  • Do i have a faulty iPod?

I bought a 30GB iPod with video yesterday. As of today I have had to completely reset the iPod to factory settings three times because it keeps messing up. I will bring it into iTunes and all of a sudden one of the songs wont play, i get little exclamation points by most of the songs...then it gets worse from there, and soon iTunes wont even find it. and every time i do play something on my iPod, it takes it forever to load it. Is this normal?

I am having a similar experience with mine. I got a 5G 30gb ipod for christmas and i have had....2 days of faults, then a major "error" with Ipod. First of all over the 2 days my Ipod seemed to work ok, Itunes repeatedly wiped my music from the Ipod,Windows said the Ipod_prefs file is corrupt,My Ipod Update software wont recognise it and now the Ipod just resets constantly.....I think this is a Faulty Ipod.....

  • Replace faulty iPod - now some vodcasts in my Library no longer sync to Pod

My iPod was in use for a day when I realized it had a faulty switch. Apple replaced it with no problem.
There had been on the first Pod a number of free Vodcasts, but I had actually played only two of them before exchanging for the new iPod.
Now, I cannot get these two vodcasts to get onto the iPod, although they are in my podcast Library. I have deleted and re-downloaded them. That did not solve it.
Since I began with a clean iPod, the problem must reside with some file in iTunes that "knows" I played these vodcasts, and assumes I don't want them synced. How do I fix this cleanly?

  • Do I have a faulty iPod Touch?

Hi, I have an iPod Touch 32Gb. I have upgraded(?) from a 160Gb Classic. I have around 30Gb of movies and music that I Sync up and first of all the Sync to the iPod touch takes A-G-E-S prolly around 2 - 3 hours for this much data where as my old 160 neverever took anywhere near that time. This problem is nothing compared to the operation of the unit. When I am listening to songs, I have a lot of my songs that play to a certain point (the same point each time) and then just jump to the next track. Not a big deal when its a song (although annoying) but a huge deal when its an audio book.
Is my iPod faulty or am I not doing something I should be? is there anyway to test the memory to see if its faulty?
Many thanks in advance for any help.

  • Yet Another Faulty iPod Classic - Connects to "computer" but not iTunes

In Oct 2009, I purchased 160GB Classic and is now out of warranty so unable to replace, and i am not too keen on buying another one (NZD $470 RRP).
It had been working as per normal until Dec 2010 when I tried to sync the iPod on newly updated iTunes (10.1) then it started to freeze during sync and now, it doesn't sync any longer. It is howing as "connected" on the iPod and in "My Computer", but doesn't show up in iTunes at all.
iTunes also freezes (doesn't work whatsoever) while my iPod is plugged in to my computer. I have tried everything that the "Apple" help sites suggest (the 5 "R's", formatting, disk mode etc) you name it, but to no avail.
Trying to fix this problem is becoming frustrating and time consuming. My wifes iPhone 4 works perfectly so I know it's not the computer or iTunes itself. As I (had) trust in Apple products, I would expect this to last for more than 15 months.
I have no idea how this all came to be, and would just like it to work as normal again. What a way for Apple to earn its' "money"...
PLEASE, if ANYONE can help here, it would be very much appreciated.

I purchased 4 x iPod Classic 160gb units between July 2008 and March 2009 (and a 120gb Classic with which we have not had a problem). One unit worked for one day and had to be returned and was replaced with a new unit. The other three all failed within the 12 month warranty period and were replaced by Apple. Of the four replacements, three have now failed about 15 months after they were replaced. Of course the units are outside warranty (in particular due to Apple only offering the greater of 3 months warranty or the remainder of the original warranty). The units haven’t been subjected to any forceful knocks and as demonstrated by the lack of physical marks on the units.
To have 7 out of 8 units fail in this timeframe is in my opinion indicative of a fundamental flaw in the build quality or design of the units. After putting my case to Apple Australia I finally received a reply confirming that the units were out of warranty and nothing could/would be done - but they did offer a "thank you gift" of a credit of up to $125 at the Apple Store if I spent at least $425.
I replied that this wasn’t satisfactory but took up the credit whilst it was offered to at least get some discount off a new 160gb Classic (more reliable I am led to believe!). I am now out of pocket over $770 with replacement three units and still have one remaining unit that could die at any time.
Apple is no longer replying to my emails. If anyone with similar experiences would like to join together to put pressure on Apple to make good, or pursue other actions via consumer affairs, please reply on this forum.

  • IPod Software Bug or Faulty iPod?

