Faulty Iomega 100mb zip cart

Hi there. I have an iomega 100mb zip cart that won't mount. The drive is ok - I can insert and mount other carts, but not this one. It has important files on it that I'd like to transfer to the hd.
It shows up but is grayed out when I run Disk Utility. When I try verify disk and repair disk I get "filesystem verify or repair failed." I can hear it spinning, but it still won't mount.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Jay.

Yes, I know it's an antigue, but I still need the files on it. But I don't need them enough to pay hundreds of dollars for them I was hoping that someone who has had this problem may have learned of a way to get their zip to mount cheaply. I'd hoped that Disk Utility could repair it.

  • Can I install a 100mb Zip drive in PowerPc G4 Quicksilver?

I am using a PPC G4 Quicksilver to replace a PPC G3 desktoop. I have a collection of 100MB zips I would like to access. Can I install an internal Zip 100MB drive in the second drive draw in the tower? If yes, ATA or SCSI.
    Thank you,
    Ed Gaiano

Even if you don't get a bezel it might be a good idea to close the opening. I don't know how closely engineered those computers are to air flow and cooling and leaving off a bezel might change those characteristics. I did something similar on a different model computer once and used foam rubber to pack around the edge. Not pretty I'll admit.

  • AUDIO SAMPLES FROM IOMEGA 100 ZIP DRIVE TO MAC BOOK PRO / LOGIC?

Posted: Fri, Feb 15 2013, 1:27pm    Post subject: AUDIO SAMPLES FROM ZIP 100 TO MACBOOK PRO / LOGIC?
    HI THERE
I HAVE LOADS OF OLD AUDIO SAMPLES ON ZIP DISKS ( ZIP 100 using akai cd3000 sampler ) THAT I WOULD LIKE TO TRANSFER TO MY MAC BOOK PRO FOR LOGIC EX24.
IS IT A SIMPLE CASE OF A 'SCSI TO USB LEAD' , WILL MY MAC BOOK PICK IT UP FROM THERE OR DO I NEED SOFTWARE OR DRIVERS FOR MY MAC TO BE ABLE TO SEE THEM?
IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE AT ALL?
    THANKS

    Hi guys
Sorry for the delay in coming back. I bought a zip drive pretty cheaply then and it has only just turned up. However when I put my old ZIP disks in, it seems like the ZIP drive reads them at least but the MACBOOK comes up with the following message...
'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer'
Does this pretty much mean a no go then?  Or can I put the samples from my AKAI sampler back through the old ZIP drive,  reformat some new disks in a certain way on that drive so that my MAC can read them?
All its for really is mainly to take old tracks that used these samples and getting them set up in my mac.  Also there was some good bits and pieces there anyway and would like to keep using those samples for newer projects. I could of coourse resample them from the AKAI straight to the MAC but would be not as practical and would take alot longer. The 13'' macbook pros input is not digital, only its output.
    thanks

  • Should I buy an Iomega USB Zip drive for my Mac G5?

Zip disks are handy for doing routine backup of genetal documents such as Word and Excel files, unlike CD-R's where after one use they are done and just have to be thrown away.
I had a zip drive with my old G4, but some people give the latest model of the Zip 100 bad reviews. Should I get it or not? I already have plenty of Zip Disks.

I'd recommend against it. Zips are ridiculously unreliable. For the kind of backups you're talking about, you're probably better off with a few high-capacity USB Flash drives, or using CD-RW media that you can re-write to. Either is far more reliable, and more compatible with most other computers, if you ever find yourself needing a file at a friend's house, or printing things out at Kinkos.
I know too well the clickety-clack of a dying Zip drive, and staring at now useless disks. Before I sold my G4, I transferred all my old Zips to three Dual-Layer DVDs. Safe and sound.
Good luck, and let me know it this helped.

