Fault View CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1

Hello
I upgraded the LMS 4.0 with LMS 4.0.1 but now the events are removed of Fault View. The equipaments than I am monitoring are: ME-3600, ME-3800 and ASR 9000. This is a configuration problem or I have to update something else?. Thanks.

Hi,
Are you running a proxy? CSCtk47472
Is your server both forward & reverse resolvable? Under \CSCOpx\bin, do reverse and forward lookup using resolver.pl:
\CSCOpx\bin> perl resolver.pl
\CSCOpx\bin> perl resolver.pl
Are all of your services running?  Please open a command prompt and execute 'pdshow -brief'.
Perhaps DFM & DCR are out of sync.  You can try to unmanage/manage all devices in DFM in order to force it to sync again.
Thanks

  • Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 – Fault Device Details Issue

We currently use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 but when I go into,  Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Fault Device Details
I get the following message (see attached document with screenshot) and being a LMS newbie am unsure what to do? As have tried to search for this
           file but no luck.
So thanks in advance for any advice.

Check if the fault management rediscovery page shows device as discovered and known or does it have any errors?
Are you able to generate any fault management reports and view other pages?
Just try to reboot the server/restart daemon to see if it is goes away.
Else it is mostly corrupt FM DB. Which would need to be re-initialized.
Fault Mgmt reinitialize is very simple task, which doesnt removes a lot of data, except past 31 days of FM history and custom notifications, if configured.
    Thanks

  • Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 – Email Notifications Issue

We currently use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 with over 1000 devices in the database. I'm a LMS novice. And have been assigned the task of minimising the amount of email notification’s we receive, as if one device goes Operationally Down all devices off that switch also send alerts to the email notification group, which in turn overwhelms the mailbox.
The ports are configured not to log or send snmp traps.
    no logging event link-status
    no snmp trap link-status
So any advice on how we can limit these alerts being generated would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Nessie,
Go to Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Fault Device Details
select the device and click on view  then Click on the hyperlink or the device name\ip address
that will bring a new window from there click on Interface and chanaged the Managed state from ture to FLASE for those interfaces for which you do not want ALERTS.
    Thanks-

  • CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 - some questions

    Hello community,
I would like to ask some questions about CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1.
We are using for a few days, and I can't set some request in the system. I hope someone could help me to customize the CW as I would like to use it.
    - We have some Catalyst 6500s, and between them there are Etherchannels. CiscoWorks sends us email because HighUtilization, and it relies on a Gi interface. I read that CW doesn't support etherchannels, is this true.
    - I would like to receive email notifications about errdisabled state, etc. I know this is dome by RME, not DFM. The CiscoWorks server acts as Syslog server, too, and it collects the syslogs. I see in the Syslog summary, that the device sends to CW the syslog, but I can't receive email. I did an automated actions, (Monitor-Syslog-Automated actions), I defined the parameters (Facility: *, Sub-facility: *, Severity: 2, Mnemonic: PSECURE_VIOLATION, Description: *), but CW doesn't send me an email.
    - I would like to customize interface threshould parameters per device. We have some router with Tunnel utilization 90%, but it's okay because we have a 10Mbit line for the external site. But when our distribution switch ethernet utilization would be 90%, it would be critical. Where can I set these parameters per device/interface?
Thank you for your help in advance.
    Ferenc KURIS

If you go to  Monitoring > Fault Settings > setup > fault device details
Select the device click view and click the device to open the detailed device view.
There you may see the tu interface under interfaces and set it to managed.
    Cheers,
    Michel

I got the following logs from the syslog server. My Ciscoworks LMS 4.2.2 (IP 10.26.73.1) keeps sending icmp to 128.100.3.221 and generated tons of logs. I checked the Ciscoworks but couldn't locate the IP of 128.100.3.221. Please help me stop the ICMP on the Ciscoworks. Thanks in advance.

