Faulty Wifi On 3GS?

Need some info about the wifi on the 3gs. Seems mine is acting up from day one.
Had the 3g prior to getting the 3gs in june, i use the wifi at home all the time on the iPhone, my router is the eircom netopia.
I always used the wifi at home when on my 3g, connection was perfect, never any problems. But when i switched to the 3gs, thats when i started having the problems.
What's happening is, i'll be using the wifi and go to load a page and it'll just hang. I then have to go into the phone settings and turn off the wifi for a min then back on again for it to work. This happens all the time.
Also, the signal gets week and drops out completely when i'm in my kitchen. But this never happened with my 3g, perfect signal all over the house.
Has anyone came across any of these problems? Bad wifi on the 3gs or faulty phone?
Thanks

I have a brand new 3GS that has very unreliable wifi access as well.
When I connect to the wifi in my office, it will work for a few minutes but then, even though it shows the connection is there, it will not transfer any data.
The only thing is, mine works perfectly well at home with my wifi network, just not at my office on our company wifi - except for a few minutes when I turn the device on. This happens with two different wifi networks in our office that I have tried. All of our iPhone 3G users have no problems with these networks.
Again, I have no problem with my home network so I don't think it's the wireless card in the device.
If I turn the phone off and back on, it will work for a few minutes. Resetting the network settings does not correct the issue.
This is a brand new iPhone 3GS running 3.1.2 OS. Judging by the number of posts like this, it seems like the 3GS is exceptionally prone to wifi problems.

  • Is there a problem with iPhone update server, I can't seem to update my IOS on my wife's 3GS iPhone, keep getting message that the server is not reachable, yet I am connected to internet and had no problem syncing the phone or downloading iTunes software

What's up with the iPhone update server. I have repeatedly tried in recent days to update the IOS software on my wife's 3GS iPhone but keep getting message that the iPhone update server cannot be contacted. The phone syncs normally and I am sure I am connected to the internet properly. Also I have successfully updated ITunes software during this same time frame.  What gives??

Try this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694 and look at this section.

Install the latest version of iTunes.
Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.

Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

  • My iPhone 4S was recently replaced as it had a faulty wifi antenna. The new phone no longer syncs iMessage with my ipad like the old one used to.

My iMessages were always automatically synced with my  6 monthold iPhone 4S. However the phone recently had to be replaced by apple because of a faulty wifi antenna. The new phone was restored from backup. It works fine but iMessage no longer syncs with my ipad. I've looked into the settings and can't see anything wrong? I can iMessage from my phone and iMessage from my ipad but they don't synch. Very frustrating. Would appreciate some help. My nearest spple store is 30 miles away. Thank you so much.

  • I have an iphone4, just got my wife a 3gs, can i just plug it in to my computer and sync it on the same account

I have a iphone4 and just got my wife a 3gs, can i just plug it in to sync it on my account?

    Yes.
You can sync as many iphone/ipods/ipads as you like to one computer.

  • Wary about upgrading my wife's 3gs from ios4 to ios6. will the data associated with an app be lost or will it be restored from the backup after the upgrade completes. There is no way to export, email or even print the data contained in the app

wary about upgrading my wife's 3gs from ios4 to ios6. will the data associated with an app be lost or will it be restored from the backup after the upgrade completes. There is no way to export, email or even print the data contained in the app so I am concerned

If the backup and restore takes place properly, you shouldn't have any issue as millions of people have done an update from iOS 4.

  • How can i back up my wifes iPhone 3GS with my iTunes ?

I'm having problems trying to backup my wifes iPhone......
Basically, she has been using a 3GS that was my sons some years ago.....but now that my Daughter has upgraded, we have an iPhone 4 that she can start using instead.
However, when I connect to my iTunes, although it can see the 3GS, it doesnt give me any option to 'Backup', - which it did recently when I did the same exercise for my Daughters 'upgrade' and change of phone. (4 - 4S)
My iTunes is only giving me the options to 'set up as a new iPhone', or Restore from the Backups of either mine or my daughter's phones.
Is this to do with the software perhaps ?   Or does iTunes limit the number of handsets it will 'sync/backup' with ?
    Any ideas/advice gratefully received......
    Many thx .
    Chris

Select setup as "New", the next screen should prompt you to rename your phone. Just name it what you already have it named. After that, you should be able to sync/backup and all of your data & settings will still be exactly as you've already set them up on your phone. That message is more threatening than what really happens.

  • HT204409 wifi on 3gs drop in and out why?

why does my wifi drop in and out on my 3gs ?

    Power cycle the Wi-Fi router.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Does the issue still occur?
If so, try a restore as new.
If it still continues, you may have a hardware issue.  Take it to Apple for evaluation.

  • Poor WiFi on 3GS 5.1.1

Since updating my sons 3GS to 5.1.1 he has been complaining about poor wifi. In fact with A BT Homehub 3, Airport Extreme & a couple of Airport Expresses he has trouble seeing any if these to connect to. I have a Macbook Pro, iphone 4S & ipad and these have no issues.
This appears to be a common fault with many reported instances.
Has anybody come up with a solution?

It's the opposite for me, i get poor (like 500kbs) throughput on my airport extreme at home but anywhere else such as a neighbors linksys (3-4mbs) or my wireless at the college (one time I hit 8mbs) I get fast data rates as tested by the speedtest app. My home laptop and desktop get 6mbs.
But really, I would never have noticed if not for reading these threads. I almost wonder if speedtest app doesn't like apple routers or something as I downloaded a free itunes download and it really wasn't that slow.
Here's hoping for apple airport and/or iphone firmware!

