Faulty screen?

My screen now looks like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennishwang/2613139619/
Do I need a new display?
It seems to be a hardware issue somewhere between the GPU and the screen. My external display looks fine, and if I take a screenshot of the affected screen it also looks fine.

Right - it seems to be a hardware problem between the graphics card and the screen. The image I posted is a picture of the screen. If I take a screenshot and look at it using my external monitor, it looks fine. I don't think this is a software issue - it happens at all times, whether I am starting my machine, in OS X, or even in Vista. I could be wrong, of course...
I'm not running Parallels, but I do use VMware Fusion. Also, I just installed Vista via Boot Camp the morning before this happened. I don't believe they're related, but who knows.
I don't believe I mentioned this, but I was using the MBP, and its monitor was fine. I then shut it down and closed the lid. When I started it back up, the screen was displaying this issue. It seems to me that perhaps the cable was already damaged or loose; that final movement killed it.

  • 3rd gen ipod touch faulty screen??

i have a 32gb ipod touch that i bought on the 10th of this month. i got GTA: chinatown wars for it but for some reason my punch/use gun button (on the right side) doesn't work. i've found that if i flip my ipod to it's other side the punch/use gun button works but then i have problems with my character movement button not working correctly. i've noticed not being able to click items in other games i have as well (on the right side) unless i flip my ipod around but then i have the same movement problems as before. do you think its a Faulty screen? i've never dropped my ipod and it still looks brand new 0 scratches.

    Welcome to the discussions,
did you try the suggestions in this article about troubleshooting touch screen response? http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1827
Tip: If you are going to take your device into a Apple Retail Store for evaluation, follow these steps to help the Mac Genius understand where your Multi-Touch display is experiencing unresponsiveness.
Open the basic calculator application to test all but the top row of the screen. Press each button on the calculator and verify activity.
To test the area at the top of the screen, rotate the device to change to the scientific calculator and press all the buttons in the left two rows.

  • Faulty screen graphic with keyboard volume adjustment

I have the HP TouchSmart 610-1030y and when I press the volume control buttons on the keyboard, instead of the graphic showing the volume control on the screen, all I get is a blank white box. The volume adjustment does work, it's just the screen graphic that is faulty. What drivers or software can I try re-installing to fix this? Pressing the volume control buttons on the side of the monitor does the same thing. Using Windows 7 64-bit. Thank you.

Keyboard, On Screen Display, Buttons software is what generates the volume graphics, if you head in that direction you should resolve it.

  • Possibly faulty screen (black screen but phone its self still works)

    Device info
    Your carrier:
    Blackberry Torch 9800
    Apps and free space
I have plenty of free space avaliable as I do not use my phone for anything other than calls/texts/BBM/Pictures (No Music/apps etc), I have an 8GB memory card.
Basically, My torch was working completely fine untill last night. I left it on the chair in my livingroom in perfect working order, I was sitting beside the phone the whole time. I then went back to check my phone because my red LED was flashing indicating that I had a message. I slid the top half up as usual but the screen was completely black. The keypad lit up and the green call button/blackberry button/back button/red call button all lit up perfectly fine as well. I then pressed the green call button twice and was still able to make a call therefor the handset its self has no battery problem or problem with the OS. Everything on the entire phone works except the screen. I am thinking possible backlight problems or a disconnected screen wire of some sort. The screen its self has not scratches or signs of damage and Im 100% sure I didnt damage the screen. I am just seeking some more knowledge as to what part is more than likely faulty and if it would be a cheap or expensive repair.
Thank you in advance and any further questions dont hesitate to ask, My torch has served me well for a little bit over a year.
    ******EDIT******
After a little bit of messing about its clear that the screen infact still works, I messed about sliding the screen up and down using the unlock botton on top and after around 30 seconds of fiddling the screen came on, The screen its self was readable but it did look very weird. So possibly a connector inside ?.

Yes, even if you've never synced your phone with iTunes ever.
The only exception is if you've synced to a different computer in the past.