  • Latest Mac OS

    Hey every1,
I have a Power Mac G3 rev 1 that has:
    Mac OS 9.2.2
    576MB of ram
80GB Western Digital Hard Drive, partitioned into 4 HDs, main HD is 7.7GB w/5.71GB availabe. The others are 23.32GB, and 21.75GB each.
    Sonnet Tempo ATA133 PCI Card
    HP Deskjet 6540 Inkjet Printer
    Iomega 100MB Zip Drive
    HP Scanjet 4400c Scanner
I use the following software for Graphic Design:
    PageMaker 7
    Illustrator 8
    Freehand 8
    Photoshop 5.5
I would like to know what's the latest version of Mac OS I can safely upgrade to?
    Thanks,
    Andrea

    Hi, Andrea -
Can I just keep everything I have, max out the memory, install Mac OS Tiger on another partition and switch between it and Mac OS 9.2 which has all of my graphic software?
Yes, provided the partition to be used for OSX is formatted as Mac OS Extended (also called HFS+). OSX can not be installed on a volume formatted as Mac OS Standard.
You can use Startup Disk (control panel in OS 9, control pane in OSX's System Preferences) to switch between the two OS's.
Also do I need to upgrade to a dvd drive to install Tiger? Right now I just have the original CD Rom that came w/the computer.
Unless you have need for DVD capability for other reasons, no, you don't need to do that. Instead, you can exchange the Tiger DVDs for a set of CDs. There's a link for that in the upper middle of this page -

I just noticed you are describing your machine as a G3 rev. 1. Is it a Beige model G3? Or, is it a Blue&White G3? What is the CPU (processor) speed?

  • WRT54G Suddenly gets no power

My WRT54G router has worked just fine for the past few years. After returning home from dinner last night I found it to be completely off. I am unable to get it to power on. Reset button doesn't help. Plugging into a different electrical outlet doesn't help. Vigorously slapping the unit doesn't help. I'm able to get online by connecting directly to my modem so I don't think the other components are the problem.
Do these things just poop out suddenly? Could it be the power supply?
Are there any diagnostics I can try? Obviously I can't open the router in my browser? I hate to spend $50 on a new one but it probably won't take much of my time to make $50 look like a bargain.
    Any help/suggestions/ideas welcome.
    Thanks,
    Gary

OK, this is weird. I tried the power adapter from my Iomega 100mb zip drive on the router. It fit snugly on the receptacle pin and lit up the router like it should be. Then, I plugged the router's power adapter into the zip drive and the zip drive turned on. Very strange.
That's the way it is now--both the desktop and notebook computer are on the network and surfing the internet, getting e mail, etc.
Anyone have any ideas about what's going on here now?
Also, I'm wondering if I could just leave the two adapters as they are now-Linksys adapter connnected to the zip drive; zip drive adapter connected to the router.
The Linksys adapter plug reads: AC input: 100-120 VAC, 47.-63 hz 0.5A, DC Output: 5.0VDC 2.0A
The zip drive adapter plug reads: Input: 120VAC, 0.125MA, 60HZ,
    Output: 5VDC 1.0 A
Again, all comments/ideas welcome, especially from those of you who understand all things electrical.

  • Iomega Zip 100 Drive Stopped Working in OS 10.4.4

We have 3 G4 Macs which have internal Zip 100 drives installed. they have all worked fine until we upgraded to system 10.4.4, and now the computer does not recognize the zip disk when inserted.
Iomega says that the software for the drives is native to OS X, and they do not have a driver update beyond 4.0.2. I am stumped in trying to figure out how to get the drives working again, and will welcome help on this problem.
    Dudley

Hi, Dudley. It looks like Iomega has abandoned the old and now very obsolete Zip 100 technology in favor of newer, larger, faster, more reliable, longer-lived, and higher-capacity removable media, notably the 35GB-per-cartridge Rev technology. I doubt that either Iomega or Apple will bother to write a driver for Zip 100 drives that is compatible with any recent version of OS X, never mind any future version.
When a 100MB Zip disk costs around $5 (when you can still find them), a 700MB CD-R costs 15 cents, a 4.7GB DVD-R costs $2, and huge, fast hard drives go for $.30-.$35/GB, there's just no reason to keep using Zip100 drives or disks. Put Zip's very high costs together with the very limited lifespan of a Zip disk, and you get a technology that is dead, dead, dead.
Find an old Mac that can still read your Zip disks, copy everything off all of them onto a FireWire hard drive, and say goodbye to Zips.