I just purchased a 5G iPod, my first iPod ever, and I've encountered a problem. I'm hoping someone else can try to reproduce it to see if the problem is in the iPod's OS or if perhaps I have a defective unit.
I'm a Mac user, but my iPod is formatted for Windows because I need to be able to connect it to Windows PC's for use as a USB hard drive. (I transport large Photoshop images to a local printer for output, and they're Windows-based.) The 'About' on the iPod says it's version 1.0.
Anyway, after spending much of the weekend familiarizing myself with the unit, I decided to try the alarm clock feature to wake up this morning. Well, the iPod 'came on' this morning at the set time but did not play the selected play list. I know it came on because the LCD screen illuminated. However, there was no sound, so I decided to investigate. I've come up with a series of steps that reproduce some odd behavior, so if you have at least one video and a play list on your 5G iPod and could follow the steps below, I'd be interested in knowing what happens for you.
    1) Set an alarm to play a play list a few minutes from the present time.
    2) Go to videos and start playing one, but stop the playing by pressing the 'menu' button.
    3) Now press and hold the 'pause/play' button to turn the iPod off.
    4) Watch the iPod to verify that it comes on when the alarm is triggered. For me, it does come on and it's in the state it was when it was turned off - i.e. at the list of videos - but no music is playing. That is, the alarm was triggered, but it doesn't play the specified play list.
    5) Now move your thumb around the click wheel as if to scroll the list of videos. For me, the menu items - i.e. the names of the videos - disappear. What I see is just the blue selection highlight that moves up and down on an otherwise blank screen. That ain't right.
Again, this is on a Windows-formatted iPod running version 1.0 (the latest as far as I can tell) of the iPod OS software.
If anyone else can try this out, whether you're iPod is formatted for Mac or Windows, it would prove helpful.
    Thanks much,
    Steve

  • Faulty Ipod casing help!

hey i just had my ipod for under a week and when i finished organizing my itunes and tried to connect the ipod to the computer i found that the lower part of the casing is indeed cracked and not joined properly to the metal base. whenever i hold the ipod by the lower part it makes a crackling noise. after close inspection there is indeed a crack between the plastic cover and the metal base. im currently on the waiting list at my local apple centre, i was wondering if the warranty will give me a replacement and do i still retain my 12month if i do get a replacement?
    thanx alot guys!

It seems like a manufacturer's defect, possibly during production/packaging. Same thing happened with my laptop, casing was scratched and cracked, you will be able to keep your warranty, but they will most likely not replace it for you, they will just fix it by putting in new covers. Good luck, hope it works out.

  • How to convince Apple Support of faulty iPod?

I have some Problems with the battery life of my touch.
    1. sometimes my touch won't charge the battery, even if it shows the battery charging symbol on the ipod. have to unplug an replug it several times, problem is since it is always stating that the battery is being charged i have to check an hour later or so if it really charged my ipod.
    2. the battery indicator does weird stuff. today for example the indicator showed like 80% charged… i plugged the ipod in, unplugged it 5 mins later and the battery went down to like 20%.
    3. sometimes battery is drained from 100% to 10% in half an hour, other times it lasts as long as it should…
these are problems i can't reproduce - they just happen! so i sent the ipod to apple to have a look at it. they sent it back without having done anything, but a reset. said they couldn't find a problem. i know they have software to check the hardware and stuff, but i'm not making this up in my mind.

Echoing Mrtotes, another great way to document is video the event. Most cell phones will allow small video recording, a camcorder or some small digital cameras allow for recording, my Olympus does this, had to use it to film a window leak on new construction and everyone thought I was nuts until I showed the video, then utter silence from the window manufacturer, the contractor, etc. When you charge the iPod, film what you're doing, show the battery level prior to charging and after. You may have already thought of this, but is it possible your cable for the iPod to charge or the USB connected is bad, thus robbing you of charging, that happened with several of the cigarette lighter chargers.
    Hope you get it resolved.

  • Faulty iPod recovery

I have a 40Gby click wheel iPod purchased new in October 2004. It has worked fine in conjunction with iTunes on Windows XP since then. Yesterday, the iPod started behaving strangely, skipping tracks and generally having trouble responding to song requests. I charged it fully, then connected it to my PC, which failed to recognise it. After many attempts and checking the troubleshooting web pages, I decided my only hope was to Restore the iPod. This wasn't easy either, since the iPod updater (latest version) had trouble finding the iPod. I think I eventually succeeded in getting the iPod restored and it then connected to iTunes apparently OK. It took several hours during which it claimed to be updating, but at the end of it all, just one podcast was on the iPod! Subsequent attempts to Restore the iPod have failed since I get the software to recognise the iPod at all now.
I suspect this iPod will have to be replaced, but would welcome any suggestions from anyone who has experienced this kind of problem and resolved it. (I should have said, I've tried various USB ports and reset the iPod several times during this exercise. To the best of my knowledge, the iPod hasn't been dropped or otherwise mishandled.)

thought about that, but i am a bit reluctant to try, worried that i 'blow' crap in there even more, if anything is in there...

