In OS X.7. it is not possible to fax with the old fax modem, I bought some years ago.
Do you know a USB - fax modem for my MacBook Pro?

  • Which external fax modem is compatible with deskjet 3050 All-In-One j611 series

I would like to use my HP DESKJET 3050 All-In-One j611 series printer to send and receive faxes. Which external fax modem do you recommend?

    Hi 1937,
The Deskjet 3050 j611 printer doesn't support faxing. If you need a printer with fax capabilities check out the following link below.

  • When I try to print, a screen appears asking me to choose a fax modem or server. How can I get rid of this?

Mozilla Firefox is my default browser. I can print if I use Internet Explorer but not when I use Mozilla Firefox. All I get is this screen that says, "Choose a fax modem or server." There's no way to shut it off. Please help because I can't print now.

When you initiate Print in Firefox, is your printer selected in the Printer > Name box? <br />

  • Can't get usb fax modem to work

I have one of those small white apple phone/fax usb connectors, and I am trying to send a fax of a word doc but I can't get the process to work.
It reports that there is no dial tone yet it is connected correctly from the computer to my phone line.
I recall being able to do this a couple of years ago, but now I can't figure it out.
Could there be a compatibility problem with the OS?
I used it before with Tiger and now I am on Snow Leopard.
Is there some setup that I need to do before using it?
When I plug it in, it reports that there is a new network interface detected called external modem and it needs to be set up in network preferences.
In the setup, it asks for a phone number an account name and a password, but which account is it referring to? My computer, my ISP, my network router?
It then disconnects and reports that there is no dial tone and to try connecting the phone line again, but it is connected and is working.
    Thanks for any advice

    Thanks.
It does appear correctly, and everything seems ok, but it doesn't work.
I've been reading around, and apparently the apple usb fax modem doesn't work with digital phone lines.
The last time I used it, in 2007-08, we had an analogue phone line but now we have a digital line as part of the Virgin media phone, cable and broadband service.
Unless someone has had positive results getting it to connect to a digital phone line, I have to conclude, sadly, that it is now obsolete hardware.
I can't even find a comparable item on the apple store website anymore, so they must know that it doesn't work with digital phone lines and stopped selling it.

  • Using built in Fax modem to fax out

I'm going start this by saying... Only if Macos X had a proper Chooser like function like classic Mac OS, and that the new Macos X help system is not as good as Apple Guide of Classic (disappointing seeing X was the meant to be the be all end all of all operating systems)...
But anyways, seeing that I have an iMac at work that only boots up in X I have been struggling to get the send/receive faxs from the computer.
I have diagramed the partial setup I have and wish to use the built in Modem that's inside the iMac Flat 17" G4 version to send receive Faxes.
    Here is the scenario.
    - I have a setup consisting of iMac G4 with X.10
    - I have a managed to see outside world via ADSL hookup
    - The ADSL line and the Fax line are two different numbers
    - Currently Only the Fax is connected directly to the Fax point, I need to also link up the Mac to the same point. Is there a splitter for such a thing?
    - I have set up the Fax so I can actually print from the Mac to it
    - I have set up the Fax so I can only send/receive faxes from/to the cannon
    - I have set up the printer/fax Preferences so to receieve fax that are based on the Fax point # and the the check box is check for allow to receieve faxes
    - I have FAXstf installed on my machine, does it conflict with the new System Faxing properties found in X.10?
    - I followed the directions presented to me from the Help docos, and the system always told me, 'Fax will be transmitted after disconnecting from Network', and it never did anything.
What are the correct procedures to follow in order to get this thing to work? Images would be nice... Reading docos isn't my thing, they remind me of the online help which MS has in place for all their applications... Web Docs is not as intuitive as guiding a user through the process like Apple Guide used to do. Just a suggestion to the Apple developers out there;/
    The diagram setup is:
    <pre>
DATA POINT <------------------> ADSL MODEM <--------> TELEPHONE POINT #1
    ^
    |
    |
    |
    v
IMAC <------------------> USB HUB <--------> CANAN 850MP MULTI FUNCTIONAL PRINTER
    ^
    |
    v ^
    INTERNAL |
    MODEM |
    ^ |
    | |
    v v
    <-------------------------------------> FAX POINT #2
    </pre>
hope the above isn't hard to understand.
    Cheers

