Hi, for months now it router just crashes, no devices can connect or get an internet connection, even local media streaming stops, then upon reboot  it will work for a few minutes then it crashes again i have to repeat this process for about an hour then it might work for an hour or 2 and same thing again might get a few more hours out of it, in the morning it can last for a few hours until i have to repeat the whole proccess again, i spoke to a guy on the phone he just fobbed me off with "you cant have more than 5 devices connected at a time" is there a way i can request a replacement router on here with out having to ring someone and go through there play book for half an hour get passed to someone else and go through the playbook again.
thanks

  • Faulty Router

I think I have a faulty router. I cannot get connected to my hub even though it says signal strength is good. I have my own network set up through an apple time capsule and I can use the Internet through this. I'm on unlimited infinity and have home hub 6. I would just use my own network but it doesn't reach all over my house. Can anyone help?

    Do you mean a Homehub 5 ?

  • Faulty Router - Replacement.

I have a Bt Infinity HomeHub 2. The internet over WiFi drops every hour or so for about 3-5 minutes. During this time I have to wait until Windows, PS3 or my smartphone are 'allowed' to reconnect. It makes streaming anything a pain and playing online games almost impossible.
There is never any drop over ethernet. I actually have been using a homeplug to connect my PS3 as it is far more reliable.
I also have checked the logs on the bthomehub and there is nothing reported. To be honest the hub's portal is much too basic for any real diagnostics.
Basically I want a new router. Surely I am entitled to a free replacement? They can take my router and see if it works or not. I have heard the new routers are awful. I invisage getting one and then forking out for a proper Netgear or something down the line.

    There are some pictures here.

  • Faulty BT Homehub 5 - my experience

Hopefully this might help others as I found it very difficult to find anything quite like our situation and I needed basic guidance.  I had a new master socket with inbuilt splitter fitted for BT Infinity (apparently its very new to have the inbuilt splitter and took us a while to work that out - its distinguished by having both a phone and broadband point rather than just one point).
Last week I found my new BT homehub 5 which had been in use for about one month had stopped working and nothing was able to revive it.  As we had been sent the HH5 free and were out of contract, we had to either pay for a replacement or commit to another 12 month contract - that was the choice presented to me.  I also discovered that there was a contract for the existing HH that I was not aware of.  As my view on how this has all been handled will comprise a complaint I won't go into this here.
We attempted to set up an alternative router but it was so confusing - we discovered we needed a router modem (not just a router) as well as a BT openreach modem for it to work but it does work - hurray!  And better than the HH5.  So don't feel forced into paying for one or locking into a contract if this happens to you.

Does the bridge have a web interface where you can access its settings? Is that web interface on the same subnet as the home hub?
All you are using in effect, is a wireless client, bu I think you may find that it may have its own internal LAN IP address, which is different from the home hub.
Its worth checking, because I know if you use a TP-Link WA701ND in the wireless client mode, its IP address has to be on the same subnet as the home hub, otherwise it will not pass on DHCP requests from connected devices, to the home hub.

  • Faulty Router?? WHat do you think

I can connect to the internet directly from my Modem with noe problem. If I connect up the modem to the router and then to the computer it tell me I have 100mps but I can not connect to anything. Also none of my wireless devices will work.
I have swapped cables around with no change in results. All my lights that are supposed to be on are.
hen I ran the trouble shooting guide it told me to check connection to the modem? I did and I also reconnected that to the computer to ensure that connection was good, it was.
I am guessing I need to go grab another modem from walley world..
Any ideas, Is there a set up menu I missed?
Router worked fine for a year and half and then started kicking me off line randomly about a week ago.
    Thanks,
    Lee

  • Faulty Router Replaced - many dropouts a few month...

Hi there, I have seen many posts where users max speed has been dropped at the exchange. I understand this is to manage poor links and ensure QOS rather than raw speed with faults...
I had 330/20 configured which was fine for over a year.... then I had problems with my ASUS router, switching off/rebooting... and I saw that my max speed on speedchecker diagnostics was reduced from 330 to 212... (yes I know it's still very fast compared to many!)...
I have replaced my router now
What do I do to enquire about a reset. I note that forum mods can arrange this but only based on me doing something first... please advise (I am fairly sure I need to give screenshots of run-diagnostics page 3 days apart)
    Regards, Jed

It should reset automatically within 2 weeks, but to get it reset on DSL you need an engineer's visit in response to a fault. Sorry I don't know about FTTP.

  • Faulty router with USB?

