Do we have a simple inside FCP X way to create favorite effects bins/groups yet or are we still stuck doing the Motion re-publisihg workaround?

  • How do I import my favourites folder in my effects bin to new fcp?

    Hi guys,
I'm currently running FCP on my new MacBook Pro, and have successfully imported my keyboard layout and effects from the FCP on my old mac to my new one.
However, my favourites folder in my effects bin is empty, and I can't work out how to copy the contents of my old folder (with filters with specific settings) across to the FCP on my new mac.
I'm sure there's an easy way to do it, but I can't figure it out. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Oli

As far as I can tell, your favorites are saved in the "Final Cut Pro 5 Prefs" file
This is located in: Users/your name/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data.
To try it, move that file from the old computer to the same place on the new one then open a new empty project in FCP. If your favorites are there, then the problem is solved. If not, you can trash the file mentioned above (a fresh one will be created next time you open FCP) and we have to look for another way to solve this.

  • Exporting Favorite Effects

Working on another Final Cut Pro... Any way i can save my "favorite" effects and presets to an external drive and transfer them to my new fcp?

    From: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2746464&#2746464
... this may help in the event of having to trash preferences, a hard drive crash, FCP upgrade, OS upgrade or just about any thing else that might happen:
    1. create a new project file and give it a name that you'll remember ... like "Favorites"
    2. import a clip - ANY clip. It won't have to remain online after this
    3. place the clip on the Timeline
    4. cut the clip up the same number of times as you have Favorite transitions. i.e.; if you have 12 favorite transitions, make 12 cuts. Place the transitions over the cuts
    5. place your other favorites (filters, motion favs, etc) on the clips
    6. save the project and make a backup copy to keep in a safe place
Whenever you upgrade, buy a new computer or otherwise lose your favorites, just open the "Favorites" project (clip will be offline but that doesn't matter), then double-click the clips one at a time to load them into the Viewer. From the filters tab, you can drag your favorites back into the Favorites Bin in the Browser. Do the same for transitions and motion favorites and you should be good to go.

  • Favorite effects folder not saving

    Hey all,
I'm not sure why this is, but for awhile now, I haven't been able to keep my favorites bin in the effects tab stuffed with my favorite effects. I can usually fill a bin with a couple of cross dissolves set at different lengths, as well as some other commonly used transitions/filters, and it would stay like that even between reboots. It used to be as long as I didn't have to trash preferences, that bin would stay filled. But now, for some reason, even if I just close FCP, I have to re-create all my favorite effects.
    I'm running OS 10.4.10, and FCP 6.0.3 on a Mac Pro 8-core 3.0Ghz.
I do have my normal autosaves, waveform cache, thumbnails set to my internal boot drive, where I've always kept them.
Any ideas why FCP isn't remembering them anymore?
    Thanks,

This may be a perfect time to trash those preferences and try again.

  • How to Save Favorite Effects?

Ok....searched but did not find. I FORGOT how to do this. I'm using Digital Rebellions FCS maintenance pack...and often do a Quick Fix....THEN, i ALWAYS loose my Favorite effects under Favorites Tab.
I remember there is a way to save my favorites to a file, but for the life of me don't recall how to do it or if i had done this in FCS maintenance pack--but don't see any reference to saving Favorites.
Can someone chime in and give a quick answer...if i can do this within Digital Rebellions maintenance pack or just from FCP.
    Thanks communitiy!

Favorite Effects are stored in your preference files. One of the troubleshooting tasks QuickFix performs is to trash the preferences. Before it does so, it backs up the preferences in case you wish to go back (these are the files listed as Auto Backups in Preference Manager).
So you could restore the backup to bring back your favorite effects or you could save them into a project file by dragging them from the Filters tab into the Browser.

  • Vocals-Your Favorite Effects?

I'm an experienced musician but new to recording software; who'd be willing to share their favorite effects to enhance a male solo vocal? I know how to add a little reverb but I'm wondering how to really warm up the vocal even if it is laying it on thick...

In addition to what's already been discussed - I do a lot of small project recording and found with vocals it's best to keep it simple. Assuming you've gotten a decent mic, performance, mic placement, mic technique, etc., I tend to use the Silver Reverb Default and drop it from 20% to about 15 or 10, depending on the other instrumentation. I also often use the Compression with the default setting. If I want to get a thicker sound, I'll double the track and leave one dry and one wet. I'll pan the dry one off center -+5. All this of course, is generic. I have no idea what type, genre of music you're referring to, what other instrumentation, effects, EQ, or what sound you're shooting for. Hope this helps.

  • Favorite Effects & Settings, etc.