  • Faulty Screen on Toshiba Thrive AT100

When completing some work on the application Kingston Office. The screen timed out (set 2 mins). I went to go switch the screen back on via the power button. Nothing happened, apart from the white power button stayed on rather than flashing, which signals the device is on standby.
The screen was black and nothing was happening. I switched off the device and restarted it, and when it should come back on, the Toshiba logo should have appeared. However it did not. The screen did not come on and load. However the device thought that it was okay, due to the device vibrating, saying I had a notification.
Can anyone advice me on what the problem could be, and how I could get around to fixing it.
    Thank You

    Hi
Im not sure whats wrong here but I presume the some serious hardware problem cause this.
But you can try to hold the Volume Up button and the power button together. This enters the hard reset recovery options maybe you will have some success using this otherwise I think you need to send the tablet to service point in order to check the hardware.

  • Nokia E71 Faulty Screen

I recently bought an E71 for my husband, it's a great phone but the screen has been powering off a few times recently, then he dropped it into some water and the screen is just remaining blank, although the rest of the phone works ok, eg, if someone calls he can answer etc, he can dial out if he knows the number, he can't look up his contacts/tect etc as the screen is blank!
Is this repairable if we take it somewhere? The phone isn't in warranty. Could we just buy a replacement screen?
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Faulty Screen - How to copy contacts?

Hi, My Husband has a Nokia 3110 and has broken the screen. All of his contacts are storen on the phone and I wondered if there is any way he can copy them onto his sim, without having to look at the screen (i.e. combination of numbers instead of looking for the options).
Have searched for ages and cant find any answers so I hope someone here can help. Not sure if it makes a difference but he is on Tesco network.
    Thanks in advance
    Katie x

    Hi Katielou;
I hear what you are saying. I have the same issue with an E62. My best bet since the contacts did not copy to my sim is to have the E62 repaired and try to copy the contacts. My new phone, the 2610 has no bluetooth and no removable SD chip but I am exploring whether I can find a cable to download the contacts from laptop to phone, or maybe an infrared transfer connection.
Let me know please if you hear anything.
    Thanks.

  • Faulty Screen Connection?

    Hi everyone,
I have had to come here since I have been unable to find Blackberry's customer services email address?
Anyway the problem I am having is that many white lines have appeared across half of the screen of my 8520. This is making the phone very hard to use. The problem appeared randomly yesterday afternoon after it spent 10 minutes by itself on my desk. There has been no water damage or any impact, the lines simply appeared! Resetting the phone only lead to more lines appearing.
It looks to my as if the screen connection may have somehow come loose but obviously I'm not going to go digging in the phone to try and repair it.
How can I go about contacting Blackberry about this issue and getting it repaired?
    Thanks very much,
    Nelson

You need to contact your authorized seller for the warranty service.
You can go direct through RIM, but that will cost you money for a per incident support call.
So, best that you contact your service provider first.

  • Combo drive faulty, screen off

Hi, had my mac for about 6 months plus, and i've never had any problems with it. looked at the many posts as much as i could, but none really contained info to my, seemingly unique, situation:
lately, my combo drive has been acting weird. it would eject disks that previously worked and even with no disk in teh drive it seems like its trying to load or eject one anyway.
next day, i couldnt insert a disk at all. like there was a something blocking the slot.
i decided to restart the mac and that's when the screen went blank. at first i'd hear the start-up tone, but the gray screen was black (but still lit). after one more restart (force shut down), the screen went completely blank, i don't hear a start up tone and the screen doesnt seem to be lit at all.
please help out a scared for his baby-mac user!
    thanks!

    You're in a tough spot.
Without a working disk drive, you can't boot off of the install DVD to verify your hard disk or run the Apple hardware test. It's worth giving it a shot though. Insert the first of the two DVDs that came with your computer and turn it on while holding the D key. If it boots from the DVD, run the Apple hardware test and see what you get.
If you can't get the thing to boot from a disk, your other option is to find a friend with a Mac, connect your laptop to his with a FireWire cable (make sure your computer is off), and then turn on your Mac while holding the T key. This will mount your hard disk as a readable drive on your Friend's desktop. From here, you can run Disk Utility to verify the disk and repair it if needed. You can also access all your files in order to back them up (which, hopefully, you've done prior to this!)
If, after repairing the hard disk, the Mac still won't start up and all you get is a black screen, you can try resetting the NVRAM by holding commandoption+pr while booting. If that doesn't work, it's time to take it to the Apple store.

