Fax using cell phone instead of landline

I've been all over the web trying to find out if this can be done. I did find a KBase doc that supports how to set up a bluetooth modem for faxing. But I could not get that to work. Anyone know how to set up a cell phone as a modem and use for sending faxes? I no longer have a land line and can't figure out why one wouldn't be able to use the cell for the analog line.
If anyone knows ANYTHING, please let me know. (3rd party software, tricks for Blackberry Pearl, T-Mobile restrictions, setting up to use the phone via USB and not bluetooth, etc)
Thank you so much! I'm sick of paying $20 a month for efax.com when I only need to send 1 or 2 pages per month.

    Hi shea31,
Unfortunately, this printer doesn't have a fax function. You can also check the printer's product specifications.

  • X230 bluetooth does not work - unable to use cell phone as personal hotspot

I am trying to use the bluetooth in my X230 to pair my laptop with my cell phone. I want to be able to use my cell phone as a personal hotspot, in case I am in an area with no secure wi-fi. I would have thought that this would be standard feature in a laptop that is touted as a business device, but apparently this is not the case.
I installed both the bluetooth driver and the latest system update, as suggested by Sarbin...
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073834
    and
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS012808
... but it is still not working for me. I am now able to connect my cell phone to my X230, but instead of enabling me to access the internet via bluetooth, a dialogue box appears enabling me to play songs that are on my cell phone using the laptop speakers.
I am disappointed that the bluetooth driver did not come pre-installed on the x230, and I am disappointed that I am not able to use my cell phone as a personal hotspot for my x230.

There is a key step missing from the prior post, but is shown on the link.
After the steps described in the prior post (e.g., disabling all services on the Bluetooth device except NAP), go to <Control Panel<, <Devices and Printers>, right click on the Bluetooth device (e.g., iPhone) that you want to connect to for your internet hotspot access point, and then click on <Connect Using> and then <Access Point>.
Using this method, the Lenovo's Access Connections program does NOT control this internet connection, thus the icon in the system tray will show NO connection in the Lenovo wireless access icon (even though the computer is connected via the Bluetooth connection to the iPhone).
Disconnecting requires going back into Control Panel and disconnecting from the Access Point.
Kinda clunky in my opinion, but I could never get a connection to the internet via a Bluetooth/iPhone Hotspot combination using the Lenovo Access Connections software despite claims in that software's help section saying that such a connection was possible.  (The Lenovo Access Connections Help section even gives instructions to use tabs that don't exist in the software.)

  • Using cell phone as a 3G USB modem for Leopard

    Hi All,
I just get an MacBook Pro the last week, I was happy with the UI of the OS at first sight, but when come to the setting of the network, I am really frustrated.
I get a SE P1i cell phone, I would like to use it as a usb modem for my MAC so that I can have 3G internet connection when on the road. But the problem is that, I can't connect it to my MAC at all!
Leopard can regonize my phone but it seems that none of the modem script(including the SONY ERICSSON script pre-installed) work for my phone. when I checked in the activity log, I see that the result of running every modem scripts are
"CCLExit: -6019 (Modem error, modem not responding.)"
I guess it should not be the problem of my phone as I try using SE K800i, the same result...
although I know that I can use the bluetooth rather the USB cable to connect them together, I would prefer USB cable as it is faster and more secure.
anyway, any help would be appreciated.

(generally I understand one does the same as with a bluetooth phone, but plugs in the usb cable and skips the bluetooth part)

  • Google Voice APP and Google Voice will use cell phone minutes.

My Verizon contract has 1400 minutes shared with 3 cell phones. I noticed that my cell number was using minutes from the calling plan. I normally call the other two cell phones, and my home number (which is on my friends of family calling list). My original intention was to be able to hide behind Google Voice and not allow my cell phone number to be broadcast. Google Voice would use whatever phone number was available on their server, make the call, then connect with my cell phone to complete the connection. I didn't notice that my minutes were being used until after someone else reported that they had exceeded their plan minutes after switching their cell phone to use their Google Voice number for outgoing calls.
I called Verizon concerning this issue, and their only response was to contact the third party.
I have now, and informed my friends, to only use their number and change the Google Voice APP, Making Calls setting to "Do not use Google Voice to make any calls".
Just thought others would like to know.

