  • Can i use time capsule for back up my movies and watching them with my bravia tv

can i use time capsule for back up my movies and watching them with my bravia tv.
i mean can i use this for external hard disk drive to back up my movies and watching them with tv that has a lan port or wi-fi technology.

Only if the TV is a media player.. the TC is dumb as a board router with a hard disk.. there is no DLNA which I suspect the TV requires.. you can get a player like the WDLive and it will play movie files from the TC to the TV.. remember the TC is nothing but a file store.. no servers .. no nothing.

  • What is the best way to display list of software titles for sale?

I am a small retailer that would like to display a list of approximately 15-30 software titles in the most professional way (with prices).
Can anyone recommend a layout that would serve this purpose, the ones in the template just don't seem to cut it.
If anyone wants to email me an example, I'd really appreciate it.

Probably your best bet would be to browse the websites or catalogs of other software stores to see what strikes you as professional, and use that as an inspiration to design your own.
Also, there are many websites with additional iWork templates--here's one:
    http://www.iworkcommunity.com/
    and google turns up more.
I can think of a few different ways to present a list of 15-30 software titles with prices (one column, two column, sub-categorized by maker, sub-categorized by function, sub-categorized by sale vs. regular price), but only you have the knowledge to know what system is most likely to appeal to your customers and match the overall graphic presentation of your store.

  • Added a wiki for backing up DVDs

Decided I'd share my script with the rest of the archers.  If this is too much of a gray area I wont be offended to have it removed.
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ScriptForDvdBackup

No, it's good to have wiki entries for grey areas too, thanks. (The only thing is that grey areas tend to get edited into unrecognizability... :-D)

  • Best software for fitting full length movies on to DVD?

I have Toast 6 Titanium, which i find is a great program for all my burning needs. However, recently i've been wanting to burn a few movies i have downloaded. The problem seems to be that full length movies rarely fit on to DVD. I don't really understand it as most DVD's say they can hold around 4GB of data and the movies i download are rarely over 1GB. It's just that burning them as a DVD Movie disk seems to take up an awful lot of room.
I heard there was software out there designed to compress it all down and squeeze the whole thing on to one disk and i was just wondering if that is true and which software applications out there are best for this?
    Many thanks,
    Steve.

I got Toast 10 just to check out that feature. Unfortunately 'Fit To DVD' is not under the DVD-Video burning section of Toast. Fit To DVD is only available as a function for copying pre-existing DVD's, I'm trying to burn a DVD from an AVI file i've downloaded from the net. I can't believe no one out there seems to know of a program that could help me out here.

  • Need advice on encode settings for Premiere file to be played back on DVD

Hi - hoping someone can help me with my encoding settings.  I seem to be on the right track because everything looks good until you play the video on DVD.
I use Windows Movie Maker to encode my exports to DVD.  This software does not accept MP4 but it seems to accept a variety of other files and one is WMV.  I first exported a WMV clip from Premiere at 1920x1080 (the raw video and graphics are also in that size).  Then I exported another WMV clip to 1280x720.  I just wanted to see what both of them look like on a DVD during play back.
    Here are the export settings:
Here is what the1280 WMV looks like when it's played back on my desktop computer in Windows Media player.  As you'll see everything looks very clean:
I then imported the 2 WMV clips into Windows Movie Maker, selected the 16:9 settings, and it encoded them into a finished DVD.  I then played the DVD back on my 50 inch TV in my living room.  Below you'll see a photo I took of the 1920 clip; notice how the text looks jagged:
Then the photo below of the 1280 clip looks much cleaner.
But obviously I'd like for the finished DVDs to look if possible even cleaner than the 1280 photo above - hopefully like it looks in the photo of the WMV playing back on my computer.  These videos will be distributed to different local offices.
Are my WMV settings correct?  Should I export to other than WMV? How can I improve on the 1280 DVD photo above so everything looks even cleaner (if possible)?  I have Adobe Encore - should I use that instead of Movie Maker?
    Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

A DVD is 720x480 so anything larger must be scaled down to be legal according to the DVD specification

  • Dvd software recommendations for Imac

It seems that idvd is no longer installed on the imac.  I purchased a 27 inch refurbished, went to create dvd movie from Imovie, but no software to write files to dvd.
Any recommendations from app store or elsewhere?  Seems Apple wants me playing in the cloud or something rather than using dvd.