  • Replacement retina screen faulty. Rights?

    Hi there,
I bought a 15" MacBook Pro retina Dec 2012. Started getting white lines flickering across the screen in Oct 2013, got it repaired under warranty in same month. Turned on laptop today, and hey presto same thing is happening.
My question is, my warranty ended Dec 2013, am I screwed? Or am I covered since its the same fault they corrected in Oct 2013?
Im hoping Apple should honour a year defect on the replacement part?
I don't use the laptop that much, so usage isn't the cause. Seems to be faulty screens.. What are my rights here?
I Can't talk to Apple tech support as my warranty has now lapsed based on purchase date.
    help please?
    thanks

  • Thinkpad W500 screen - seems very dim. typical? faulty?

Having issues with the apparent brightness of my Lenovo W500 (suspected Samsung display) in reasonable ambient light levels,  I thought I'd try measuring the lux with a tool I found at  ->http://www.tuug.fi/~toni/serendipity/index.php?/archives/12-Luxus-light-meter-desktop-widget-for-N90...  -- just for a more objective, albeit uncalibrated view on brightness.
In each case I placed the proximity sensor directly over the panel, so it was around 5cm "in" from the edge & displayed an all-white window.
    Here's my rough results
    Lenovo W500 (full)                            R=083 L=063 T=060
    Dell 2005fp desktop (normal)                  R=151 L=155 T=142
    old? HP 17" 4:3 (normal)                      R=157 L=143 T=180
    Dell Studio 15 1920 laptop led (in dark room) R=104 L=111 T=110
    Dell Studio 15 1920 laptop led (full)         R=214 L=212 T=226
    Dell Studio 17 laptop led (full)              R=300 L=314 T=297
    ? HP 19" unknown (low lighting)               L=098 R=107 T=113
    ? HP 19" unknown (full)                       L=138 R=153 T=162
From this "comfortable" is IMO in the region 130-150 - the W500 fals way way below this.
    Has anyone else measured?
    What's reasonable?
I believe the spec is around 175-180 -- but that's obviously a calibrated test
The dell 2005fp is rated at 300 yet I score 150 above (though this is NOT on max, just normal)
The dell studio 17 is rated around 317 on full -- and the score above shows this as close
I can only conclude therefore my measurements are in the right ball park
The W500 is on full brightness & using the appropriate monitor.inf under win 7
What I should really do is have a proper colorimiter calibration and measurement done.
The "spec" of the W500 panel is 180-200 I believe - it's clearly not fair to use the numbers literally, but something is very very wrong.
Does this suggest my panel is faulty? To be honest I don't think I've seen a "good" W500 but I wonder if it meets the spec?
Anyone else fancy measuring a "current" laptop for comparison -- especially any other W500 owners (some of which have samsung panels, some have LG panels)

I no longer have W500 but I do remember screen being very dim. Notebookcheck measured a much higher value (130 on average?) even in comparison to other notebooks so I also suggest you try to get a replacement. I guess it is ok to use the manufacturer values when reporting a faulty screen.

  • MacBook Pro 13" screen brightness

I just bought a 13" MacBook Pro and find the screen brightness and contrast is much less than expected. It basically has to be turned up full on AC to be acceptable, which is very unexpected, since I am typing on a 16 month old MacBook Air now that is about the same at 80% of screen brightness. The contrast is less pronounced on the new machine, too, and the notion of 60% more color saturation seems faulty. I am going to return it and see if the Apple Store thinks this is normal or a faulty screen. Am I being unreasonable to think the new MBP screen should be at least equivalent to the original Air screen?
    Message was edited by: MacBook

Yes, I agree that there is something different about the two displays. I conducted my own side-by-side comparison -- in the same room lighting, and also switching the places of the two machines -- and found at any given setting, the 13" MacBook Pro was darker than the MacBook Air. Furthermore, when I first started the machine, the MBP's keyboard backlighting would not go off, no matter the lighting. Then, when I went to make these comparisons, the MBP's keyboard backlighting would not come on.
This linked picture is a composite from two pictures taken in succession in the same lighting and angles, just as they came out of the camera, showing the relative brightness of the two. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2547/3844348963e76728bce2o.png
So, I packed up the machine for a trip to the Apple Store and either an exchange or a return.
