Faulty hard drive on envy sleekbook

Hi
My envy 6 sleek book has started to run really slow and when started in safe mode works better. I tried to do the hp tests by pressing the escape key on start up and tested the hard drive. It failed with this failure Id GGFLQC-66D6TA-XD7X1G-60TG03 for hard disk 1.
What should I do?

I have replaced my faulty hard drive on my macbook air 1.1 with a new ssd, I need to reinstall the original software, where can I find this on the apple site?

There is no download for the software.  The factory software that you are looking for is called ilife.  It is all of the software that would have came preinstalled with your mac on your original hard drive when you first bought it.  You will have to get new software on your computer.  This might actually be a great opurtunity to upgrade to Lions.  Search the Lions software in the mac store and it will come up.  Click add to cart and check out.  The price for it is $20.  I defientely recomend Lions, it has alot of new great features.  Then wate for the install disk to come in the mail.  when it come just pop it in and follow the step by step instructions.  If you dont want to upgrade to lions however you can download the ilife package from apple.com for a small price.  Hope this helps.

• Fourth Generation iPod = Faulty Hard Drive????

I have reformatted my Fourth Generation iPod three times. It will not hold formatting. Every time I try to add only 2,000 songs on the 40 GB drive I get an error when it's done saying the iPod isn't formatted correctly and no music goes on the iPod. It seems as if the hard drive is not maintaining any type of data.
This is a brand new factory refurbished iPod. Is there a tendency for faulty hard drives in this generation? What do I do since the iPod is out of warranty due to this iPod being refurbished from apple?
Thanks.

Didn't know that; but either way, it's past three months as I was unable to format the iPod immediately when I got it for various reasons. Regardless, I'm still not sure if this is a hard drive error... But thanks, though!

• Faulty hard drives and recovery sets

Regarding having a faulty hard drive (no recovery partition), if you and a friend have the same computer model you could buy a new hard drive (maybe 120GB) and clone the good one from one computer to use in the one that had a bad hard drive then make a recovery set from the clone as well as the original, I did this and it's worked.
I have two HP HDX9000 laptops of which one is slightly cosmetically damaged and its original hard drive died so Windows Vista was put on an unpartitioned 500GB hard drive which will go with the unit. I took the OS drive from the 'new' laptop and cloned it so the old one would once again have a recovery partition and created recovery discs from both.

Help please,i am thinknig of just returning it and getting a less expeecsive and easier one to use.

Mavericks is the pain here.
It can lose the network connection half way through a backup.
When you connect by ethernet (good to get that.. hope it is the thunderbolt to ethernet).. did you turn off the wireless.. this is important.. nothing changes if the wireless is still on.
I recommend you start over. Keep the wireless on for this part.
Stop the backup.
Factory reset the TC.
Redo the TC setup but this time use all short names, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
I know the airport utility will suggest apple names..
Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule.
Don't fall for it.
Use TCgen5
For wireless name use TCwifi (or if you want more control, TC24ghz and change 5ghz to TC5ghz).
Wipe the current TM setup.
Use A4 to reset it. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
With wireless off now and just ethernet connection try the backup again.
No luck manually mount the TC hard disk in finder. Go/Connect to Server.
AFP://TCname.local (replace TCname with your new nice short name.. and use the domain which is local by default).
OR
Use AFP://10.0.1.1 (Replace with whatever IP the TC uses.. but it must be static.. easy for router mode.. not so easy if the TC is in bridge mode).
The Computer will request the password.. type in whatever password you used for disk access.. by default it ithe device password. If you did not change it then default is public.
This setup has worked for other people.
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5951390?tstart=0
I cannot guarantee you won't need to reboot the TC oocasionally as it does fall over.
There are other bits that I keep forgetting..
Make sure ipv6 is set to link-local for both wireless and ethernet in the computer.
Once you finish the main backup the short incremental backups can work over wireless.. so just turn wireless back on.

