Faulty UK USB Power Brick/Wall Charger Drains iPhone Battery

I'm writing this post more from an informative perspective, rather than from a question seeking a response.
I have a genuine Apple UK USB wall charger which is at least 2 years old - it either came with my current iPhone 5 or old iPhone 4 from 4 years ago (both look identical).
Recently on charging my phone overnight, I've woken up (late - as the alarm consequently didn't work) to find that the power had drained from my phone rather than the expected charge happening. Having an old phone, I assumed it was the fault of the phone and booked it in for a genius bar visit. Being annoyed about the 1 week+ delay for the next genius bar appointment, I purchased a new iPhone to use temporarily for a week which would then be returned for a full refund on receipt of a replacement for mine.
On testing out the brand new iPhone with the charger, it appears that the same happens:
On plugging in the new phone to the charger once it has been fully charged (100%), within 5 minutes the charge in the phone has become 97%.
I'm guessing it is quite unusual for a USB brick to fail in this way - to actually drain the phone of charge?

I have the dock connector option for my factory stereo as well and am also seeing it drain the iPhone battery. What's odd is that it used to charge just fine.
Initially the iPhone wouldn't route audio through the dock connector in my vehicle. It would see that it was plugged in and gave the Airplane Mode prompt, but would only play audio from its internal speaker. It did, however, charge as expected. Then the iPhone software update 1.0.1 came out which solved the audio issue and allowed me to get the audio to my deck properly. I can't say for sure if it was still charging the iPhone at that point, but it definitely wasn't /draining/ it. Then, right around the time of the 1.0.2 update I started to notice significant drops in battery power when unplugging it after a drive to or from work (usually around 25 minutes). The audio still works fine, but the battery seems to drop at least 15-20% over that drive, whether I have any music playing or just have the iPhone idle but plugged in.
So, software problem, maybe? I have a hard time believing something suggendly changed with the dock connector in my vehicle...

  • USB Power AC Wall Charger

    Hi,
I've been charging through the USB port on the computer and it takes about 3 hours, but I've left it in for 4 hours. I'm considering buying a wall charger and wanted to know how long it takes to charge the nano. Can it be fully charged within an hour? Thanks.

It depends on the battery level when you start charging
as stated in the nano spec, a full charge is 3-4 hours

  • Can i use my old ipod firewire power brick to charge my iphone?

i have a power brick from an old 20g b&w ipod. it looks like a laptop brick, but smaller. it has a FW socket and says it puts out 12v 67a.
i'm going on a trip and would like a spare charger. will this work for my iphone 3g or will it fry it?
    thanks!
btw - i did a search on this topic and found similar threads, but none addressed this particular FW charger.

i'm getting a 404 error on that link for the ipod touch manual. but i looked at p.33 of the iphone user's guide, and it does say that you can't use a FW charger. it doesn't say why, however.
i see that the iphone charger is 5w/1a. what happens if you use a 12w/67a charger with a device that's configured for the former?
according to somebody in this thread, the device being powered "requests" only the power it needs, so you can use a more powerful charger (a MBP charger for a MB, for example) - but you can't use a less powerful charger to charge a device that needs more power (a MB charger for a MBP, for example).
(for instance, can you charge a macbook with a macbook pro brick - i know you can't do the reverse)

  • Do I have to have an apple USB power adapter to charge the ipod or can i use one for a htc phone?

Must I have an Apple USB power adaptor to charge an ipod or can I use the power adaptor from my htc cell phone?

Read the cell phone user manual to see if the charger can charge an iPod Nano.
FYI the usb power charger (AC) does not have to come from Apple.  I purchased mine from Macmall.com

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My IPhone 4 will not charge or turn on.  Ive tried charging on the usb and the wall charger.  still no luck!

My I phone 4 will not charge there is just a dark screen.  Ive tried charging it with the USB cable and the wall charger still not luck.  It will not even turn on.

Try resetting it: hold down the power and the Home button for about ten seconds until the Apple icon appears on the screen.

  • Charge iPod Nanno with wall charger from iPhone?