  • Faulty Ipod classic 80gb

I have a 80gb ipod classic, it appears in "my computer" fine and in hidden files there is heaps of music, but itunes doesnt read the ipod and also when unplugged ipod says it has no music aswell, can anyone help me thankyou

Yes - I can see why that's a problem! I had a problem last week with a Windows machine not recognising an iPad in iTunes. I ended up reinstalling the USB driver, which fixed it.

  • Will apple replace My Scratched, Faulty iPod !??

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong space, it's just it was too difficult to find out how to post a new topic..
    Anyway,
I bought my iPod touch 2g on december 26th 2008, for the past 3 months i've been having problems trying to charge it. it would only charge if the Dock cable was pushed right in on to the port on the base, which means i would have to tie a rubber band around to keep it tight.
Now yesterday, i tried to sync with itunes, and my iPod would not connect, so i tried my dads cable, and he tried mine, his ipod using my cable worked fine, but his cable and my cable didn't work on my iPod.
Now my iPod will not charge at all, not via AC Power, nor via PC , using 2 different cables.
i rand apple and they are going to send me a box to send mine back with, but i need to keep some battery left in it to prove that it works. but i only have 50% left :S.
    Now my main question is.
I read some stories about apple replacing iPods, and everythin was in my favour, until i read a story about Apple would not replace someone's iPod, because the back was really scratched, and their happened to be 2 Hairline crack's. On the screen or not i don't know.
The back of my iPod is very scratched indeed, and my screen has a few scratches, but i'm now worried that my £165 christmas investment will not get repaired because of how bad the condition is. I have never opened my iPod, nor dropped it, the litmus paper inside the iPod Headphone port is still white. But i am now worried my iPod will remain a (very expensive,) scratched Paper wieght .
Although, even though my iPod will not charge. if i connect it to the pc when the iPod is turned off, it will automatically turn itslef on. but will not charge??
Please let me know if it will get replaced or not .
    Thanks in advance

If you're concerned about Apple refusing service or replacement of the unit due to the back being too scratched, realize that it's pretty near impossible to not have scratches on the back. It may in fact be scratched if you look at it the wrong way. Unless you cover it with an Invisible Shield or another similar protector right after you remove it from the box (which is exactly what I did), there will be scratches.

  • Will Apple replace my faulty iPod Touch for free?

I bought my iPod 4 months ago but now its having screen issues for no reason :/
its shaky whenever i try to scroll or pinch to zoom in and i tried restoring and resetting but it doesn't help. The problem goes away and comes back ! Also when I touch one part of the screen, it hits something on the other side. How do I send my iPod to apple for replacement? I don't have a store near me, also if they say everything is okay then would they charge me a fee for wasting their time? Thank you!

  • Help With Faulty iPod Touch 2nd Gen

I recently brought a ipod toch 2nd gen 16gb model and 2-3 days later the screen just died i guess i took it to a apple retail store in manchester trafford centre U.K and they told me that there is no power going to the screen well it was totally dead and they said ring up and arrange a appointment and they can then replace it there and then for me or fix it if it can be , they would have done it but i was a came late 10 minutes before it closes down and the paper work also needed to be done. So does that mean that i wont have to wait and they will replace it for me without me waiting a awfull long time i have 1 year warranty it expires on the 15th October 2009 , so my point is will they replace it there and then.

If you only had it for 2-3 days, demand a new one not a fix for that one. They should replace it on the spot. Make sure and bring your packaging and all accessories that came with your 2g touch so they have no excuse not to give you a new one.

  • Apple admits to some faulty iPod Touch screens

Just found this on Yahoo and thought I should post it:
    http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/patterson/6389
    S.

The cats out of the bag NOW! Now it is not, if they will fix, but rather, how quickly they will fix. IMHO, I never doubted Apple would take the blame, if that is in fact the case, which we now know was. I also never doubted they will make this right by all who own one. Time will tell, but they haven't done us wrong before, why would they even consider it now when they are on such a HOT streak. I say by next Friday there will be a plan annoounced by Apple on how to proceed with this.