Exactly so. The latest imacs don't even have a Superdrive!
There is no real substitute for iDVD if you want t make video DVDs:
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
    UPDATE & ADDENDUM:
But even though you can still buy iLife 11 that includes iDVD 7 from Amazon, Apple now make it difficult to install:
Poster jhb21939 posted this in another thread:
“when I attempted to load iDVD into a new iMac. A notice came up on the screen stating that the 'Authorisation Licence' had expired on 25 March this year (2012).
I contacted the Apple support team and eventually, I was told that the Licence had been withdrawn and could no longer be used.”
In other words Apple are now so adamant that we don’t use iDVD that they have tried to make it impossible to install.
In response, Old Toad posted this solution:
“You can still use it one all of your Macs.  If you get an invalid certificdate message just set your Mac's clock to sometime before early 2011 and run the installer.  After you're done reset the time back to the correct time.” He added this comment:
“It began after iDVD and iWeb were discontued and they were dropped from the Apple Store. All I can think of is the certificate was set to expire after a certain time period after the intitial iLife disc was released.
I've been able to use the installer even without setting back the date.  I just clicked on the Continue button and it would work as expected.  For some it would not continue unless the date was set back.”
The latest anorexic iMacs just announced do not even include a CD drive! Proof positive that Apple virtually prohibit the use of DVDs - although the newly announced Mac Minis do include a Superdrive.
Yet, they still include iMovie! Heaven alone knows or understands what you are supposed to do with your newly edited masterpiece - except make a low quality version for YouTube?

  • Cannot download full DVD Movie Factory version for Satellite A100 and clean Vista

    Hi there
I made a clean Windows Vista orgianal upgrade set from Modus link.
Installed and now when a want to install the DVD Movie Factory patch (DMF5.51_Patch_18in1_for TOSHIBA_147.05_0718)
there is no dvd creator software installed and also no cd creator...
it saids "no earlyer DMF found" and is stop and exit intalling this patch.
Now i cann't get the dvd creator software on my Satelite A-100 ..
In my earlyer OS XP MCE had a.. DVD creator DMF from Ulead for toshiba (oem) and sonic cd creator
    What can i try now?
    Reagds Okky

The fact is that both applications are part of recovery image and these applications are available if you have factory settings only. They cannot be downloaded and installed additionally.
If you want to habe them again you must install OS again using Toshiba recovery DVD.

  • TRYING TO BURN A DVD FOR BACK UP PROCESS HELP

I ripped a DVD to my hard drive for back up use, but I accidently clicked on data and when I put it in the DVD player it said disk error, is this because I was suppose to click on copy (i use toast 7) instead of data? please, I need help.
    thank you

    SO
if the dvd spat giving you an error, then it won't work on a dvd player (i assume it's a movie?)
in that case you should get a new blank dvd and start the copy process again, this time clicking on Copy.
    that should work
HINT: when working with copy for dvds in particular, make sure that "buffer under-run prevention is selected in the "advanced" dialog (there should be General, Advanced and then another tab which is the name of your dvd burner)
    Pete.

  • Best video Hardware/software for converting VHS DVD and others on Mac?

    Hello,
I am having problems finding some much needed details on what the best software/hardware is for converting video formats on a Mac. I should note I am using a NEW iMac 4GB memory and Leopard OS so what I use needs to be compatible. Perhaps next year I will get a Mac Pro, but for now I'm using this setup. Here's is what I need to do:
    1. Transfer old VHS tapes (home movies and such) to DVD. I need to be able to use DL DVD discs for my recordings so I don't have to switch DVDs. In other words make them just like the DVDs you play that you buy. Therefore, they also must be able to playback in home theater DVD players, not just on the computer. I would assume the best way as for encoding is to get the VHS tape in digital format on the hard drive, then use the codecs to turn them into DVDs?
    2. Once on the hard drive I also need to convert them to a format neutral playback on both the Mac and PC. What is the best, MPEG 4?
    3. The ability to do some nice editing of making bookmarks, chapters and thumbnails for the DVD menu and divisions I wish to make. In other words, if I have a home movie containing my Summer and Winter vacation, I want to insert bookmarks at points to skip to like in a movie DVD and also have a thumbnail of it just like DVD movies does.
    4. A nice MAIN menu for the DVD that will let me hit the main categories, not just chapters for the TOP level DVD menu. Such as Summer Vacation, Winter vacation.
    5. The software should be easy to use so I don't have to take a HUGE crash course requiring lots of work making the project a chore. Also, I don't want or need a professional package, just something simple that is less than $200 per software program. Not the expensive $500+ software options for movie makers.
Thank you for any tips and advice on this matter.