• Macbook makes chirping sound? Is it a faulty hard drive?

My late 2008 macbook's hard drive makes a pretty loud chirping sound when I open the programs Pro Tools or Adobe Photoshop. The beachball pops up and the HD "chirps" and the computer freezes for around 10 minutes and then all of a sudden it starts working again with the applications running flawlessly. I have no problems when using Firefox or Preview or browsing through my files; Which makes me think that its not a problem with the HD but maybe a problem with the programs i'm running. The HD sometimes also makes the noise when i first power the computer on but it does not freeze.
btw: this has been happening for well over 2 months. I already backed up all my data a while back to an external HD just in case the HD is faulty.

It sounds like a hard drive issue. Try reformatting it using "Zero all data" option under "Security Options" in your Disk Utility.

• How do I retrieve files from faulty Hard Drive?

My Hard Drive failed and on advice I bought a new External Hard Drive and installed OSX 10.5.1 from there.
However, my faulty Macintosh HD still shows up on my Desktop and I can open it and see files there named Applications, Library, System, Users, System Folder, User Guides and Information, Home, Lost + Found, Net.
However, when I open, for instance, Applications, in there I can find my copy of CorelDraw which was installed on my Macintosh HD but which is not installed on my External HD, and I can open and operate CorelDraw from there, but my previously written documents are not in there.
The same applies to my copy of MS Office for Mac 2008 - I can open and operate the program from my Macintosh HD but my previously written documents are not there.
Can I retrieve my old work from my Macintosh HD and how do I attempt that?
I don't want to pay anyone to do it but I would like to try and do it myself.

None of my previous work is visible in Documents or anywhere else - the cupboard is bare - just as if I had never done anything.
Yet both CorelDraw and MS Office for Mac 2008 both work just fine when I access them from the faulty macintosh HD.
My documents are probably there somewhere but I don't know where to look for them.
Also, is there any way of retrieving my old web page bookmarks somehow?

• Faulty hard drive? Memory analysis

Hey
Been trying to figure out whether or not my new MBP's hard drive is faulty.
It's a 13" 2,56GHz (Core2Duo) with 4 GB RAM
Can you help me find out by "analyzing" these numbers?
I did this clean install and got these numbers - after the clean install, no extra software installed and no external HDD plugged in:
Uptime: 3 days
Load averages: 0,38 0,49 0,62
Page ins: 2,26 GB
Page outs: 384 KB
Swap-disc used: 3,0 MB
0,6 GB free + 1,4 GB passive memory / 4 GB total = 50 %,
when running 13 diff. apps, incl. Safari with 10 tabs open (a slight bit of Flash)
Hard drive sleeping turned off.
Numbers after doing doing a full restore from Time Machine:
Did a test, running 30 apps (pretty heavy ones too, like all iWork apps, FF, Chrome, Safari etc.).
Free memory was gone, but had 1 GB passive left at all times. Got a lot of page outs though.
See screenshot.
http://img30.imageshack.us/i/screenshotot.png/
Not sure why my memory usage stays this, somewhat, high now when only having very few apps open.
Also, what about the SWAP disc number, is that bad?
After another 24 hours, just normal usage (no heavy multitasking at all):
See second screenshot
http://img402.imageshack.us/i/screenshot2ux.png/
System does seem a little slow and i'm getting some beachballs
Hope you can help me out
Thanks in advance

What you've posted gives no indication of any problem with your hard drive. Indeed, it has hardly anything to do with your hard drive. OS X is busy managing RAM to allow all your applications to keep running at once, and that's about all that appears to be happening.
You may want to read this Apple article about the several different RAM usage states and OS X's RAM management strategies:

It may reassure you about the normality of what you're seeing.

• How do I simply move my existing OSX and data from a faulty hard drive I am replacing with a new one?

