Faxing from my mac

Is it possible to get my internal fax modem sending faxes from my laptop (iBook G4)? I'm connected to the internet wirelessly via a broadband modem through a belkin router. thanks.

In order to fax you need to connect your internal modem to your telephone line. You can't fax across the internet using a dialup modem.

  • I want to fax from my mac using a Brother MFC-7220 Printer/fax

I'm currently using a Brother MFC-7220 Printer/Fax machine with my Mac Mini, attached via USB.
It works great as a printer, but I want to fax from within Mac Applications using the 7220.
I tried going "File/Print, then selecting the PDF pull down menu in the lower left corner of the print management window. I selected "Fax PDF..." but the system comes back with a "No Fax Modems Found.." message.
    Any suggestions/solutions ?
    Thanks

You may need to install the Brother drivers.
By default, Mac OS X only installs the printer drivers, ignoring other features of multi-function devices. By installing the vendor's driver you gain access to the other features.
In this case you should find that installing the driver enables a new printer option - Brother MFC-7220 (Fax) - which can be used to send your fax. So now faxing is as simple as choosing 'Print' and selecting the 'Fax' option from the list of available printers.

  • Cannot send fax from my mac after upgrading to yosemite

I used to be able to send a fax from my Macbook Pro by using Preview and then printing the PDF to the fax capability on my Laserjet colorMFP M475dn.
    After installing OS X Yosemite:
a dialog told me that "Some of the software for the printer is missing."
When I clicked the button to install, it then said "You need to install software to use this printer... If the software isn't available in Software Update, contact the manufacturer of your printer"
Then I downloaded .dmg files for both the laserjet and officejet (I also have a photosmart I use for scanning)
I deleted the printers and tried to re-add them
When I re-add the laserjet, fax does not show up on the Printer list.
How do I get the fax driver to install on OS X Yosemite?
    This question was solved.

My apologies for keeping you informed about reset printing system.
i have attached the screen which tells where the Use option is.
also on the screen where it displays the list of printers wait for few seconds and see if it detects the Fax. It took approx 20sec for me.

Do you have a fax machine or fax modem? If not, then you cannot fax over telephone lines, but you can subscribe to one of many eFax services.

  • Can I fax from my mac?

I know that in the printing dialog there's a fax PDF option but I've tried several times and all I get in "waiting for modem to become available". I'm connected to the internet via airport so my modem isn't busy. Has anyone used a mac successfuly for faxing? how?

Have you updated to 10.4.3? There is hope that these problems have been addressed but I can't personally confirm that because I rely on faxing and use Panther, which works just fine.
Also: the "to" field in Panther was automatically selected, they changed that in Tiger. Why?, one may ask. And the Addressbook attempts to turn every number into a matching name is pretty stupid, really!

Are there any built in tools for faxing?

  • Unable to fax from Mac OS X 10.6 but otherwise C7280 works fine

    Dear HP,
I have a C7280 connected to our LAN via RJ45 and to a phone line using the provided cord. It works fine as a stand alone fax to send and receive faxes. However, when I try to fax from my Mac (OS 10.6.8) with the most current drivers, it doesn't connect to the telephone line and only prints a couple of garbled pages on the printer. When I run a fax test from the front panel it passes all tests. I can't think of anything else to try so I am hoping you have a solution.

  • Faxing to and from the mac?

    hi all,
i am hoping for a recommendation for a tried and true method to fax to and/or from my laptop running mountain lion. i have a couple of pages here with recommendations that i got in the past but for some reason i cannot find it. mac forum results seem rather old and googling results in a lot of methods for faxing from your mac when you have a phone connection which i don't have ATM.
i do have cable/ethernet and i /could/ get a phone line but i am hoping there is a method to do this from my phone and/or laptop.
    TIA

hi. ok. i was sort of hoping for recommendations on easy to implement and/or no fee options. last time i tried to research this it seemed like some would let you receive for free and some would let you send for a monthly fee and i won't use this frequently at all for long periods of time and then i will use it a bunch for a very short period of time. also a google search for this ends up with highly ranked services based upon the google algorithm and a bunch of long review articles.
anyone got a recommendation based on acutal usage that they are happy with?

  • Cannot fax from my iMac to my Officejet Pro 8500A Plus A910g

I have researched HP help and followed the directions on how to add the fax to my available printers, but when I try to fax a document, the printer prints 3 pages with one line ofcode on each but does not fax the document. If I use the fax feature on the 8500A, it works as designed. I can scan from the 8500A to the iMac and print from the iMan to the 8500A. I would like to be able to fax documents from the iMac without printing them and then faxing.

    Hi A-BPlumber,
I would like to help you be able to send a fax from your mac without having to print it. Please ensure you are choosing the Fax driver next to the printer selection in the 'print' dialog box.
Please take a look at the following document to ensure you have all of the appropriate settings correct; Sending Faxes Using the Fax Utility - Mac OS X
    I hope this helps.

  • Faxing with a MAC? (Without a fax machine or paper)

Is there a way of doing this? Thanks!

I had posted a solution earlier, but it had been removed by an admin. I'll see if I can follow the instructions in the email I received and post this properly.
I have a video that I made that directly answers your question. So I thought it was appropriate to list here.
I am supposed to state: "I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link."
Regardless of that, the video gives you a solution, so I still think it is worth posting and I can't see the harm. Just trying to be helpful. I hope I haven't offended anyone.
The video mentions some free and some pay services that will allow you to fax from your Mac, which is what you were asking about.

    Hi @mauriz
    Maybe there is something in the disk permissions causing this issue. Please complete the following steps and let me know the outcome;
    Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
    Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and add the printer back.
If the issue persists, please let me know what happens on the Mac when you try to send the fax. For example, do you get an error message, or does it go to the print queue and then start printing? You said pages of code are printed, is the printer able to send faxes properly when sending directly from the printer and eliminating the computer?
Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.

  • How does one fax a pdf document from a Mac in Yosemite?

I have a telephone land line connected to a cable modem, and an ethernet cable from my Mac to the cable modem.
I would like to fax a simple PDF document. How do I do it?
I began by following this set of instructions, but was never able to get beyond Step 1:
Open the document you want to fax, then choose File > Print.
Choose Fax PDF from the PDF pop-up menu.
Choose your fax machine from the Printer pop-up menu.
Enter the fax number by doing one of the following:If your phone system requires you to dial a prefix for an outside line, type it in the Dialing Prefix field.
Type the fax number in the To field.
If you see a Contacts button to the right of the To field, click it to select a number.
To paste a number into the To field when the Edit > Paste command isn’t available, hold down the Control key as you click in the To field, then choose Paste from the menu that appears.
If you want to include a cover page, select “Use cover page,” then enter a subject and message.
To change your options, use the print options pop-up menu (the pop-up menu within the separator bar). For example, to control how your modem behaves when faxing, choose Fax Modem. You can choose whether to dial with touch tones or pulse tones, whether to listen to the modem as it dials, and whether to wait for a steady dial tone before dialing.
    Click Fax.
Problem I have is when I click either "Printer" or "Page Setup," I get this message:
"The Page Setup dialog box is provided by the operating system. To ensure that you can use the full print capabilities of Acrobat, please set all print options from the Application print dialog box. Do you want to continue?"
In short, I never see anything that reads "Fax PDF."
    Thanks
