Favourite online game/games?

Since I'm still not sold on PS4/Xbox One in terms of games and no longer have my gaming rig. I still play my PS3 for online gaming. I recently went through my library of games.
I got back into the following games. And my online experience with Infinity 1. I get approx 38 down, 8up, 16-18 ping average -
Red dead redemption multiplayer - Insanely fun open world game - Especially the undead nightmare horde mode. And co-op. Lag free, little to no problems at all. Fast and responsive, played about 2 hours.
Uncharted 2 and 3 multiplayer - Uncharted 2 is still a very balanced and flowing online experience. It does have a low player count nowadays but still fun when you find a game. Co-op arena and adventure is as addictive as I remember it being. Despite the low player count. I played about 3 hours.
Uncharted 3 is rather unbalanced with the boosters, kickbacks. But the customisation of load outs, characters and the like is nice and it's quite faced paced. The more story integrated co-op missions are really fun too. I think the matchmaking is a bit bad in this though. As it tends to match me up more often than not with global players in competitive TDM, FFA resulting in lag compensation. Sometimes I'm on the good side of it but mostly not. *Infinity too good to be on the good side all the time eh? Lol.
Played about 2 and half hours - 3.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare multiplayer - My goodness it runs like smooth silk. Amazingly fast paced flowing TDM battles, FFA is a pure doddle and feels so balanced I haven't played this in 5 years. Came back and got a 30-1 FFA game first match. TDM going 47-4 first match. The game feels so good in comparison to "newer" cod games. I was picked as host through my 3 hour session. Amazing!
Destiny multiplayer (Online only duh!) - Surprisingly a decent shooter from Activision as they tend to rely too much on Call of Duty and now back with guitar hero...again. But Destiny does feel pretty unique in a way, a bit repetitive on story mode but certainly fun with friends and randoms who join your fireteam. It shines in crucible. Its really fun, if a little unbalanced to a degree. As some players with DLC weapons have a bit advantage. And that's the downside the DLC...blimey! Half the game's dlc is/was already a part of the game originally and they decided to cut the game in half and sell a £35 season pass good one!
Crucible on PS3 is a weird one. I can be running a full green bar on this and have some real laggy moments. I think this is the game's poor netcode/matchmaking as it matches me up with more global players like uncharted 3.
Played for 2 hours.
Resident Evil 5 Co-op (Story, Versus DLC)
The story is the typical resident evil story I guess. It is the third person shooter, action game with nasty enemies and monsters trying to kill you. Playing this on co-op is fantastic. I had people joining me randomly from different countries with little to no lag. And no issue at all occurred. I joined others that were from Japan, USA and even Brazil and I experienced a smooth gameplay session without lag and it was fun. Despite the fact I am kind of poo at playing the game. Haha.
I played about 3-4 hours.
The versus DLC was a bit hit and miss then again this DLC has always had some form of bad hosting, netcode issues. From the 8-10 games I played when not host it was pretty lag free. With only one host who was bad. Everyone was teleporting around lmao. When I hosted it ran smoothly. I played 5 or so games. Really fun if a little random with hosts. Good stuff though.
Played about an hour.
These are the games I've been playing frequently over the past 2 weeks - And would be interested in what other posters/mods play. It doesn't matter what console you play. I'm just curious.
Also all these games are p2p but funnily enough had very little bad experience with them. Usually it can be bad. Maybe I've been lucky.
Also if anyone is interested. I set up my ps3 with a static IP and DMZ set up via cat7 cable and a HH5A with an ECI modem. Yes the cat7 is overkill but it was cheap. Lol.
Hopefully some folk will find this thread interesting as I find gaming on infinity fantastic personally.