  • How to manipulate and use cell phone operating systems

I have recently been messinga round with Netbeans 5.0 beta 2 with the MIDP pack. I am really enjoying it, but I am confused on something.
I have an idea for a program that I want to create, but I want to be able to use it in an actual operating system. For instance, cingular, verizon, etc. all have phones that have operating systems on them. I don't know if they are operating systems as much as user interfaces. I want to know how I would be able to program an application for these systems specifically. Is there a way that you can access the code for these or anything like that? I really don't know how to ask this because I do not know much about the cell phone systems. Could somebody please inform me. Thank you.

    I hate that word only.
There is no "ONLY" in the world of software. :P, well, I don't like the word "manipulate" either, so any disencourigement would be on it's place ;)
There are ways to get to the lower level stuff but I
believe that most Java developers would discourage
it. The problem with it is that writing for that
level means that the os is stable. Which is not the
case. What would that have to do with anything? Palm OS, Symbian, an windows mobile (and even linux), are all stable. The other devices, simply don't have an OS, or at least, don't have an open OS where you can do stuff with. That's the real problem.
Sure the os that the system uses may be
excellent. But the next version of the hardware
might not have the same underlying os. Try writing a
program for a palm pro and running it on a new palm.
Backwards compatible is not always there. Since the
e rate of output from hardware developers is not
slowing I'd avoid this. That's why you sould keep to api's. They ensure compatibility. Sure it might low stuff down sometimes, but who cares?
Having said that. There is nothing like writing some
low level code that pushes the edges of the hardware
in directions even the os builders didn't think to
go. Mind you java might not be the tool to do that.Very true, but this is out side of the scope of this forum, and therefor irrelevant.
If you really want to do low level code, buy a nice cpu, make your own PCB and start programming without any api's, or even do it in assembler!

  • How to use cell phone as modem

I have a 3G enabled cell phone (Nokia E71) that I use as modem with my windows laptop
    - connects via USB
How can I do the same with my MacBook Air ?
    - have tried to connect, but nothing seems to be happening / detected

IF there are any drivers for your cellphones, they would be available through your cellphone manufacturer, or through 3rd party programmers who program for your cellphone and have written a Mac interface. Apple does not support it from their end --

  • 3102 question - access from cell phone

    Hello,
I am thinking about buying a SPA3102 after seeing the comments that you can access it from a cell phone or other landline.
My wife's family is overseas, and I want to use the free international calling from my Voip provider when she is calling from her cell phone or from her job.
I want to verify it will work with the following scenario.
I do not have any PTSN phone service.  I only have voip service.
I do have a voip service with unlimited international calling.
Can I configure one of the ports on the 3102 with my current voip provider, and provision the second port on the 3102 to use another voip service (such as gizmo5 etc..).  My wife would call the gizmo number from her cell phone, enter a pin, and be able to dial internationally via the free international voip service?
As an alternative, is there anyway of doing this with just the single voip provider (and not worry about the second number)?
I just switched to my current voip service because ATT canceled CallVantage.  I am not very happy with the service, but I selected it because it was the only one with unlimited calling to South America, and had the ability to dial an access number to call free from a cell phone.
I'd rather get a new voip service that has better quality, even if they don't have the cell phone access, if I can get the celll access from the 3102.
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The SPA3102 doesn't allow voip-to-voip call bridging.  It only allows bridging a voip call with a pstn line (FXO port) call.  You possibly could use the SPA3102 to bridge a call to another voip service if you interface the other service's ata to the FXO port of the SPA3102.  Even if you do that it is not quite optimal and you may have problems.
Some voip providers do not allow you to configure your own adapter and insist that you use a locked adapter that they provide.  Others do not have this restriction.
When calling South America with VoIP you can encounter some severe quality problems depending on the voip provider and the provider they use to route and terminate the call.  Day of the week and time of day can also make a significant difference.  This probably has something to do with the bandwidth available to the provider on the long haul to South America.
One nice advantage of the SPA3102 is that you can setup up to four additional outgoing only providers on the adapter and this allows you to use additional pay-as-you-go (pay per minute) providers and have a choice in calling.
I would try different providers to sample the voice quality to the destination(s) you are calling to find the right combination of cost vs voice quality.
Four pay-as-you-go (pay per minute) providers to check out are CallCentric, Future-Nine, CallWithUs, and OneSuite.   Future-Nine and Callwithus have different quality levels (termination routes) that you can specify when you dial.
The providers also have "access numbers" that you can call without having to use a pin although some have more numbers than others and with Future-Nine you can also access their "calling card" function thru SipBroker's access numbers. Access numbers are nice because you can use them without actually having a physical voip service.
With CallCentric you can also get a CallCentric DID (incoming number) and setup your own private incoming number as an access number.  CallCentric also has some South American DID's that you can setup as your own private access number..