I need the dedicated fax line due to the security system using the phone line, and that the fax should be used for faxing and telephones used for talking, unlike the previous guys comments... POTS means nothing!... People still fax you know, just like they still print... and gee the printer has been around for a little while longer than fax
But anyways... I tried to do the Fax PDF, and thats where it gets stuck... it tries to ring out but no can do. I tried this using a direct link from Mac to Fax point. Seeing that it didn't work I then hooked back the MFM to the fax point in order for the company to receive/send faxes at least from the machine.
The only reason as to my enquiry in the discussion forum is to see if I can set it up so both the MFM (fax) and the imac can send/receieve faxes at the same time or seperately. It would be beneficial to receive and send from the imac, as I'm sure we all know that printing out documents can get lost, especially when you just have one copy, and so this would at least keep an electronic copy of the item. However, during the evenings, it would be ok to have the fax machine recieves faxes or have the fax machine send faxes during the times when the computer can't. The imac is an administrative computer and at times the engineering guys need someting quick, but whats to say that the administration lady can't do it at that point in time... then they need to fax it.
The point is, is there a device which I can hook up so that the 56k fax/modem device in the imac and the MFM (fx) can go through the same point?
    thanks

  • Want a Help page on installing Fax Modem and how to use it.

I have bought the Apple USB fax Modem.
But I have been unable to find instructions on:
    1) installing the modem,
    2) setting up the modem
    3) configuration of software that drives the modem, cover sheets etc.
    4) If I need to deactivate my Airport before using it
    5) How to connect my cell by Bluetooth or tether to send/receive Faxes
Now I know that you use the print to PDF Fax,
But I have sent several faxes and never found a prompt that says they made it or failed.
Does anyone know where I can find this info??
    Thanks
    Dunc
    I have a MBP 2.4, 4 gigs

    1) installing the modem,
    Plug it in
    2) setting up the modem
If you want to use it for connecting to dial-up you would do this in Network Preferences, where you would enter the number, username and password, but I guess this isn't what you want to do as you have Airport.
    3) configuration of software that drives the modem, cover sheets etc.
To send a fax, choose 'Fax PDF' from the Print dialog. You set up the telephone number and whether you want a cover sheet there.
    4) If I need to deactivate my Airport before using it
    Not to send a fax
    5) How to connect my cell by Bluetooth or tether to send/receive Faxes
I'll have to pass on that, I don't have a clever mobile phone. You might like to post it again as a separate question.
But I have sent several faxes and never found a prompt that says they made it or failed.
You don't get any progress report faxing this way.
If you are going to do a lot of faxing you might like to look at PageSender which offers many more features.

  • Solution sought: fax from apps in OX 10.7, via fax modem and Comcast cable svc.

recently relocated from the rural mountains into the city...  previous fax communications achieved via dedicated phone line and hp 3330mfp... now confronted with Comcast cable and the bundled services... previous fax services are now antiquated and had to be retired... intend to use apps "print to fax" capability and a 3rd party fax modem, interfacing with a Comcast high speed modem...  has anyone experienced or worked their way through such an issue, or is there an alternate solution to resolve my problem???  many thanks for your attention to my question...

Almost everyone I know who asks for a fax, is perfectly happy to get a 200 dpi black+white scan in TIF format attached to an email.

  • Apple fax modem significantly increases kernel_task load

I discovered that plugging apple's external fax modem into a USB port causes the kernal_task CPU load to increase from ~0.3% to 7.9%. With the modem plugged in, the kernal_task load stays pegged at 7.9 to 8.1 percent.
This was with the modem plugged into one of the USB ports of my Cinema display. My printer is plugged into the other Cinema USB port.
Moving the modem to one of the ports on the front panel of the MacPro reduced the kernal_task load to about ~4.8%.
I noticed that having the modem plugged in fires up a process named AppleModemOnHold. This process uses a negligible amount of CPU time, but apparently, it's slamming a system service ... or the modem itself is slamming a system service ... way too often. Not sure if this is a configuration problem, a feature of dubious utility (FODU) or a design flaw.
8% is a pretty serious chunk of resources to sac for a device I don't use very often ... sure, I can just unplug it ... but I really ought to have the convenience of having it just be there when I want it without it needing so much attention by the system.
    Comments?

    Follow up:
For the 1st time in a month, I actually sent (successfully) a fax. After sending the fax, the kernel_task CPU load is now 0.3% (did not return to 7.9%).
Examination of prior faxes shows my last fax attempt (a few weeks ago) failed.
Could the failed fax have left the fax driver in a state of limbo that persists through power cycles (and thereby caused the kernel loading I have been seeing) ?

  • Will Apple market a 64bit Fax Modem?

I was about to order a MacBook Pro Crystalwell ... but, it occurred to me to check Fax Modem capability ... it has none!  Also, I've come to find out it won't work with most modems as they employ 32bit and Mountain Lion is 64bit architechture.  I don't use my machines for business ... but I do have responsibility for my 93 year old mother's affairs as her power of attorny ... and the State Agency that handles Medicaid and her Nursing Home still use ancient fax technology ... and there it nothing I can do about it.  They will not PDF ... they use fax machines and that's the end of it. And they require signatures on the fax pages.
I don't want to buy an all in one printer/scanner/fax ... I already have all the working peripherals I need ... I just want a 64bit fax modem that will work with a MacBook Pro.  I can't order the MacBook until I know for certain  I'll be able to send faxes out .. recieving them would be great ... but, I've been told Apple has no fax/telephony applications anymore.
    Help.