Hey Carl!
At least you attempt and that's all that matters with gaming especially online as I find many folk do take it a bit too seriously because they're "owning noobs" lol.
I think GTA V on PC will be worth the price once it goes down a bit. I'm planning on a gaming rig that can take advantage of 4K and all the bells and whistles once I've got everything I need. I love building PCs lol.
Funnily enough I never tried an MMORPG I do understand the basic fundamentals of it with fetch quests and the like I don't know if it'd be my thing. I know there is PvP arenas and might go into it for that and the character classes. I'm not sure though. WoW never caught my attention even in its infancy.
BioShock is an amazingly crafted FPS. I love the sombre, neglected and feel of history behind the game you could feel it which was so great. On the case about BioShock the sequel was not really needed it lacked so much "BioShock 2"and the poorly implemented multiplayer. Its not worthy of it being classed in the same universe its a fine example of a "cash cow" installment in the trilogy.
I did like BioShock Infinite it felt different and an evolution in the series. It did lack something. Perhaps the robotic residents of the world or slightly confusing plot but it was head and shoulders above BioShock 2. I liked the time period and the showcase of racism at the time.
I'm not saying I'm racist though just the developers tackling strong subjects and presenting them in a way where it catches your attention. They had some interesting ways to showcase the struggle on those times and the vastly split groups of people on that era in the early 20th century.
Yes I agree a lot of online worlds do lack the more dynamic elements. Even the simple kill enemies and they're gone for good would add something to the world they're presenting us.
Thanks Carl!
Hey Neil!
Good to see your interest on my post. I haven't personally played FIFA so I cannot comment that myself but seeing my friends play it it does seem to have an immersive football experience. I think I don't have an interest as I don't watch football lol yeah that could be it.
Destiny certainly had a lot to live up to and fell quite short of what they showed us at E3 and some gamimg expos. With a 500 million dollar budget you'd think it'd have more variety right? Lol.
I certainly balme Activision to a degree. Yes they published it but they have a hand in it. Look at call of duty haha.
And speaking of which. I also attempted to play advanced warfare after the campaign. The campaign was quite fun - Maybe for Spacey or the fact Troy Baker is in everything lol. I really thought it was fun with all the exo abilities. But multiplayer felt detached for some odd reason to me. It didn't feel smooth to me nor did the exo abilities feel good. I was playing "classic" a lot more when it was available and that didn't wet the Call of Duty 4 appetite.
Many folk do say "We need to let go of call of duty 4 and move on..." That statement is awful. Call of Duty 4 to this day runs, plays and all around feels better than any other in the series. The maps were better, the guns were balanced, the perks were balanced well except juggernaut but that's nothing to everything the perceeded call of duty 4. Shame people accept mediocrity.
Sorry for ranting a bit there haha.
Good to see another mod who is gamer @RobbieMac
I have had an interest in The Witcher 3 myself. Even though I'm a "last gen" player currently lol. I had played the previous 2 games which were amazing worlds it was quite an experience I have to admit.
I totally forgot about Skyrim Elder of Scrolls Online. It'll be an interesting one for PS4 in terms of connectivity and how it runs as I know on PC it had some issues I think in the first month. Unless I'm wrong maybe I'm thinking of something else. I feel unconfident with that statement. Correct me if I'm wrong lol.
I think the only game that will sell the PS4 to me is uncharted 4 but it looks so drab and depressing compared to the previous 3 games lol it has a "The last of us" feel to it. Hmmmm very unsure.
Lovely to talk to fellow gamers on here.
Mark.

  • AppleScript (or Automator?): How to search through online сhеss games?

    Hello.
I would like to search for specific online сhеss games. Each game has a single adress. We are talking about millions of games. Obviously, it's far too long to index all the games. So I will set a limit and use the script at night. Conditions should be something like this:
    For adress example.com/game=NumberA to example.com/game=NumberB
Search every web page containing SpecificWord
Store wanted web adresses somewhere (so I could see the games by myself during the day)
As you can see, I know nothing about Applescript and I don't know how to start, nor how the script can pick up adresses. I think it's possible and not difficult to code, just time consuming for the program to search through thousands of games.
Should I use AppleScript or Automator? Should the script open Safari (or Firefox if possible) or can it search without any browser? Is it possible to simultaneously search through multiple pages/adresses? Maybe I could write several scripts for different ranges of games? If so, how many pages can I open at once? For instance I could disable images in Firefox to load quicker. How much time does it need to search for one game? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 seconds?
Any easy tutorials, examples of similar codes, advices, hints or tips are appreciated.