I'm lending my 2nd gen iPod Nanno to a friend who doesn't have a computer. I've loaded it with audibooks, but I want her to be able to recharge the battery.
Can I safely use the wall charger that comes with the iPhone (and connects with a standard iPod USB cable) with the iPod Nanno? Or will it fry the battery?

Since this is the charger that comes with the iPhone
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB352LL/B?mco=NDkwNjc4Mw
and the description says both the iPhone and iPod nano (2nd gen) are compatible, it should be fine.

  • IOS 7 draining iPhone battery

Is anyone else having difficulty since the new update. It is really draining my battery very quickly. The new colors are making it harder to see the icons.

Can't do anything about the icons, I don't think they look all that bad. But the battery issue will go away in time. I have had so many battery issues on my ipad mini with a new update. http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/19/ios-7-battery-life-fix/
Use that for a fix, after that just use your idevices. It will get better. 6.1.2 after I updated to that my battery was so bad. I'm still on 6.1.2 because of every update Apple releases it for some weird reason messes with our battery's. now I get 14 hours from my ipad min, it was 8-9. But after using it and charing it, it got better. But I have a lot of stuff disabled. I use safari, games and messages.
Sorry but I have to say this, everyone has seen ios 7 and the way it looks and operates. Correct? Why did you update if you didn't like how it looks? The UI is nothing like Android! If you don't like the new look of Apples ios....sell it!! Get a different phone! Or tablet! Stop crying about the way it looks! Apple thought this was the way people wanted it. You people make me sick! Your never happy with Apple. Apple did this wrong! Apple did that wrong! It's Android! It's Windows! Just shut mm  up! I'm deciding if I want to download it, but people like you have to hurry up and get it, and show your friends, so someone else doesn't like it so you don't like it. I'm waiting because I'm smarter. I don't need it right now because ios 6.1.2 is doing just fine. It's your fault! Not Apples!

  • Is it possible to power the macbook pro on just the wall charger, without the battery?

I'd like to be able to not even use the battery on my computer. Is it possible to run it just off of the wall plugin?

I have a late 08 Macbook Uni,  I wanted to run it without the battery when I first got it since I got used to running my Dell Laptop without batteries to save my battery from dying because of windows bad power management.
I found out that my macbook runs much slower without the battery.  Can't really tell you why it just does.
Do remember that Macbooks have a much better power management system than windows.  My Dell Laptop battery didn't even last 3 years before it fully died.
My late 08 Macbook is way over it's 1000 charge cycle ( i'm at 1067 ) and i'm still getting over 3 hours from my original battery.
I suggest you leave your battery in.
Just follow apple's battery care procedure to make your battery last longer - if that's what you're worried about.
    good luck

  • UK USB power adaptor not Charging

I bought an iPhone 3G last week from the O2 shop - I have tried the UK 3 pin plug in charger with the phone - but it does not charge, cable supplied works when plugs into USB on my Macs.
I have tried the adaptor with my 5Gen ipod, still no charge.
Is there a return policy? - who should I chase for the replacement, O2 or apple store.

Applecare suggested the best option is to take the adaptor into an apple store for a no hassle exchange accessory...
She said if I wanted to exchange it at 02 it would have to be a replacement boxed product Handset and all, which involves backing up all my data etc...
Trip to local store is not a problem!

  • Using MacBook Power Brick to Charge iPad?

I get tired of carrying around multiple chargers for my Apple devices when I travel. Is there some kind of MagSafe adapter to 30-pin and lightning connectors that would allow me to carry only one charger (and cable) to power all of my devices?
I only ever need to charge one device at a time, so why carry more than one? Everything syncs wirelessly, so no need for data cables.

    James Ward4 wrote:
...and why would you want to?
Lots of reasons! Keyboard sharing would be extremely convenient for anyone who travels. Also, if I could control my ipad with my macbook, I could connect to different VPNs, one on the mac and one on the ipad (I can actually connect to multiple vpns simultaneously on my mac, but have a 3rd connection that restricts the others).

  • My Apple USB Power adapter wont charge my ipod?

Can anyone tell me what could be the problem? please.

Where do you have it plugged in? It has to be plugged into a powered USB port (like directly into the computer or a powered adapter) there's not enough power from the USB ports on the keyboard.
Do you have your computer turned on? If the computer is off there isn't any power going to the USB ports