  • Erasrd Zip Disk 250 IOMEGA   Zip Disk icon dissappeared from desktop

I was experimenting for the purpose of learning how to erase a Zip Disk. It’s not necessary because you can simple remove existing folders from a Zip Disk and put new one on. This was sort of a controlled experiment.
This Zip Disk was a back up Zip Disk (removable media). So I made copies of the existing folders and put them in a safe place. So I did not lose data. I made backups for Folders on my Zip Disk and then deliberately erased the data on the Zip Disk itself.
I have an External IOMEGA 250 Zip Drive and I was using an IOMEGA 250 Zip Disk.
I went to (Mac Help) to get instructions on how to erase a disk or volume.
I opened Disk Utility I was instructed to select a Disk Volume or Image on the Left side of the window. On the left there was my
External Hard Drive IOMEGA icon 239.0 MB and under It was the classic (White) IOMEGA Zip Disk Icon 250MB.
    I believe I selected my:
External Zip Hard Drive Icon 239.0MB IOMEGA ZIP 250.
Then in the dialog box to the Right I selected the (Erase) button. In the Erase dialog box I entered the following information:
Volume Format: I Selected Mac OS Extended (Journal)
    Name: Zip 250
Check Box: Install Mac OS.9 Disk Driver
    Regarding this (check box)
    Mac Help Stated this:
If you plan to start up the disk in Mac OS 9 or if the disk will be connected to computer running OS 9 then check this box.
    So I checked this box
Options Button: I checked (Zero All Data)
    Erase Button: I hit erase
The erase procedure was not completed.
So I went back into the Erase dialog box this time I did not select anything from the
(Options Menu) Options were now listed as none.
I hit erase again and this time the erase was completed.
And upon completion I noticed that the (White) Zip 250 icon on my Desktop disappeared. I don't think that was supposed to happen.
I did notice that the External Zip Hard Drive was still listed in the Right Panel of my Disk Utility but the (White) Zip Disk250 icon had changed it now was listed as:
    Disk1s9
But the Zip Disk Icon itself was not showing on my desktop
So apparently I did not execute this erase experiment correctly!
For learning purposes I would like to receive instructions on how to get the (White) Zip 250 icon to mount so I can re-use this Zip Disk. And In the process learn the right way to do something like this. And to understand what is actually taking place.
Let me save you some time, as you try to trouble-shoot what I have done, by telling you what action I have already taken to fix this.
I went back to my Disk Utility:
Selected the (First Aid) Button in an attempt to Verify and Repair Volumes:
I Verified the Volume it was OK
I also Repaired Volume and it said OK
I then ejected the Zip Disk from the Disk Utility and simply reinserted it again to see if the (White) Zip 250 Icon would now be displayed on my Desktop. But it did not.
I then ejected the Zip Disk and turned off my computer and turned it back on and tried again to mount my Zip Disk to my Desktop.
    But to no avail
I then turned my computer off and upon restart I reset my Parameters
Zap the Pram, as they say and that did not work.
I then with the External IOMEGA 250 Zip Drive still plugged in to my USB Port; I again turned off my computer. While the computer was off I un-plugged the External IOMEGA 250 Zip Drive from the USB port and then plugged it back in, and turned my computer back on. I put my Zip Disk into my Zip Drive but it still did not mount the (Whit) Zip Disk Icon on my desktop.
Each time I ejected the Zip Disk and reinserted it a Message would display:
You have installed a Disk containing no volumes that Mac OSX can read to continue with the Disk inserted click (ignore) from following buttons"
    (Initialize) (Ignore) (Eject)
    Initialize simply opened Disk Utility.
So I then clicked (Ignore) and proceeded back to Disk Utility to mount a new image even though I did not need to retrieve any loss data. I thought what the heck, I will try it, may be I can get my (White) Zip 250 icon back on my desktop in the process.
So with Disk Utility opened from the above Main Menu I selected:
    Image:
    New:
    Image from disk1s9
Results I got an Error-39 Message?
With that I gave up and came to the Discussion Board to find out what I actually did wrong and how to repair it, and learn the right way to do something like this.
I am guessing that the new Zip Disk 1s9 listed in the Disk Utility is a major clue. I am assuming it is in reference to OS 9.2.2, I did check that box during the erasing procedure to install Mac OS 9 Disk Driver?
I hope I have not done any damage to my OS9 Operating System or caused OS 9 to malfunction in some way.
I have not gone into OS 9.2.2 yet to check for any malfunctions.
Also I thought I would mention this External Zip Driver is about 4 years old, so far it has worked well on both OS9.2.2 and OSX 10.3.9
So, I think what I have done is pretty straightforward and I hope the solution is simple and straightforward.
I would like some help with this so I can learn more and understand what I did and how to repair things.
Worse case scenario I can just buy another blank Zip Disk