Thanks for answering. Sorry that I was so unclear. My main problem was how to get urls and games id as variables. But then I thought there already should be programs doing web crawling. I have found Scrapy which use Python language.
(Maybe I should edit my question, add Scrapy and Python as tags instead of applescript and automator. Is it possible?)
I have Mac OS 10.6.8, Python 2.6.1. Scrapy needs at least Python 2.7 so I have downloaded the last version of Python (3.3).  I think I can handle the programming in Scrapy thanks to their tutorial. The most difficult part should be... how to install Scrapy. Don't laugh at me.
I have entered "sudo easy_install Scrapy" in the terminal. But the terminal still uses Python 2.6.1. Python 3.3 is installed but I don't know how to clean update Python. If anyone knows, feel free...
When I write scrapy in the terminal, here is what I get:
    Traceback (most recent call last):
      File "/usr/local/bin/scrapy", line 4, in <module>
        import pkg_resources
      File "/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/Extras/lib/python/pkg _resources.py", line 2556, in <module>

raise DistributionNotFound(req)  # XXX put more info here
    pkg_resources.DistributionNotFound: lxml
It seems Scrapy also needs something called lxml. Right now I am trying to make Python 3.3 the default python version. Is there a web crawler GUI which already includes Python, Scrapy, lxml?
By default I also have Python 2.4 and 2.5. Does the system need them? I prefer not to delete system files but together all Python versions weigh 500 MB.
In regard to the real example URL: let's say instantchess.com. Here's a game URL: http://www.instantchess.com/?EXP=1&GPI=84094532
84094532 is the game id. Let's say I want to search every Reti openings (thus the page must contain the word "Reti") from id 84000000 to 85000000 and store games id in my computer. If I have understood correctly, I need to search through the source code of the pages.
Feel free to add any remarks, suggestions, ideas.

  • Looking to get a data plan for the sole purpose of playing online video games

    Hi everyone,
I live in the mountains of Pine Valley, CA and the seclusion is becoming intolerable.  I'm looking to get a data plan with Verizon to play online video games, namely Diablo 3 or failing that due to latency, then Civilization 5.  Can anyone give me pointers on if this would work and what plan I could get?  Currently, I have a plan with Boost Mobile which uses Sprint cell phone towers.  I tested my internet connection with speedtest.net and received a ping as low as 140 and as high as 1000, but I'm hoping the 1000 is just due to reception issues that can be fixed with a better antenna.    The 140 ping is a little high too but I'm hoping this will be better on the Verizon network since I think their cellphone towers are closer.  The closest landmark to me is the Golden Acorn Casino at 1800 Golden Acorn Way  Campo, CA 91906.  If anyone could tell me the distance from Verizon's cell tower to the casino and Sprint's and could estimate a ping value based on that, I would really appreciate it.
I like Verizon's data plan for 10gb but I'm confused on device connectivity.  Is this the data plan plus whatever router device I hook it up to? I would also need some sort of antenna and a router, wireless or wired.  Can anyone give me pointers on how to find these?  An estimation on Ping and bandwith speed and also on peak hours in my area would be nice too.  Thanks to anyone that can help me with this!  Oh, and while I don't think my area has coverage for 4g, though I'm pretty sure there is 3g, would I possibly get 4g if I had a strong enough antenna?

Homefusion comes with antenna that is mounted OUTSIDE of your dwelling. That why they send someone out to install it. It also comes with the router. You're thinking of Share Everything data only plans. Where you pay $20 for the mi-fi and then pay extra on the data pending how much you want.  Share Everything with a mi-fi and 10 GB would be $80 a month when you can get Homefusion for $60 for the same 10 GB. An considering the antenna is more power and outside you're a lot more likely to get reception with Homefusion. In either case it should be noted you'll need to pass a credit check and sign a two year contract.