I recommend the US Robotics modem, but other brands of full controller USB modems will work too.

The older Apple USB modems were half hardware and half software and are no longer supported, so don't buy one of them.

  • Internal Fax Modem on Beige

My Beige didn't come with an on-board/internal fax modem, but has a slot for one above the A/V personality card. Anyone know if an Apple OEM 56K modem can still be had somewhere and, if so, can it be easily installed.
I'd like to get my US Robotics X2 modem off my desktop (clutter issues) and out of that serial port. I can't get it to work with OS 10.3.9 anyway.

    Carl,
Faxing in Panther should be doable with your external serial port modem. So you might consider keeping it, if you can get it working. I have a BestData 56K serial port modem that I use for dial-up internet. When not connected to the internet I can send and receive faxes under 10.3.9, thanks to this tip on the Other World Computing, XPostFacto HOW-TO forum:
    http://forum.macsales.com/viewtopic.php?t=1767
Fax to/from Panther using External Modem
I was very surprised that it would work, I thought that all serial devices, printers and modems, would no longer have driver support under OS X, like the floppy drive. If you use Ethernet for the internet you can auto e-mail received faxes, I'm not sure if that's magic or if you have to enable PostFix manually or with PostFix Enabler.
You might get some strange behavior if you enable fax receiving and auto dial-up to connect to the internet, you can't have the modem physically do both, and the drivers competing for the modem connection can lock things up. If you don't plan to use the modem for internet, then this isn't an issue for you. I don't enable receiving all the time, only when I really need to get a fax at home, I can enable it as needed.
I have just recently installed 10.4.6 and have set up my dial-up account to connect to the internet, but haven't tried to configure the fax yet. I hope that the Panther method will still work.

  • No FAX modems were found

I have a 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 with an internal modem on which I installed Leopard. Now I can FAX and get the message 'No FAX modems founds'. I have used this machine to FAX with 10.4.11 without any problem. I checked my configuration and the modem shows up, see below. I dumped the fax preferences, no difference. I find nothing about this specific message in the discussions, anyone have any suggestions??
    Modem Model: MicroDash
    Interface Type: USB
    Modulation: V.92

    Firmware Version: APPLE VERSION 2.6.7
    Driver: InternalUSBModem.kext (v2.6.7)

Have you added the FaxPrinter in the Print & Fax Preferences? I believe Tiger would create the fax printer automatically when you initiated a fax job; Leopard does not seem to do this.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sharing Fax modem over network

We have the apple fax modem hooked up to our server, used to send and receive faxes. This is "shared" under system preferences. On the local LAN, all the other Mac's see this and can add the fax modem. We also have a site-site VPN and the Mac's on the other side do not automatically "see" the fax modem. I can put in the IP address and it will find it, but there is no Fax driver , or Apple modem driver to select. How do we add the Fax modem, so that we can send faxes?

  • E90 Missing (fax) modem and data calls

    Hi all
I read in a couple of other threads that there is no (fax) modem in the E90. Is this why I cannot get datacalls to work? I can quite happily get data calls to work on a 9110, 9110i, 9300i, but not on an E90, all with the same sim and details.
This seems a little strange, because there is a section for setting up datacalls to enter all the deatils for the call. I asked a question earlier if anyone has got data calls to work, but got no responses.

  • Sendin fax using nokia 9210i fax modem via laptop

Please can someone explian to me how to send fax using my nokia 9210i fax modem. I can use this fax modem to dial up a network and connect to the internet but when i try to send a fax with it using windows it dials the number but it diplays data call and the fax does not go it keeps on showing data call in progress, please how can i make i turn it into fax call, maybe i need a coomand but i dont know or is nokia 9210i cannot do this
    Thanks for your help.
    Jon

Do you have an IBM / Lenovo Laptop?
I do and I checked the event logs and noticed failure 680 which indicated that no dial tone could be obtained (cable not plugged it) or similar symptom.
I used to receive the error "one touch access failed to establish a network connection" using the Nokia PC Suite. I checked under start | settings | network connections and selected properties on the valid dial-up device. Then I noticed that the device was using the Internal Thinkpad modem instead of the Nokia. This explained the error 680 as the Thinkpad modem was not cabled to the phone line. After changing the connect using device from thinkpad to Nokia all worked well.
Let me know if this helps.