    Beverly:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You apparently erased the formatted volume on your zip disk, so that Mac OS does not see it as a Mac disk.
Launch Disk Utility and select your zip disk (manufacturer ID) in left panel. Select Partition in the main panel. Name your Volume in the Name field. Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). You are about to create a Mac formatted volume on a single partition of your zip disk. Click Partition.
Let me know if this works for you.
    Good luck.

  • IOMEGA ZIP CD 650 DRIVE NOT RECOGNIZED

I have an iMac G3 (333 Mhz) with 256 RAM running Mac OS 8.6. I had an Iomega Zip CD 650 and it worked beautifully (highest burn rate was 4x but that was fine). All of a sudden, it started giving me hardware errors. I tried everything I could think of, but it still did not work, so I think the drive was just dead.
Anyway, for my operating system, there aren't really any burners out there that I like, and all the new ones are for USB 2.0, which is not supported by OS 8.6 (or maybe supported but running at a 1.1 speed). I bought one on eBay (the same one I had before, or so I thought). My last one was also bought on eBay.
So, using Toast Titanium 5.0.2, Toast won't recognize the drive. It tells me there is no recordable drive and to check the connections and the power. I've tried that, tried the troubleshooting wizzard, tried basically everything. I know the USB port works (tested), and I know the drive gets power and somehow the computer connects with it because when I reboot, the drive light blinks. Just in case I also tried using Toast 4.0 and 4.1.2, but I got the same results, "no CD Recorder found, check power and connections."
I checked the serial number to identify exactly what kind of drive it is and to my surprise, it is identified as "ZIP CD 650/IOMEGA CD-RW 4X4X6X USB 2.0 EXTERNAL DRIVE. So, first I was surprised because it's a 2.0 and that one is not even identified in the main product listing. Second, when I go into specs, it says that the transfer rate is USB 1.1, but what would be the point of making a USB 2.0 drive with a USB 1.1 transfer rate?.
I keep getting a message saying "ISD ATAPI BRIDGE" requires software not installed, but I have tried deleting all Toas software, re-installing it, and it still won't be recognized by my computer.
Any suggestions? Should I just cry, forget about it, and hope to find a CD-RW Zip 650 that is listed as USB 1.1 instead of 2.0? Should I just forget about writing CD's until I've saved enough money to buy a new iMac G5 with the Intel Dual Processors?
    Thanks for your help