  • How to play online ESL games simultaneously?

Hello, I teach English to Spanish-speaking children  living in an orphanage. I use screen share with the students. How can we play online ESL games simultaneously? Let's say that I click on the + to screen share and go to any online ESL game. The students can see my screen where I am displaying ,for example, a word search puzzle with English vocabulary words. Is there an app or tool, so that they can click on the letters from their end when they find the word(s)?  I can click on the words in the puzzle on my end. Or let's say I find an multiple choice game/exercise where it asks to click on the right answer. When I screen share, I can click on the answer, but my students cannot? What do you suggest so that we can do online ESL games and exercises together and play simulataneously from either of our remote locations? I would appreciate your help, so that the children can have a fun time learning.

  • Create a cross platform online Card Game

How would I go about creating a cross platform online card game. An example of such an application is one I found where people can play the "Magic the Gathering" card game online and I was wondering how to go about creating a graphic interface where players could upload the images of cards and move them freely around the screen. There would not need to be any rules for the game. It would only need to be able to shuffle a deck and count how many cards are left in the deck and the discard pile.

I agree just installing the application would be the best option however one of the requirements of this is that it can run from the CD as we are going to be distributing some promotional material in the form of a flash application and would like to have run on either windows or mac without needing to require the users to have to choose the version.

  • Unable to play online multiplayer games!?

Whenever I go to play Town of Salem (online multiplayer game) or even any other gaming websites, it takes me to a page stating that I need to update my Flash Player to a version 11.9? or higher even though (triple checking regularly) my flash player is on version 17.1.1. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my flash player 4 times now and it still doesn't work and my Firefox is up to date too. Not too sure whether it is a problem on my side or just the flash player doesn't like playing games on my laptop anymore.
If it helps, I have another laptop (different brand) that has updated flash player and it plays games really smoothly.

    Manufacturer: Acer
    Model: Aspire 5253G
    Processor: AMD E-350
                    Processor 1.60 GHz
Installed memory RAM:  4.00GB (3.73 GB usable)
    System Typer: 64-bit Operating System
    Flash Player Version: 17.0.0.169
    Your OS: Windows 7 (64bit)
Your Browser: Mozilla Firefox, 37.0.2 (latest update)
My sister has also told me she had a very similar problem only that it was facebook games that weren't working. She fixed the problem by switching some option "on" that was turned off by someone else.

    iMac 10.1, OS X 10.7.5
4 GB RAM (2 of 4 slots used)
201 GB free on 999.35 GB HD
The iMac gets slower the longer I use the Internet - to the point that it takes several seconds for each typed character to appear.  This is very noticeable with the online browser game Forge of Empires.  But, it happens even if not logged on to that game.
Turning the iMac off and restarting it brings it back to what seems like full speed for an hour or so.  Then, it starts to noticeably slow down again.

1st thing : from my point of view upgrade your mac os to latest version.
(their is mac os x mavericks from apple its free for upgrade so download it and install it.)
2nd thing : then upgrade your all browser plugins to latest version.
3rd thing : and use ccleaner to keep clean your mac from junk data or other unuseable data that are created.
4th thing : verify and repair your disk permissions with the use of disk utility or ccleaner
i am sure your computer recover speed.

If i have a mac and i wish to play an online computer game (Call of Duty) against a windows user, will it be compatible?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
the compatibility of playing Mac Games online against Windows user depends on the manufacturer of these games.
If they were wise enough to think about this, when they programmed the game.
Have a look at the manufacturer sites for compatibility.

In my opinion, anyone wanting to get into game network programming should start here:

it may not apply fully to java network programming, but this faq might bring some very important key concepts to your attention that you had no clue existed.

