Fatal Trash Deletion - My Mini is Dead!

So, I have tried everything. PRam reset; fsck -fy; etc...
In verbose boot-up I get all kinds of kernel errors (e.g. it fails to register service "com.apple.kernelextensionsserver"; it says "matching fails".
There are many "matching fails"
This happened when I was securely deleting trash, and the system froze, so I did the typical panacea for macs -- the force-quit / shut down -- and it has never recovered.
The last line in verbose mode is that ".../nortonautoprotect.kextcache"): not a directory.
In single user mode, it appears that everything is there as would be if the GUI layer booted (as it does not). However, when I try and 'cd' to those directories/files, I get a 'not a directory' response.
A UNIX authority has suggested that this could be a permissions problem.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!
MEH

this is a forward to a person I have looking at it right now, and it seems there is some symmetry between what happened on my mac, and what my new macbook imported. this symmetry is significant because the 'transfer' function on the mac registered this transfer of my personal account as 'a ok'
I tried to run one of Norton's programs (live update for virus scan) and, although the icons were there, and the app started, and gave me some GUI, when I tried to ACTUALLY update it (clicking on the 'update everything now' icon), it said that i was 'missing crucial parts of the program' (OS X warning), and should 'consider re-installing'.

  • What do i do when my ipad mini is dead and wont charge

You know when your ipad mini is dead you hold the power and it will tell you to put your charger in, even when i put my charger in it still doesnt work.
SOMEONE PLZ HELP I AM SO SCARED

If you have a different charger, try it. If not, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store or Authorized Apple service provider to have the hardware checked.

  • How can I delete a mini-template and a template?

    Hi, guys.
Today I created some mini-templates and assigned them to a template for Sale area .
I am going to delete them now.
when I tried to delete the template, System mentioned " some mini-template have been assign to this template..."
when I tired to delete to mini-template, System mentioned" the mini-template has been assigned to ...template"
Could somebody tell me how to delete them, please?

    Hello Michael,
Please refer to the following SCN discussion.
    http://scn.sap.com/thread/1263262
As the template is in use you cannot delete it.
Try deleting the assigned sales area from template to BP and then delete the template.
    Thanks,
    Best regards,

  • How to get the space to clear after trash/delete

I've trashed/deleted files to clear space on both my Powerbook hard drive and an external hard drive, but the "space" isn't opened up. How do I finish the job of deleting, so gigs are freed up??? Thanks.

    Hi, nj.
...not sure how to do it for an external drive...
When you choose the "Empty Trash" command in the Finder, the Trash is emptied for all currently accessible volumes. So if your external drive was connected and mounted when you emptied the Trash, whatever was in the Trash from that drive was also deleted, along with whatever you had trashed from your internal drive.
If you double-click on the Trash icon to open its window, are the items you thought you had emptied still in there? If so, empty it again, then check again.

  • Mac mini probably dead

Could it be possible that for an human error my mac Mini went dead?
Let me explain: I needed to connect a Firewire printer to my Mac so I tryed to connect a 4-pin Firewire cable on the back of the mac (against what you should do) with the Mac powered on. Since I see that the connector did not fit, I return to screen and noticed that no image where any more. I try to startup and the switch does not function any more. I cannot power up my mac any more.
Is there a possibility that when I tryed to insert the cable, a short circuit made on the firewire connector of my Mac let it unfunctional?
Is there another way to test if it is burned? What can I do?
    Thanks for your replies.

If you tried to force a 4-pin Firewire connector into the 6-pin Firewire socket on your Mac mini, it's quite possible that you could have caused a short-circuit that damaged the Mac's logic board. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2622
If none of those help, then you will probably need to take your Mac in for service.
    Good luck.

  • What Became of Trash & Deleted Mail

Hi All, Just starting using, Leopard 10.5.3 & Apple Mail Version 3.3 (924).
When I used previous versions of Apple Mail there were 2 mailboxes, that now seem to have vanished with new version of Apple Mail, those are: Trash & Deleted Mail.
Trash is not in the list under Mailboxes:
    InBox
    Drafts
    Sent
I have: repaired permissions, re-started in Safe Mode, and still, there is no Trash icon, and no mailbox for Deleted Mail and re-started in Admin Acct.
    In Apple Mail Prefs>General>
"When searching all mailboxes, include results from:"
Each of the following boxes is checked: Trash, Junk, Encrypted
Junk Mail Filtering is not enabled.
    Thanks for your insight.

LOL..when I first deleted an email, I found there was no trash can! Next, I looked for "deleted messages", but could not find them. Even looked in Trash can on the dock.
Did both an Apple Mail & Spotlight Search for, the emails, all to no avail.
I also use Spam Sieve, and turned it off.
This iMac is new to me, so, I had used Migration Assistant to transfer everything via FW. Seemed to be fine. All my prefs, files, folders, settings, etc. made the move.
Luckily, I can recover what I accidentally deleted by going to verizon.net and looking at mail there.
Thanks for your interest & assistance.

  • Trash - Deleting a single file in the Trash

    Hello,
I am a new Mac user and I am having trouble deleting selected items already located in the trash-bin.
In windows i had the option of selecting either one or many items in the trash and "permenantly" deleting them. It seems that the mac trash-bin can only delete everything at the same time with out the option of deleting selected items.
What can i do to select and delete a single item with out emptying my whole trash can??