You can unmanage or remanage device components using the Detailed Device View (cards, interfaces, ports, IP addresses, and so forth). If you unmanage a component, LMS will ignore subsequent events (including traps).
You can check the details here :

  • CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 - Could not generate the report

    Hello,
I am running CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 since 6 months and I wanted to generate today a report about the interface utilization on 2 Cisco switches (Catalyst 3750G). The corresponding job is created, it runs and then i get "succeeded with info" in the "Run Status" column. When I want to click then on the "View Report" link, I get the following error: "Could not generate the report. Either data is not available for the specified duration or the report job failed."
I tried the same procedure with 2 other switches but I have got the same result.
Does anybody has an idea of how I can fix this issue?
    Thanks a lot in advanced.
    Best regards,
    Marc Hoffmann

    Hi Marc,
I have this problem too. I rebooted my Windows but no solved. You known the service name responsible for this error? You have any other sugestion?
    Thank you !!!

  • Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 DFM Custom Traps

    Hello,
We want to use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 for Access Control List Monitoring. i.e. if we end the ACLs with "log" entry, we may send  the ACL deny logs to the Ciscoworks as Syslog or Snmp Trap format.
With "debug snmp packets" command we may observe the packets are sent to the LMS, but the traps don't show up as alarms. Is it possible to observe any trap entry with LMS DFM Fault Manager by customizing the module, because we think the engine of the DFM analyzes the traps and shows some of the traps, not all of the traps are observable.
The command output is as below:
    Thanks in Advance,
    Best Regards,
Mar  2 10:28:30.028: SNMP: Queuing packet to 10.10.10.1
    .Mar  2 10:28:30.028: SNMP: V1 Trap, ent ciscoSyslogMIB.2, addr 10.10.20.1, gen  trap 6, spectrap 1
    clogHistoryEntry.2.742 = SEC
    clogHistoryEntry.3.742 = 7
    clogHistoryEntry.4.742 = IPACCESSLOGDP
    clogHistoryEntry.5.742 = list 191 denied icmp   10.10.10.1 -> 10.10.20.1 (0/0),   10 packets
    clogHistoryEntry.6.742 = 69082382

DFM consumes the traps and decides based on its built-in code-book what to do - rise one of the predefined Events or just silently ignore it. The best DFM can do is forward the trap as-is to another trap receiver.
Perhaps the LMS Syslog-Server can do what you want and lauch automated actions (like scripts or e-mail) based on certain criteria.
But you should take care of the underlying syslog file and keep its size under control with logrot.pl utility.
The online help of LMS should give you more details on the syslog capabilities or this link to the LMS 4.0 Administration Guide:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.0/user/guide/admin/useNotif.html#wp1075603

  • Fault Monitor in LMS 4

    Hi all,
Ciscoworks LMS 4 is very complicated tool for me and it is very hard to configure any cisco device what I need to monitor.
Currently I have 3750-X configured, properly discovered and added to DCR.
I would like to receive SMTP messages(mail) from LMS if some event occurs. For example when link UPDOWN occurs or when LOGIN_FAILED occurs and so on. Is it possible to configure this?
I tried to configure it in Monitor > Monitoring Tools > Fault Monito, but without siccess. LMS tell me that there are no devices available.
How can I configure some notification so it is able to send me message via smtp?
    Thank you for answer.
    Jan

    Hi Joe,
check the below link for more results on Unidentified traps:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_device_fault_manager/3.1
    /user/guide/TrapFwd.html#wpxref57860
It looks like  "snmp-server enable traps syslog"  is enabled on your devices, and this will appears as Unidentified trap , you can stop this by change the configuration on the Device , or disable the "InformAlarm" from the notification Group under :     Admin > Network > Notification and Action Settings > Fault Notification Group      From the following Link you can check the traps that will generate "INFORM ALARM" event :
    I hope this will help
    Thanks-

  • Can't Ciscoworks LMS 4.2.2 back up the configuration of Cisco VPN 3000 concerntrator?

    Hi All,
In VPN 3000 concerntrator, I've enabled tftp, telnet, snmp. I've also successfully added the concerntrator into Ciscoworks LMS 4.2.2. All the ports are verified open to Ciscoworks. No question mark shows next to this device in the device management of LMS. However, when I run configuration Achive Job, I always get the following failed message. Can anybody tell me how to to back up the configuration of Cisco VPN 3000 concerntrator in Ciscoworks LMS 4.2.2? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but apparently not. Please see the supported devices table (here).
That table states, among other things:
The following features are not supported:
    Network Topology Layer 2 Services
    Fault Management
Configuration Deploy Protocols: HTTPS, TELNET, SSH, SCP, TFTP, RCP
Configuration Fetch Protocols: HTTPS, TELNET, SSH, SCP, TFTP, RCP

  • Installing Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 on Windows domain member server.