iMac G3   Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier   256 RAM

Where can buy a replacement external drive for the Iomega 650 Zip Drive that will work with OS 9.1? After reading all of the problems in the discussion with the Iomega Zips, I really don't want to buy another one. What else can I purchase that will allow me to burn CD's (don't really care about DVD's) on my imac?
Let me give some background on the problems I have had. My Iomega 650 Zip Drive worked fine for the first couple of years, then worked sporadically. Now I'm convinced it's completely unusable. It stopped reading CD's that I previously burned with it sometime ago (I'm still able to read them in the slot-loading CD reader that is on the imac) but for awhile I could still get it to burn new CD's.
Now it won't do anything. The Zip drive is recognized, as it appears as the drive to use when I open Adeptec Toast 4.1.2 to burn a CD. However, when I insert a blank CD into the drive I get the message "Waiting for the writer". If I select disc information it says "there is no disc in the recorder". If I eject the disc and insert it again I get the message "insert a recordable disc".
As for the behavior of the drive itself, it spins a couple of times, then stops. I tried cleaning it and it spins better but still never gets up to a high enough speed to burn or read a CD.
My imac came with a slot loader that reads CD's but won't burn them. I tried installing Disc Burner 1.01 to see if I could use the slot loader to burn CD's but it doesn't work. I also installed Discribe-9x-mac-ppc-5047 after talking with the Iomega tech people and it doesn't work either.
Any sugguestions on what I can do/purchase to get my imac to burn CD's is greatly appreciated.

  • Using Zip Drives in Laopard

I have a hundreds of files on 100 megabyte zip drives. I can use these zip drives on my old G-3 but I want to use them on my new iMac also, and the new iMac does not have a built in zip drive.
I found a 100 megabyte Iomega USB zip drive on eBay. It comes with the zip drivers on a CD. Will these zip drivers install and work on System 10?
    MultiMacs

There are drivers built into OS X for zip drives, but they're limited. You should be able to connect a USB zip drive and be able to access your data. Here's the info on iomega's site:

  • Home Hub disconnects when Iomega NAS connected

I have been struggling to set up an Iomega iconnect on my HH.
Originally, I had an old style white V1 hub.  The iconnect connected wirelessly to the hub but would disconnect within a few hours. The broadband connection was not affected.
I also set up the dyndns but could not access the drive over the internet.
I thought that a new V2 hub might solve the problem so obtained one of e-bay and installed it.
It is on Software version 8.1.H.J (Type A).
Again I set up port forwarding.
After about an hour, the phone pings and the broadband drops out.  It is out for a very short time then reconnects.
If I disconnect the Iomega the problem disappears.
    Any help appreciated.

On thing that springs to mind - a faulty Iomega. I've got a WD NAS attached and it doesn't miss a beat - although I don't try and access it over the internet.

  • Internal ZIP drive to external?

I have a B&W G3 that came with an internal 100 MB ZIP drive. Can I remove it and use it as a stand alone external drive and if so, what other parts would I need?

It would probably be more trouble and expense than it's worth. The internal Zip drive is an ATAPI device with a 40-pin connection, so you'd need an external case for removable media devices (like a 5.25" optical drive), because the Zip drive's faceplate must be exposed for inserting/removing disks. You'd also need the 5.25" to 3.5" reducing sled with faceplate for the case, which shipped with Iomega retail boxed internal Zip drives, for installing in an empty 5.25" expansion bay. As for the choice of external case connectivity, it would either be FireWire or USB, but if the bridge chip used in the external case doesn't recognize the Zip drive, then it's a lost cause. I attempted to convert an internal ATAPI Zip drive for external use, by installing it in an external USB 1.1 CD-RW's case. Once connected, I got several different error messages identifying "missing" software, which really pertained to the programming of the bridge chip itself. It had nothing to do with Iomega's USB driver, because that driver was already installed in the Extensions folder. The Zip drive is both a mass storage device and removable media device, so you'd want to check the manufacturer's specs for the external case, to be sure that it would be supported. Converting an internal SCSI Zip drive for external use in a SCSI case is a straightforward swap with no problems, but that's not the case with an ATAPI Zip drive. As I wrote at the outset, it may not be worth attempting the conversion, especially since you can find used, external Iomega USB Zip 100 drives for very little now. The first generation of USB Zip drives had an external 5-volt power supply, but the newer ones are smaller, bus-powered devices. The low cost and convenience of using USB flash drives has made the more expensive Zip disks less popular for backup usage now.

