Faxing with my MacBook Pro Laptop...

I looked up "Faxing" in the Mac Help and it told me that my computer must:
1) Be connected to an open phone line. No one can be using the phone line to connect to the Internet or make a call.
2) Not be in sleep mode.
My computer doesn't have a slot for a phone cable on it... it's only got the ethernet cable. Is there some other way I can connect to a phone line? Is there a compatible slot on the Airport Extreme? Is there some sort of adapter I need to buy?
thanks

Apple no longer includes an internal data/fax modem with any Mac.
Apple sells an external USB data/fax modem.