"Best software/hardware" depends on your exact needs & wants.
One simple way to transfer your VHS tapes to DVD is with a *DVD Recorder*. Many of these come with VHS and DVD decks already built in. Insert your VHS tape, a blank DVD, hit record and off it goes. When finished, you have a playable DVD.
To transfer your VHS tapes to DV for editing you will need a converter. The *Canopus ADVC-110* is a very nice, relatively inexpensive device that will do that job for you. (It's also possible to use most modern DV camcorders as converters, too.) You would connect your VHS deck to the Canopus box via their analog video & audio connections, then connect the Canopus box via FW to your Mac, and then when you play the VHS tape you would capture the video in iMovie or FCE.
Once your videos are captured on your Mac, you could use iMovie or *Final Cut Express* to do whatever editing you might want to do. Regardless of which one you edit with, however, it's iDVD that you would use to create your DVD menus and burn your DVDs.
So, overall, the workflow would be like this: *VHS Deck > Converter (camcorder or converter box) > Capture on Mac (iMovie or FCE) > Editing application (iMovie or FCE) > iDVD > DVD*
For playback on computers MPEG4 would be an ok choice, H.264 is probably a better choice, and then there's the matter of whether or not you want to export as a QuickTime movie and/or AVI.
iLife came with your Mac, so you already have iMovie and iDVD. How about giving them a try before you consider investing in a significantly more sophisticated application like Final Cut Express. (just my opinion)

  • Movie back to DVD

Is there anyway to turn the mivie's that are on my ipod back to dvd on my computer?

Not to view on a DVD player.

"Can I burn iTunes Music Store Videos to DVD?
You can save your iTunes Music Store movies to data DVDs for backup purposes (if you have a supported DVD burner), but these DVDs will not play in a DVD player."

  • 'Ripping' DVD movies for Windows

Is there anyone who could point me in the direction for an application that would allow me to rip dvd movies, but for Windows. All the other posts and applications I have found on the internet are for Mac, which is of no use to me.
    Any help is much appreciated!

Welcome to Discussions. Try this thread David Fernandez, "How To Copy DVDs to iPod using free software for Windows" #94, 02:32pm Nov 2, 2005 CDT. An alternative product is PQ DVD, which does it all in one app, but it does cost £35 if you want more than 8-12 mins. With the above, also be careful with sound tracks, as it is easy to get the directors cut instead of the actors, so always do a small test before doing a whole film.

  • Since updating to OS7 the video app doesn't show any titles for movies I have downloaded on my iPad. Anyone have the same problem or a fix?

Since updating to OS7 the video app doesn't show any titles for movies I have downloaded on my iPad. Anyone have the same problem or a fix?

Many users have solved the problem by syncing several times; and if that doesn't work, perform a simple restore. Your titles will come back.

  • We rented a movie from Apple TV, had to pause it, accidentally pressed the search button on remote, could not get back into the movie, apple said 'go to settings, downloads, look for the movie', yeah, right, there is no 'downloads' selection under setting

wow, this is taking forever to communicate with anyone, I just want my $4.99 back from the movie rental I paid for. I paid for a rental, we were watching it, had to pause it, accidentally hit 'menu' on the apple remote, tried to get back into the movie, wouldn't let us, apple said ' go to settings, click downloads, select the rented movie from there',( not really a quote, but, close enough).  So, we went to 'Settings' on main menu, but, there is no 'downloads' icon....I guess it is true:  Do Not Rent from Apple TV'.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You are looking at outdated instructions, you can find the "check the downloads" option under settings > iTunes Store. You may also wish to look on the movies > rentals.

  • HT5287 If DVD Movies, Audio CD's and even burning CD and DVD's are not supported, what is the point of DVD & CD Sharing then? Wouldn't it just be better to remote in or use a thumb drive if it's only able to be used for data transfer?

Or am I missing the bigger picture?

As long as you have a Superdrive or an external burner/drive, burning, watching, installing, etc. from CD or DVD will work just fine. And so will sharing.