You cannot decide what to trash and what not to. It either all goes or it all stays. Windows has that feature because it doesn't trash things but has you put them in a recycle bin so you can decide later what to do. Seems stupid to me but then again I don't use Windows too often. (thank goodness)
I do not recommend that you use the trash as a storage location. Do you store things in the trash can at home?
If you are unsure as to whether to throw something away or not just put it in a folder labeled with an appropriate name until you decide to keep it or not. Many a file has been accidentally trashed and lost forever because it was stored in the trash rather than a proper location. Just my opinion.

  • How to recover the boot.bfi files from the trash in mac mini

    Hi All,
Just i deleted all files in my desktop. Once i restarted the machine. Its shows the apple logo and circle of doom. I tried to login in a single user mode after that i cant do anything in my system. Its shows error loading drivers sorry your boot.bfi files are stored in the trash...
Anyone can help me to solve the problem.

Assuming your Mini has the Internet Recovery feature, restart, press/hold the Command+Option+R keys until you see a spinning globe. Then reinstall Lion since that's the OS that shows in your profile. Your data and apps won't be touched. Only the OS will install on top of itself.

  • Trash deleting things immediately

Whenever I drag anything into the trash no matter what it is, even when it's not a locked file or over a network. These are all local files on my laptop's hard drive. Why am I getting the "This item will be deleted immediately. You can’t undo this action."
Sometimes I like to leave files in the trash because sometimes I change my mind and decide I want to keep them.
I've had Snow Leopard since the day of it's release and this never happened until today.

Sounds like you may not have write permissions to your Trash. Copy the following command, being careful to copy the whole thing and no more, and then paste it into the Terminal:
    ls -al ~/.Trash
What I see when I do this, with an empty trash, is this:
    drwx------ 3 thomas staff 102 Sep 9 13:25 .
    drwxr-xr-x@ 36 thomas staff 1224 Sep 8 15:09 ..
The first line shows the permissions on the trash folder itself. The 'd' means it's a folder (directory), then the 'rwx' in the next three positions means that I have read, write and execute permissions to my own trash. If you have a '-' where I have a 'w', that's your problem.
If that's it, then you can make your permissions look like mine by doing this:
    chmod 700 ~/.Trash

  • My iPad mini is dead. Please help. I have tried pressing the home and lock buttons, it just wont work.

    Hi,
Last week, whilst charging my ipad mini, I took a look at it was charged upto 91%. I then decided to let it continue charging till 100% and would unplug it then. 30 Minutes later, I returned to my charger to find a dead ipad.
I tried everything (including pressing the home and lock screen) but it would not wake up. I then promptly took it to the service centre at Plaza Singapura and the customer service personnel said I would either need to pay SGD 450 for a replacement or alternatively just leave it as it is, dead.
Hence, I am urging the person reading this message to kindly suggest a better solution to re-awaken my dead iPad and also my faith in the company.
    Thanks

If the Apple Authorised Service Provider has quoted you an out of warranty service fee then they have most likely found a hardware fault. If that is the case the iPad does need to be serviced, whether it is with the Service Provider or a 3rd party company is up to you. Keep in mind going with a 3rd party option can cause you to be denied serviced from Apple in any future services.

  • HT4972 We synced & updated my daughters phone for first time using my account. It deleted her contact list and inserted mine on her phone. Now she has been deleting the contacts but it is also deleting from mine! How do I get my contacts back?

I need help. I have an Iphone 3GS and so does my teenage daughter. I had not ever updated her until last night and I updated it using my Apple account. I did not think that I needed to make a separate account for her phone as the phone belongs to me and we share apps and such.
The update went well except all of her contacts were deleted. However, all of my phone's contacts were placed on her phone instead of her own. This was not a real problem for her as she did not have a great deal of contacts. But she did need to start delating mine from her phone. It was not until she had deleted all the way down to the H contacts that we realized as she deleted contacts from her phone, they were also delteing from mine!
I need help in retreiving all the contacts that she has deleted. There are important business contacts that I so did not want to lose!
What can be done? And how do we keep this from continueing to happen?

  • How can I delete all those ! dead files from iTunes without having to do it manually?

I recently merged 2 iTunes libraries into 1 on a PC. This has resulted in 1000's of dead files, notated by a ! (exclamation point). Does anyone know of a quick way of removing all of these without needing to spend many hours doing it manually?

    Lost & Found
Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist (it may take some time to count the tracks that are to be dropped). Create a smart playlist called Lostmatching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Found. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist. You should be able to select all the tracks in this playlist with CTRL-A and then remove them from iTunes with CTRL-SHIFT-DELETE.
Or use iTunes Folder Watch with its option to check for dead tracks on start up.
However if the broken tracks are duplicates of non-broken files then I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates, merge ratings, play counts and playlist membership, and remove dupes with dead links as long as there is one real file to merge the stats to. See this  thread for background. I also have a tool called FindTracks for fixing the broken links if the files are sill there but not quite where iTunes is looking for them. For more details see this thread.