  • Contact Center Express 8.5 and Cell Phone Agents

Is it possible to setup agents on Cell Phones.  For example:  We have two ATT company IPhones.  We have agents that work offsite on the weekends.  We would like to maintain queuing capablities as well as reporting if possible while having the agents use cell phones.  They will not have access to a laptop or PC.
    Thanks for your feedback guys!

    Hi Joshua,
You can setup Call Forward for agent's phone to agent's cell phone but you won't be able to change status and it's not supported because can cause some issue but at the end is up to you.

Facetime is using my husband's cell phone number instead of mine. How can I change the number to mine in face time?

You need to set up the accounts in System Preferences/Accounts, then activate Fast User Switching.
That way you can quickly log in to your own account - then back to his.
You should obviously have different passwords.

  • I have a friend who just got a cell phone but it's not an iPhone but the person who use to have the number she got had or has an iPhone, I can't message my friend, the messages go out as iMessages and go to the other person. Is there a way to fix this

I have a friend that just got a new cell phone, it's not a iPhone, but the person that use to have the number that she got did! I can't message my friend, they go out as iMessages to the other person! How can I fix this without turning all my iMessages off?

She needs to call the carrier on her old iPhone and have it removed from her account.
Once she does that you will not be able to use iMessage because that only works Apple to Apple.
You will need to use something else like Skype instead.

  • Cel phone fax

    Howdee all.
I have an HP7750, all in one, and due to the local economy, I've canceled home phone service, leaving me with no more fax.
I've recently purchased a Windows Phone 7, Trophy, by HTC.
As this printer has wireless capability, and I have a wireless network set up, and the cel phone is connected to the wireless network, I'm curious if it'd be possible to interface the printer with the phone.
I know there are internet based fax services-- most of which charge for their service.
anyone ever do anything with this?
All I need is to do is to figure out how to connect/interface the phone with the printer.
    TYIA.
    Best.

If you can't wait for the femtocell (there's will be called Microcell), you can see cellular amplifiers here ...
    http://www.powerfulsignal.com/KitsBuilding/Cellular-Amplifiers-Desktop-Kits.html
That's the one I use. I have only about 1 bar of service outside my house, and next to nothing inside. With this, I get 5 bars, but only within a couple of feet of the inside antenna. The stronger the outside signal, the stronger the inside will be. Look around, or give them a call. But they're pricey.

  • I use a prepaid cell phone , who elses does?

Im not a big talker on the phone. I do have a landline number, but thats only because I need it for DSL in my area. So I went with a prepaid phone, and I must say I am pleased that I can purchase the talk time I only need when it matters most. Each cell phone comes with hidden fees and other TOS lingo you gotta read before activating your phone but its not as bad as it seems.

Personally, I think T-mobile is the leader in prepay at the moment.
Once you hit gold status which takes buying a $100 prepay card  any future minute purchase will last 1 year.
Here is why I believe they are the best "Emergency" Phones:
So, first year you buy a $100 prepay card and a $50 phone.
Second year, you buy a $10 card and get a whole year before it expires (and your $100 rolls over if it hasnt been used.)
2 Years of full time cell phone service with over 1200 minutes for $160.
    3 years for $170
If you only use the phone for 1 minute calls, it is the best value.
You can easily upgrade to a plan when you hit that point where you use more minutes.
BUT for $40 a month PREPAY you can get 400 minutes if you buy in $100 increments.  Thats a deal.

  • Can you use your phone number in messages instead of your apple I.D.?

I want to link my cell phone messages to the new messages application instead of using an apple id.  Am i able to do this?  If so, how?

First of all, the ability to use a phone number in addition to an Apple ID on a Mac's messages application is supposed to come in the Fall.
Secondly, you can have two Apple IDs authorized on one Mac.  To get the second one authorized, while in iTunes, go to Store ---> Authorize this computer.  That way, after synching with your iPhone, it will be able to use the apps from the two Apple IDs.