    Hello.
I'm looking for some suggestions about installing CiscoWorks LMS 4.0, and upgrade, on a domain member server running Windows 2008 R2 SE 64 bit.
    Thanks.
    Andrea

Here are the basic install best practices:
    1) Install as a local administrator (this means create a local account and add it
    the "Administrators" group).
    2) My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables
Set the USER TMP and TEMP to a shorten path like
    C:\Windows\temp
    3) Make sure you have FIXED pagefile size like 8182
My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Performance Options -> Advanced
    4) May need to reboot, certainly log out an back in to make sure step 2 applies.
    5) Stop all anti-virus and firewall during the installation.  Disable them in services and reboot if necessary.
    *  NOTES: Anti-virus can be re-enabled after installation, but you should  EXCLUDE
the NMSROOT directory as long as LMS is installed on the  server. DEP should
remain off (that is, set to only protect critical  Windows system files) as long as LMS
    is installed on the server.
    *  If Internet Information Services (IIS) is detected on your system and  if you have
continued the installation with IIS services, you cannot use  the port number 443 for
HTTPS. Instead, you must use the port numbers  ranging from 1026 to 65535 for
    HTTPS to avoid this conflict.
When performing the installation, make sure these two steps are followed:
    *  Install from original, locally attached media
    *  NEVER abort the installation after the installer says not to
It may not always be possible to install from original, locally attached  media
(especially on VMs). But you should avoid from installing over  the network as hiccups
can cause bad installations. If you are  installing on a virtual machine, convert the DVD
to an ISO image, then  mount that within the VM.
Here is the document detailing all ports needed to be allowed (excluded from policy)
    for LMS 4.0
    LMS 4.0 Port Usage
    General Notes:
If you want to upgrade the operating system from Windows 2003 or Windows
2008 to Windows 2008 R2, you must first complete upgrading the operating
system, and then install the LMS 4.0.x Windows 2008 R2 patch.
    *  You can install the LMS 4.0.x Windows 2008 R2 patch only on LMS 4.0.x
and not on the lower version of LMS.
    *  You cannot install Integration Utility and HP Open View 7.x or 8.x on
    Windows 2008 or Windows 2008 R2 servers.

  • CiscoWorks LMS 4.1

    Hi,
Currently we have CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 and looking to buy or if possible upgrade to latest version of CiscoWorks LMS 4.1
I need confirmation is this LMS 4.1 is a bundle? Like including RME, Common Services, CiscoView, Device fault Manager, Campus Manager and etc.,?
    Naidu.

An upgrade from LMS 2.x to LMS 4.1 is possible. With LMS 2.6 there was no device count restriction but the next major release (LMS 3.0) introduced licensing based on device count. So you have to determine which device count you need. Available licenses are for example:
        LMS41-300-UP-K9         Upgrade LMS 2.x 3.x to 4.1 Base DVD for 300 devices
        LMS41-1.5K-UP-K9         Upgrade LMS 2.x 3.x to 4.1 Base DVD for 1500 devices
LMS 4.1 is a bundle and - under the cover - still contains CS, CiscoView, RME, CM, DFM and meanwhile also IPM (Internetwok Performance Monitor) and HUM (Health and Utilization Monitor); With LMS 4.x they cannot be installed as standalone applications as it was with LMS 2.x/ 3.x; Also the GUI has undergone a complete re-write (and thus re-organization) - see the link to the data sheets below.
There will be some changes with LMS because it will be merged together with "Cisco Prime Network Control System" into "Cisco Prime Infrastructure".
Thus the latest release of LMS (LMS 4.2) is available in the "Cisco Prime Infrasturcture" Bundle which contains both these products:
Cisco Prime Network Control System 1.1        (Mgmt for Wireless Products)
Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2       (Mgmt for Network devices)

