Favicons in safari
I see that there are other threads about favicons in safari bookmark bar instead of text, but they all seem to say that it's not possible.
I found this links that shows that it should be possible with Glims, but I cannot get it to work myself.
anyone knows about this?

Glims can do what you want but it has been known to cause Safari to crash.
Install > Glims for Safari | www.MacHangout.com
If you have problems > How do I uninstall Glims? | www.MacHangout.com
If webpage icons are that important to you, and Glims doesn't work for you, use the Firefox browser.
Firefox loads webpage icons automatically instead of text. No third party add on is necessary.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Safari/WebpageIcons.db
Click Go then move the WebpageIcons.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. It may take a day for your webpage icons to re populate. -
Any way to get favicons in Safari 6.0 bookmarks bar yet?
Lack of favicons in bookmarks bar is the #1 reason (of many) why I don't like using Safari....but as long as Chrome continues to have crash issues with rMBP (and now Flash stopped working in the 22.0.1229.2 dev version), I'm stuck with it for some things. Is there an extension out there that'll enable this and I just haven't been able to find it?
@hpr : I was running the dev version because it provided a LOT more stability with Chrome/Flash (while I waited to receive my "free upgrade to mountain lion" email from apple), and it also addressed the Retina font-rendering issues. Latest official Chrome release was super crashtastic for me -- multiple kernel panics daily. Apparently this is/was An Issue for the new rMBP + Chrome + Flash. Honestly, though, this thing reboots so freaking fast it wasn't even *that* much of an issue.
Finally jumping to Mountain Lion right now...hopefully that'll stabilize things. If not, back to the dev version I go. Chrome has spoiled me - I just can't deal with Safari anymore.

There are one reason left for me to not to use Safari. Safari getting faster and faster.
I do not use names for my favorites especially the ones in bookmark bar. Because favicons tell me what really are.
Do we really need to read the name of the bookmark?
Do we really need to waste the valuable space on bookmarks bar?

There must be an extention, tweak or any other solution for that.

Favicons on safari 7.1 are gone after update.
My imac is a 2,9 Ghz Intel core I5 with a 8GO memory 1600 MHz DDR3 running on OSX Mavericks 10.9.5 I installed the safari 7.1 version, since then the favicons are disappearing one after the other, very frustrating! anybody with a solution?

Favicons in Safari Favorites Bar?
Has Safari support ever responded to the questions/comments about using website Favicons in Favorites Bar? I am heading back to Chrome in the meantime.
At present in Safari 7, there is no way to add favicons to Bookmarks placed in the Favorites bar itself.
If you place the Bookmark in a folder and place the folder in the Favorites bar, Bookmarks
listed in it will show the favicons.

Disable and delete favicons in Safari 3.0.4?

I used to use TinkerTool to disable these waste-of-space icons, but right now a Leopard-ready version of TinkerTool is delayed. Is there any to delete and disable the favicons in Leopard's Safari?

Go to your Finder:
Your User Account>Library>Safari folder. There, using column view, click on the Icons folder. In the next column to the right select all of the folder, then move them to the trash.
Next, single-click on the Icons folder. Command + I to bring up the Info panel. Then check the "locked" box to prevent entries. Also, change the permissions at the bottom to read "no access".
Restart Safari. That ought to keep the Favicon file from building. -
Safari started about a month ago getting hung up when loading, ending up with just not loading at all. Then I started getting messages that I was unable to join my network. I can get online at my office wirelessly(different network)but Safari is still very slow. At home, with my linksys router and Time Warner cable modem, I now only occasionally can get online.When I do get online, Ichat crashes continuously. My desktops work, and my husband's wireless radio works, but not my laptop. I have tried resetting router, called cable company and they said modem was fine. I removed plists and favicons, reset Safari, and added Open DNS numbers, which I later removed because it made connecting worse. I have run Disk Utility and repaired preferences. What is left??? I am reluctant to do the reinstall/archive. Pros and cons of this course of action? Sally
I had the Safari problem in terms of it getting hung up while loading web addresses and had to go through diagnostics every time I moved the laptop from office network to home instead of it switching automatically. How do I tell if Little Snitch is still there? I can see it in the download queue, but no where else. Also, even tho I have to switch manually to the office network and Safari is slow, at least I stay online here without Safari stopping or getting error messages, which makes me wonder if my router is messed up and contributing to problems. I have reset and unplugged my home router with no apparent effect. Sally

