Faulty iPod recovery

I have a 40Gby click wheel iPod purchased new in October 2004. It has worked fine in conjunction with iTunes on Windows XP since then. Yesterday, the iPod started behaving strangely, skipping tracks and generally having trouble responding to song requests. I charged it fully, then connected it to my PC, which failed to recognise it. After many attempts and checking the troubleshooting web pages, I decided my only hope was to Restore the iPod. This wasn't easy either, since the iPod updater (latest version) had trouble finding the iPod. I think I eventually succeeded in getting the iPod restored and it then connected to iTunes apparently OK. It took several hours during which it claimed to be updating, but at the end of it all, just one podcast was on the iPod! Subsequent attempts to Restore the iPod have failed since I get the software to recognise the iPod at all now.
I suspect this iPod will have to be replaced, but would welcome any suggestions from anyone who has experienced this kind of problem and resolved it. (I should have said, I've tried various USB ports and reset the iPod several times during this exercise. To the best of my knowledge, the iPod hasn't been dropped or otherwise mishandled.)

thought about that, but i am a bit reluctant to try, worried that i 'blow' crap in there even more, if anything is in there...

    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
If the iPod was Disabled, place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer

  • Is there a FREE IPOD recovery software for Mavericks?

Just wondering if there is a Free IPOD recovery software for Mavericks.
    Thanks

    Yes. Next question please...
    Oh, you wanted details too?
See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
If you mean an iPod classic then Finder and iTunes should be all you need unless you want to grab the playlists and stats too.

  • Data Doctor Ipod recovery software

Has anyone ever used DataDoctor Ipod recovery software.I lost all my itunes which wasnt backed up. I bought the software and it seems to suck. Anyone care to help? The company is in India and has not responded to any of my support questions. Thanks, I am in Iraq and need my music!!!

OK before I start, APple has released iTUnes 7, so if this is what you have these programs may not fully work since iTUnes 7 is new and the third party software makers have not had a chance to update there programs.
Now put the ipod into "Manually update"
Then you can use podutil http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/software/podutil.php or yamipod http://www.yamipod.com to copy the files

  • Do i have a faulty iPod?

I bought a 30GB iPod with video yesterday. As of today I have had to completely reset the iPod to factory settings three times because it keeps messing up. I will bring it into iTunes and all of a sudden one of the songs wont play, i get little exclamation points by most of the songs...then it gets worse from there, and soon iTunes wont even find it. and every time i do play something on my iPod, it takes it forever to load it. Is this normal?

I am having a similar experience with mine. I got a 5G 30gb ipod for christmas and i have had....2 days of faults, then a major "error" with Ipod. First of all over the 2 days my Ipod seemed to work ok, Itunes repeatedly wiped my music from the Ipod,Windows said the Ipod_prefs file is corrupt,My Ipod Update software wont recognise it and now the Ipod just resets constantly.....I think this is a Faulty Ipod.....

  • My ipod touch isn't being recognized by iTunes or my computer. It's in "ipod recovery mode"?

My ipod touch 5th generation is not being recognized by my computer under devices or in itunes; however, when I click on devices and printers it comes up under "unspecified" and is labeled as "Apple mobile device usb driver." I right clicked the icon and hit troubleshooter and it opened itunes and told me I should restore and update my ipod. I did this twice and nothing has changed, it is still not being recognized. This is a big problem because the only thing that will pop up on the screen of my ipod is the symbol for the usb plug with an arrow pointing to the itunes symbol (meaning plug into itunes I assume). I have tried restarting my ipod and restarting my computer and nothing is working. I have the most recent version of itunes. How do I fix this?

    first try:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    next
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Replace faulty iPod - now some vodcasts in my Library no longer sync to Pod

My iPod was in use for a day when I realized it had a faulty switch. Apple replaced it with no problem.
There had been on the first Pod a number of free Vodcasts, but I had actually played only two of them before exchanging for the new iPod.
Now, I cannot get these two vodcasts to get onto the iPod, although they are in my podcast Library. I have deleted and re-downloaded them. That did not solve it.
Since I began with a clean iPod, the problem must reside with some file in iTunes that "knows" I played these vodcasts, and assumes I don't want them synced. How do I fix this cleanly?

  • IPod Recovery Mode Loop

Every time I connect my 20GB iPod to iTunes (7.0.2.16) the message appears "itunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must reset this iPod to use it with iTunes". I click reset, the iPod is reset to factory and I plug it into the power adaptor, then back into the PC with iTunes, all my songs are reloaded to the iPod and it works just like it did before I started. How do I stop this insanity? I have not had this problem before and it seems to have appeared when I updated to the iTunes 7.0.2.16.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

This could be caused by drive letter confusion on your computer.

Some of the methods rely on a consistent library on the device which, since it is in recovery mode, it probably hasn't got. The manual method should still work.

  • Ipod recovery problem

I'm sorry if this has been asked already but been through few pages without seeing the same topic. Thing is my ipod doesn't load up or nothing, it has got itself into recovery mode. The screen has no colour, the apple appears (No colour) then the usb cable to the itunes logo appear (Again no colour on the screen) I load up itunes and the message that the ipod is in recovery mode appears, so i click to restore it and the process gets a certain way before an error message keeps coming up. I have tried this a few times failing each time. I even tried manually getting out of the recovery mode by pressing and holding the on/off button and home button but no success.
Can anyone help...Many thanks in advance

you guys just might want to contact apple it sounds like theres one of two things i can think of.. is the hard drive is dead or something inside the ipod touch is losen and causing it to go into recovery mode