I tried plugging in two different USB drives and the router didn't even "see" that it's plugged in even after numerous time of clicking "refersh".
Is this a common problem?  I even reformatted the USB drive to FAT+ format.
I have to take the unit back to the store if I can fix the problem here at home.
    Thanks for your help.

What’s the model number of that Western Digital? This article lists the storage devices and printers tested to work with the router List of tested USB hard drives and printers for the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router, EA6500.
If your USB storage device is not detected, click on refresh located at the bottom-right corner of the page.  If it’s still not detected, try using a different USB disk.  If none of your USB storage devices are detected, upgrade the firmware of your router. Reset the device and reconfigure.

  • BT Homehub 2 wireless problem

    Hello
I have been having problems with my Homehub for quite a long time but only really trying to sort it out now. The problem is that the wireless connection will be fine at 1 moment, then the next there will be "Limited connectivity". I know it is not a problem with the computer as it happens on all computers which are connected to the network at that point. However I have some computers with wired connections which will continue working without any problems, so it is not a drop in the internet connection.
I have tried changing settings like channel number etc. but this has never solved the problem. To fix it I have to restart the router, but this is only a temporary fix, and the problem can happen several times per day, which is very annoying. I believe its a faulty router, but was just wondering what everyone else thinks? I haven't contacted BT yet, but personally I believe a new router would fix it.

    welcome to the forum
did you install the BT cd?  if so I would suggest you uninstall it as it is known to cause problems with wifi connections.  Just let windows manage your connection
you can try downloading inssider2 (istumbler if MAC) and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. If you then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.
you can also try changing the wifi in the hub from b/g/n to just b/g unless all you devices are 'n' rated

  • Internet connection via Airport Extreme/router thats not working, why?

I have been having problems with the internet connection via Airport Extreme which I find it a bit unusual and its still driving me nuts! This is what happened:
I have lost my internet connection last Sunday evening upon my return from a weekend away from home. The last time I have used the internet connection on my macbook was the previous Friday morning. Prior to the apparent disconnection on Sunday, I have always used my internet connection wirelessly through Airport Extreme (that is connected via ethernet cable to the NETGEAR DG834v2 ADSL modem which had worked beautifully until the problem arose on my return). This wireless internet connection allowed me to surf the internet anywhere in my home.
However, upon the successful re-connection to the internet via the modem router, I have discovered several new problems. I have tried to set up the internet connection wirelessly again but instead the following happened:
    1. Router (Netgear) drops ADSL connection and cannot reconnect when connected to airport via Ethernet. (which is the case when using airport wireless).
    2. Router connects to ADSL fine when computer is connected to it via Ethernet. (However, router disconnects when magsafe power adapter is taken out for some inexplicable reason!)
    3. Router connects to ADSL fine when nothing is connected to the router (ie. No Ethernet connections)
    4. Router connects to ADSL fine when connected to airport via Ethernet and computer is connected to airport via Ethernet.
So from the above, I cannot connect to the internet properly whether wirelessly or not so I suspect it could be faulty router or could it be airport extreme? I have asked my ISP for an explanation and all they have said is that it cannot be the mis-configuration but could be to do with the power adaptors or the way plugs are set up and suggested I take out all the power plugs (and power surge protector) out to switch everything off, the macbook, router, printer and airport extreme. However, when I have re-plugged them all back in, the problems I have described above still persists!
Would appreciate any help if anyone here recognises why this is the case and what seems to be the cause of this. If so, what should I do? Though I have written back to my ISP again yesterday for more help so im waiting to hear from them...
    Thanks

  • WiFi only works near wireless router...

I have been living in my uni house for 8months with no internet problems at all. Since last week, when I sit in the front room (where the router is) I can get internet connection, however when I move into my room (the next door room) the internet completely goes.
I rang the internet company and they have upped the signal strength and changed the channel but still nothing.
I've come home for the weekend and now have the same problem at home It seems when I'm further than about 2/3 meters away from the router I get no connection, and then sometimes (not often) I get it and then it goes again.
has anyone had the same problem? Any suggestions?
    Thanks x

Same problems here for the most part:
This problem first happened about 6 months ago. I have used it on at least 10 different routers/connections, it is always the case that I have to be close to wireless antenna. Im running in 10.4.11. The other thing is I clearly remember when my internet stopped working from long distance. I was using it in my room and it just turned off while I was browsing the net. Because at that time I was not downloading any updates, I thought it was just a faulty router but my roommates macbook pro was not having any problems. Then at home, same story etc.. I just supposed it was always the hardware in my macbook that was broken/breaking/faulty, I never thought it was software.
I hope someone from apple can approach this problem. I'm sure there are other topics on this forum concerned with this problem.