  • Poor WIFI on 3GS

Just got the new 3GS and am impressed except for the wifi is poor compared to my original iphone. It latches on fine and displays the wifi signal as full yet when i go to safari or email etc it just sits on the loading page for ages whereas my old iphone would load immediatley as im on a 5mb connection speed.
Anyone else had this or is it a hardware issue?

  • No persistent WiFi on 3GS running iOS4

One of the new feature on iOS4 is Persistent wifi even after you lock the phone. This is great for me since I'm on the 200Mb/mon data plan, and my iPhone 3GS is doing alot of background activities that consumes data while I'm at sleep, for example: fetch emails, push alerts, Exchange push...
What I've noticed after a month of iOS4 use is that the persistent wifi doesn't work as advertised, sometimes it works, but most of the time it disconnects me from wifi a moment after I locked the screen.
Anyone has answer to that? Is there an option to enable/disable the persistent wifi?

Basics from the User Guide are restart, reset, restore.  Have these been tried at all?

  • All of he email messages on my Iphone 4 and my wifes Iphone 3gs mysteriously were deleted this morning.  Why?

When I checked email this morning, 4/18/2011, all of my saved email messages were gone.  I checked my wifes 3GS this evening, and the same thing had happened.  We both use Comcast email.  Any idea why this happened?

What is the account type - POP or IMAP?
Sounds like the account is a POP accout is the sent messages are not available.
If so, what is the account setting with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account for removing messages from the server after being downloaded by the email client?
If the email client on your computer is removing messages from the server after being downloaded, the messages will be removed from your iPhone as well since the messages are no longer available on the server.
Although it is possible to access a POP account with more than one email client, a POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.

  • Cant play over wifi on 3gs

Hubby and I both have the iphone 3gs. When we try to play games from the app store and play peer to peer we can never join a game. Even just trying to direct connect over our home network doesnt work. Sometimes the other player will flash on the screen for a second then disappear. I have been trying to get this working for a week now. We have different static ips on our iphones so thats ok. We can both surf fine over the internet using wifi too.
On our previous iphones we could 2 player games over wifi fine.
Has anyone got a clue what might be happening?

My wife and I had the same problem. I discovered going into Airplane Mode then turning on our Local WiFi connection works great. But you must stay in airplane mode while playing. We have 2 3Gs's also, and we haven't changed our local network from when we had 2 of the original 2G iPhones. And the 2G iPhones worked well without turning on airplane mode. Apparently 3Gs seems to have Radio issues. Hope that helps.

  • I had a phone with a faulty wifi and microphone, apple gave me a replacement handset with the same problem! what do i do now?

I bought an iphone 5 and the phone had connectivity problems with the wifi, it wouldnt even recognise it unless you are in the same room and even then it was merely only sometimes, the microphone was completely gone and the other person i was on the phone too could never hear and as well the it wouldnt recognise my sim alot of the time either, the phone read no service. Apple gave me a replacement handset in store which turned out to have the exact same problems! ... what do i do now? .... i dont want to pay for a train to the nearest store again to be given another faulty phone!

    You're welcome.
Advertisements when using the Safari browser on your Mac?
If so, at the Safari menu bar go to Safari and select Preferences.
    Select Security.
    Is Block pop-up Windows selected?
    Select Privacy.
Is Ask websites not to track me selected for Website tracking?
There is also a Safari extension called AdBlock and when enabled should help.
Regarding your iPad Mini, try a reset which is similar to a computer restart and is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.

  • Is HP using faulty WiFi cards?

Is HP using defective WiFi cards in their laptops?
I ask, as I've now spent several hours trying to fathom why I cannot get a connection speed above 72Mbps.
I've seen tons of posts on numerous forums.
    All have the same thing in common;
       Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 b/g/n wifi adaptors
I've followed every bit of advice I can.
    I've reset the router,
    I've changed the channel
    I've changed the power settings.
I've manually ensured the wifi is at full power
I've manually changed adaptor settings (singular, paired and tripled) through every computation
    I've disabled/enabled the device
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers (current and last 2 versions)
I've even rang the BB supplier (virgin) to ensure there are no faults.  They have no compatibility issues flagged.
I even tried ringing HP support, but the quietly (without telling me) passed me through to PC World for tech support (where the laptop was purchased).  According to their support, they get calls about this sort of thing frequently enough to suggest I bring the laptop in for replacement.
So ... what is it HP?
Is it a compatibility issue with Windows 8.1 and the wifi card (driver limitations),
or are you using faulty/naff wifi cards?

  • AIM just won't push on my wife's 3GS

I have a 3G, she has a 3GS and her phone will not push IMs. Its not the accounts because I've signed on both names on both phones and only mine pushes. I've tried deleting the Apps from her phone and reinstalling them via on phone App store and by resyncing them with iTunes. I've reset her phone. I even downloaded the paid version of AIM and the same thing happens. It works fine on my phone, but won't on hers.
I've obviously set all of the correct options to enable pushing, both on the phone and on the apps. At one point I had both phones next to each other to verify all of the settings were identical and they were.
Still the same thing. AIM just won't push on her phone.
    Seriously, ***? Can anyone help?

I kind of had the same problem with my brother's iPhone 3G. I gave him my 3G and I took the 3G S. My AIM was working fine but his just wasn't. All I did was a hard reset on the phone by pressing the sleep and home button, then I turned the phone on, then SETTINGS - NOTIFICATIONS-Turned off and on, then in NOTIFICATIONS - AIM make sure to turn al services on close and try it.
This actually worked for me. But if it does not work for you, try by deleting the app, then turn notifications off, download the app again and it should automatically ask you to turn notifications on when you download it and open it. And by the way the free version should do. Don't need to buy the paid version even though it might to late. Good luck...