  • RAM usage by Adobe Flash Player spikes when playing online flash games with 3D graphics

Hi. I have recently noticed a spike in RAM usage by my flash player plug-in whenever I play online flash games that use a 3D graphics engine (for example, Farmville 2 and Chefville by Zynga). Apart from the numerous times I receive an error message that the plug-in has failed, my RAM usage goes above 70% from the regular 40% with the plug-in consuming more than 1Gb. I have experienced the problem with the updated version of Adobe Flash Player on the newest releases of Firefox, Chrome and RockMelt. This spike in usage usually leads to a crash of my GPU (ATI Mobility Rabeon 4650 - 2Gb) My specs are as follows:
    OS - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    Processor - Core i5
    Speed - 2.27 GHz
    RAM - 4.00Gb (3.86 Gb usable)
    HDD - 500 Gb (465 Gb usable)
I should also note that the required specifications for the latest version of Flash Player (11.7.700.202) requires processing speeds of 2.33Ghz. Could that be the issue? I am still to attempt downgrading of my Flash version to see if that could help reduce the RAM usage. Are there any other suggestions out there?

Hmmm... Win 7 will run faster than Mavericks with 8Gb. Even my Vm of 7 runs faster once I get it past all the startup processes.
It may or may not be a connectivity problen since Windows uses a different protocol, even though it's on the same hardware. Usually though, what affects OS X will affect BootCamp too.
    What browser?

I'm playing an online flashplayer game and using taskmanager I can see my ram usage creeping up over time, eventually it reaches nearly max capacity and the game starts to mis-display, lag and generally grind to a halt.
If I restart my browser my ram usage goes back to usual and the usage creep begins again.
I'm not sure if it's a quirk of the game or a shortcoming with my system.
I'm running windows xp 32 bit with explorer 8 on a biostar G31-M7-TE motherboard, with an intel Q8200 quad processor and 2Gb of ram, (another 2Gb is in the post to take it to max 4Gb)
I've also fitted a evga nvidia GTX660 pci-express GPU which has 2Gb of dedicated graphics ram.
my system at idle is using 400mb of ram, logged into the game 900mb of ram, at the point of requiring a restart it's reached 1.8Gb...  :O

Check if your Chrome is up-to-date(Tools->About Google Chrome), If not, update it and try downloading the game and check.
If you still face the same issue, uninstall and re-install Google Chrome and check.
Alternatively, you can try downlaoding the same using a different broswer.

  • Flash issue's with online multiplayer game's

I play alot of online multiplayer game's, i spend thousand's of dollars a year in playing, I update my computer everytime something new come's out. This is the first time i found a game flash based i wasn't to impressed with, Game i am talking about is wartune.com. when u aint around alot of people its fine, minute u get around alot of people it slows down. i have tried diffrent brower's and also diffrent settings as recommended on ur site. What i would like to see is flash be more friendly to less lag cause by flash, or even frames per second option available so a user can see what is going on. When flash aint lagged down it work's great, but need some more settings to boost the performance of it, Hardware acceleration almost does minnunim to nothing, i have 32 gigs of ram, duel processor's, duel video card's.  my system is very welll mainted as i don't do much but gaming on it. Give us some options to improve the respones time with flash, or even let use use are video cards more effecicantly with flash, Also just a not some complain the high useage of memory during online gaming have to refresh webpage alot to speed back up, Speaking to gaming sites doesnt seem to help, Only way i truely believe they will change is when they have to change, So im coming to u as a customer of alot of flash stuff, force them to do something, do ur 12.0 flash update with some added fetures for use gamers, give us a option to speed up are flash, I will state that theres other programs out there that when ran with flash it make's it go super smooth, but ur not allowed to run second programs during gaming, but if it smooths it out tremdously maybe that be something for u to look into? Any question's feel free to msg me back.

You can buy top PC but this will not fix issues that made game developer. Yes, game developer. Not Flash Player developer. First of all you need to ping your game server.
On PC in Windows you need to run in cmd this string: ping wartune.com but this is may not show real IP of game servers. I can't enter to wartune because there is error 404 - page don't found. So you need to know their servers IP and try to ping them. All ping that shows more 50ms will cause a lags. Ping it's timeframe for delivery data  between your PC internet and wartune sever.
PS. my ping showed 192ms. So if game have the same server as hosted web site - I must see lags due big ping.