It looks like the favicon cache Safari uses to display the little icons next to the site addresses is corrupt.
Try deleting this folder and restarting:
/Users/YourUsername/Library/Safari/Icons

one of its many really useful settings (one of the others is to activate the Debug menu in Safari) provides a checkbox 'Disable database of website icons', which is what you want. -
PDF file doesn't view properly in firefox & favicon doesn't show in Safari
I've got three issues I could use some advice with.
1. I used some iFrame code generously posted by Oldtoad that allows a pdf file in an IFrame. It works beautifully in Safari. here's an example: http://web.mac.com/phelpssculpture/Site/resumeone_page_DavidPhelps.html
but in Firefox it only opens as a dialog box asking what I want to do with the file (download, etc)
Is there any way to make this view properly in Firefox?
2. I've gone through the process to have a favicon in the address box (ico file uploaded with iTweak) and this views great with Firefox, but nothing in Safari (not sure about others) I've deleted the WebpageIcons.db file repeatedly, emptied cache, deleted all my bookmarks for the site, etc.
Anyone know how to make this work in Safari?
3. I recently updated my site (from iWeb 06) using iWeb 08 and published. A lot of search links got broken. I created a new sitemap (verified by google) and now, no matter what page a search refers to, when you click on it, only my home page opens. Did I do something wrong? It used to be that if a search pointed to a certain page, clicking that result took you directly to that page.
Any suggestions for these problems would be greatly appreciated.

One problem I had with TextWrangle was I was doing a search and replace for <head><meta and it wasn't working. What I figured out was that there was other code on the line after <head><meta which was preventing the new code from working. I did a minor adjustment on each page in iWeb to force it to republish each page. That made the <head><meta line consistent on each page, then I selected the entire line and replaced it as per your instructions. It worked great. My experience was that iTweak did not process the code properly and was very slow, but this process was great.

New favicon will not display in Firefox, but does display in Safari
I am working on a new website and uploaded the favicon.ico into the root folder (Go Daddy). The favicon appears when I use Safari, not does not appear in Firefox... I have a mac OSX version 10.5 I have cleared the history and cache too. Any thoughts?
I have this problem too. I've just loaded my favicon.ico into my root folder and it shows next to the site url in latest Safari 5.0.5, but not in Firefox 3.6.17 - neither next to the site url nor on the page name tab.
Firefox also does not show the favicon in the Tools > Page Info > Media tab, although this does list just three of the many jpgs and pngs within its folders. I've just added the favicon.ico to the folder where it does see a jpg and png, but no joy, still not displayed. See attached png.
How do I overcome this problem? Is there a plugin that resolves this issue? It would be nice to have some color in the page name tabs. Many sites, such as this one, do have their favicons displayed by Firefox... -
Annoying Safari behavior when I click show password in preferences and no favicon support
An hour ago I decided to switch to Safari 6.0.2 on Mac OSX 10.7.5 from Google Chrome and here I am with two issues.
Issue 1:
Visiting preferences I eventually went to Password Tab as shown in screenshot below. As I checked show password option all of a sudden this pop up asking for permission :"safari wants to use your confidential information stored in your keychain."
As I have about 100 websites passwords stored in my keychain, this pop up keeps coming one by one asking for permission for each and every site. And until I select any of 3 options I can not do any activity. I do not want to click around 100 times on Always Allow or any of other 2 options. This behavior is completely nuisance to me. Any suggestion on how to get rid of this? Is this a bug in Safari? Should I report it to Apple?
Issue 2:
I figured out that Safari does not support favicons too, which is, in my opinion very efficient way to manage bookmark on Bookmark bar as bookmarks are easily searchable. I visited few questions regarding Favicons and all says NO support for Safari but since they are quite a few months older now I am including it here, with hope, if any solution is known to anyone.
Any suggestion or assistance will be helpful for any of the issue.
Due to these two issues I am forced to switch back to chrome within an hour. :-(

One small suggestion: UI and formatting on this discussion.apple.com seems very old and painful now. Stackoverflow offers excellent in this area. Kindly try to renovate this site with rich and easy features.If you saved the passwords in another browser, then Safari is not automatically authorized to access them, nor is any other application. That's the whole point of the keychain. You should only get the prompt once for each password.

Safari does not show favicons after update to 6.0.3

today I updated my safari browser and after that all my favicons are delated (only the blue sphere is there) and after a whole reset of safari and restart of the system the icons are still missing . Help me please!!!

You almost assuredly reset Safari.
The favicons do not disappear as a result of installing the OS X 10.8.3 update (which includes that latest Safari.
When you click on the web site the first time, the favicons will reappear.

Safari 6.0.5 ---OS 10.7.5 no favicons
I'm in 10.7.5 running Safari 6.0.5, I noticed that most of my favicons are gone. Found a post for a fix (trash webIcons) file from Library /Safari then restart Safari. Did that now ALL the favicons are gone. Those instructions were for Safari 5.1 in Lion.
Any help as this is frustrating.

That's expected - although they should be recreated as you visit websites.
Don't know why they'd mostly vanish in the first place.