Recently I took my computer in to get repaid for a monitor display issue. While it was repaired the shop told me my hard drive was having issues. It turns out they could fix it for me but they were going to charge me $300+. I replace drives all the time at work but never for Macs. How can I go about moving all of my data from the current hard disk to the new hard disk (OS and all)? Can I simply back up the data to an external drive using time machine? I am thinking I would need to just start from scratch and install Mac OS 10.5, upgrade to 10.6, and so on.

tjk has given you the more correct answer. Use TimeMachine, CarbonCopyCloner, or SuperDuper! to make a complete backup of your computer's hard drive. This will make restoring to a new hard drive as painless as possible. Backing up only your home directly would force you to reinstall every program - sometime I prefer to avoid when possible. (All those serial numbers!)
If while attempting to backup the drive you get error messages which indicate the backup will be unusable, then retreat to backup up only the home directory.

• How to change a faulty hard drive on MacBook Pro

The hard drive on my laptop is failing: overall performance has greatly diminished, the computer has slowed down, sometimes even crashing;  looking at /var/ log messages, plenty of I/O error messages are building up.
Added to this, the System Information (system report) says that the Hitachi (750 Gb, 7200 rpm, model HTS727575A9E362) SATA drive is failing (S.M.A.R.T. status)
I have a 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2011).
So, my question: what's the best way to change it for a new hard disk drive, and be sure it's compatible?
The computer's warranty has already expired, and have no extended coverage....I've been looking around the www for laptop hard drives in Apple retail stores, and can't find any. Any help is greatly appreciated.

apple doesnt sell hard drives.  Look on newegg.com or macsales.com.  Any 2.5" that is 9.5 mm or less in height will fit.  Here are installation instructions: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Unibody+Late+2011+Hard+Drive+Rep lacement/7513

• MacBookPro - faulty Hard drive - again

Purchased my MacBookPro in Jan 07, been a great machine until May 08 of this year. I was having some issues that hinted to a hard drive problem. Took it to AppleCare Centre and was told the hard dive was close to failing. Didn't seem to be that big of a problem, had them replace it with a new hard drive. Then on 19 Aug 08 my hard drive failed, with no recovery possible. I was in the States at the time and they replaced it no charge. Then on Monday of this week 29 Sept 08 my hard drive failed again with no recovery possible, again. Any ideas what might be happening. They are about to put another hard drive in and I have no guarantee that in a few weeks it won't fail again because they can not tell me. Has anyone else experienced this?

Just out of curosity, did you notice the brands of the harddrive? If you go under system preferences and click on Serial-ATA, I think there are information available regarding your harddrive. I would suggest you bringing it back to Applecare and let them take care of it. I believe they also have International Coverage for it too.

• Faulty Hard Drive

Need help. HP 600-1170a Win 7 64.   Diagnostics says no bootable drives detected   Error code BI0HD-1 or 3.   Rather than lose data I would perfer to buy a new hard drive. Existing drive ST3100528as sata 1 TB but I understand it is no longer made. What would be a suitable replacement?    Are there upgrades e.g. more capacity or faster speed that will fit?.    Can I replace it myself and then us recovery discs to reinstall?

Hi:
You should be able to replace the drive with any quality 3.5" Desktop hard drive.  I prefer WD caviar blue or black drives myself
I would stick with the 1 TB. I'd also go with the SATA III (6.0 GB's) version--even if your controller only runs it at the 3.0 GB's speed.
The drive picked a lousy time to go out, as the prices are at least double what they were 6 months ago due to the flooding in Thailand this past October which flooded a majority of the worlds HDD manufacturing plants located there.
Here is a good site to get them from if you live in the USA. Many have customer reviews, so you can choose one that you think will work the best for you.

Below is the link to the upgrading and servicing guide. Gives pictorial descriptions on how to replace the HDD.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01895538.pdf
Recovery disks should work for you.  Don't go with a smaller drive as the recovery disks may not work on a smaller HDD.