  • Any ideas on my faulty Hub and lights...?

Yesterday morning...all was well, working from home...
Yesterday afternoon..no connectivity...hmm, checked the hub and only the power and wireless lights were illumninated blue...
So went through the old power on/off etc..same thing, checked a spare ADSL filter I had..still no joy/reset to defaults etc...after another reboot, power light was orange and every other light flashing purple intermittently!
After 20 odd mins on hold, finally got through to a pleasant chap who diagnosed the hub has being faulty...and another one will be delivered to my work address on Tuesday at the latest...
This morning, turned the hub on, power and wireless are blue again, everything else not illuminated..
Anyone has the same issue as this? The hub officially kerplunk?
Never thought i'd say it either, in a million years, but thank god for my neighbours Talk Talk BB...or else I'd have to get into the office to do 12 hours on call, of which I have only actually worked 30 mins since 7am!
    Cheers

It does sound goosed..I tried my spare BT ADSL filter and next doors too...neither resolved it...so does point to a router issue I spose.
Just wondered if anyone else had experienced similar issues...especially the disco lights!
Certain Flashing LED patterns mean the device has entered an error state of some kind, sometimes it is possible to tell (if you have a manual of technical data) what the error is.
Check that your ADSL is still functioning properly with a known good router if you can (before you attach the replacement) , as suggested  this looks like a faulty router.

  • Why is Wireless G router slower than Wireless B?

I have a wireless B router (BEFW11S4 V4) that is dropping my internet connection sometimes on a daily basis.  To restore it, I have to unplug the power and plug it back in.  It's a pain and interferes with my work, so I purchased a wireless G router (WRT54G2) to replace it.  Setting it up was quick and painless, but slowed my internet to a crawl.  I know that wireless connections are slower than wired, but a direct connection was about 10 times faster (according to several online speed tests) which I find unacceptable.
I have since removed it and gone back to the older faulty router to restore my internet connect to a speed that at least allows me to do my work.  I was not unhappy with my connection speed before.  I only replaced the router because it was dropping the connection, but I cannot understand why the new router was so much slower.
Any thoughts, hints, or suggestions before I return the new router to the store?
    Thanks!

    1) What Internet connection speed are you paying for?
    2) What Internet connection speed do you get when you wire your computer directly to your modem?
    3) What Internet connection speed do you get when you wire your computer to the WRT54G2?
    4) What Internet connection speed do you get through a wireless connection to the WRT54G2?
    5) Is your computer's wireless adapter a wireless b?  g?  n?
There are many causes for poor wireless connections, and many solutions:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers.  If you have external antenna, they should be vertical.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.   Delete your current network  (this will remove any old settings.)  Reboot computer.  Return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your current network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  You should connect automatically (it can take up to 2 minutes).  If you have trouble connecting, in the computer, temporarily turn off your computer software firewall, and see if that helps.
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.
Some users have reported improved wireless performance by switching from WEP to WPA encryption.
If you continue to have problems, try the following:
For wireless g routers, try setting the "Transmission Rate" to 54 Mbps.
If you still have trouble, download and install the latest firmware for your router. After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
    Hope this helps.