  • Zip disk module

    Hi
    1.
Is this the place to discuss zip disks & the module on the wallstreet?
    2.
    If so, here's the problem:
I have the Iomega/VST Zip disk module that will slide into either side of my wallstreet. I intermittently have problems getting the zip disk icon to show up on the display. Right now I can't get it to show up and I have tried everything I know to get it to work: using the Iomega guest; going into extensions manager and changing the x on iomega drive, then restarting; reinstalling Iomega software — one or another of these things has often made the thing work. Also, there have been times when it doesn't work, and then all of a sudden it works. Sometimes inserting and rejecting the disk a few times works. At present I have to use a paperclip to get the disk out, but this has been true off and on for years. The unit has recovered so many times that it would be hard for me to believe that the module is dead. Any suggestions?
    3.
I haven't been on the Apple discussions for a while, and my posts, bookmarks and subscriptions are all empty. Is that how it works; that after a certain time the stuff is cleared out?

*Here are answers to your questions, and things i’ve tried.
How are you burning CDs... via a FireWire PC card or USB PC card or do you have a SCSI burner or possibly a media bay CD-RW?
*Using A Yamaha Scsi Burner Using The Scsi Port On The Back Of The Powerbook
Disc Burner is Apple's implementation of burning software from the Finder and should be part of a standard install if running 9.2.2. It is named Disc Burner Extension and should be in the Extensions folder or Extensions (Disabled) folder and appear in the Extensions Manager.
*I can’t find disc burner anywhere, not even in my record of what os 9.2.2 installed. I do not have the 9.2.2 disk, I have the os 9.1 disk, and I would have to get the 9.2.2 if that’s where disk burner is found. However, as i mentioned, i have run toast successfully with what i have here. I ran it last night after our correspondence and it worked. This afternoon it doesn’t work and I imagine I did something in between time to cause this.
If for some reason you are having trouble altering the Extensions Manager, it is good that you did not restart; the extension set you are currently running (loaded in memory) will remain unchanged until you restart. Open your Extensions Manager again; at the top of the window, you will see a drop-down menu next to 'Selected set:'. Click on the menu bar...you should see MacOS 9.2.2 All and MacOS 9.2.2 Base; these are locked and cannot be changed. Below those, you should see your custom sets, things like 'My Settings', the one for 'Toast', and the new one you created (if done correctly) 'Zip100 Only'. However, it sounds like you did not create the 'Zip100' set but just altered the set you have for 'Toast'
*I did create a separate zip 100 set. It has the same extensions set as My Settings 2.
Testing my Extensions Manager, once you make changes to a particular set, you can click Revert and it will undo the changes you made. However, once you close the Extensions Manager, those changes are stored, and when you open the EM again, Revert is grayed out.
*Revert is grayed out on Toast and My Settings 2 & Zip 100

    *OK I’ll read it.
Do you have a standard working extensions set with a specific name like 'My Settings'? What is the name of the non-Toast extension set?
    *It’s Called My Settings 2
I did restart my settings 2 last night. Everything seems to be working ok with that set. In that set, all the extensions are checked except for:
    Firewire ...g support
    Microsoft ...utomation
    Microsoft ...e library
    Microsoft ... Ed storage
    Usb autho ...g support
‘changes will take efect on restart’ is on my settings 2 now.
I don’t know if that was what it was before, but also, i don’t recall changing anything at the time i created the new setting, zip 100 only
In my settings 2 i have ‘iomega driver extension. Is that the ‘zip 100’. My settings 2, i have had checked:
    Iomega active disk engine
    Iomega driver
    Iomega firewire support
    Iomega usb support
I have no “toast help” in system folder>help folder. That is a ‘help’ that usually shows up iin a ‘mac help’ window. Sherlock doesn’t find it, and in
In my setting “for toast” i don’t recall changing anything but the “changes take effect on restart” warning is on. I must have clicked the close box there because revert is grayed out. As it stands, in for toast, only two extensions are checked:
    Microsoft ...utomation
    Microsoft ...e library
    Microsoft ...ed storage*
Whatever is the name, select it from the drop-down menu. Does it look like it should? If so, select it, then restart. You should have a fully operating computer but possibly without Toast (but that may not be the case). If you do not select your working set and instead restart or shut down with the set you mentioned above (all OFF except the Microsoft), you will have nothing wo