    Hi there,
I would like to seek your counsel with regards to the recent incident that we encountered with our CiscoWorks LMS 3.1 running on Solaris 10.
A few days ago, we received a few complains from our users that they were unable to view the pollers or contents of the TOP-N <CPU | Memory | Interface> Utilization on the HUM’s home page (see attached file, hum_homepage.jpg).
We (tech support guys) checked the pollers’ status and they’re all Active (see attached file, pollers.jpg); we notified our Administrators and requested for a copy of the HUMPortal.log (see attached file, humportal.zip).
The following day, while waiting for the HUMPortal.log, we received reports that users accessing the HUM home page are stuck with the message “loading…” on all TOP-N Utilization reports.
As we were about to re-queue our request from our administrators, we received reports (a few hours ago) that our CiscoWorks LMS is inaccessible via web browser.
We alerted our administrators and they attempted to restart the Daemon Manager (/etc/init.d/dmgmtd); they were able to successfully shut it down but took several attempts to start it up.
As they attempt to start up the Daemon Manager, they encountered the following error message:
    # /etc/init.d/dmgtd start
Error: Daemon Management could not start. Trying again
Error: Unable to bind to port, please check port (42340) state and permissions.
Error: If the port is in use, please try starting Daemon Manager once it become free.
After several minutes passed, they were able to start up the Daemon Manager successfully although the CiscoWorks LMS is still inaccessible via web browser.
We requested for a copy of the “pdshow –brief” log and every daemon (as far as I know) seemed to be working fine but it never hurts to ask for help to verify my findings (see attached file, pdshow0818a.log).
As of the moment of  this writing, we are still unable to access CiscoWorks LMS via web  browser; any insight or suggestion on the next step to take in  troubleshooting and eventually solving this problem is very much  appreciated.

The port 42340 issue is most likley not related to the HUM issue you described. The latest log entry you provided indicates "Possible reasons for 'No Data' in HUM Portlets could be either Poller is not configured, or Poller is deactivated, or Poller Failure has occurred, or Summarization job did not start." The error is repeated back to the beginning of the file dated Aug 14 16:39.
To focus on the HUM issue:
Did any change occur on or around the 14th that you are aware of?
    Please provide some additional debugs:
    1. Please enable debug for "UPMProcess"
Log files are stored here: #/var/adm/CSCOpx/log/#
    - HUMPortal.log
    - upm_summarization.log
    - jrm.log
    - upm_process.log
    2. To set log levels:
*Health and Utilization Monitor > Admin > System Preferences*.
    - Select Log Level Settings.
    - Select the application module from the drop-down list.
    - Select the Debug log level from the Logging Level drop-down list.
    Thanks,
    Nick

  • How do you install RSAC 4.3.2 when upgrading to ciscoworks LMS 3.2.1?

We have ciscoworks LMS 3.2 which we have recently updated to ciscoworks 3.2.1 using the ciscoworks 3.2 Service Pack 1 patch file.  In the "Readme for CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution 3.2 Service Pack 1" document, it says that you have to install the Remote Syslog Collector 4.3.2 separately.  It says the file (setup.exe) is located at disk1/RSAC.  However, ciscoworks 3.2 Service Pack 1 only appears to be a patch file and when we ran the patch file on our Remote Syslog Collector server, the version remained at 4.3.0.  When I looked at the server where RME is installed (version 4.3.2), it says that Syslog Analyzer is 4.3.2 and Syslog Collector is version 4.3.0.  The patch file doesn't look like it has the installation files for RSAC 4.3.2 and there doesn't seem to be a directory that was created on the RME server to install the updated RSAC from, so how do you upgrade from RSAC 4.3.0 to RSAC 4.3.2?

I opened up a TAC case, worked with TAC, and was able to update RSAC to version 4.3.2.  The procedure is:
    1. Download the ciscoworks LMS 3.2.1 patch file to the remote syslog server.
    2. Create a temporary directory on the remote syslog server (ex. c:\test)
    3. Go into the directory with the extracted LMS 3.2.1 patch file and type the command:
    Ciscoworks_LMS_3.2.1.exe /extract_all:c:\test
    4.  Go into the c:\test directory and find the RSAC folder.  In the RSAC folder is a setup file.  Run setup and install RSAC 4.3.2 over RSAC 4.3.0 (if you uninstall RSAC 4.3.0, you will get a message saying that RSAC 4.3.0 must be installed before installing RSAC 4.3.2)
    5. Check the installation by going to Common Services->Software Center->Software Update on the remote syslog server.  The version should be RSAC 4.3.2.