  • FIOS router causing static and popping noises on computer audio

Hi, I'm a less than two week old FIOS internet user and am loving the speed and service but I have one problem. The FIOS router seems to be causing static popping noises my desktop computers audio that is connected to the FIOS router by the yellow Ethernet cable. Theses noises don't occur on any of the laptops connected to the router by the wireless or when I connect a laptop to the router via a Ethernet cable.
Ways I found to eliminate the noises temporary:
Restarting the desktop computer or shutting down then turning on the desktop computer.
Ways I found to eliminate the noises permanently
Turning off and unplugging the router.
Hooking up the FIOS router via the Ethernet cable to a laptop. I unfortunately do not have a wireless built into my desktop.
    What I've tried and failed
First I thought it was the Ethernet cable, so I replaced it. The noises did not go away.
I thought it might be the headset I use which are connected to the computer by a usb port. Unplugging the headset and using earphones which are connect to the computer by the audio slot did not eliminate the noises.
Then I contacted Verizon, and they thought it might be a faulty router, so they sent me a new one. The noises unfortunately did not go away.
I then thought the noises might be occurring because the router was close to the computer. So I moved the router as far away as possible from the computer (its connect to the router by a Ethernet cable so it wasn't that far) but the noises didn't go away.
    Notes & Points
The noises do not start the moment I turn on the router and computer, but a hour or two after.
I think I've narrowed the problem down to occurring only when the desktop computer is connected to the router by the Ethernet cable. Though replacing the Ethernet cable has not resolved the issue.
I also have found that location of the FIOS router also doesn't matter since the noises did not return even though the router was right up against the computer when I connected the FIOS router to my laptop.
I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64, 3.5 gigs of ram, and a dual 2.0 GHz processor.
So that sums up my problem. If you guys have any tips or ideas of how to fix my issue, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a shielding problem on the AUDIO cables or a grounding issue.   PC sound systems are notorious for having lousy audio cables feeding (I regularly pickup the local FM station on my speakers).
Try replacing the audio cables with better quality shield cables and see if that helps.
Are the router, speakers, and PC all plugged into the same outlet?  Are they all polarized plugs?  If note, try flipping the power plug on the non-polarized connections.
The sound could be coming from interference INSIDE the PC itself ... the proximity of sound cables inside and the audio chipset to the ethernet chipset.   You didn't indicate if the audio/ethernet are on the motherboard or seperate cards.   If they are seperate cards, try relocating the cards furfher from one another inside the chassis and also look at the audio cable (particularly the analog cable that runs from the CD to the audio card to make sure it's not routed past or near the ethernet electronics.
How far distant is the router from the PC?  If you pull the ethernet cable from the router (not turn if off, unplug the ethernet cable running to the PC), does it stop?

WiFi only works close to router, DNS fail, Signal Bars present but Safari says no Internet, I've deleted and re-added through to reset and full reset, I had no problem with 4.3.2 only 4.3.3 both my iPhone4 and my iPad2. I am now beside router - no problem, but go 20 metres and WiFi becomes unstable. Only way to get either to work is disable WiFi either as a Hot Spot or turn it off and use the 3G connection. This worked with 4.3 & 4.3.2 what has gone wrong? I raised it at the Apple Store in Belfast as a problem but was told that there was no problem with Apple but I must have a faulty router - yeah - that's a lot of faulty routers, my home, my office, my holiday home, Starbucks, my friends house, my son's house. I've tried all the 'fixes'. I think it is a plan to force us to buy Apple Routers

Two ways out, I added two more Belkin Access Points in my house in Spain so that I'm not more than 10Mtrs away, (Reinforced Concrete & solar glass 2010)
I bought 3 Apple Airports, 1 x Extreme and 2 x Express (1 as a hard wired AP, 1 as an extender) for my other house (Brick construction 1930's)
Everthing now works perfectly, as I said 'an apple plot', so either blast them with signal or visit your nearest apple store.
Early beta iOS5 (iPad) is also much inproved in Beta 3, I have not had any problem with 'Lion'

  • Actiontec Router Conectivity Issues (Wireless, Wired, PS3, Wii)

So I have an Actiontec Router Rev E and I'm running into quite a few problems.
    Here's the Enviroment:
I live in an APT 1st floor  (4 Floors in building) There's about 10+ Wireless Networks that scan in my APT
I have mine set to Channel 1 since the strongest signals have chanel 6 & 11 (Help a little)
So i decided to purchase an Access Point Wireless N to attach to my Router/Modem to solve my wireless issues.
    Here's where the problems start.
On my PS3, laptop & router I can't connect on Full Duplex 100 MBPS to take full advanatage of simultanius upstream & downstream I have to set it on half duplex. Causing my wired conections to not take full advantage of the speed.
Doing a speed test I'm def. getting my 35/35 as far as verizon speed test go. But My home network can't take advanatage of this.
So if i plug my wireless router my connections barely get 15 MBPS on download & upload. Samething applies wired connections.
So my question comes down to...do i have a faulty router or am i running the wrong cables.
Any help or suggestions I will greattly apreciated it....as I am literally ready to dump this router out the window and lose my TV Guide, On Demand, and Widgets just to plug a regular router in.

On the duplex issue, the first thing is, both devices must be set to auto/auto or 100/Full.  This change must be the same on both connecting devices.  You can confirm what the Actiontec router is set to and seeing by logging into router and choose advanced.  Then choose Port configuration.  Here you will see what each port is configured at and when auto it will report back the speed/duplex of each device configured.  I have three devices connected and all are reporting 100 Full.
When you plug the Wireless N router in, do any of your wired devices connect to the new N router too?  Make sure any device that is connected to the N router is NOT connected to the wired router.
Report back results of these two and we can take it from there.