    Hello,
I have favorite effect settings for vocals & Logic instruments but am interested in mixing things up a bit and stepping out of the box. Then it occurred to me: maybe fellow users could share if they have any "go-to" effects, settings, instruments, etc.?
At the moment I'm specifically interested in what reverb and settings people are using on Logic drums (Indie Kit is a go-to for me for the kind of music I mostly do).
BTW, I may have missed it but I did a search and couldn't find a similar topic.
    Thanks!

    Hi Side,
That must be it -- people don't want to share. We're talking about a bunch of creative (and many insecure) folks in a very competitive industry.
It makes total sense. I guess I was a bit naive in people's motives. I wasn't trying to snake anything away, I just wanted to explore other options. Thanks for the insight.
I don't suppose you have found a good thread on when to use Mastering? On a song per song basis or on the ENTIRE completed CD?
I think I'll post a question and see what I can find out.
    Take care & happy recording!

  • Favorite effects gone every time I start FCP

    This is getting frustrating...
Every time I launch FCP 5, it treats me as a first time user. It looks like my preferences are not saving when I log out and shut down. I have created a new user account and have been using that for a week, but this morning as soon as I launched the editing software it asks to choose a set-up (AV setting) and move my windows to the default location. The favorite effects are gone and all of the user and system preferences are reset to default or day-one configuration. has anyone else experinced this and did you resolve it?
    thanks

Have you tried trashing prefs and starting them again?
    Sounds like a corruption.
    Tried http://fcprescue.andersholck.com/ ?

  • Saving a speed change as a favorite effect

How do you Saving a speed change as a favorite effect? I've looked all over and cannot find a solution for this??

I'm not at my Mac right now to check this, but I seem to recall (with an old and fading memory) that it could be saved as a "Motion Favorite." Do a search in the manual for that and let us know what you find out.

  • OK, I updated to FCS2 - what happened to all my favorite effects in FCP??

Yep, my favorites folder in the browser effects tab, which I had full of my carefully crafted transitions etc., is empty. What happened to them?

Your "Favorites" were part of FCP's preference file. When you installed the later version, preferences were most likely overwritten.
To guard against this happening with future updates, hard drive crashes, preferences corruptions, etc, create an FCP project named "Favorites." Add a color matte to the Timeline and cut it up into as many pieces as you have Favorite transitions. Add all your Favorite filters to one of the clips. Save the project file.
After upgrades or any other time you're required to restore your preferences, open the "Favorites" project and drag all of the transitions and filters into the Favorites Bin to restore them.
If you have previous project files in which you used some of those Favorites, you can re-open those projects and restore them the same way - having a "Favorites" project file with all of them just makes it easier to do.

  • Saving favorite effects not working

I open a clip in the viewer that I have added effects to and try to save the effects in my favorites bin but they don't show up. Am I missing a step somewhere?

SO you open the clip in the VIEWER, click on the FILTERS tab and drag the effects into the FAVORITES folder and they won't stay?

  • Save Favorite Effects

Is there a way to save stacked effects as one "look" or "effect?"

Make it a COMPOUND CLIP. Of course, that COMPOUND CLIP will show up in your EVENTS LIBRARY to use in the project at will. (Just drag it back to any place you wish on your storyline.)
But, you may wish to "save" it for other projects.
The best way I have found to "save" things is to create a "dummy" project. Create one and call it, I don't know... "Saved Stuff."
I cut/paste my desired elements/effects and put them onto said timeline.
Later, if I need my saved element, I cut/paste BACK from the dummy project TO the project at hand. I have several things saved on my dummy project... Titles, compound clips, graphics, etc.

  • Can't Transfer Effects into New Custom Bin

I know this is basic and , believe me, I've researched for solutions and have found nothing...so this has to be a basic question. I read how you can drag your favorite or most used effects into a new custom bin. However, when I try to do that, I get the little "no way" circle over my hand. What is the trick to this? I have a project open, but I don't have a clip up...well, I've tried both ways. Help!

    Thank you!
This was Adobe's explanation...which didn't say anything about making a "custom effect". It just sayd to drag effect to custom bin.
    Create bins of favorite effects
In the Effects panel, click the New Custom Bin button , or choose New Custom Bin from the Effects panel menu. A new Custom bin appears in the Effects panel. You can rename it.
Drag effects to the Custom bin. A copy of the effect is listed in the Custom bin. You can create additional Custom bins, which are numbered.
To rename the custom bin, click the existing name to select the folder, click it again to select the name field, and type the new name.
But for some reason, It descided to work after you both deemed it so...lol! Thank you!
