. Did you try both data cables (by using the second drive bay)? As you undoubtedly know a PowerMac cannot boot from an external USB drive, but having a bad internal data cable could also prevent starting up from a FireWire drive. And take a critical look at the four guide screws: are they well fitted?
From your description I understand you own a dual processor and not the late 2005 duo core G5. These computers are very different animals indeed.
Success and best regards,
Robbert

After an earlier attempt to move Logic from my other mac (OSX 10.6.8) with the migration assistant to my new mac with OSX 10.8.2. I've re-started the whole start up process by erasing the hard drive from the new machine and build it up from scratch. After a new "out of the box" start, I decided to install LOGIC from my disks : starting with my 2007 package Logic Studio 8 and upgrading with my Logic 9 package from 2009. When trying to start to install 2008 I got the error message : Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported.
What does this mean? HOw do I get this working under 10.8.2 as it works flawlessly under OSX 10.6.8. For sure I didn't buy a new machine to have OSX 10.8.2 but I suspect this is the roadblock to installing my logic package.
Help!Mark,
Sorry...
I completely lost the thread (I actually got confused between you and another poster on a another forum that was asking the same basic question) and somehow ended up thinking you were trying to install on a PPC Mac
My apologies and please ingnore those parts of my last post relating to the PPC Macs...
You have an Intel Mac and therefore Logic Studio 2 Boxed Upgrade set should install/run on your Mac without issue. As I said earlier.. you do not need to try and install from the original Logic Studio 1 /Logic 8 Boxed set...(It won't work anyhow because you have an Intel Mac and that version had a PPC installer) but just install from the Logic Studio 2 / Logic Pro 9 Upgrade Boxed setof DVDs instead...
Have you tried the "Make Disk Image" solution I gave earlier? That normnally works under such circumstances as what you are describing can happen when your DVD drive cannot read the DVDs correctly... I have had this situation myself where one drive read them okay and another failed to do so for whatever reason. Making and then installing from Disk images of those exact same disks resolved the issue for me...
You can try to reinstall directly from the DVDs of course though under some circumstances it may not allow you to reinstall Logic Pro itself if that part of the original installation attempt was successful... in which case you can also try this... (It's probably the easiest method if Logic 9 was already installed and present in your Apps Folder)
If the Logic Pro App is in your applications folder..
Run Software Updates to update Logic Pro to a version that will run under 10.8.2 (The initially installed version of Logic will not)
Run Logic
Go to the menu bar in Logic and select Logic Pro/Install Additional Content and select all content in there..
This content is basically exactly the same as what is stored on the remaining DVDs of the boxed set so you might not need to use the rest of the DVDs to install from but download it all instead from Apple Servers...
